Hmm don't know cyteen all my mums labours were fast and mine have been fast. However, my friend's mum said to her 'you'll shell them like peas in a pod like I did' and she had an emergency c section

Your birthweight is a good guide to the size your lo will be though apparently.

Sazzles I have definitely been round the coffee machine just that bit too much today

Aww, hugs to your pukey little one Sazz

My dad seemed to think I was 8lb something, so pretty average really...bless him, he so can't remember any actual detail about our formative years. The only thing he remembered with any certainty was that, having psyched himself up to watch me being born (not really the done thing in those days), he was really annoyed that I cheated him of the opportunity by arriving while he was on the phone to his mum!

Have written 400 words of absolute guff so feel I am entitled to a quick browse and post

VintageGardenia · 17/06/2008 16:50

Sazz for your poppet, have you got her home now?

LOL at all the workers at home doing sod all. Yikes. Not funny really!!! heh heh.

pf hmm yes I know the sizing may be off. From what I remember though boobs were only planet sized for week or two or so and reverted to normal then, even though bf. Also I just want to have the stuff here in advance so I'm not faffing about trying to get things when I have other things on my mind! Maybe not most sensible plan but...

Re. Liz Earle there's no shop in Ireland so I just get it from her site. I think she's fab and I love her products. The site has a special at the moment, if you buy Cleanse & Polish essentials you get a free Eyebright. I swear by Cleanse & Polish, and the skin repair moisturiser, PLUS all the stuff smells fab as well as being made of lovely botanical stuff, no animal testing, no chemicals.

I ordered the cherry bomb bra etc at figleaves.com AND can exclusively reveal that if you use the code EVE15PC on figleaves.com you get 15% off and free UK delivery.

I also got a copy of Glamour magazine which has been sold out across the city since it cleverly gave away a Benefit lip gloss this month! I have ditched the mag, what rubbish, but am gleaming and glossy of pout.

VintageGardenia · 17/06/2008 16:51

400 words????

A week's work! Let me make you a cup of tea too.

Buckets · 17/06/2008 16:52

PF So right about DH's wanting to fix things. They don't get that your moaning about something is just expressing and sharing and makes you feel better, they think you're expecting them to do something about it. Have you read Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus? Recommend it for anyone, DH refuses to read it though - his loss, lots of tips on manipulating each other (nicely) LOL, he has no idea.

ALBS - well done for having sorted out a new car so soon!

VG - what's your article about?

My bellybutton is kind of flat with a kind of 'nubbin' at the top, DH says that makes it an outie but I say not since it doesn't show through my clothes. Will have to put a photo up and you can all vote!
My wonderful wonderful parents have been over this avo to give us Mum's old Micra for DH. Which means freedom for me after 3yrs of one-car martyrdom (and saintly eco-smugness). My dad also totally did my front garden (with DS's help) and it's just sparkling. I am soooooooooooooooooo lucky and spoilt!

miamla · 17/06/2008 17:07

buckets..my tummy button's like yours! i definitely vote that yours isn't an outie yet!

who's idea was it to paint tshirts for DB's and DP's birthday? twas indeed a genius plan and i've just finished them polishes halo
and i'm hopefully picking up a ukulee for DP tomorrow so well done whosever idea that was too!

all this talk of tea is making me thirsty so i'm off to make tea and try and upload photos of my creations!

miamla · 17/06/2008 17:22

photos now on profile

Sazzles so sorry about DD. Don't you wish you could run around like nothing was bothering you whenever you feel ill.

Just sitting here feeling like a toad on a log where sexy's the topic. All the HotMilk and lacy lingerie chatter...you might as well be talking GERMAN. Nothing but HANES cotton stuff in my dresser drawers. I even have a very nice Victoria Secrets store just 10miles from my front door. Sometimes I wander through and think is that really wearable??? DH tells me it is for about 5 minutes. When I grow up I'll invest in some quality lacy undies.

OP posts:
cyteen · 17/06/2008 17:39

Great tshirts miamla! Really impressive I am jealous of your crafty skillz.

Buckets · 17/06/2008 18:06

LOL TS, just after DS was born I gave DH the Anne Summers catalogue for his birthday and he picked out a (disappointingly) tasteful basque set for me. I have worn it about twice in 3yrs! Think it was all about me reclaiming my body after stressful surprise pregnancy TBH. Must have a look and see what I could buy after this baby LOL.

