Sazzles - no, but my waters don't go until I'm going into the last stage of labour so I doubt I'd notice anyway I am not one of these waters break and 48 hours later still nothing has happened ladies.... See what S&M says though!

Blimey expressing and feeding at the same time - no I'm not that good (I have an electric pump anyway - never got the hang of the hand held ones and defintely can't imagine doing it with that going!)

TwilightSurfer · 10/07/2008 20:52

Sazzles my tummy did feel different or look different. Had I been in a pool when it happened I might not have noticed the wetness but I was one of the few who could feel and hear the break. It wasn't scary, mind you, just felt and sounded like a guitar string being plucked. You would notice the wetness upon exit of the pool because whether it was trickle or a gush, you would not be able to completely get dry downstairs.

Oh and I was one of the ones whose water broke before contractions and all that stuff...17.5 hours before birthing DD to be exact. It broke. I got up and showered. Packed my bag. Gathered a few odds and ends. Woke DH. Who was so paniced I had to explain he needed to get in the shower so we could head to the hospital. In the car I had to tell him it was okay to drive over 10mph as it wasn't going to pop anything that hadn't already been popped. There was a good 2.5 hours between water breaking and me being seen by a medical professional. The whole time contractions were just very light, nothing to even cringe over.

Oh TS you are a star. I always try and avoid hearing birth stories as you know they're going to be terrifying, so I love the fact you are not trying to scare us (don't get me wrong, I imagine it got worse, but I'm loving the start up story).

DH is panicking that I haven't packed my hospital bag (2 of our NCT class have given birth pre-36 weeks), butI keep tellin ghimself (and me) that I'm going to have hours at home before my contractions are close enough to warrant going to hospital and so I can pack my bag then. Now nobody spoil my theory with logic... I know, I know. I'll do it on sunday.

dizzydixies · 10/07/2008 21:04

lovely list TS

have allowed dh to go to work unharmed as he left me to nap this afternoon - just as well!

poppy Mon looking good at the moment but apparently we're due about a months worse of rainfall this weekend alone is afternoon ok? the girls are in nursery till 1pm but can collect them and head down after that will drop you an email!

libbysister I tried to look you up on facebook but there are 2 pages of you can you look me up, its a photo of the girls on my profile if not email me with a little more detail lol

ALBS you're trying to do too much sweetie and please stop being so hard on yourself - I'm tired just reading about everything you do

VG I'll be over for an Avoca lunch just as soon as I can in the meantime get that jam wiped off your bump and was rofl at thought of my dh starting an AIBU thread re his 10hr sleep the other day anyone found giving him support for that will get the same reaction he did for it!!

pregnancy1 · 10/07/2008 21:05

On a lighter (ahem) note - my DH won't let me buy the cheap lightshade I found on sale as he wants one that is nearly closed at the bottom so baby isn't staring up at a bare bulb (baby isn't directly beneath the light and we do have a dimmer). I wouldn't mind if he was goign to find one himself, but I know it will be left to me. What ceiling lightshades do everyone have in their nurserys? I want him to be involved, but does it really matter?

dizzydixies · 10/07/2008 21:07

preg1 we had a big cloud thing from IKEA on a dimmer but thats now through in the girls room so its a bog standard open bottomed lamp shade in what will be the nursery when I get my finger out

I would say its absolutely fine if on a dimmer and you'll probably have a wee lamp or something anyway

pregnancy1 · 10/07/2008 21:15

Oh, thank you dizzy, I didn't think of looking at Ikea. Now, I must win the most stupid Q for this, but why would you have a little light on in the babies room? It has always confused me (esp when they are put in a room with blackout blinds)...

miamla · 10/07/2008 21:20

hey preg1, let me know when you pop to ikea and you can swap the damaged panel from our chest of drawers! seriously, let me know when you're going and if i'm free we can make it into a little outing! i hadn't even considered needing anything other than a normal light shade... I guess i should get moving on finding fabric for pip's curtains too

PetitFilou1 · 10/07/2008 21:23

Preg1 Not a stupid question! When you are nightfeeding you need some light either to feed by or change by especially if you are b/fing and getting used to latching on etc. I could pretty much feed in pitch black after a while with dd but nappy changing in total darkness is not to be recommended (esp with boys!) But.. you do want as little light as possible so that they don't wake up too much.

