babs, thanks for the tip but a bit late for me! Unless anyone offers acupuncture at 4.30am!

babs10000 · 14/06/2008 04:39

why you're being induced thurs?

debinaustria · 14/06/2008 04:40

HI Babs - it's me being induced on Thursday - Sponge is going in today, so I'll bear your suggestions in mind - thanks for the tips

babs10000 · 14/06/2008 04:41

a water birth is the most amazing thing. you nust do it!

spongebrainbigpants · 14/06/2008 04:41

no, I'm being induced at 8am this morning! debs is being induced thursday - think we must have crossed posts!

babs10000 · 14/06/2008 04:42

honestly, as they tell you I went into labour within 24 hours of having it..third baby was early!

debinaustria · 14/06/2008 04:42

I've been told that my baby is too big for a water birth!, he's about 4kg at the moment, they obviously have different rules here in Austria

spongebrainbigpants · 14/06/2008 04:45

ooh lots of posts crossing now! my MN connection is v slow this morning - extremely frustrating!

babs, I am gutted not to be able to birth in water - it looks like an amazing experience and I did so much research to get myself prepared for it, but LO had other ideas! Maybe next time! I would have used acupuncture of I'd gone overdue, but my due date is not until 22nd so this has all taken me by surprise!

debs, yes I am very excited, but also v nervous - understandable I suppose . . .

spongebrainbigpants · 14/06/2008 04:47

debs, that is v strange - when I went to our water birth evening at our local hospital the MW was telling us about a woman who birthed her THIRTEEN pound daughter in water!

But, like you say, all hospitals seem to have different protocols. How disappointing for you though.

debinaustria · 14/06/2008 04:48

My MN is slow too, maybe they do work to it in these early hours!!

Chat to me to take your mind of it, are you nervous of the actual labour or the whole scary prospect of becoming parents?

debinaustria · 14/06/2008 04:49

I wanted water births with both boys, ds1's heart didn't react right to the contractions and ds2 was just too quick, so I was hoping for 3rd time lucky!!

babs10000 · 14/06/2008 04:51

having had 3 awful birthing experiences onthe nhs I was with my friend who delvered in a pool at home and it was amazimg.she was serene and calm and the whole labour lasted about 4 hours...compared to my hell i was amazed it could be like that. I thnk having a friend there who has been through it is invaluable too

spongebrainbigpants · 14/06/2008 04:56

debs, I'm nervous about being induced cos I've heard it can be pretty intense in terms of how fast and painful the contractions are and I hate needles so I'm not looking forward to canulas/epidurals etc.

I think I am also nervous about whether I'll be a good mum - I think we've had so long to think about what it will be like and be envious of all of our friends and their kids, and then you have your own little bundle and it's like, ohmigod!!!

babs, sorry you had such bad experiences. I'm having my mum with me for the birth - not only does she have four kids but she is also a trained midwife (now retired) and health visitor. Dh is obviously going to be there too, but he has no more idea what to expect then me!!

debinaustria · 14/06/2008 04:56

Think I might try to get some more sleep now, good luck Sponge - looking forward to the photos.

debinaustria · 14/06/2008 04:59

I'm also nervous about the induction part!!

As for being parents, it does take a while for reality to hit, I came home and just cried with ds1 at the enormity of it all. But it didn't last long. I'm sure you'll both be fantastic parents and your precious baby will be so loved.

dylansmumplusone · 14/06/2008 05:24

i haven't read down yet but morning ladies! woken up by a couple of fairly strong contractions so thought i should have some breakfast and bounce on my ball for a bit. any other suggestions to make sure they don't stop??

just going to read down now!

spongebrainbigpants · 14/06/2008 05:41

debs, hope you got back to sleep. I failed completely and, having been awake since 2am, am now completely knackered! Do remember telling dh when I got up this morning that I didn't need as much sleep as him today as I could sleep between contractions!! Think I'm in for a bit of a rude awakening in a few hours!

dylansmum, hope the contractions continue - my MW told me to keep active, but it did bugger all for me!

whinegums · 14/06/2008 06:34

I need to get some blackout curtains I think - I've been awake since just after 4. Have given in and got up for some cereal.