My first baby was only 2oz different in weight to me but my 2nd was nearly 2lb heavier!

miamla · 17/06/2008 18:07

hey TS, when i grow up i'm going to buy some nice undies too! and i'm always going to wear a bra that matches my knickers...but only when i'm grown up!

sazzles, your poor DD, hope she recovers quickly without too many more explosions!

thanks cyteen, the red/grey one for my brother is a copy of a tattoo he's got on his arm..i just hope he likes it! i'll find out in a couple of hours!

ooh forgot to say...had an appt with consultant and a scan today. We're on schedule for having a 7lb 7oz baby. i think he's about 5lb at the moment so it looks like his growth hasn't been stunted at all
despite all issues we've had there are no plans to induce us early. iron levels are still pants but hey, you can't have everything right all at the same time!
DP and I think its quite funny that she's booked us another appt for 4 weeks time. i'll be 38 weeks and very surprised if Pip hasn't made an arrival by then. don't know why, we just think he'll be early

was quite sweet though because i had a med student examine me (before consultant arrived). We'd just had a scan so i was testing to see if she could work out Pip's orientation..she got it 100% right!

anyone else really suffering with piles atm? its so painful to do anything, walking, sitting, lying down. I asked the consultant and she helpfully said nothing more i could do til baby was here. i'm doing all the water drinking, lactulose taking and all bran eating possible but the iron tablets aren't really helping things. oh well!

cyteen · 17/06/2008 18:11

Sympathies re. piles - thankfully mine seem to have subsided, but they were extremely painful a couple of weeks ago. Now I have a water infection instead, oh joy.

miamla · 17/06/2008 18:33

i've had them since just after BFP but only painful every now and again. i'm so grumpy because of the pain, feel sorry for DP
consultant suggested trying an ice pack on bum, i did try but way way too painful! the other thing she suggested was a saline bath (1 tbsp of salt in every litre of cold water) that doesn't sound like much fun either but i'm willing to give it a go

a water infection? you lucky thing!

dancerandprancer · 17/06/2008 18:57

Evening all.
The last few times at midwife, bump has measured large for dates. (outside grey shaded area of chart thingy )Have had tests for diabetes but they seem to be fine. The midwife has said that if bump continues to be large she will get me an appointment with consultant to discuss options.

What I would like to know, is what are the options and what is he likely to say/suggest and how big is a big baby. My midwife not very forthcoming with this info so I thought I would see if any of you had any experience/words of wisdom.

VintageGardenia · 17/06/2008 19:03

Cool t-shirts miamla they are going to go down a treat, all the more because you made them. How lovely of you.

Coo Buckets what fab parents you have. Zackly what you need. Piece is on authenticity, but is only about 20 words long will be a late night alas.

Oh piles! I have not got them but have been reading about them as possibilities, horrors. I am so sorry you are suffering miamla can you get one of those ring things to sit on, you might use it again after the birth? I don't know if it would help. This type of thing, fellow in picture looks as if he is enjoying sitting down. Well he looks as if he is acting enjoying it anyway! You could presumably disguise it a little at work, or with your supercraftiness embroider something on the cover so it looks like a "normal" cushion.

Disclaimer: the author does not intend to imply that there is anything abnormal or shameful about piles, simply that one may not wish to broadcast their presence.

TwilightSurfer · 17/06/2008 19:16

Dancer, is your baby head down, breech or transverse?? We've noted that size is appears to be off when baby ISN'T head down.

Miamla, piles....only use baby wipes following a #2. Each day, at least once pat area with Witch Hazel (wipes are best...just hold them on the piles for a few minutes). After each cleaning of the backside, dab on some Vaseline (petroleum jelly). After about three days of this you WILL notice a difference, PROMISE.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 17/06/2008 21:12

right, did someone mention cake, piles and big babies?!?!?!?!

will go and get my pizza and be right back with my words of wisdom on all three topics

TwilightSurfer · 17/06/2008 21:23

I just wanted to share this little link to a reality tv show that we (me and DD) LOVE. The relevance is Kate had sextuplets at 30 weeks and all six did very well. We've all hit and most of us have passed that point now!! Here's the family's page.