When they get older (like 3 or 4) children often won't sleep in pitch black anymore which is why you need nightlights at that stage. My two just have their doors open and light on in the bathroom. Does that make sense?

dizzydixies · 10/07/2008 21:23

preg1 stopped me blundering me about in the dark
ours don't have blackout blinds either - [shamed mother emoticon]

pregnancy1 · 10/07/2008 21:28

Fabulous! I'm still not convinced we need anything other than a normal lightshade though....
Oh, my friend gave me some links to discount fabric places if you are interested. You find the material you like and ask them to quote you for it and apparently they normally save you at least 30%! Was no good for us as I'd inadvertantly managed to chose a fabric that was only just out so they quoted me £3 more a metre than the best price I found on the normal websites . Anyway, if you pick a fabric let me know and I'll pass you the links.
I was even thinking about covering a regular cream lightshade in the curtain fabric before realising that a) it was probably a fire risk and b) the animals were too big- I'd have only fitted a lion's nose on!

PetitFilou1 · 10/07/2008 21:29

dizzy yes that makes you a terrible mother seriously though mine would be up at 5am without them

PetitFilou1 · 10/07/2008 21:31

Preg1 a normal lightshade is absolutely fine - anyway if the baby was directly under the bare bulb they'd probably be fascinated by it, rather than bothered!

pregnancy1 · 10/07/2008 21:31

Ah (the lightbulb above my head goes on) - I didn't think of that [smacked head emoticon]. I haven't got blackout blinds either (although it took me about 2 months and 10 posts to make that decision) - surely I can feed by the light tht will make it's way past my wooden ventian blinds and heavy-duty curtains?! No, ah well, looks like I'm night light shopping too! Either that or I'll be creating a post in 2 months time bitching about stubbed toes/hand in poo-ey nappy etc

dizzydixies · 10/07/2008 21:32

LOL - I just didn't start and don't use them as we would have to take them everywhere with us and I can't be arsed. It makes no difference to mine sleep wise - we sods

PetitFilou1 · 10/07/2008 21:33

Right off to bed, slightly later than planned, ds2 rolling around hope he lets me sleep!

pregnancy1 · 10/07/2008 21:33

pf have you thought about writing a book on how to stop first-timers being duped into buying excessive nonsense? You'd be brilliant!

TwilightSurfer · 10/07/2008 21:36

Pregnancy1, I can honestly say how my labor started was how it went the entire time. I had about 20 minutes of real contraction discomfort but the epidural stopped that in a FLASH. Pushing the baby out was no big thing...10 pushes and there she was. I had to argue a bit with the doc to get the "pushing angle" I needed but other than that NO PROBLEM. 5 minutes after I delivered DD my placenta spontaneously delivered. A few stitches were needed from my 3degree tear (which sounds WAY worse than it really was) and that was that.

I've been out reading birth stories the last few nights to get another perspective because mine was way too easy.

Honestly though, I miscarried at home...alone, without issue too. So I'm not too concerned about the whole getting the baby out process. There's a place your mind goes to when it's all happening that allows you to move mountains...it's very primal. And as an extremely anxious individual naturally, I can say I felt stronger mentally than I've ever felt.

pregnancy1 · 10/07/2008 21:37

Oh my word.... just flicked to channel 18 (the hits on freeview) so I'd have some music on in the background whilst I started clearing up and it's Timmy Mallet's summer mayhem!! Do you remember him? I used to love him when I was a child. He's exactly the same but older..... I can't believe I watched that!
