Nice to know its not just us LenniEd.

I am sooo bored. I'm trapped in the living room with the dogs (who are all very cross at not being allowed to spend the afternoon outside - fence is broken) while DH strips the quarry tiles in the kitchen.

DS1 has been a nightmare all day today, think he just got out of bed the wrong side! So he is outside creating havoc in the garden while his little brother has a ridiculously long nap from which I know I should wake him but can't face the grumpiness when I do!

Have been on the Which site to look at pushchair and carseat reviews and am still none the wiser. Need a lightweight and offroader as do both dog walking and public transport and would like a rear facing option if possible. Thought I had it down to the micralite (Which approved of them) but have read lots of bad reports of wheels falling off and stitching coming undone so now am back to square one.

We had the Graco Autobaby carseat and base for our other two, but according to Graco it has now 'expired' and cannot be considered safe due to its age (its in perfect condition too). So thought perhaps their Junior and base might be a good replacement, but Which don't have any Graco carseats on review - aaargh! Definitely want one with a base, it makes life so much easier as our car is a 3 door coupe and getting car seats in and out is a nightmare!

Anyone else bored - or do you all have a life - unlike me!

HeathersMummy · 30/08/2008 18:06

Hi Moose, I'm a bit bored too , hubby off to the footy so just DD and I in the house, and the weather ain't great here. Never mind, it's my younger brother's wedding next weekend and DD is a flowergirl, so that'll give me something to look forward to.
Forgot to post this earlier in the week, but for those that are after the holy grail of maternity wear - maternity tights! - Debenhams have a fabby sale on. I got Mama Spanx control tights for £3 a pair - they're normally £25 each!! Can't believe the bother I had trying to find any maternity tights though. Had try on of wedding outfit earlier in the week, and have to say I think I look pretty good - or, as good as you can look at 22 weeks preggers .
Enjoy the sun for those of you who have it and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

LenniEd · 30/08/2008 18:26

Moosemama - we have a Britax Isofix car seat (Cosytot or something I think it is called). It is wonderful and the safest Isofix seat in Which trials when I last checked (am sure things may have changed by now). Only trouble is you have to have Isofix points in your car.

I almost went for a Micralite when we got rid of our Pliko Pramette when DD was old enough to sit up. I was also put off by the things you hear about the quality of them. I can't help on the rear facing seat (I wanted one but never found an all-terrain that reclines and is rear facing) but in the end we went with a MB Breeze - is the lightweight version of the MB and very narrow and generally good for shops/public transport compared to the Urban. The only other option we considered was a mothercare 3-wheeler but as it turned out my friend who bought one of them has had no end of trouble with it so am glad we didn't get it. I use a sling mainly for dog walks though anyhow since we tend to go a bit too far off-road for the pushchair - have you considered one? They are easier at first when they are little, but I have got some pretty good muscles from using it so much up to now. Have given up in the last few weeks, but DD is 20mo!

Am surprised to hear your friend had trouble with the urban detour. Everyone I know who has had one raves about them and have read excellent reviews online. My double was great, was gutted when DS1 grew out of it.

We have karrimor backpacks from when the boys were smaller and will be using them to do longer hiking-type dog walks, but no good for the early months. DS1 was still in his at nearly 4 years old! (But then he's always been a skinny little thing.)

I'm a bit cautious about using a sling as we had a bjorn with DS1 and I couldn't carry him as 1. my boobs were too big and suffocated the poor little mite and 2. it aggravated my spd which didn't disappear till I stopped breastfeeding.

If we do get a sling this time it will be one of the fabric tie type as have read some threads about them and done a bit of research online.

What type of dog/s do you have?

LenniEd · 30/08/2008 20:13

We have a male boxer and a female mongrel who is a bit of a Heinz 57 - looks like a fox crossed with a wolf! They are 5 and 4 years old and still mad as hatters but great with DD. They are our first babies really, although we try our best to keep them in line and remind them they are actually dogs!

We have a babyhawk mei tai and a storchie wrap both of which are still in use. In the early days we used the wrap mainly but also used an ergo for a while. Also have the boob problem though!

The problems were mainly with the tyres on the mothercare pushchair - kept getting punctures all the time.

qumps · 30/08/2008 20:16

i was given an urban detour and have to say it was a flipping nightmare. really tricky to collapse and not great to steer. tyre also came off when mum was out shopping and she had to push it on just the rim. may have been because second hand though. replaced with a phil and teds as we knew we wanted to have more kids. love it, its great off road and if you are that way inclined you can run with it too!

qumps · 30/08/2008 20:17

spink think they were mothercare but bought last pregnancy round. will check for you when i see her in the week.

moosemama · 30/08/2008 20:43

LennieEd, I love Boxers, we used to have a Boxer cross GSD and he was the most beautiful, loyal and crazy dog in the world. We have owned quite a few dogs in our time (been together 21 years now! ) but he will always be the one that fills my heart.

We have a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier (10 year old that veers between grumpy old lady and crazy puppy) 9 year old Belgian Shepherd cross Border Collie and a 2 year old Lurcher (Saluki/Greyhound x Deerhound/Terrier). I think mine were our first babies too really, (not the lurcher - he was an emergency rescue job) although we would never have admitted it at the time. It took us a long time to admit to each other that we had changed our minds and wanted children.

