Ob - the stick was to see if I can a 74cm buggy through my doorway. NAH!

Linus was the Charlie Brown character with the security blanket (he's the only one I've ever heard of). He was also the inventor of the Linux operating system. A bit further back, in Greek mythology he was the music tutor to Hercules (I think) and also the 2nd Pope!

Right off to get ds. No more MN for me during the day until 4th September! Boooo.

Tinkerisdead · 21/07/2008 11:35

ahhh nice family stories. Ligament is no better Pinkali, getting really fed up as so restricted. Im so impressed that you've been so restrained at buying baby stuff, i think i have everything i need now. that is really being laid up though, i used misdee/chocoranges list of items and then researched prices etc. I cant exactly go out and i cant manage much so i just online shop for deals and research all the things i want. Tomorrow the decorator comes to paint the playroom and the nursery and then i get to "stage" the rooms. I know its early and im petrified about anything going wrong and looking at all this stuff but on the other hand, its the only thing thats getting me through this shite of not being able to walk etc.

chocolategal · 21/07/2008 11:53

just to be nosey drswife as i might have missed earlier posts, what cot/pram did you go for?
was it the bugaboo?
also i thought it might have been you that was going to get the sleigh cot?
i have been looking at the sleigh cot but dont really like the matching furniture!
hmmmm, decisions decisions, am so impressed you are all organised!

Yorky · 21/07/2008 11:55

DS has just spent an hour on his own at nursery. I got all hormonal and welled up when I came back and he was sitting playing and occasionally catching his breath and I felt so guilty for leaving him to get upset.
Off to the breastfeeding picnic now.
MM, my double doesn't go through the front doo, I just put it outside, brake on and then load the kids in. With my silver cross pram I have to do that too as last time I did it with DS in I hurt under my bump as the step is quite big.
I have 2 SILs, one with new baby(my DBs wife), one no kids (DH's DBs wife), my other brother is gay so no SIL or nephews there.
We love going on holiday with my parents, we all went for a week to Cornwall when DS was 3months old, we're camping in Wales for a long weekemnd next month and next Easter we're going to Skeggy together. Can't imagine spending more than an afternoon with DHs parents though

Tinkerisdead · 21/07/2008 12:01

Chocolategal, yes i got bugaboo, its ordered i havent physically got it yet. I was also gonna get a sleigh cot as im just buying normal bedroom furniture not nursery furniture, was gonna go all out on the cot. however when i went to look at some, they didnt have drop sides.

Im really short and i know i'll struggle without dropsides. Even cot beds i looked at didnt have dropside so ive gone for mothercare newbury cot, 100.00. then i dont feel guilty about buying another big bed in a couple of years.

I havent gone for a nursery bedding range either, the room is about to be painted yellow, with yellow gingham blind, laundry bag etc. once i know the flavour im gonna accessorize with pink/blue and get wooden letters to put baby name in an arch over the cot.

I know i spund obsessed but genuinely have nothing to keep me occupied as i no longer work and now im immobile i have nothing else to do...

I'm getting so left behind on this?! Now only checking every week or so, and there's way too much to read. Glad to see scans have been going well, and Happy Birthday to anyone i've missed.

I've just been camping for the weekend, and sleeping on the floor has not been a problem at all. The main problem is not wanting to get out of bed for a wee in the night!

On the exercise front, I've stopped cycling now - feel like my bump is in the way and my balance may be a bit off so don't want to risk it. Walking lots though, and going to the gym. Also planning to start swimming soon. I'm not planning on giving up any of it and hope to still be walking/gym/swimming in the last few weeks, albeit slowly. Should make labour easier, and can help to stop going overdue.

It's my brithday tomorrow and I'm getting my hair cut (an annual event) and going for dinner with DH so should be nice. Then off on holiday to Chicago on Friday Can't wait!!

SoExcited · 21/07/2008 17:56

Just a tip - anyone who thinks they will want to swim in the later weeks, get a maternity swimsuit asap. At the moment they're still online, but hardly any left in stores as they're in the sales. Got this one from John Lewis today £12 reduced from £25.

ceebee74 · 21/07/2008 19:55

Evening all!

Twinkling - sorry you are having problems with your SIL - not what you need at all is it?

Drswife - I couldn't imagine going on holiday with my in-laws or even my parents. But, since having DS, I think a holiday with my sis, BIL and their 3 children would be great as DS loves to be with them so much he would be in absolute heaven!! Problem is they go camping and I am SO not a camping person DH would probably need some persuading aswell as we are quite private people who like doing our own thing. You may change your mind once your lo comes along.

Merry - lol at you with your stick - sorry it didn't fit. I am the same about the boot of my car - my pushchair cannot be more than 100cm high when folded up otherwise it won't fit in!!