Ooooh, dylansmun and spongebrain, good luck!

Rolf · 14/06/2008 06:46

Spongebrain - good luck today. I'll be thinking of you. Soon you'll be holding your lovely baby . I'm frightened of induction too even though I've been through it before and it's really not too bad. The thought of it and anticipation are worse than the reality.

Dylansmum - how are the contractions?

Deb - some BH in the night but no more than usual. Nothing happening. I'm on my own today with the children so a bit nervous in case something happens - which will probably guarantee that it won't! I've wanted a water birth with all of mine and never been able to. Really struggling to focus on the end product not the style of delivery.

Whinegums this insomnia is the pits isn't it? I'm only up now becuase DH has to go to work and "needs" me to help him get up .

dylansmumplusone · 14/06/2008 07:01

good luck for today spongebrain!!

i had some cereal and a banana and then ds woke up, gave him so milk and then i managed to go back to sleep for about an hour. as soon as i woke up i had another one. just as strong but a bit shorter. so bouncing on my ball again and fingers crossed!! it definitely feels like it's happening. it's been a while but these aren't bh!! it's so nice to think that i get to just hang out at home and see what happens! will do my best to keep you informed!

PearTart · 14/06/2008 07:48

Good luck on your induction Sponge- how exciting to be holding your babe soon.

Dylan'smum- keep bouncing and I hope it happens for you too.

My due date:-
Happy Due Date to me
I went for a wee
I had a little sneeze
And out came a Baby!

(or not!)

debinaustria · 14/06/2008 08:31

Happy due date Peartart love your little song

Rolf - hope the weather's good for you today and the children can get out to play, leaving you to think about the baby !! Yesterday I was happy to be given an induction date as it means there's an end in sight but in the early hours I started reading up on inductions and people's experiences - not feeling quite so happy about it now!!

DLM - sounding good, keep on bouncing

Whinegums I went back to bed at 6.00 and did sleep again but have woken up very grumpy and negative, instead of thinking another day closer to seeing my baby, I'm thinking another day when I haven't gone into labour.

whinegums · 14/06/2008 10:11

Back up again after more weird dreams!!!

Deb, I read a lot about inductions too (they seem to run in my family) - there were some good experiences. Think it depends on how 'ready' you are anyway. Sounds like you've had quite a lot of positive ready signs, so I have my fingers crossed for you that you'll have a good experience. Who knows, it might all kick off without help anyway.

Happy due date Peartart.

Rolf - your DH needs help to get up?! Have to say, I've quite enjoyed the past few days that DP has been away!

Dylansmum - looking forward to the updates.

Wonder how Spongebrain is getting on.

sophiewd · 14/06/2008 10:28

Hey Deb we could be birthing buddies on Thursday

fungle · 14/06/2008 10:36

Happy Due date Peartart!
Good luck to Sponge!
Wow, millions of babys born on the 11th, Congratulations to all.
On the subject of induction, I was induced at 40+10 last time, and although i would really like to go into labour naturally this time It wasn't a bad experience at all. Like whinegums says it depends on how ready you already are. I must have been fairly ready, I had one dose of prostaglandin gel at 5.30pm, felt nothing until around 10.30, backache. Contractions begun at around midnight, really intensified by 2ish, pushing by 4.30, DD out at 5.10. It can be more intense if induced, but so long as your aware of this I think its much the same as any labour could go.
I felt rotten yesterday, think Im just so worn out and fed up of being pregnant now. I feel in limbo until post baby....anyone else feeling a bit that way?
Slept reasonably well last night! Didnt wake until 6.45am, bonus.
Feeling better today, inlaws round for lunch, feel like I just need to keep busy, but without overdoing it.
Hope you all have a super day!