OP posts:
Buckets · 17/06/2008 21:53

Remember not to flush your wipes down the loo or you could end up with a right mess. Worth investing in a nappy bucket or Sangenic (wrapper bin thing for disposables) early if you have piles, just so you have somewhere to store your wipes.

Local NCT branches rent valley cushions for those with sitting issues (piles, stitches etc.) Cheaper is Smartprice frozen peas sorted into freezer bags to a convenient size (remember to remove from your pants when leaving the house/answering the door).

Has everyone tried Preparation H / Anusol etc or is it pointless against the extra weight / pressure / bloodflow while you're actually pg? I've only had non-painful ones myself (sorry) so not bothered to treat until after birth.

dizzydixies · 17/06/2008 21:54

sextuplets?!?!?!?!?

right quick update then will put the world to rights

went to mothercare today to ask re car seats, they were, as usual farking hopeless BUT they do have a lot of clothes on sale - useful for anyone needing anything. I got a couple of white sleepsuits/mittens/socks as when I unpacked the bag of baby stuff earlier in the day I realised we technically have sod all

dd1 off to play at friends house, dd2 fell asleep in the car so I decided to have a nap too - fiestas are NOT comfy for naps - you have been warned lol

visit to school with kids and dh went fine, took dh over to pub and then bridge was closed for coming home anyway, sat there with two kids well past bedtime and the woman in front starts waving like a loon - locked doors and told dd1 to wave back and asked if she knew her - turns out was a friend of mine I haven't seen in 2 years so am now delighted bridge was closed for 1/2 hour as we got to catch up and have arranged to meet next week

kids up to bed, dd2 STILL farking going - banging about in her cot and being a pest - burnt my badly wanted pizza and am now sitting on lardy arse for wee while before bed

CaptainCaveman has sent me a text sending all her love but she is off to bed as she is shattered - she has been given a row for being too hard on herself esp after the week that she has had and told to go and have a good sleep

cyteen over cake but glad you had nice time with group again

dancerandprancer mw cannot tell by measurement alone if this is a big baby or not - you may just be carrying a lot of fluid. if you are referred back to the hosp you'll be scanned where they will give you an estimated size - my sonographer feels that this is inaccurate but the consultants like it done

do you feel that the baby is big? am personally not a great believer in what size you were relating to baby - I was 7lbs and have had much bigger babies

don't panic, you have plenty of time and considering the midwife was over 2lbs out when trying to predict size of dd1 I wouldn't put too much high regard on what she's saying

miamla piles bloody horrible things top tips

  1. lactalose and huge amounts of water - you don't need to be passing something 'difficult' when they're irritated
  2. when on toilet ONLY go when you feel you need to, not just to try and see what happens and do not remain on loo for longer than necessary - just causes temptation to strain
  3. when on loo sit with your feet up, e.g on the kids step or upturned stool etc
  4. cup of luke warm water with some lemon in it first thing in the morning
  5. get your suppositories on prescription and throw them up like sweeties - keep using them

buckets lovely lovely lovely parents

albs what a PITA about the car, glad you have a 'carman' though lol

sazz wee pet, hope she is feeling better soon and have you considered Alexa?

dizzydixies · 17/06/2008 21:55

buckets the suppositories are DEF worth it as they can actively shrink them - not too sure about the cream and you're not meant to use the spray stuff when preg/breast feeding but I'll happily admit to using it as I thought I would rather die than go through the pain of the toilet and the 2 hours crying afterwards everytime

dizzydixies · 17/06/2008 21:57

miamla sorry was so bust talking about your bot I forgot to say how impressed I am with your tshirts - well done you

gigglegirl · 17/06/2008 21:57

evening all! What a lot to catch up on even after just one day!

I am just about to stare writing my list for hospital bag and stuff for the baby. Not sure how far I will get tonight though. I also need to write my list of questions for the hospital on Thursday!

Am loving the Hot Milk bras - was just talking to a customer today who runs a lingerie shop and came home with several brochures so am adding them to my list too.

Advice re; Piles looks great - mine are unbearable - need to get some witch hazel tomorrow.

As for measurements and big babies we were told that DD1 was going to be over 9lb but was actually 71b 7oz, don't know anyone who has had accurate estimates of weight only accurate head circumference to estimate babies size.

Apparently if you measure child on 2nd birthday and double height that will be how tall they are when an adult - haven't done it with first two as didn't know but DS2 is 2 on 13th July so will have to see what that comes out at!
