Kids back at school today and dh back at work after a week off. Dh was very grumpy last night that I hadn't managed to have the baby early so he had to go to work, and then ds very grumpy this morning that he had to go school. It's not as if I am deliberately holding on to this baby for god's sake!

Rolf - what an insensitive midwife! Try not to worry about it and not to be too upset. I find myself being irrationally worried about labour and birth this time around which I never did for the other two. I am freakishly concerned that I will bleed to death after labour and leave my two precious angels with no mum - How stupid is that? Its even starting to affect my desire for a home birth.

bitofadramaqueen · 02/06/2008 09:03

Morning all!

Had a marginally better nights sleep. It took me hours to get to sleep, but I only woke up once or twice.

Plan for today - make a gentle start on the housework I haven't done all weekend, make list of things still needed for changing bag, attempt to bake a cake and think about some studying. If I achieve one of those 4 things I'll be impressed .

Welcome fungle - glad you found us! If you cut and paste the most recent list of graduates/due dates that aberdeen has updated this morning into a new post, you'll then appear on our list.

Some breakfast before the housework I think...

Upsidedowncake · 02/06/2008 09:17

Morning everyone

My maternity leave starts today officially - so I now I really do have to sort the baby's bedroom, do birth plan and pack the damn hospital bag.

My lovely cousin stayed with us last night and I got 7.5 hours sleep so feeling much better this morning - and YAAAAAY! DH just phoned and is back. Thank you to all of you for your support while he's been away.

Welcome Fungle. Tell us more about yourself. Where are you based? Is this your no 1?

Sybil - how inconsiderate of you not to go into labour last week! (Was your DH the one who wanted to schedule it round Roland Garros?)

ROlf, !!! your MW. Hope you're feeling OK today.

Debs, glad you slept well.

Aberdeen, LOL you sharing the profits. Sorry about BH - how are you feeling emotionally?

DQ - glad you slept better. I would start off by thinking about studying ... There done! You can cross it off your list!

Peartart - I completely empathise with 5 am fears. What are your plans for DD?

Sponge - glad you had a good birthday and lots of lovely pressies.

Right! off to start preparing for the baby.

bitofadramaqueen · 02/06/2008 09:22

Morning UDC - glad you had a good nights sleep and that DH is back. Very good suggestion re 'thinking about studying' . Though you have reminded me that I'm 37 weeks now and still dont have a birth plan written down. Anyone else the same (please say yes someone!!!).

Upsidedowncake · 02/06/2008 09:28

Me! No birth plan. No hospital bag. Stuff all over baby's bedroom floor.

LauraT · 02/06/2008 09:37

Morning all!

It's my last day at work, hooray! Have got a facial booked for tomorrow as a stopping work treat and Mum arriving on Tuesday to make a fuss of me (read as do the ironing and gardening)!

Had a lovely though busy weekend, with BIL and SIL up on Friday night for a couple of days. we were out for brunch in the morning and then they headed off to a wedding, so we took the opportunity of some free time to collect our pram and car seat and put them together. I normally do all the constructing of things as DH has a tendency to try and use brute force rather than assuming what he's doing is incorrect and reading the instructions, so I found it rather difficult to sit and watch him. I made him listen to each instruction before carrying it out though and we got through it unscathed. It was boiling in Glasgow on Saturday so we managed to go for a swim in the afternoon as well, which was very nice indeed.

on Sunday we got rid of BIL and SIL to be replaced with friends who came for dinner, they arrived absolutely laden down with gifts and desserts! Ideal dinner guests!

am taking it very easy today and hope you all are too. good luck TGF you've probably had the baby by now! and well done pyjamarama and paro

I'm going to recopy that list in because poor amber has disappeared AGAIN and I don't want her to think it's personal!

PearTart · 02/06/2008 09:51

Morning UDC- knackered after 5am wake up. Planning to phone around friends when we go into labour, a few people have loosely said they'll help. But my most useful and nearest friend is away until 9th June so I'm holding on. Luckily there are no signs of things happening imminently.

One friend said I should bring DD to her in the night if that's when it happens, but DD never wakes at night and I think she'd be really scared by being taken to and left at someone else's house at 3am. She'd just cry until she was exhausted- I think that would be a terrible way to start life with a sibling. I was quite upset when this friend said she'd rather not come to mine. We have a spare bed ready etc!

DD's birth was fast and uncomplicated (5 1/2 hours) and if DD2's birth follows the pattern I shouldn't be in too long, and DH would be able to come home to look after her before long anyway.

I think about it all the time- "who would I call if it happened now..." I'm hoping for a day-time labour so I can take DD to nursery if they have an extra place that day, or after 9th.
I've heard that your body can wait until the right moment before progressing so I hope this happens for me.

Sorry to go on. I think this is my biggest fear.

needahand · 02/06/2008 10:06

Right there are 9 pages of posts since friday! 9!!! before I plod through tell me, did I miss any birth while I was furiously nesting?

