This is it!! Some of us have already started the descent into new BABYDOM. Best to arm ourselves with the facts. Here you will find the Signs of Labor. Just don't panic. Remember women around the world have been giving birth for ages. You are not alone nor will you be alone throughout this entire process. We are all here for each other no matter what. So let us go forward with heads high and bellies low.

This little quiz might also be helpful. Remember we are in this TOGETHER!!

Ohh buckets, I can feel your rage from here. What do gp's know about babies?!?!?!

Well the scan went well, took about half an hour as 'Costas' the greek was doing it (I kid you not, the docs name was Costas and he was greek ). Anyway, he must be new because then the head honcho comes in (cons) and checks what his minnion has been doing, and re-checks all his measurements.
Jerry is fine, about 5lb 2oz atm, still breech and cons reckons highly unlikely to turn now given how long he has been sat in the same position. Sooooo, he has booked me in for 6th Aug for cs . Thats only 27 days away . Oh frig, I really am having a baby aren't I!!!

AnnVan · 10/07/2008 16:40

Sibh- agree with you on the soaking. I haven't bought a nappy bin either, I just have two waterproof bags, when it's ful push nappies into the washer, and pop bag in on top, minimal fuss (or mess)
Thanks to others who replied, I will be using disposables initially I think. I'll just have to make sure I make the transition to the Bambinex nappies I've already bought.
Sazzles - was a hospital class, I'm still waiting to hear back about NCT classes.

alittlebitshy · 10/07/2008 17:18

buckets - sorry you had a rubbish app but yay that baby is engaging!
CC it's scary and so real when you get that date isn't it??? argh!
annvan etc - v impressed with real nappy use. We decided with dd we wouldn't, and it crossed my mind this time, but I've decided not to again..... {blush].

feeling crapola as usual. been so horrid to dd. yelled at her and made her cry, nagged her, and sent dh to take and collect her from ballet (as much as anything I don't want all the questions about when baby's coming etc.... I think i may be feeling a bit ante-natally depressed too. argh). Ought to be cooking dinner but can't be arsed for the moment. for 3rd day in a row (for dd -as dh and i were out last night) it's some variation of pasta. bad mummy. Just feel too sick and too ouchy to think about anything more complex.

daer god - what am i doing having another baby? waaah - I think I'm doing a bad job with dd, so why bring another one into it?

Buckets · 10/07/2008 17:31

Albs, mine have just had fishfinger sandwiches again, I couldn't even be bothered with veggies. Teatime is just the end of the line for me at the moment, that's why I'm on here around this time every night, hiding from the sound of their voices!
Don't worry about using disps, it's not illegal and doesn't make you a bad parent! Anyway I've changed enough cloth bums to offset your disps, I now declare you carbon neutral!
My relaxation tip for you is stop cleaning so much, it makes some of us look bad. Got a tip for me?

Well Crap!! I goofed my list up trying to make the scheduled CSs obvious. Back to the drawing board.

Congrats Captain on the thorough scan (i think I wished you a GRAND scan earlier).

ALBS don't worry about how things are going right now with you and DD. This is day two of my driving mine to a fast food restaurant for lunch because I've not gone to the store in ages and don't want to be bothered with attempts to "create" something I'm sure she'd never eat.

I did do one MAJOR thing this morning....I CLEANED DDs room. Now I'm pooped.

OP posts:
cyteen · 10/07/2008 17:43

Today I've vacuumed, washed up, been out for teabags and milk, removed the worst excesses from the litterbox, put the bin out, renewed my library books and made enquiries about getting our car serviced...but have I done the one thing I was absolutely meant to do today? NO Not a single word of my dissertation chapter written. I am made of fail

ChaCha · 10/07/2008 17:46

Hi ladies,

That's great CC, glad you have a date, i also got mine today and it seems as if my dates were out (me being over ambitious probably) as section is booked for 4 August which has me at 39+1 they will not do it any earlier so another 3 weeks of pain i guess.
The Registrar saw me for about the whole of 5 minutes, I told her how my scar felt and how bad the SPD was but she just humoured me and that was that. They are concerned about iron and so tomorrow have to call to go for iron infusions (has anyone had these) apparently given through drip over a couple of hours and to be done thrice pre-surgery. Not looking forward to that or trying to arrange childcare etc..

When the SPD was this bad last year i went to hospital and they kept me in for 3 days, 2 of which i think i just slept/vomited a lot and was given lots of pain relief. Saw physio on leaving and was made to feel a little better, left on crutches and more pain relief. I am in so much pain right now I don't know what to do, i cannot walk without help right now, was a nightmare just now trying to get DS2 out of the kitchen. Mum has gone home and i feel i really can't cope. Any advice on what i shoul ddo? i dont feel going to hospital is an option and registrar today really wasn't at all bothered.

Help!!!?

Buckets · 10/07/2008 17:57

Chacha can you afford (or ask family for donations towards) a trip to an osteopath or McTimony(sp?) chiropractor that specialises in pregnancy? Or private medical insurance might cover it if you have it?
I've got my fingers crossed for the 4th August too, I'll be 38+6. I find out on tuesday.

PetitFilou1 · 10/07/2008 17:58

Go back. Cry if you need to. Registrar wasn't male by any chance?

PetitFilou1 · 10/07/2008 17:59

Ok just checked back and it was a she but maybe one with no children Still think you should go back if you feel that bad and have been dismissed like that

For the record, the on our stats list reflects the fact that those ladies have the luxury of knowing EXACTLY when their little ones shall be born.

Nice chart twlight

Just checking in briefly and saw ChaCha's message about spd. I am so sorry you are in such pain and really empathise with you right now.

