Lets hope it's not too long before everyone is hatched and milking season is in full swing!

Hello all yes thanks re: positive induction stories...this baby has to come out one way or another!! Good luck to all those being induced on Saturday i will be thinking of you.
haven't had any contractions after the reggae reggae sauce still it is making baby bounce around alot haha if only he/she would bounce downwards towards the exit...
:-)

hellbell · 02/07/2008 19:36

Hello. Can I join in? I was due on the 25th June. Due for induction on Saturday. Feeling a bit deflated, and slightly fed up with all the "Where is it then?" and "Have you had it yet?" Have begun to avoid people. Am I normal?

aberdeenhiker · 02/07/2008 19:41

hi hellbell - sounds pretty normal to me! good luck - there's a few others in your shoes so you're in great company.

hellbell · 02/07/2008 19:50

Crumbs, aberdeenhiker, that was quick. I feel a bit down because I also want this baby to come and there's nothing I can do! I wonder why friends don't understand. Do I sound petulent? I suppose I should be happy that so many people are concerned.

bitofadramaqueen · 02/07/2008 20:11

Welcome hellbell - I'm in for induction on Saturday too! Laura, I hadn't realised you were going for induction on Saturday as well! It's all going on this weekend.

Thanks also for sharing your what you're doing re: weddings Laura - I'll need to give it some thought. It's hard to know what I'll feel like nearer the time and have to consider feeding etc.

Hellbell I have to really bite my tongue when people phone/text/email 'any news?' - it is nice that they care, but so bored of having the same conversations with people. Apart from that if we had any news we'd tell them!

Thanks bitofadramaqueen. That's true! We would let them know, wouldn't we? Anyhow- my induction is at 7pm will they give me the drugs and then send me home, even though I live 25 miles away from the hospital?

bitofadramaqueen · 02/07/2008 20:27

My understanding is that they insert the prostaglandins gel, monitor the baby's heartbeat for half and hour and then assuming all ok, you are sent home for labour to progress as normal. If nothing kicks off you go back the next day for another dose of gel. I only live 10 minutes from my hospital though so that suits me - can you have a chat with your mw before Saturday to see what the usual protocol is at your hospital if you dont live very close? How long does it actually take for you to travel to/from the hospital?

Thanks boadq, I have a sweep booked for tomorrow 4.15, so I can ask the questions then. My DH is drving, so we will take about and hour to get to the hospital. We live in the sticks and the traffic in the city will be busy on a Saturday night.

bitofadramaqueen · 02/07/2008 20:34

Fingers crossed for your sweep tomorrow!

I think different hospitals have different protocols - Chelsea and Westminster and Kingston would both keep you in once you've started on the prostin. My advice - as someone who has had both a three-day induction (three lots of gel) and a 6-hour one - is to bring loads of magazines and books, and don't get too despondent if nothing happens or to freaked out if something does.

Interestingly, Christian (born at 42 weeks) and Dorothy (born at 41 weeks) both had many of the classic signs of premies. (undescended testicles / lanugo etc) so don't feel it's your bodies not going into labour. It's just about hospital protocols and so on.

I am thinking of you all loads. LOL. Upside. xx

hellbell · 02/07/2008 20:42

aboadq Thank you very much! I have just found the notes about induction I suppose that I should read them. LOL! Good luck to you and everyone else.

debinaustria · 02/07/2008 21:09

Welcome Hellbell - the waiting is so tiresome, I was 10 days overdue and and booked in for an induction in 2 days time when Ethan arrived, so maybe that will happen with you ?

poppy34 · 02/07/2008 22:26

quick post before bed..good luck to all those being induced.

Dummy advice really helpful -think I'll try and hold out a little longer but will definitely consider it (she likes both nipple and bottle as top up feeding so should hopefully be something she could get used to).

Think I've managed to knacker my left breast with badly fitting bra - on the cabbage leaves as is sore with a hard red patch (midwife suggestion to to this but have GP appt tomorrow). Sure problem is my bra.. as took it off this pm and felt relief plus started leaking from both breasts like some kind of fresian (much to dh's shock and amusement). Given I've now increased 3 inches in cup size think bra may well be contributory...

any tips on how to relieve this apart from keep feeding, cold compress/cabbage leaves? someone said nurofen is good to releive swelling (I dont actually feel ill yet) - is this ok to take breastfeeding?

thegreenfairy · 02/07/2008 22:48

Evening Poppy.

Storm has had a dummy a few times. Seems to help a bit with settling, but she's been v difficult this evening. I think she's just a really hungry baby - she's put on 27oz in the last fortnight ! But she also deffo uses suckling to get to sleep and it's v wearing, and not sustainable - particularly for my sanity...

I also think she's a bit more alert now at a month old and really doesn't like being left on her own. If she's asleep when we put her in her moses basket she's fine, but she won't sleep now if we put her in even slightly awake - which was the original plan.