Mind you I thought may be I would give birth last night. My nesting is so bad I have litterally turned the house upside down and can have no rest until it is done (which is very odd as I am in no way a domestic goddess, far from it and I never had that with DD).

Anyway after a good 12 hours of sorting. moving crates, tidying and 1 hour of aquanatal. I went to bed at 23.00 and was just so achy I couldn't walk. I had lover back pains, braxton hick and all my joints were aching (not very clever to do all that with SPD!!!). And my bump was pulling downwards so much I thought the baby would just drop on the floor. So I had to beg him to stay inside so that I could have a tiny bit of rest...only to do it all over again today!!

Please tell me this madness will stop soon, it is like I am possessed

bitofadramaqueen · 02/06/2008 10:13

needahand if you run out of things at your house you could come to mine - I've got loads of jobs that need to be done .

needahand · 02/06/2008 10:17

Congratulations pyjarama and well done for picking the c-section! They say you have to trust your instincts as your body knows best! Sounds definitely true in your case!!
I hope you are getting loads of rest and will is a very cute name.

alipalli · 02/06/2008 10:18

needahand you missed paro's and pajamarama's LOs arriving, the Green Fairy's water's breaking (still waiting to hear back from her assuming it might all have happened by now), and I think that was about it.

Rolf · 02/06/2008 10:26

PearTart - I was worried about the children until my in-laws arrived last week. I could see every tentative ocntingency just going wrong. My dad lives around the corner but he really oculdn't cope with the children and I had a spell of feeling sad about that too. Sorry you're worried about it. It will work out on the day but it's difficult to see that when you're worried isn't it?

NeedaHand - come and nest over here! I spend a few minutes nesting then need a sit down, then I lose interest . Total pregnabrain going on here.

Today I need to apologise to all the people I was horribly rude to yestereday! My children, my DH, my father, my brother.... . The builder and his team each greeted me this morning with "still here then?". Thank goodness for my in-laws for taking the children to school - I just couldn't have faced any more "still here then?" remarks.

Enjoy your last day Laura Sybil - I've been worried about things going horribly wrong, too. I know it's normal to worry like that but still horrible.

Deb - I have now given up thinking the baby will be early and am trying to focus on 40 + 14 as my due date. As that's the date of DS1's first communion it's not very reassuring.

I was in town the other day and looked around for clothes that might be suitable but there really is very little that fits the criteria of saggy belly, leaky boobs, easy access to leaky boobs, varicose veins, sick on shoulder...Apart from a sick-coloured burkha with flaps

alipalli · 02/06/2008 10:27

Hello fungle welcome to a very chatty board. Miss a day and you never catch up!

Congratulations UDC on your first proper day of ML. Its great isn't it?

Laura nearly there now. Hope that you are focusing on eating your fair share of hobnobs on your last day at work and not actually doing any work. at you facial tomorrow. I am considering booking some kind of beauty treatment during this week as I could have a lot of empty days waiting for this baby to put in appearance.

Some of you may remember a fortnight ago that my cleaner failed to materialise on Monday afternoon. No such problem this week. Arrived at 10am instead, with me still in pjs (of course), and having not done the pre cleaner tidying that I had planned before lunch. Just run round the house picking up discarded clothes, newspapers, post etc.

My plan for today is to skulk in the basement working on my baby blog. Started it yesterday, but finding it really hard to get going. Even picking a name for the blog took an hour. Keep on flicking back to some of your blogs and thinking how creative, and eloquent you all are.

alipalli · 02/06/2008 10:31

Rolf if it makes you feel any better, I went through a phase yesteday of being mean to DH regardless of what he did. He said later on that he realised that he wasn't the worst person in the world and he just decided to ignore me until the storm passed. In my defence he had just botched putting a shelf up in the nursery. I hate it when we do DIY together, it feels so out of control (and normally is).

needahand · 02/06/2008 10:32

Oh my god, I am on page 6 and GF's water have broken! SHe maybe having the baby right now! fingers crossed she gets her vaginal breech delivery. Sending loads of positive vibes!!

Upsidedowncake · 02/06/2008 10:43

Hi Peartart, your last birth. Re getting organised, it depends on your character. I'm a real control freak and it has helped me to have a list of people on the fridge who know they are IT. I was in hospital for 5 days last time, so I may need a bit more childcare than you!!!! I've also heard that your body can wait until the right moment.

oooh, sounds like you're nesting, Needahand!

Gemzooks - EDD???

Had a very disturbed night's sleep and having terrible BH this morning. Heaviness and dragging is almost unbearable at the moment - needahand I can thorough sympathise.

