missjackson · 04/09/2008 13:04

thanks rrayray I might give that stuff a go, as you say it would be nice to 'take the edge off'! I've seen it here in dept stores.

LooseyC I can't tell you what it will be like having two so close together from a mum's point of view, but my sister and I were just 15 months apart and we did everything together. My mum has always said that she had a much easier time than her friends as we were just playing together. I'm sure it will be hard work at first but hopefully they'll be grateful when they grow up! We're still best of friends although we have the occasional big fight when she borrows my jeans without asking!

qumps · 04/09/2008 14:09

lol at labia folds and jean borrowing! my sis and i always argued about clothes and she once hid one of my tops in the freezer!

chefswife · 04/09/2008 19:38

ah yes, and yet another glorious day!

chefswife · 04/09/2008 19:45

i've been fuffing about getting a winter coat. it does seem like an expense that i may get by without... only because i have a great winter wrap. although i live in Canada, in Victoria the winter doesn't get very cold. wet, but not cold. its quite an event if we get snow or go below freezing. i am going to get a couple of sweaters and a couple of turtlenecks and thats about it.

what i do want though is a treadmill. thats what i asked for for Christmas.

fourlittlefeet · 04/09/2008 20:13

loosey congrats on your blue and witch on your pink - how exciting. think we should add the colours to the birthdate list!

rrrayray · 04/09/2008 20:27

Four little feet - what a cute idea. i'm fed up of looking longingly at the cute baby girl/boy outfits and wondering!!!!!

Chefswife... by the time winter comes i think i'm just going to hibernate inside with my log fire- Sounds much more appealing than venturing into the cold!

LooseyC · 04/09/2008 20:45

Hi, thanks to those with info about close siblings - and I met someone today who is 11m older than her sister which is going some! Mind you she said they always fought, but I'm encouraged by what I've heard here!

qumps I don't know about books for 2 under 2 but I've ordered that book 'Three Shoes, One Sock and No Hairbrush' from Amazon that others have got - saw a few others in the similar products section but can't remember seeing anything specifically on that. Maybe nobody wants to break the reality to us!

mel2005 · 04/09/2008 22:38

my two are close together 15m apart and they are really good friends. they have a great time playing together and it is easier to look after them as they keep each other amused. they dont fight much, just a small push here and there. i am very lucky. i am just hoping that the twins will be very close as well and the four of them dont all fight as two gangs.
i think the older child needs to help with the younger one to build that bond between them. its very important that they dont feel pushed out by the new baby and the younger the older sibling is, the better because soon they cant remember what it was like without the baby. my little boy gets very upset if we leave his sister behind, he loves her to bits. even though he is a hyper little boy, he has always been gentle with her. even now he is helping potty training and takes her to the toilet with him and he gives her a big hug when she hurts herself. people often comment on how good they are together.

qumps · 05/09/2008 09:13

thats reassuring to hear. ds constantly kissing the 'baby' which actually is my disgustingly protruding belly button! hopefully it means they will have formed a bond?!
have ordered the 3 socks book and also a nice picture one of the new baby from amazon. thanks for the advice.
gosh 2 and then twins. you are going to have your hands full mel2005.

rrrayray · 05/09/2008 11:34

Finally went and got myself one of those massive long maternity pillows yesterday, and as i snuggled up to it last night was convienced i was in for a good nights sleep.

I was wrong- i kept being woken by the arm underneath me being "dead" and then tingly. I kept wriggling. But i cant see how i can sleep on my side (i usually sleep on my tummy, with my head to one side) without this happening?????

I had an awful nights sleep and woke up more tired than i went to bed!

