Captain's DH just replied to my email. Still no idea what caused the bleed but baby is moving around like nothing's wrong. That must be an excellent sign.

Healthy and Well to CaptainCaveman!!

I can never tell either, Sazz.

Mw phoned; apparently I have protein in my wee, so I have to be alert for any signs of pre-eclampsia over the weekend and take another sample in on Monday for retesting. I'm sure it's just a touch of UTI, but am still glad I took today off.

Yes make sure you rest cyteen. Any swelling or headaches make sure you give the midwife a call x

cyteen · 13/06/2008 16:29

Cheers girls Am drinking tea and eating biscuits, the Englishwoman's cure-all

pregnancy1 · 13/06/2008 17:01

Oh, fingers crossed for CC.

Makes my intended post seem v pathetic in context... ah well.
Just wanted to moan about the fact i have DH's summer ball to go to tonight. I'm feeling huge and the last thing I want to do is put on a tent which shows my cankles and pretend to be polite to a bunch of IT consultants (I can say that - I used to be one!). Bought a new Isabella Oliver dress (as have a wedding in a few weeks too) and felt fabulous in it when it first arrived 2 weeks ago, but haven't tried it on since and have convinced myself that I will now look like a hot air balloon in a sock. I haven't helped by eating a pain au chocolate for breakfast, jacket potato for lunch followed by a tracker bar and a snickers . Don't normally eat junk, but needed it to get through the thought of putting on my hold ups. It didn't dawn on me until now that if I get sock marks from when my calves have swollen it'll be truly hideous seeing myself in hold ups if my thighs are up too!!! [hmmm].
Have a taxi booked at 6pm and am currently sitting at my desk killing time. How long will it take me to apply make up & get changed?
Think I need to find something other than myself to think about

Buckets · 13/06/2008 17:32

Have a good time Pgy1, remind your DH that you'll have earned a nice lie in and a cuppa in bed tomorrow. Maybe even breakfast out? Baby Buckets has been demanding fortnightly fryups since the day after conception (was sooooo hungover!) and as the ladies on that Big Babies said "it's so hard to say no to your kids".

VintageGardenia · 13/06/2008 17:34

HIi guys. I'm guessing everyone feels a bit funny about posting today when CC is in hospital. I know I do. I suppose the main thing is that babycavey seems to be fine and although I'm sure CC is tired and distressed at least she knows that, which is the biggest comfort. More hugs to her, and to her DH and DS as well, I'm sure they are feeilng the CC-shaped hole at home today.

I'm with Sazz and cyteen on never being able to tell where the baby is or what s/he is doing. I'm amazed at things like TS being able to say the baby was in three positions yesterday. I am currently getting action (whether kicks or punches I don't know) on the lower right and upper right sides of the bump. Can someone tell me how to identify if they are feet or hands doing this & how to tell what way up the baby is?? I presume if it's transverse you do see a definite shape-shift in the bump?

cyteen hope your urine trace fades. preg1 which IO dress did you get? Re. holdups would it be warm enough where you are to go barelegged?

dizzydixies · 13/06/2008 17:40

good grief

am away for ONE day, not even 24hrs and what happens?!?!?!

lordy lordy. Have sent a text to CC from us all telling her we're thinking of her - she had given me her mob number on facebook when I hadn't managed to post for a few days due to work - am now hoping she doesn't think I'm a stalker or some weirdo!

lovely CaptainDippy for telling us, bless him and fingers crossed all well with wee Jerry

cyteen panic not, I have had protein in urine every time this pg and yes, it can be an early indication of preclampsia but more often not. Do watch for other signs but don't panic

VG cramps have gone completely for past few nights although can't really credit that to the vileness that is tonic water, I discovered Irn Bru had quinine in it and have been drinking that instead
btw - have found out that health insurance does not cover reflexology so tell me, is it worth forking out for? also am kind of Irish by default/marriage etc so don't be lonely

hazie get your rock star backside down to Monsoon, there is a fab frock in the window, sort of a blue and purple thing and it looked lovely

poppy had a lovely morning pootling about in St Andrews after the Osteopath - who was lovely btw if you ever need one.

pregnancy1 am hoping that you're being over critical on yourself and that the ball turns into one of those nights where you don't look forward to it but it is infact fab

sazz am off to address your email lady

VintageGardenia · 13/06/2008 17:48

dd I regard you as adopted Irish! Come be my facebook friend, email me at my vintage gardenia @ gmail . com unless you prefer remain anon (which I won't be offended by, by the way!)

Re. reflex it depends how much it's going to be. My sessions are 55 euro each (but she comes to the house) - is that about 40 quid? But also I think there are people who love it and find it helpful and people who don't. Loads of people have advised me to use acupuncture for e.g. but I'm not that bothered about it.

TwilightSurfer · 13/06/2008 17:59

Okay I am home again with medical records in hand but had to pay $93US for them. WTF!! I'd say I have 35 sheets of paper. That cost as much as a prenatal massage (WITH TIP). ARGHH!!

No news from Captain, I see. I suppose she's resting (in between being checked every half hour). I don't know if it sympathy feelings or just pregnancy related but just after my last posted I threw up everything I'd eaten for breakfast. Haven't done that in a long while. I really hope she and the baby are okay.