Supposed to be doing some baby preparation myself this morning, when I get round to it.

needahand · 02/06/2008 10:51

peartart I have had the same problem. My BF initially said to me she would come and look after DD only to tell me the other day: "Have you told DD that she will go on the train etc to go to London". And I thought "are you mad? Do you really think you are going to take DD to london and how on earth would DH cope with having to go to london to fetch DD after labour". Now we have managed to sort out alternative care luckily but it is a headache. This said I am also hoping for a daytime labour when DD is at nursery. I can completely relate to your fear as I have been let down by so many people (why do they offer help if they don't really mean it or if it would make your life worse)

Sponge happy birthday one day late

Laura enjoy your last day at work!!

And a big wave to all as there is not way I can reply to all individually.

Thanks for the offers of nesting at other places. I am so bonkers at the moment, I might. Then again I might just drop with exhaustion at some point. This is not normal at all! I have even managed to get DH at it so we were both frantically emptying garage, wardrobes etc all weekend. The place looked like a bombsite though!!

Right onto the now next cupboard now

ErnestTheBavarian · 02/06/2008 10:53

I wish I could be about at the w/e - it's impossible to keep up. Seem PJ has graduated. congratulations Hope you're manyging to get lots of r&r.

It is still unbearably hot here. Truly mad burny burny. I'm hiding indoors as much as possible. I can't believe a week today I'll have a baby!!!

Saw on news a bit about cot death & it was saying the 2 most important things are keeping room at good temp - not letting baby get too hot & not smoking. Well, the smoking is no prob - we don't, but the heat Our bedroom is so horribly hot atm it's kind of worried me. My bedroom was 27 degrees last night!

ds had his 1st Holy COmmunion yesterday. He was so excited and proud, tho v. low key, as he did it on his own. The church even laid on a giant cake buffet for him, which was very sweet, and a bit as the service had already gone on 1.5 hours & we were meeting dh after, who has a bit of a problem with church anyway, but stood waiting half an hour in the baking heat didn't improve his mood. At all. SO had to just a piece of cake, say thanks but sorry we're off. and now I won't be able to go for at least 2 weeks. Feels a bit hit and run. oops.

Is it hot where everyone else is? I'm praying the weather will turn. Soon.

And finally, is anyone else 'ready'? I'm panicking - our car insurance needs sorting, big time, the house is a tip, still not got curtains made for baby's room, my to do list is frightening. WHo is nesting and bored and fancies a 'break ' in sunny mUnich?

Amberc · 02/06/2008 10:55

Morning! 2 questions:

  1. Just been trying to purchase a father's day pressie for the other half before the baby is born - is that bad luck? My due date 11th June/Father's day 15th. If I wait till the baby is born I won't have time/inclination - hmmm what to do?
  1. Can you ask for an induction early by the way (before 40 weeks?). I have a date I DO NOT want to give birth on as it's the first anniversary of my mum's death (which was very horrible and awful) and it's only 3 days after my due date.

Peartart - your due date is very close to mine but as this is my first he'll probably be late - my bump picture just scares me everytime I look at it! Keep me informed of any labour signs and we can compare!

Rolf - don't forget SATC is 2.5 hours long - I took a pillow and it made it much more comfy! It's actually very watchable.

Laura T - thanks for putting me back on the list - clearly I am far too sensitive - I guess waking every 45 mins for a pee has made me a big mentalist!

ErnestTheBavarian · 02/06/2008 11:00

amber, no idea about early inductions, or how likely they'd take non-medical reasons into account, tho I fully understand. You're the 2nd one here with near-clashes with a parent's death

re pressie - why would it be bad luck???? ANyway my 2 thoughts are - get it now, there's no way you'll feel up to it then.

2nd - isn't producing a brand new baby a cool enough Fathers Day pressie???? Get him nowt, or a crad if you feel you must.

bitofadramaqueen · 02/06/2008 11:13

11.08 and still done nothing on my list. However, showered and dressed so that's an achievement!

Ernest - what do the medical profession over there suggest for cooling down a room? Can you use a fan maybe (if it's not directed straight at the baby)? The weather not brilliant here at the mo, it was scorching in Saturday but miserable either side of that (not good when you can only fit into birkies or flip flops!). Glad DS enjoyed holy communion, I really need to 'unlapse' and get myself over to church sometime before the baby is born...

Alipalli good luck with your baby blog.

Ok, I'm going to go and do a little bit of housework so I can tick something off my list before lunchtime.

Amberc · 02/06/2008 11:18

Thanks Ernestthebavarian, much as I'm sure the birth of my baby would somewhat eclipse the anniversary of my mum's death in terms of emotion, I would rather have the two things on different days as totally different feelings obviously - who is the other person - would be interesting to talk with them.

Thinking bad luck buying a father's day pressie before baby is born as it's like buying a celebratory cake saying well done for a driving test you haven't taken yet - superstitious I know and probably very silly. Too late now anyway - I have done it. Got flying lessons to fulfil boyfriend's boyhood dream! He's a lucky man!! I will have to throw my superstitious hat out of the window.
