MsSparkle oh ya, i get them. i'm getting them a lot in the last couple of days. i just try and slow down and get up off the bed/chair/couch carefully and use all my muscles and keep my stomach muscles pulled in.

welcome mppaw

congratulations on the baby girl shanster. i'm having one too.

hope everyone had a fabulous weekend.

LenniEd · 25/08/2008 19:03

Hope everyone has had a good bank holiday. Haven't been about as much lately as am really tired. Am finding am getting far less sleep than first time round since DD still not sleeping well and teething too. Plus with my low iron am pretty much shattered. Please please please first-timers get loads of rest while you still can!!

Congratulations Shanster, and good luck to those having scans. Mine is next Monday, still not decided on whether to find out the sex.

Other than tiredness everything fine. Went shopping today with DH and got a few bits of normal clothes to see me through the next couple of months. Bought one of these jumpers and a couple of cotton tunic tops that are a bit stretchy so similar to the maternity styles. Had seen a similar jumper on IO for about 3 times as much, so was proud of my comparative bargain and they were all really flattering on compared to my tired looking recycled maternity wear. Feel so much better for a few new bits to wear. Now I just need some shoes! Oh yeah, and baby stuff... but that can wait til I've finished my Christmas shopping!!

Hello everyone - I've had a great bank hol as the in-laws babysat DS while we went to a lavish wedding. It was great to relax and have fun after a rubbish few weeks. It was the first time babysitting for the in-laws and they loved it - think they will want to do quite a bit given the chance, so that will be fab during the next 5 months!

Congrats Shanster! My scan is on Tues 2nd. Anyone else got theirs that day? We will be finding out the sex if they are able to tell us.

Hi LenniEd, sorry to hear so tired. I really don't think I appreciated the ability to rest the first time round.. remind me what a lie-in was again?

Hi

Back from our camping holiday, which went a lot better than our last attempt. It did rain and there were gales, but this time I slept in the camper van under my luvverly kingsize duvet and all was well. (Felt sorry for the other people on the site though, they were all in tents and quite a few of them ended up trashed with broken poles and ripped seams etc.)

Spent the last two days in a hotel thanks to my lovely Mum insisting that she book it for us as it would give me 'the proper break I needed'. She would have been right, but for the extremely noisy wedding reception that went on till the small hours playing truly awful techno rubbish from around midnight onwards on our last night! Kids both slept through it, but we were climbing the walls and as we had to be up early to drive home and pick up 2 of our dogs from the kennels before they closed we only got a couple of hours sleep!

Spent practically the whole journey home coming up with increasingly silly baby names. I think we are almost there but haven't quite pinned it down yet.

Kids were really well behaved, for the most part, on holiday (which was a blessed relief after the week before at home). However, the eldest has reverted to type since getting home. DH is back to work tomorrow and I have to admit to feeling a little nervous of being at home with them on my own again!

Went to put on the jeans I was wearing regularly before we went away this morning and discovered there is absolutely no way they are going to do up, they are miles off - we were only away for five days! I think it was the chocolate fudge cake in the cafe on the way home that did it. So am now safely cocooned in my maternity jeans.

Have scan booked for Thursday afternoon when I will be almost 22 weeks! We have decided we will ask whether its a boy or girl. DH thought he would like a surprise at first but now thinks it would help him to get his head around things. He's been in denial about this one I think and even admitted to me that he keeps forgetting I'm pregnant!

Sorry, I'm too tired to read back through the list, hope everyone is well and happy. Have been absolutley exhausted all day today, think I will slope off to bed now.

hello everyone.

Glad all seems to be well.

Am eagerly awaiting 20 week scan, feel like everything has got a bit So so recently. Its like the excitement of being pregnant for the first time has worn off and everything just seems a LONG way off. So looking forwards to the next hurdle, 20 w scan.

Anyone else feel like this? i don't feel down or anything, just like the finish like is a Looooooooooooooooooooong way off!

tinkcantwaittofindoutboyorgirl · 26/08/2008 09:23

hi rray not really cant wait till fri for my scan dieing to find out gender

Spink · 26/08/2008 09:25

hello everyone!! it has been AGES since I last posted, I've not had a chance to read all the whole thread but will settle down with a hot choc to go through it all later.
For now I just wanted to say HELLO and do a bit of an update (..ok, moan)!
The last few weeks for me have been a bit frustrating, had thrush, then a baby at ds' nursery was diagnosed with german measles, and a week later ds (and then we) started to get poorly. Apparently at this stage in pg there's not much of a risk to the bean, but, still, we've had eyes peeled for a rash - all the other symptoms are just like a bad cold, it turns out. All good though, no rash so we're relaxing a bit.
Other news - well, we were still hoping to sell our flat and move to a little house before pip arrives, but our estate agent called last week to say they are closing all their branches in Brighton, and we've decided not to put the place on the market with anyone else til next Spring/Summer now. Boo. Our flat isn't really great for babies, especially not two!!
No room in the hallway for a double mountain buggy
Excited to hear about everyone's scans! Ours is tomorrow morning - anyone else going tomorrow??

tinkcantwaittofindoutboyorgirl · 26/08/2008 14:01

rrrayray · 27/08/2008 09:29

good luck spink....... i think a GIRL too... i've had 3 friends give birth in the last two weeks, all girls. So i think you will be too!