If things are so bad that you cannot move unassisted, then you really need to insist on someone taking you seriously. There isn't a lot they can do: basically, they can give you a wheelchair if you think that will help. Or, as you mentioned, they can admit you to hospital. What those of use who are really suffereing need, is home help, but as far as I know, this is not available.

The thing I am finding is helping at the moment is mostly a mental thing: accepting that you just have to do the best you can under the circumstances with your other children. We have not made it to many swimming, drama etc classes in the last two weeks as I just can't manage it. I will not feel guilty about it. There are many days I barely move out of my chair. I am not shy now about asking friends if they can come around with their kids to play and when they are here, they look after the kids. I have even had my dad (not the most child friendly person) take the kids out over the last two weeks. This is something I would never have contemplated before.

It seems forever, so I really sympathise. I have just over a week to go and sometimes can't imagine how I will cope. I remember 3 weeks to go and it seemed so long. But it is a short time in the scheme of things and no permenant damage will be done to your other children is they watch tv all day!

Sending you lots of sympathy/empathy.

Just a quick add on: my stats need correcting please. My due date was 28th July - not sure how it got changed to 24th. Also, both boys have just had birthdays so are now 4 and 7.

Thanks!

Ilana Sorry to hear you are suffering that much too. Sounds awful.

While you are on here, can I ask you about expressing? I've got an electric pump which I managed to get to work last time (once!) (have lent it out twice so it has been used though )

I always wanted to ask someone expert - when should you express ie how soon after a feed and when should you start doing it? I am really keen that this baby takes a bottle unlike dd and would prefer to stick to bf milk. I've never understood how I would produce enough to express and feed normally - and how do you fit it in? Both my children used to feed every 2 1/2 hours to start with and ds for an hour a time. I felt like it was all I did for a while!

Few spots of blood today but not entirely sure which end they came from

Not that I want the poor lo to come this early really but I think I've started just wanting him out. Have had awful pokes in my ladybits today - doesn't feel like a head, more like a hand or foot. Has stopped me in my tracks once or twice. I'm fed up that my name is at the end of the list .....and I'm knackered. But......at least I don't have SPD, or any of the other awful problems some of the rest of you are going through at the moment so I should count my blessings. Anyone I'm talking to no-one as always as it is suppertime so will come back later prior to going to bed - probably unfeasibly early today!

miamla · 10/07/2008 19:25

petit, i'm here. do you think you should speak to someone about the blood? if only to put your mind at rest
everyone has got problems at one level or another but you know what, by coming on here and supporting each other, we can all get through this unscathed.
If LO is in an uncomfortable position try getting down on your hands and knees for a few minutes. i find it helps to shift them slightly and takes the pressure off whatever bit they've been continually poking.

ChaCha · 10/07/2008 19:39

Thank you
Buckets, thank you for that link, is v.close to home. I see DH's osteopath from time to time but was chickening out of going this time when DH suggested a visit. Perhaps i should really make an appt (was bit scared of being told to lie on bump last time and couldn't wait to get up) as physio not much help.

Ilana - Words of wisdom, thanks for that. You are right about not being shy, i just HATE asking anyone for ANYthing but it really is hard when your DC are home with you all the time. Mum has been a Godsend over last few days but had to go home and my home help wasn't able to continue so i should quite rightly ask for help when needed. Always feel bad as friends also +2 children and are v.busy with home schooling/activities/moving house etc.. We don't watch TV or it would most definitely be on all the time - I think we have all memorised the words to a good few Thomas/Night Garden DVDs though - must get some new ones!

PF - Thanks for your reply too. Was indeed female registrar that really didn't take me seriously at all but then i suppose as Ilana mentioned, what are the options? What could they do?

Anyway after crutch throwing and total meltdown (DH's 'you have to be strong and get a grip, you've done this before ) DH has now taken the DC out to get me some nibbles and drinks while i have a bath (here's hoping i can get in and out) my ankles have puffed up - never that in previous PG's either and stop feeling sorry for myself
I guess lack of sleep and just feeling helpless makes you more than vulnerable.
Thank you girls and sorry post was all about ME! xx

Miamla Thanks. I'm not going to mention the blood to anyone at the moment as I suspect it is mostly likely just piles (sorry tmi!) Have mentioned it to dh though as want him not to come home too late tomorrow (me? manipulative?!)
Hands and knees position might have raised a few eyebrows this afternoon as I was at a farm with the dcs when being poked particularly badly! but I agree it does help.
Thanks for listening anyway, I'm just absolutely exhausted this week and have really missed having any adult company around with dh away.

PetitFilou1 · 10/07/2008 20:03

sazzles I'm the same re dcs feeding loads in the evening. I never used to manage to be up at 11pm in the evening so would never manage to express before I went to bed! But am would be fine. I am a bit of a lark rather than an owl generally.

Re waters breaking, if they all came out at once (as mine seem to do) you would know. Feels like a big 'whoosh' sensation and a LOT of water comes out. Even in the pool, you would know. But not if you have the trickle out sort of waters breaking I suspect.

Sausageandmash · 10/07/2008 20:14

Sazzles - I felt a sort of 'pop' but sent my husband to work, sure that I'd suddenly become incontinent! It was only after some 'experimentation' on the loo that I concluded, correctly, that my waters had indeed 'gone'. So, I reckon I'd have been v confused if they'd gone whilst in the swimming pool.

As I read back, I realise that this might not really be of great help. And makes me look a bit of nitwit. But, had to share!

gigglegirl · 10/07/2008 20:23

it seems we're all suffering today - I am wondering how I am going to manage for the next three weeks, each day my SPD gets worse and i am not a wimp but not sure that i can bear this level of pain and inflict this on my DH and DC. I know it isn't my fault buut i just want it to go away!