Sazzles the only way I can tell when the baby is head down is by her hiccups. That's sorta the same way when she's head up except I also feel alot of discomfort on my pelvic floor. When she is transverse....I feel like I'm being torn apart from the insides out...plus there's loads of pressure on my hips, I can't sit with my legs crossed, and I get this duck walk thing. Honestly, I don't recall being able to tell so well the position of DD1...but again I was too busy...I had NO TIME to think about me or what was in me. If you start paying attention to hiccups you might be able to tell how your baby is positioned. High hiccups (like rib cage level) then the baby is breech. Low & centered hiccups (like lady garden level) baby is head down. Pressure on both hips at the same time and she's probably transverse. [NOTE: I AM NOT AN EXPERT...I ONLY PLAY ONE ON TV.]

dizzydixies · 13/06/2008 18:06

VG tbh I haven't even priced it yet, am only beginning to get organised now that work is finished - will phone a couple of places near and have a chat.

TS am not fecking surprised you're throwing up with lo doing cartwheels in there she was probably being nudged by breakfast and decided to shove it back out

Buckets · 13/06/2008 18:23

TS 93$ that's shocking! It's your information! Think I had to pay about £10 admin charge for DD's notes which is fair enough. I'm sure you'll get a lot of benefit from them though, I did (if you can read the handwriting).

Right shopaholic ladies, can anyone find me a wipeable changemat in a duck egg blue / aqua colour please?

alittlebitshy · 13/06/2008 18:26

ooh VG can i be your facebook friend too. Once you;re on dd's friends list look for me - I'm near the end of the list with initials K C T (facebook can't handle double barrelled without hyphens)

Shazza2002 · 13/06/2008 18:30

I feel the kicks and punches in the same place as you VG So I'm presuming back is on left hand side. I have very solid bit between boobs and belly button. I'm presuming that's bum/hips. Wouldn't it be great to know

dizzydixies · 13/06/2008 18:32

ALBS you're making me sound like a right facebook slut here

buckets will have a look for your mat after I make dh his tea, he's claiming neglect here ffs

girls quick CC update!!

CC can read the posts as she has patientline something or other but am not sure if she can post

dh and ds have been in to visit, she's not in any pain and bleeding seems to have slowed which is great news. midwives are all being lovely to her although she's tired from lack of sleep

send her all your love and positive thoughts please

VintageGardenia · 13/06/2008 18:34

Yes excellent albs. I didn't know you lot were all facebooking, was I off sick that day ?

Shazza that's what I thought too except that the rhs of my bump feels more spiney than the lhs. Then a punch could be an elbow and therefore at the opposite end of a bent arm.
Oh I'm confusing myself!

dizzydixies · 13/06/2008 18:35

VG have emailed so am hoping you get it

TwilightSurfer · 13/06/2008 18:56

Okay I've just finished reading all my hospital notes. Looks like somebody scored some drugs that I refused as it's documented that I was given them ( and then on another form it CLEARLY states that I refused them). Also noticed I had a choice of pain meds....never offered anything but ONE. Also doctor stated I could be discharged much sooner than I was TOLD by nursing staff. Seems I pushed for a few minutes longer than I remember, oh well. Very glad I picked the papers up but still at their price. I ordered 20 years worth of notes from my previous OB/GYN and that only cost me $20US and it was twice as many (or more) pages. GRRRR

Okay, on the bump feeling front...Doc told me round and hard is the head....plump and soft is the bum. Everything else is anyone's guess.

OP posts:
longwayfromhome · 13/06/2008 18:59

Thinking of CC, with prayers today.

About the baby position - I think that I am with TS on knowing where it is definitely when it is transverse it is obvious that there is a head sticking out of one side and a bum out the other. For the last couple of days the kicks have been much more muted and lower down (still plenty of them, so trying not to worry too much), so I think that this is a sign that the baby may have moved again.

Re: facebook - I was about to suggest that someone could start a "MN due in August 2008" group - but I kind of realised that we do our chatting on line here, so it seemed a bit redundant!

Oh and pregnancy1 - I can still definitely recommend compression stockings if you want to feel sexy and beautiful!

Shazza2002 · 13/06/2008 19:08

Thinking of you CC, and baby of course. Make the most of the rest if you can. Hope you'll be back posting soon xx

Buckets · 13/06/2008 19:22

LWFH Maybe that's what the bactrian camel effect that I had the other day during a contraction? Very strange indeed, I do feel sorry for those with bumps like that all the time. Guess mine was in the middle of turning head over heels, hadn't thought of that - still no idea which way up it is now though.

Facebook group could be fun, purely from the nosy point of view.

dizzydixies · 13/06/2008 20:06

TS at someone else getting your jolly meds, I had my watch set by the drugs trolley when I was in having the girls!

have got a text from CC who says that the parentline thingy is shite and really slow so can't post should we start a whip round for a due in Aug blackberry and send it to her?!?!

buckets feel free to email me and I'll tell you my facebook stuff - from there you can link up with a few of the others

[email protected]