Its just convienced me even more mines a boy!

missjackson · 27/08/2008 10:09

Our 20 wk scan is on Monday but we're not going to find out the sex. I will be keeping my eyes peeled for a happy 'accidental' spotting though but I hear that rarely happens.

rrrayray I know what you mean -- had initial excitment, lots of attentions, reading up on everything like mad, and now things seem to have slowed down and I am just a bit fat and boring! I guess it's a kind of halfway (literally in my case at 20 weeks!) point where you're not 'newly pregnant' but not properly huge either.

Having said that, my bump suddenly GREW and I've put on over 1kg in a week but I think this is more to do with the daily croissant and latte I've been treating myself to recently! All I seem to crave are stodgy carbs crumpets, bagels, muffins... if it's packed with flour and sugar, I'm there.

buckles · 27/08/2008 10:15

Hello ladies,

Aware that I only post occasionally (dont get very much time) so apologies but I am looking for some shopping advice.

The time has finally come for me to admit that I can no longer really get into my normal clothes and embrace elastic waists.

I would like to know what essentials are needed for a 'capsule' wardrobe and which items are worth spending a bit more on and which are best bought as cheap as poss. I have also heard that I should not buy shoes as my feet can grow(!) and would like advice from those more experienced- not sure that I can cope with another 20 weeks of no shoe shopping!
Thanks

looweeza · 27/08/2008 10:35

first - sorry for long post...i'm not v experienced (am a first timer too), but I've bought the following: topshop skinny jeans; gap 'boyfriend' jeans (tenner from ebay); 2x cheaper hennes tops; 2x topshop dresses (jersey material); 2x maternity footless tights; isabella oliver wrap top; m and s smart wide-leg trousers.

out of this lot (god, i've been doing a lot of shopping), plus some old cardigans and a blazer, there are loads of mix and match outfits (dresses over tights or skinny jeans, you know the sort of thing).

plus, i'm planning to wear as much as possible after the baby arrives, although i hear no-one likes doing this, i don't think i can afford any more new clothes for a while!

just wearing converse still or ballet pumps, hope my flat boots will still go over my calfs (calves?) but who knows.

everything i have bought has loads of room for growth and is very comfy - made all the difference to how i feel about my body after weeks of pulling tops down and straining against pre-preg trousers.

sorry, i seem very capable of posting on all of the more 'superficial' topics - but shy away from the important stuff.

congrats to everyone having their very exciting 20 week scans. mine went well after v frightening 12-week one. we decided not to find out gender but sonographer called 'it' a 'she' at one point - was she bluffing?!

buckles · 27/08/2008 11:08

thanks Looweeza, sounds like I was thinking along the right lines.
Conratulations to you.

Interesting that you say moving into mat clothes made you feel better about your body because at the moment I just feel fat and horrid (luckily husabd away for 3 months so no one to impress!)
Good to hear that Miss Jackson grew a lot quickly and gained 1kg so rapidly as the same happened to me and I thought I was a freak. last week had merrily gained 2kg in total and was comfortable, by tuesday am had gained 1kg and clothes dont fit! EEK.

looweeza · 27/08/2008 11:16

a few new bits definitely the way to go then - i'm sure it will make all the difference to how you feel.

and no, you're not a freak!!

i'm still getting the same comments from a few sensitive souls at work (yesterday's favourite: 'bloody hell, that's a big old lump you've got there' - charming!)

but my dad told me last week that my skin was 'glowing' and pregnancy seemed to suit me. how sweet.

take lots of notice of the good comments/thoughts/feelings and blank anything that makes you feel sh1t. that's my latest tactic.

Spink · 27/08/2008 11:39

morning
scan went really well, everything looks fine!! phew. pip was doing lots of waving and swallowing (eurgh) and wiggling, and the sonographer reckoned she couldn't see any 'dangly bits' so there is a fair chance we're having a GIRL!!! but, a bit weirdly, I don't really feel convinced by her and still feel like I really don't know what flavour we're having. Anyone else not really trust the scan in this matter??!

looweeza, you sound like you've got some good clothes.. I am .
ds is only 18 months, and I haven't bought new mat clothes since my pg with him, so those are a bit old and worn, and I've inherited some old and not-very-well-fitting mat clothes from a friend so I feel like a bit of a trampy lady at the moment. I like the FEEL of mat clothes, but lots of them are so BORING.
I know this might sound odd, but I am looking forward to the time after pip arrives and I can start to get my body back and BUY CLOTHES - after ds arrived, I didn't bother cos we knew we wanted another baby soon so my body would be changing. But that means I've either been pg or breastfeeding since June 2006! and no proper shopping for clothes since then ARGHHHH

rrayray - if it's any reassurance, the scan definitely kickstarted excitement again! dh and I were squealing all the way home from the hospital!!
