Congratulations MissHairspray glad all is well and you are having a lovely baby boy. Bet he will have beautiful big eyes that will melt your heart.

Think the sharpness of the picture depends on how new the equipment is, we were lucky and they have just invested in brand new equipment with a screen mounted in front of the bench on the wall so both Mum and Dad can get a good view. (Was all a bit hazy with the other 2 to be honest.)

qumps · 28/08/2008 20:06

great news for those that had scans today. and one of each which is lovely!
we will def find out the sex as we did first time round. i am too much of a planner to not know.
everyone keeps asking me what i would prefer and i give the pc answer of oh i don't mind but secretly have a wish....lets see what tomorrow brings!!
measles are not good. who knew mmr was only 97% effective? still 5 nights of not sleeping through must be his way of preparing us for no 2

chefswife · 28/08/2008 20:43

moosemama 'we don't do girls', very funny. DH was very smiley when the sonagrapher told us we were having a girl too. its really nice to call her by her name already. i'm just loving it.

our pictures were so clear that i didn't need to explain them to friends when i showed them. got a lot too... 15 images.

now for baby shower talks. my friends, knowing me very well, have consulted me on the topic. they know i wouldn't be a fan of the traditional sort of shower and are asking for my input. i said perhaps just have friends over, not just ladies, because we have lots of male friends that would love to be included. there are also people i would like to invite but is it presumptuous of me to expect gifts from people who are industry friends, not people i would go for a coffee with? then i thought about just having a party and instead of a gift for baby, (i am very particular and reckon people will be phoning J (my friend) for advice) everyone bring a newborn outfit for the hospital charity. i think that's a great idea. DH and J think i should let the celebrations be for our new baby. we can donate later. we asked for no gifts at our wedding, it was just a time for DH and i to share communally our happiness and i feel the same about this. any thought here... or suggestions for alternative party ideas, like maybe having it at the bowling alley... just throwing ideas around.

If only DD would sleep through ever... I am beginning to wonder how I am going to cope with 2 up in the night all the time. She takes after her Dad unfortunately who just doesn't need much sleep. Last night we went out to a friends and took her with us and she was still up at midnight, despite several attempts to get her to sleep. She just doesn't like to miss out on anything - gets that part from her Mum .

Congratulations on the scans everyone - exciting to hear about them all. I would like another girl, but would be nice to have one of each. Midwife reckons its a boy (she says she can picture me with one of each ) and I think DH would like a boy... so all in all am not really bothered what we have.... although a girl would be nice!

Oh and forget who asked but my feet went slightly wider with last pg. No change this time, but I would put off any expensive shoe purchases until after the birth. I think it is relatively common for them to widen or lengthen a little when the ligaments relax - nothing dramatic though so don't worry about it - it is permanent but hard to judge how much is permant since in the last few months everything gets a bit bigger with fluid etc, but that soon goes. The only ones of my old shoes that I struggle with now are really narrow pointy heels - they hurt but strappy sandals and round toes fine.

LooseyC · 28/08/2008 21:13

Wow, how exciting to hear from everyone finding out if they are having boys or girls! I just can't wait until next week.

chefswife - I don't really know what you do for a baby shower, I've only heard of them through US telly! Do you get presents before and after then? Being hugely superstitious I wouldn't like anything beforehand but that might just be me...

Ages ago someone recommended a book about going from 1 DC to 2 but I've forgotten what it was - can anyone remind me?

Spink · 28/08/2008 22:04

Yay for all the scans!

chefswife - babyshower sounds like great fun. How lovely to have a chance to celebrate your growing bean with all your friends. Afraid I don't have any ideas beyond do something that makes you feel relaxed and in touch with your baby!
Keep us posted on your plans... that way I can live through you

LooseyC - Is the book you're talking about called something like "3 shoes, 1 sock & no hairbrush"? I've got that and it seems pretty good so far....

Welcome qumps, I also have a ds1 born in May 2007. Eek at the measles though.

moosemama · 28/08/2008 22:10

chefswife saw a shower on tv where everyone came along to a party in honour of the baby and brought along a photo or other scrap book item relating to a memory or their relationship with the parents. These were all stuck into a scrapbook, which was specially made for the occasion along with a message from each person.

Thought that sounded like a lovely idea and a great way of welcoming the baby into the wider circle of family and friends.

Spink · 28/08/2008 22:17

Wooooooooo for all the scans!!!!!

missjackson · 29/08/2008 11:11

My sister keeps threatening to throw a baby shower for me not sure if I want one though. They are a US thing, but are becoming increasingly popular here, and a few of my friends have had them lovely chance for the ladies to get together and nice opportunity for presents, let's face it!

Scan on Monday, too exciting!

tinkhasanacrobatic · 29/08/2008 11:51

had scan all healthy

we have an.....

acrobat

couldnt tell gender being awkward

mppaw · 29/08/2008 12:04

Tinks, will you have another chance to find out the gender or is that it til birth ?

elkiedee · 29/08/2008 12:09

missj, that sounds quite fun to me, if your sister's keen to organise one I'd let her do it.

qumps · 29/08/2008 12:37

just back from scan and not great news. baby has 3 'markers' two on brain and one on heart so have to go to queen charlootes for another scan on wednesday. may show a link to chromosonal defects. can't stop crying and don't want to talk to anyone.
also had to wait outside as they hadn't done the measles blood test, had to have more blood taken and to top it off its another boy and a big one at that! actually quite pleased at the boy bit as think ds will be pleased. not pleased that its big as ds has shoulder dystocia and ripped me apart. also told to cut back on sugar so not only no wine to drown sorrows but no chocolate either. and i wouldn't mind but i only weigh 9 and a half stone.....
right moan over. doc said think positive and don't worry as even worse for baby. picnic with 5 kids this afo will hopefully distract for a while.

tinkhasanacrobatic · 29/08/2008 13:00

yes we r having a 3-d scan 4th of oct
so sorry qumps, we are here if you need to talk

moosemama · 29/08/2008 15:40

tink glad to hear scan went well. You will definitely be able to tell on the 3d scan. Our little one did everything she could to hide her true identity as well, but luckily we had a very persistant sonographer.

qumps, so sorry to hear you are going through this, as tink said, we are all here to support you if you need us. Take care of yourself. x

Spink · 29/08/2008 19:20

qumps - sorry to hear about your scan. Will be crossing fingers for you on Weds. x

missjackson · 29/08/2008 20:09

Qumps, really sorry to hear about your scan. Hopefully they'll be able to tell you more on Wednesday, it must be awful not knowing the full picture.

Hope you are getting lots of support from your family and friends -- and of course we are here for you too.

Hugs x x x