Oblomov - 4 times I don't think I have ever done it 4 times in one day in my life - am in total awe of you!!

Had a lovely day today - took DS to the hairdressers for his second ever haircut - he looks so much older when it is short (but he looks incredibly cute when it is longer and curly so DH has to really push me to take him ). He was really well-behaved, if a little shy.

Then me, DH and DS went to the local reservoir with some bread to feed the ducks - DH decided that we would walk all the way round!! It took an hour and a half and I am tired now!! DS did incredibly well and walked for at least a third of it - the rest of the time DH carried him so he is knackered aswell!!

x

LackaDAISYcal · 21/07/2008 19:58

so much to catch up on, I'll have a read in a mo.

Went to the Durham BFing picnic today; it was lovely to meet some more MNers, including one I have been chatting to on line for over a year. Weather was great and am sunburned, but only on the back as I forgot to ask DH to rub it in my back and shoulders before we left! Ah well, the two toned look is big this year

DD back to normal after a hellish weekend. She had a great time today as well, stealing babies toys and helping herself to other people's picnics

I think Next do a maternity swimsuit all year, but it isn't the most glamourous thing I've ever worn...cheap though at only £12!

at four times oblomov. I can barely move my bulk around to muster the energy once, let alone four times.

but I did have another rather saucy dream on Sunday morning, so maybe I'm not getting enough? But, DH gone for the week again

sorry for all the inlaw angst. I only have one problem inlaw and that's my DB's wife who is mad and an alcoholic. We tend not to have anything to do with them unless we really have to. I never phone them as they still owe me £400 from about four years ago and DB always making excuses for not being able to pay it back, and then they swan off to fecking zante for two weeks . MIL mad and ascerbic, but I try to let that wash over me, and she can be really helpful; in her own way!

Only three days till my hols. The weather is meant to be cracking this week at least till Saturday, so I hope it holds for a bit longer. Pinkyminky is in for a great week on the East Coast according to the local weather!

Thanks guys for our input earlier, I just had to get on the puter this morn to get that rant out, now it seems a little silly perhaps.
We have sorted it out. DH eventually made me see that all I had to say was that it seemed a little pointless for them to come up when we would be going south a week later (maybe I hadn't mentioned that point to you guys earlier? can't remember now) She still wanted to come up anyway but we managed to convince her that it was not worth it and told her that I would be having a party and that PIL were not coming either, so all seemed silly.

MM you may be right, she does love DD and just feels it is important that she is there, whilst I don't really. In saying that, I don't see it as that important that my own brothers or sister are there either.
SIL is DH's Brother wife.

Today turned out completely differently to what I had suggested anyway, so no issue there. Though she did turn up with a face on her that would turn milk!
DH suggested the Castle of Mey and I remembered that they have a petting farm, so we all decided that it would be perfect. It was a lovely morning, they seperated from us after that though, to do their own thing, but that was fine by me, SIL's face was tripping her again by that point anyway.

So, sorry you got my rant, but it helped to get it out of my system and I am happy with how it was resolved.
I have also pointed out dates that would suit me for them to come up after this LO is born, so that she did not descend upon me without my being happy about it.
Crazy! So far in advance, but that is just how she is.
DH sorted me out, good and proper, about it all. It is norm me taking sense into him, so it is great when he does it for me in return.

Dozymare · 22/07/2008 07:52

morning all - another beautiful day! Like MM I am not going ot be on this as much now during the day as school is out!!!! Will pop on when I get a chance though, otherwise will never keep up!

Obs am so impressed - 4 times!!!!!!!!!!!

Families are funny things, my DH's immediate family are SOOOOO Dysfunctional......his dad and stepmum are both what I would call controlled alcoholics and they are just plain weird. His dad struggles in social situations which I do emphathise with, but they didn't even ring me to congratulate me on being PG until 6 weeks after DSH told them....His mum is better, but only just....she is either sober and lovely for 3 months then goes on a bender lasting a week where she calls everyone up and is just plain rude....feels sorry for herself as well and has every ache and pain going....she is not even 60...However, she is a BRILLIANT grandmother as writes a letter every week with a comic and some choc for the kids plus at least 2 calls, so at least they know who she is...unlike DH's dad who NEVER calls or writes......

Gosh, sorry, never taken the opportunity to write that down...hope I am not bitching too much!!!

pICNIC YESTERDAY sounds good - anyone got any lovely plans for today>?????