Might see if I can get a second hand wrap of ebay and try it out.

LenniEd · 30/08/2008 21:36

I love them too - would like another eventually, probably a white one as they are often abandoned and are really beautiful dogs. Our crossbreed is prob a GSH x Staffie/Rhodesian Ridgeback but she might have a bit of Collie in her somewhere too! We had her at 6mo from the Dogs Trust and she is the most wonderful dog - really affectionate and well-behaved but playful too. Our boxer is a true character - he lives by his own rules much of the time and is stubborn as anything but he is really very entertaining and very handsome. He can clear a 6ft fence from a standing start though and once jumped out of a 10ft high run at the boarding kennels DH worked at so we have to keep an eye on him!

How are your DCs with your dogs? DD loves dogs, and is actually very good with ours much to my surprise - she feeds them their meals too and they seem to respect her. She is dotty over animals generally but dogs are her favourite - they can break even the worst tantrums.

Moosemama I love wheaten terriers, our neighbour has one and she was my dog's best friend.

I had a border terrier who was totally my baby replacement I lost him in May, the same time I found out I was pregnant horrifically he got killed by another dog. I've been missing him so much; we spent five years together and it has been so, so hard.

I've got the opportunity to have a puppy from the same breeder in mid-Nov - everyone thinks I am crazy for even considering it with a baby due 2 months later, but I am very tempted. Not sure if I'm ready though.

rrrayray · 30/08/2008 22:29

Moosemama- Check out the Out and About Nipabout Stroller. Its pretty new on the market so VERY little reviews, but my best friend has one and its AMazing.... does everything the Quinnny etc do, Looks good, Much lighter, cheaper. etc. Its compatible with the Maxi Cosi Car seat too!!!

I'm opting for this!

rrrayray · 30/08/2008 22:30

ps, isnt the next thread about due ladies? its getting rather long this one...

Hhmmmmmmm names........

tinkhasanacrobatic · 31/08/2008 09:06

morning

i am going for the quinny love it going for the strawberry red one have been selling bits on ebay to have money for it

MissHairspray · 31/08/2008 10:44

I was thinking about going for the M&P Pilko Pramette as the online reviews look pretty good and we will probably mostly use it for walking round town or country roads. Any experiences of this anyone? We might also get a 2nd hand all terrain pushchair to keep at my parents who live in the country.

I know what you mean about the search for maternity tights it is ridiculous! I don't want control tights or anything, just ones that will fit over my bump comfortably. The cheapest black opaques I could find were from mothercare for £5 a pair which isn't exactly great but the best I could do.

I am a bit worried about the size of my bump, it is my first pg so was not really expecting to be this big at 22 weeks, even my mum said I was looking quite big for my dates. I've tried not to stuff my face at every opportunity but I am just hungry all the time. I'm still quite slim everywhere else so I suppose it is normal but I am slightly concerned i'm going to end up with one of those giant babies!

Have a good day everyone

moosemama · 31/08/2008 11:32

LennieEd, the boys are great with the dogs and vice versa, only problem is I have to keep reminding them not all dogs are as friendly as ours.

Our Lurcher is a jumper too, we used to have wooden 'baby' gates to confine the dogs to certain areas of the house when we needed to but have had to give up since he came along.

MissJ, so sorry to hear about your dog, that must've been dreadful, its no wonder its been so hard. My Boxer GSD cross boy went in for tests when DS1 was 10 days old and ended up not being woken from the anaesthetic as the vets opinion was that he was suffering too much (cancer that had returned and spread) he was only 6. I still miss him so much, there will never be another like him, but I still have room in my heart for others, although tbh 3 is really too much now we have kids (couldn't have not taken the lurcher though, he'd had 5 homes before he came to me and he was only 14 weeks old. )

Wheatens are a great breed by the way, but the grooming is a bit much now we have such a houseful! Unfortunately she has a rare type of oral cancer, it doesn't bother her and isn't painful and has to be regularly checked, luckily it is slow growing and unlikely to metastasize. The only option to stop it would be to have half of her jaw removed and although some dogs cope with the op I don't think she would be one of them. The vet has advised against having it done now considering her age and the fact that it doesn't affect her day to day life. She does get special treatment because of it though, the others go to kennels when we go on holiday and she comes with us, she also gets to go out and about with us and the boys more than the other dogs do - she loves the campervan - thinks its her second home!

rrrray, had looked at the nipabout but don't really want to spend that much as it will be our last baby and we are a bit strapped at the moment - looks good though.

rrrayray · 31/08/2008 12:26

morning ladies.

Wonder if anyone can help me! Being a first timer, i'm not sure if this is something to do with pregnancy, or just something unexplained....

I feel like i havent had a good nights sleep for a good week or so, i wake up TOTALLY tired, like i havent even slept. my sleep is REALLY broken, with me waking up (seemingly for no reason) all the time. i Do sleep, just not through the night or anything. I'm Sooooooooo tired!!!

Anyone any ideas why this is? I mean i can occassioanlly feel our bean move, being my first pregnancy its hard to distinguish between wind and gurgles and actual movement. Was wondering if perhaps it was bean moving around and it subconciously waking me up or something?

any tips????
