oh and meant to say that average birthweight 30 years ago was 7lb 7oz and is now apprently 8lb 7oz so can't be that much correlation between our weight and our offspring or it wouldn't be going up. My tiny size 6 friend had a baby who was 10lb 12oz (naturally at home!) and another tiny friend has had three massive babies as well!

Buckets · 17/06/2008 22:13

Another tip for tricky poos is to do some pelvic floor exercises whilst sitting on the loo, think mushing rather than pushing (while we're all doing TMI).

LOL My mum decided it was in her interest to give us her old car as she would be driving over to rescue me all the time come September. This way me and the DSs (feels funny thinking plural boys) can just turn up at theirs and veg out and my folks don't even have to be in the country.

I am not getting stressed but midly anxious, dh? well, he's in the pub

gigglegirl · 17/06/2008 22:36

not getting far with my list!! too busy looking at nice bags on the internet!

gigglegirl · 17/06/2008 22:41

good luck for tmw dizzy - what time you going?? Can DH go too. I've got scan at 9.10 on thurs but DH can't make it as has to take kids to school plus we run our own business so someone has to be there!

dizzydixies · 17/06/2008 22:43

oh giggle, we're quite lucky as its fallen on a day when he is late shift so he's coming

am just wondering whether or not he'll be breathing beer all over consultant or not and if the 4 farking pages of the birthing book have given him any insight

he's been well warned

4 pages - impressive - my dh is on 4th child and has never read one!!!!!

dizzydixies · 17/06/2008 22:55

lol sazz that would imply that I've actually made a choice

giggle am not convinced he didn't just flock through it and memorise one story to make out he's read something!

have decided to actively NOT make a choice, I have been going round in circles over it all and have now reached conclusion that there is no point seeing as I am going in for a scan tomorrow

I've phoned ahead to make sure that my notes from previous two labours will be there so when am actually discussing it all with consulatant we're not guessing at what happened etc

will let you know how I get on tomorrow

appt is at 10:50 and then straight to swim class etc so I won't be on till later with updates

night all, am off to bed to get to sleep before dh fallsin comes home and snores and has an attempt at getting lucky - not a hope lol

dizzydixies · 17/06/2008 22:56

glad mine's not the only one who fancies his chances after a few - not living in the same reality as me!!

Berlimey ladies. Has taken me until this time just to catch up on today's chat!

Good luck tomorrow Dizzy. Will now be heading south on Sunday for the funeral on Monday, so won't be able to make Cairnie. V annoyed to miss the opportunity to put faces to names! Will e-mail you to see about another date?

Tummy button pinged out long ago. Never quite recovered from having DD. Rather like the rest of my body. Hate to think what I'll be left with after this one...

No hint of a hospital bag packed here. Haven't bought anything for the baby yet either (although did start to go through the boxes that we hadn't unpacked since we moved in here that were clogging up the baby's room). Didn't do any of it until I stopped work at 37 weeks last time and as I finish earlier this time assume it'll be the same again. Far less to buy too.

Do not know what this baby was doing to my insides today, but it wasn't kind (so wish I was blessed with your ability to tell where the LO is lying, TS). Had some pretty intense meetings at work today, which combined with dealing with e-mails from people who've heard the news about my friend and organising travel for the funeral left me rather manic. Sat down and found breathing really hard and had to keep going outside for a quick wander in the fresh air. Think the baby must have been right up under my ribs. Not good. Got home after a day of rushing around with a v. achey bump. Fine now, but could really do with a quieter few days, although can't see it happening...

Sibh · 18/06/2008 00:22

Take care Poppy--you have been through a lot in the last few days and that's bound to take its toll.
I'll have to measure DD tomorrow gigglegirl as she's going to be two (though she swears blind it's three)--I've spent the evening trying to decorate a cake to look like her 'jellybean' monkey toy, George. It's ended up looking like a teddy that's spent a few hours on a rack which isn't quite the same thing ... Maybe the candles will make it look better.
It's hard to believe I was in labour this time two years ago...

Expectant · 18/06/2008 02:03

Poppy - hope you manage to get some rest over the next few days.

TS - we also get Jon & Kate plus 8 over here. I don't know how they do it I'm getting increasingly nervous about being able to cope with 1!

Waiting now till you all wake up again. So I have to do my catching up on last nights posts first thing in the morning (it's just gone 9am here). Busy day at work today but feeling very unmotivated as countdown gets closer.

Also crappy employers say that I have to tell one of my staff that she has to take leave for yesterday afternoon as her DH was rushed to hospital with a temperature of 40.5. As I'm leaving I'm just going to suggest she doesn't enter it in the HR system. What can they do fire me?!

Morning gals - slightly more grounded on planet earth this morning, but only slightly!!

When I summon up enough energy I will go and wash my hair. I do believe mum and I will pop out for lunch and then that should be me bushed for another day! .

So, if you want to hear what happened, read on: (warning, may be loooong):

Woke up at around 2am last Friday morning with a pain under the right side of my bump, kind of like a stitch type pain. Nothing too serious and I dozed off to sleep again. Woke around 3am to pee and got the shock of my life to find pants covered in blood. Lots more blood on wiping, immediately I start to sweat in a cold panic and repeated "shit shit shit shit" several times to myself. (obv, this helped!).
Went downstairs to get my mat notes and phoned the labour suite. They said I would have to come in and could anyone bring me? Errrm, no, dh had supped a bottle of red wine so couldn't drive, plus ds was fast asleep in bed. So they told me to dial 999. EEEEEKKK, thats for like proper emergencies isn't it?!!