DM xx

Dozymare · 22/07/2008 07:53

forgot to say - look on the book club thread those of you that are on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bubbaz · 22/07/2008 08:08

Morning all, It was a lovely day here yesterday and it looks like it might be the same today. DH and I are both off work so I am dragging him to ikea to get the last few bits for DS room, once he is sorted I can get on with sorting the nursery.
Glad you have your inlaw problems worked out twinkling it can be so hard. I get on with mine fantastically but MIL tends to speak without thinking and grates me quite alot - You haven't experienced childbirth till you have done it PROPERLY!!! is the best so far. I have more probs with my own family DBs wife tends to keep him away from our side of the family and I really miss my niece being involved with us as we were a very close family growing up and everone is very very close to DS which is lovely.
Dozy it sometimes good to see it like that!
LOL at Merry with her stick - sorry it didn't fit!
Hope everyone has a lovely day

ChocOrange05 · 22/07/2008 09:11

Morning all

Its hard to keep up and I have to get on with work - although rather be on MN (!!) - but just wanted to let you all know that last night I saw my bump move from the outside - not just felt, but saw!! It definitely looked like some form of body part but no idea which. It was wierd / spooky / exciting!

Anyone else had this yet??

LackaDAISYcal · 22/07/2008 09:49

Morning,

I've just been sick! Had melon, a pear and a yoghurt for breakfast, then popped out and on way back thought I was hungry cos felt a little sick so just had a small bowl of crunchy museli stuff and as soon as I had eaten it at my desk I ran off to be sick. Got the bathroom and was sick in the bath (TMI... ) I take it Tarquin will be ok? I have no idea why I was sick... any ideas? Has anyone else had random sickness? My tummy doesn't feel very nice either.. so

Pinkali37 · 22/07/2008 11:04

Ok Tarquin just decided to kick out of my stomach so I know s/he is fine! It's just me that feels crap....

Tinkerisdead · 22/07/2008 11:28

LOL at pinkali, ive been sick a couple of times recently but i think its a case of not much room in there now and eating usual amount causes it to come back up. ive also seen kicks from the ouitside, everytime i yell for dh it stops, ive felt proper kicks for two weeks now and dh hasnt felt a single one as it stops and he loses patience. i think it will literally have to be bursting out of me before he feels it.

Off now to check book club

misdee · 22/07/2008 11:38

morning all.

am stil lfeeling rough. now have a sinus infection, in agony and on anti biotics now as well.

i have my follow up cardiac scan on baby this afternoon. am dreading london underground in this heat, but this time dh is coming with me. will get him to buy me an ice cream afterwards lol.

Oblomov · 22/07/2008 12:37

Sympathy to Pinakli and Misdee. I feel terible. No real reason. Just rotten. Keep having to stop MN, so that I can lay down. NOW you KNOW its BAD

sparkletoes · 22/07/2008 14:12

Hi all

Twinkling, I am so glad that you have sorted everything out with SIL, she does sound a bit overbearing and hard work! Well done for putting up with her!

Pinkali, funny you should mention sickness, I was also very close to being sick yesterday! Completely random like you and it took a while for the feeling to pass. I have also had previous random sickness moments too since my bad sickness/HG spell but as far as I know they are nothing to worry about... Just hormones - and people will tell you the longer it carries on in PG the better it is for baby! Not sure how true that is, sounds more like reassurance really but anyway I had it with DS and he is absolutely fine so not worried about it this time.

Poor misdee, sinus infections are horrible, I've had 2 this year so completely sympathise. Hope your scan brightens your day a bit!

Does anyone know if Next have a furniture sale? Know the clothes one is on just now but have seen a cabinet that would fit perfectly in my bathroom and would love to get it BUT I would be gutted if I did and in a month or 2 it was on sale (as it is quite expensive)!! Anyone have any ideas?????

Hana - re sex - apparently when we orgasm it contracts out uterus a little and the baby likes it because it is like a cuddle!

Romance has gone from out lives as it has become ever more difficult to have a little nooky and we always seem to be laughing. My only obsession is I don't like DH to be touching my bump.

Sparkletoes - it was certainly random but i didn't have MS so even more strange. It was as if the museli irratated my tummy. Horrible.

MerryMarigold · 22/07/2008 14:54

managing to squeak on while dh has a nap.

must get round to putting a bump pic on so you can all feel better! everyone at toddler group (who doesn't know) thinks I am due NOW.

SORRY Obs, misdee, pinkali that you are not feeling great. misdee sinus is the worst when it is hot and summery, but you feel all bunged up and your teeth hurt and your head hurts etc. and you just feel like it is January not July.

Hormones are definitely weird things. For about a month I felt like I had reverted to my first trimester, permanently hungry, craving very specific things, sleeping terribly, emotionally strung out. Last 3 days seem to have gone back to 'normal', appetite normal again and sleeping ok, in fact just feeling tired...all I can think is that it is hormones. Nothing else has changed.

Hope everyone's lovely days have been going well. Tried to have a picnic with ds in the garden, but didn't go well. He was too distracted to eat more than 5 grapes! Gonna have to be strict with eating at the table again.
