The birth of Sophie Louie
Well as you all know I posted to say I was going into hospital on Monday and arrived about 8am. Had been having regular contractions for about 4 hours. Monitor showed regular strong contractions but unfortunatley internal showed I was only 1cm and the head was still high. So I was sent up to the antenatal ward. Contractions started to get more intense at lunch time and closer together but there was no-one available to do another examination so they gave me some co-codamol
Things slowed down a bit after that and speeded up in the evening to the point where I had progressed to a whopping 2cm and needed pethidine. There was no space on delivery suite so I stayed overnight on the antenatal ward keeping everyone awake breathing through the contractions. By morning I was at the end of my tether and needed gas and air but still no space on delivery suite, and I had only progressed to 3cm.
Eventually with no sleep for 1.5 days we were transferred to delivery suite at about 7.30pm. My water were broken and I had an hour mobile before I decided I could cope no more and had an epidural. It worked for about 2 hours and then my right side wouldn't take the top ups. Syntocin drip was started at about 1am when I was 4cm! By 5am I had dropped my BP so much I'd passed out and then vomitted. Then I was told I was 3cm and the head was still high... Faced with the fact we had been there for 2 days and I felt like I was going to die, we all agreed on a c section, but I even had to wait for that - we were queuing for theatre! My DP was in absolute bits at this point and it was really hard on him - it makes me cry everytime I think about his face.
Eventually I had my c section which went really well, and Sophie Louie was born weighing 9lb 2oz. She came out into the world looking as if she had just had a bath, and looked so like my first DD we couldn't believe it!
I'm sorry if this all sounds very negative, but there was very little positive in the experience/process. I'm so overjoyed with my DD but emotionally I am living up to my nickname and I'm in bits.
Good luck to everyone else - hopefully everyone will fare better than me!
My DD1 is very taken with the new arrival and we have a lovely photo of her kissing Sophie. I'll post it when I can.
My thoughts are still with Josey and her family too