Spink · 05/09/2008 13:32

rrayray - I have a love/hate relationship with my mat pillow. They are a bit of a pain.. but when you get it in the right position it is so lovely! What's working for me at the mo is to have the pillow in a u shape around my head, so some of it is behind my back, and stops me from falling flat on my back when I'm asleep, but I'm reclining on my side backwards enough so I don't squash the arm that would be underneath if I was fully on my side.. if that makes any sense!! try lots of different positions, basically. The 'lying next to, with one arm and one leg over the pillow' position is horrible for me.

anyone else on a bit of an emotional pogo-stick?? the last few days I keep being overwhelmed by waves of excitement and happiness at my growing bean.. and then I weep (no, actually I wail) at the tiniest things. Like, yesterday, when Marge left Homer in the Simpsons movie. I was actually inconsolable.

tinkhasanactivebean · 05/09/2008 13:39

hi

i have a normal bed pillow sleep with it between my legs is great and stops me getting leg cramp and from moving 2 much
it has been raining here none stop
dd had her 2nd day @ nursery dh took the day off while she was @ nursery we went to mothercare so that he could test out quinny buzz he is impressed 2
we also looked @ the baby clothes
found some lovely fitted cot sheets with rabbits, bears and dogs on really sweet.

sorry to hear that u had a bad nights sleep rray hopefully u will find a better way of using pillow.

spink- i feel moody and stressed @ the mo with having viewings to try and sell and with dd starting nursery etc.

moosemama · 05/09/2008 13:52

rrrayray I've investigated various different maternity pillows but in the end have resorted to the tried and trusted method I used in both previous pregnancies.

First of all we put a nice thick duvet under the bottom sheet, then we have a double duvet each. This enables me to create a lovely soft cocoon which I can tuck in all around me wherever I feel like I need it most. It also means we're not constantly fighting over the duvet when I turn over and take it with me .

Seems to work pretty well, I do get woken up regularly but am finding I'm able to snuggle back into a comfortable position quickly.

Spink I am hopeless at the moment, DS2 starts school full time on Monday after doing 3 half days this week and I've been a wreck today. Walked to the school thinking 'this is the last time I will be walking to meet him at lunch time', then we had our usual cuddle and talk about the morning and that set me off as it will be the last time I have him to myself without his brother being there, now we have snuggled onto the sofa to watch Thomas the Tank on the catch up tv as its his favourite thing to do and his brother won't let him watch it and have had to choke back the tears thinking unless he is off sick who knows when we will get another opportunity.

He on the other hand is quite happy and can't wait to have school dinners as his brother has told him the puddings are lovely! Haven't had a word out of him since I put Thomas on!

At lunch time he told me he will blow me a kiss out the window at dinner times and I have to catch it which is but at the same time.

I know its my hormones that are making me worse (although tbh I was the same with DS1) because we have been working our way through the episodes of 'Life on Mars' and I cried most of the way through that last night!

On a lighter note, I have finally bought something for the baby. Ordered a lovely koodi baby snowsuit earlier this week and it arrived this morning - its gorgeous and super soft, but as its 0-6 months it looks huge! Will probably fit her at 6 months when it'll be the summer time!

Spink · 05/09/2008 14:27

Oh, moosemama your ds sounds LOVELY. How wonderful that you've had such gorgeous times together - just remember that they will change into different sorts of gorgeous times, they won't disappear! must be hard enough though, the school starting thing, even when you're not pg and hormonal.

tink - we've just taken our flat off the market, it had been on since May and our estate agent has just closed all 35 of its branches in the area! Nothing has been selling here apparently. I hope it goes better for you, the last thing you need is to be worrying about house sales while you get ready for the new baby..
By the way, were the cot sheets you found mothercare ones? They sound lush and I think I might want some
Patterned ones sound ideal, we have white ones for ds and so far I've not found a way to get the really mucusy snot stains out. bleurgh. So camoflage in the form of rabbits and dogs sounds great!!

mel2005 · 05/09/2008 15:06

i have that trouble with the cot sheets as well. i have some sheets with roses on from mothercare and it does help hide it. it never comes out in the wash. but i found that the mamas and papas fitted sheets are much thicker than the mothercare ones and they wash alot better and they fit better around the mattress.

its raining here as well, i dont have a car at the moment and i have just had to go down the local shop with my two in the big buggy. we had run out of everything. we sold our car last week and just cant find a suitable car anywhere near us. DH was going to try to pick one up today but i think he will not have the time.