Rang 999 and the woman said to unlock the door and sit down to wait for ambulance crew to arrive. So of course I ran upstairs to get my dressing gown and pjs and to wake dh up and tell him. Poor love, he wakes up and comes downstairs saying "whats happening, what shall I do?", whilst I sit on the settee with toilet papers shoved in my pants as I didn't have sanitary towels!. Amb crew arrived and gave me oxygen, loaded me into the van and whisked me away.

Got to labour suite and a lovely midwife asked if I was ok, where upon I burst into tears and said No, I'm actually very scared. She put the monitor on and picked up Jerry's heartbeat and very kindly reassured me that baby was fine and not in any distress. Doc came in and gave me a lovely speculum internal, agreed that indeed I was bleeding and started asking about how much blood I'd lost etc - very difficult to answer with any degree of accuracy! Err, "a lot?" She wanted specifics - a tea cup full? Half a teacup full?.....Anyway, she said they'd have to admit me to keep an eye on it.

So thats about it. Saw doc again on friday who did another internal (with lovely speculum) who again agreed I was still bleeding but not overly worried as my abdomen wasn't tender. Told to stop in til bleeding had stopped.

Sat - saw cons who ordered steroid jabs, just in case Jerry decided to appear prior to 34 weeks. Ouch. She said I would have to stay in until bleeding had stoppped for 24-48 hours.

Mon - saw my own cons who agreed I could go home. I asked him about when I should go back to work and he said "oh possibly the end of this week" is he insane?. Mw gave me a sicknote for this week and I'll see my own gp either tomorrow or next monday.

I cannot believe how utterly knackered I am. I know I've been through a big shock and I am taking it extra easy but honestly, I feel like I'm drifting around in a little fog (not entirely unpleasant!). Still, the main thing is both Jerry and I are fine, thank the Lord!!!

If you made it this far - well done!!

sarahnh · 18/06/2008 09:50

Morning everyone,

Sorry about your bad news poppy lots of hugs going your way.

SassleA hope DD is feeling better today and well done on the diy, i don't know one end of a screwdriver from the other

Good luck with your appointment today Dizzy looking forward to hearing what they said.

Had mw appointment yesterday, all fine, little one lying with legs at my hips and head somewhere between my other hips and centre pelvis, also lying back to back... i had this with dd the last time and it was awful so praying she turns properly face down and back to front... mw said they would keep checking over next couple of appointments!

So sorry for all those suffering with piles, i have them too and consipation, i really cannot wait to get my body back!!!

One final thing is anyone starting to feel sick again??? never had it first time around, but have suffered this time and now it seems to be appearing again yuck xxx

Thanks sazzles I will ensure chips are on the order! Was it you who got admitted at 31 wks in your 1st pg? do you mind if I ask what with?

Good luck dizzy, thinking of you as you should be in your appt as I type!

sarahnh ouch for your babys position - mine is still breech which makes for sore ribs! HAve you had your Hb checked recently? Anaemia can make you feel sick too. Other than that it could be limited abdominal space squeezing your stomach and causing nausea?

Got gp appt this afternoon at 3pm (if I can stay awake! )

Expectant · 18/06/2008 11:45

Welcome back CC.

Sarah my SIL had back to back and had an awful time in labour ended up with c-section after many hours but fingers crossed yours will change position. She was also sick quite a lot towards the end.

Sazzles - thanks yes they seem to be out for their last drop of blood. I'm just a bit disheartened with it all as I'm feeling very homesick (DH is kindly bearing the brunt of this). Colleague's DH (the one in hospital) had cancer a few years back so hardly surprising she was worried sick about him. Have found a slight loophole that it is down to managers discretion so I'm exercising mine!

Sausageandmash · 18/06/2008 12:22

Dear All,

Is it too far down the line to join in this thread? I have been lurking on and off since just before the New Year, but following previous miscarriages, then a 'high risk' pregnancy and finally an abnormality picked up at 23 weeks (which, thank goodness, now seems to have resolved), I have been a bit loath to post, just in case I 'jinx' the pregnancy.

Anyhow, at 30 weeks, I've decided to throw caution to the wind and would love to remind myself of the intricacies of labour/new borns etc. Basic stats - due 24th August, we know the sex (because of the abnormality issue) but are keeping it quiet so it's a surprise for our family, I'm old at 37, it's my second (3 dd) and I live in central London.

I can't promise to post as regularly as you do (you lot are prodigious writers!) but will try and keep up! Captain Caveman, so glad that things are back on an even keel for you.

TwilightSurfer · 18/06/2008 12:47

Captain thank you for sharing your story. I know it was very frightening. I guess, since you didn't include it, they never determined the source or cause of the bleed??? I'm glad your doing better now and attempting a little normalcy.

Sazzles if you lived on our street, I'd have been the only one who noticed the flashing lights. Seems I've watched everyone of my neighbors be carted off in an ambulance at one point or another since we moved here six years ago. I'm also the one in the neighborhood that ends of taking the neighbors pets home after they've escaped (dogs, cats, horses). I've been questioned by the police after accidently witnessing a theft and had to give a court statement for witnessings some vandalism. You'd think I didn't have a LIFE!!

Expectant you just pull that manager weight and shoes those idiots who's in charge!!

Sarahn I've been sicky too. It's not as strong as the first trimester but it's really there causing me to barf occasionally.

As for me, I'm very uncomfortable this morning. Started last night. MAJOR MAJOR BH! They slacked off so I could sleep BUT a little midbelly pain remained. Now I think the baby is cockeyed in my belly and the BH have returned. {{{sigh}}} I think I'll just sit here for a while and see what happens.

Dizzy, hope all is going well for you!!!