So, holding out hope that the cot (when mattress arrives end of week) will provide the solution - it's a drop side one we can put level with our mattress. DH and I do take her in the bed, but I worry about her - our mattress is quite soft and she gets hot v easily (like me).

Ok., off to bed while DH is on duty. So so tired...

Rolf · 02/07/2008 22:49

That sounds painful Poppy. I think nurofen is ok when bfeeding but I'm not certain. I got mastitis with DD1 and it flared up very suddenly, and was terribly painful. I tried natural remedies for about 12 hours and then gave in and had antibiotics which cleared it up.

Based on my experience with DD1, I'd suggest that you keep going with the savoy cabbage, medicate for the pain/temperature/swelling, try a warm shower and very gently massage the breast moving over the sore area and towards the nipple to try and unblock it. Keep feeding Edie - maybe try different positions in case one helps to clear the blockage (although I know I'd find that difficult), rest as much as possible and have a low threshold for getting professional advice/antibiotics. xx

( that looks really bossy doesn't it? Sorry)

Essie3 · 02/07/2008 22:51

Sybil - I'm with you! Shared baby! No time to post today because Iestyn has screamed solidly for most of the day. He's finally settled now (although I dare not type - he might start again). Nothing worked. Quite distressing for all... He does feed, but seems to be really windy or something.

Damn - we haven't changed him for a while. Oh God, can't possibly wake him now - we need sleep!

UDC - another south Londoner! So far there's 4 - me, Penguin, you and possibly Amber! Should be fun - and I'm really grateful to you all because I'm worried that I'll be alone all day with a screaming child...

Going to the situation room now to discuss nappy versus sleep with DH.

p.s. dummy - he wouldn't take it. Infacol - he did take some. We were desperate...

bitofadramaqueen · 03/07/2008 00:01

Poppy I wouldn't take my word as gospel, but I asked my mw (the sensible one) if I would be able to take nurofen in conjunction with paracetemol post birth for afterpains etc and she said that would be absolutely fine. She knows I'm hoping to bf.

debinaustria · 03/07/2008 07:06

poppy - try to get Edie to feed wit her chin where your sore bit is, as the movement of the chin helps clear the milk - it can mean getting into a v strange position though, i had to feed on my bed with ethan upside down next to me!

debinaustria · 03/07/2008 07:08

crap night here - unsettled baby and his lovely skin has baby acne

sophiewd · 03/07/2008 07:41

Gosh - Basil sounds positively angelic compared to some of your babies, I feel very guilty, he doesn't cry excepot if we have abandoned him and he wants food and that's it really.

I am very tired this morning, but managed to persuade DH that he needs to get a up a bit earlier in the morning as yesterday I struccled with feeding Basil, getting breakfast sorted and nearly having to also get DD up as well.

sophiewd · 03/07/2008 08:35

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Thank you

debinaustria · 03/07/2008 09:03

Hope you feel better after that Sophie, is that breakfast sorted now? I don't know how you do it, I feel like I've achieved loads as I've got up, stripped our bed, had a shower, bathed Ethan and eaten my breakfast - never mind sorting out guests breakfasts.

Quick question - anyone else co-sleeping. We weren't intending to , in fact dh was dead against it but we've slipped into the easiness of it. But now I'm wondering if we'll regret it, how long do I leave it before trying to get E into his own cot?We have a moses basket next to our bed but apart from a couple of daytime naps E just isn't keen.

sophiewd · 03/07/2008 09:18

That one was for screaming children.

We have slipped into co-sleeping as well, he never really settled in a moses basket or a cot so we are awaiting the arrival of the natures nest today. I want to get him out of our bed ASAP so it won't become an issue.

Sarahpo · 03/07/2008 09:35

Re: induction, at our hospital i go in on Tuesday and i don't come out until i have a baby! I woke up in the night panicking about all of the awful things that could happen but i think an extra nap today should help calm me down. My pelvis is getting worse by the day and i can't even sit on our dining room chairs i was in tears last night with pain and DH said 'shouldn't you go to hospital now?' no thanks..i still think that being at home is better much more relaxed....

whinegums · 03/07/2008 10:10

Morning, welcome to the overdue crew Hell Bell. It sucks doesn't it?

Sarah, how are you this morning, I was lying awake for hours last night with the induction scenario running through my head. I think the longest I can avoid it is until next Wednesday. Sorry to hear about your pains, at least they will be over soon. Would you like a big stick to poke your DH with by the way?

Laura, I know you said you wouldn't be around today, but when I saw the headline for this on the BBC Scotland website, I wondered if it was you!
news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/north_east/7471223.stm

However, it's in AberdeenH and Josey's neck of the woods.

Don't know what to do with myself today. Was thinking about long walk outside (or as long as I can manage) but apparently it's going to bucket down.

Poppy, hope you feel better soon.