LenniEd · 05/09/2008 17:01

Hi all,

Does this thread keep disappearing on anyone else - only seems to last a day or so in 'threads i'm on' - either I am jinxed or we all talk too much

Kittenpaws · 05/09/2008 19:24

Hi, just got back from holiday this week - so many messages to catch up on - haven't had time yet. Still recovering from the jet lag - although holiday was great required a 12 hour flight with 2 and 4 year olds - the joys of having in laws that live 7000 miles away!

Had a scan the day I got back, all OK and its a girl - my DD is delighted she had wanted a sister as she already has a brother and didn't want another one! Have to go back and see the doctor next week about delivery options - had a section with DD and 3rd degree tear with DS - think they are going to say I have to have another section this time.

Big day on Monday as DD starts school - I can't believe my baby is so grown up already. She can't wait and would wear her uniform every day already if I let her.

Spink · 05/09/2008 19:30

LenniEd - can you change your mn settings so your active convos are displayed for more days? Maybe you've got it set to one or two by accident?

Kittenpaws, welcome back and congrats on your scan
how do you feel about those delivery options??

mel - I'll check out mamas and papas

fymandbean · 05/09/2008 21:03

hello everyone

Glad to hear you are all doing well

I also have to wait until the 23rd to get my scan which seems to be standard around here - they seem to leave it 'late' so they have a bigger baby to look at.

When I went for my 12 week scan at 12 weeks and was told baby was a bit small but not small for date - just "we like to wait another week"!!!!

So ditto my 20 week scan - at 23 weeks! Hope the LO plays ball as I do want to know - bad luck tink

LenniEd · 05/09/2008 22:21

Thanks Spink - will have a dig through the loft this w/e for clothes and let you know what I've got. Happy to swap whatever you fancy really, think mine are mainly smaller.

Good luck with the doctor Kittenpaws, and congratulations on the scan. Hope the first day at school goes well.

Moosemama - you brought a tear to my eye reading about DS2. As Spink says there will be many other special times to come.

On cot sheets - I have always bought the towelling type ones rather than flat cotton. You can get them from John Lewis (reasonable price despite JL usually being pricey). Never had any problems with stains and also feel nice and soft. Will find a link for them later. Need to dig them out actually and the rest of the cot bedding and see what kind of shape it is in. Am getting excited now!

OP posts:
LenniEd · 06/09/2008 10:36

Flannelette not towelling - knew there was a proper name for them.

fourlittlefeet · 06/09/2008 11:15

morning all. Had two scans this week; kidneys all fine, and baby all fine, so that is good. Placenta shows no pre-eclamptic abnormalities either, yay!

At the end of the baby scan, as we didn't ask the sex, we wondered whether the sonographer had had a look and she said yes as she was nosey! Half way through I had called the bump a girl and the sonographer cried out 'You called it a girl!!!'.

Now, can I read anything into this at all? I know I don't want to know, but I'm intrigued! DP will NOT enter into discussions as he said its pointless. grr.

tinkhasanactivebean · 06/09/2008 12:20

missjackson · 06/09/2008 12:46

Hi ladies.. So yesterday I went for another scan, this time at the fetal medicine center in Harley St, just to put my mind at ease about the echogenic focus they found in my NHS scan last Monday (I said I wasn't going to worry, but I overestimated my willpower!). Wow, that place was just a world apart from my hospital. The sonographer spent over an hour with me, showing me everything he was checking for, and talking me through it all. The upshot is that the echogenic focus (soft marker for Downs) is still there, but nothing else - so my risk remains the same. Even though the results were the same, I felt so much better just having a second opinion, and knowing that nothing else got missed.

Anyway, I have PROMISED myself (and OH) to stop worrying now - off on holiday in 4 hours and still haven't packed (am actually still in my pyjamas!) so must get busy.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend, and look forward to catching up on all the news in a week.

Ginni · 07/09/2008 15:12

Don't know about you guys but for the past couple of days i've been so tired, just want to sleep all the time. And i'm an emotional wreck, especially watching x-factor for some reason lol! I hope you are all getting on ok
