Lets hope it's not too long before everyone is hatched and milking season is in full swing!

Posting via mobile phone sucks, but am avidly reading all your posts and hope that someone can help poppy cos i am having exactly the same problem. And 10 days old seems far too early to be resorting to a dummy!

LOL pregnantpenguin - you must be very desperate for advice ! 2 pages of the same post must be some kind of record.

I cant help but hoping someone else can.

Laura - re: the wedding you are going to, are they full day affairs and if so are you planning on going for the full day? Have a wedding invitation for late summer, which is unexpectedly a full day affair rather than than evening only. I think a full day might be a bit much for a small baby, but at the same time I dont want to miss out on the chance to enjoy the whole wedding reception. Wondering if taking the baby during the day and arranging babysitter for evening is the best compromise?

DQ - Glasgow feeling a bit clammy and 'close' too. Sort of glad the weather has been rotten when I saw it was in high 20s in other places yesterday - that would not have been nice at the moment!

Pregnant Penguin, hope your multiple postings haven't cost you a fortune!

Sarah, good luck with induction, and try not to let them scare you. I haven't heard about the drip afterwards - for 3 hours, really?! - or maybe I have misunderstood you? Just make sure you are happy to go along with it, and ask lots of questions. The doc I saw yesterday thought I was a pain in the chuff I'm sure, but if someone wants to fill me full of hormones and drugs I'm damn sure I want to know exactly why!

aberdeenhiker · 02/07/2008 14:13

We introduced a dummy at 2 weeks... I know they say to hold out longer to avoid nipple confusion but I think these first weeks are when they need the dummy most. Fraser gets it to help him calm down when he needs it and it hasn't caused major difficulties in latching.

Essie3 · 02/07/2008 14:25

LOL Penguin!

I'm considering a dummy here too. Concerned about 'addiction', not being able to sleep without it etc (that's Iestyn - although I'm happy to try one too!) but he's not slept all morning, is bawling right now (upstairs with DH), and sucking his hands. He's not hungry though, and he won't feed.

Upsidedowncake · 02/07/2008 14:28

Hi there

Hope everyone's doing well - just been having a quick skimread.

Am thinking of DQ, Ktpie and Sarah. I have been induced twice now and the second experience was so much better than the first. Re favourable Bishop's scores or not, a 4 means that you would have to have one or two prostin gels to soften you up before they can break your waters. I have everything crossed for you.

Josey, so glad that you and Olivia are home, and you are adjusting back to normal life.

Essie / PP - as a fellow wandsworth / wimbledon girl, I'd be up for a real-life meet-up if you'll have me !!

Forgot to tell you the drama of my delivery, which was that I lost about 3 pints of blood., and my iron levels are quite low. I poohed-pooed it rather and then found myself fainting in the bank yesterday, so am taking advantage of PIL help and sitting around on my backside a bit!

Also, my milk has come in today and Dorothy s finding it really hard to latch on. We are expressing and feeding her with a syringe but it's very tiresome.

Upsidedowncake · 02/07/2008 14:30

Oh and re dummies, DS had one from a week but was a great feeder and din't have problems latching on. I will resist one with Dorothy because of nipple confusion till the feeding is all under control. How is the feeding going, PP?

Sarahpo · 02/07/2008 14:50

Thanks whinegums that is how i feel i mean how drugged up am i going to be? hilarious isn't it when well i have spent my whole pregnancy being extra extra careful re: no booze and only paracetomol when really necessary but when it comes to the end they want to pump ya right up with hormones GAK oh well...my friend just brought me some amazing lunch with extra hot jamaican sauce with chilies so i am hoping something might happen other than indigestion :-)

bitofadramaqueen · 02/07/2008 14:58

Thanks for that explanation re: bishops scores UDC. It makes me feel a bit better. I guess my score could have 'improved' since my sweep too? Fingers crossed its just one dose of gel I need to get me going.

Sarah, yes, I think it's somewhat ironic that we spend 9.5 months (and the rest!) avoiding all sorts of stuff, but in labour they offer heroin!

alipalli · 02/07/2008 15:17

re: snuffly babies, peter was like this when born and mw in hospital dropped one end of his fish tank to help him out a bit.

Re: dummies. We have same problem. Tried a dummy at 13 days old but peter seems to have "nipple certainty". The dummy got spat out: he likes the real thing. The same thing happens with a bottle so currently can't feed ebm.

Ladies worrying about induction: sorry I've not been able to post my birth story yet, but try not to worry about what might happen. I was induced at +15 days. in short I followed a classic cascade of intervention; had every drug under the sun; winding up with an emergency c section. Despite what on paper sounds pretty bad, the care we got was brilliant; peter breast fed immediately, and he is thriving.

debinaustria · 02/07/2008 15:25

Lol PP at all those posts!!

Ds1 had a dummy on day 1 home from hospital, and it was never a problem. Ds2 refused point blank and would never take a bottle either, meanwhile ds3 had a dummy in hospital - big medical looking thing which he liked, then he has had one on and off since (2 weeks old yesterday)Yesterday I managed to express 1 oz -yippee!! And Ethan also took the bottle very happily. He's still happy with me too though so that's a relief!

LauraT - thanks for your help, I did get a dress today as it was reduced and too good a bargain to miss as I'll probably only wear it once. It crosses over at the top so should be able to pop out a boob and drape something around me- still a bit tight round the tum but am hoping that the magic knickers help!Apart from the price I'm not that happy with it but people with jelly bellies from too many creme eggs can't be too picky!!

fungle · 02/07/2008 15:45

fungles baby girl arrived this morning! 15 days late, a positive induction story to come.....

debinaustria · 02/07/2008 17:00

Congratulations Fungle and Capricorn on the safe arrival of your little girls.

Well done DQ on cutting your toenails - that baby can come now that Mummy has tidy toes!

Forgot to tell you before about my post baby brain yesterday - on the way out of the Drs I wished them a good weekend, I was absolutely convinced it was Friday. Wasn't until a few hours later that I realised my mistake.

Reaching for new culinary delights tonight - (where did all those carefully prepared freezer meals go?)we're having sausage, chips, egg and beans!! Oh the joys of having a newborn in the house.

LauraT · 02/07/2008 18:42

Alipalli misread your post initially, and thought the madwife had dropped your baby in a fishtank!

BDQ all the weddings we are going to are whole day things - the first is my cousin's and quite near to home, so have lots of family help, plus aunt from other side of family is going to babysit during the ceremony - planning on leaving quite early after the meal though! the second one is in Dorset and DH is an usher, (we're staying at Sophie's B&B!) they have a babysitting service at the reception organised but again will probably leave early ish. I have parents organised to babysit for the third one at end of september depending on feeding issues will leave them in charge for the evening and the last one is in Ireland and am going to think about logisitics nearer to the time!

sarahpo I'm going in for induction on Saturday if no action before then, think BDQ is too!

UDC and Alipalli thanks for positive induction stories- all else appears to be failing here...

Whinegums I am going to the Mums and tots cinema screening with a friend tomorrow morning (good practice!) so don't assume I'm off having the baby unless I don't reappear tomorrow evening!

PiggyPenguin · 02/07/2008 18:54

Essie, we've spent the past two days with stroppy bawling baby who won't sleep/feed. How's he been for you? He has also been more sick today but I think that may have been because I ate lots of cheese/dairy yesterday and I am wondering if he is intolerant.

Jamie is similar to lots of others in that he wants the nipple to settle and will try to feed when not really hungry as he is tired. Normally this ends in him crying/fighting when he actually gets milk or being sick after taking a feed he didn't want/need. I am also considering a dummy but feel really reluctant.

My natures nest has arrived but haven't had chance to put it together yet - spending all day trying to calm the world's stroppiest baby is exhausting, what I wouldn't do for another set of arms!

whinegums · 02/07/2008 19:03

Congratulations Fungle and Capricorn.

Deb, am slightly jealous of sausage, egg, chips and beans I have to say! I'm just about to put together Mama Whinegums' spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. I think I am going to have a glass of red wine as well.

Laura, enjoy the flicks tomorrow, maybe being around all those babies will set you off.

DQ, impressed by toe nail tending!
