Hello everyone, Congratulations Tassiss, sounds a lovely arrival into the world and great for your other 2 to meet her the next morning!

Nothing happening here - no fantasy birth, out for lunch today down a very bumpy road - fingers crossed!!

Text from Ernest - she's having trouble with BF this time, and is missing MN for advice. Will reply now with news from Josey and Tassiss.

Josey - how are things today?

systemsaddict · 08/06/2008 11:08

What a fantastic birth story tassisss - gives me hope! If we can do similar it will be lovely and untraumatic for ds. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for asking after him Peartart, he's much better in himself but ear still very gungey. Hope your dd stays well now too! We had paddies after he had been ill as well, I think they just get so tired and it takes them a few days to get back on track. Hope you are having a lovely day today.

Was feeling rough enough last night to consider phoning childcare plans A and B, with several definite minute-long pulls around the cervix area, but I don't know - might just be muscle strains from having a nasty cough, and definitely not strong enough to be proper labour contractions. Plus I was incredibly emotional and sobbing at everything - not like me! I still feel very rough today, exhausted, hangovery and twingey, and threw up this morning, but again, that could be from coughing. Could be pre-labour, but that could last days or weeks going by everyone else's tales ... Dp has taken ds off for a walk now anyway so I will curl up and rest now. Still can't decide whether to phone people to prepare them that they might be on call for ds duty, but I think really I need to wait for something more definite to happen. At least there is something going on though - last time I didn't get anything like this at all, so am really hoping it means there's a hormonal shift somewhere.

Ds said 'Where are you babby?' to the bump yesterday - possibly his first 4-word sentence - he has obviously worked out what's going on!

alipalli · 08/06/2008 11:45

SA - so sweet what your DS said to the bump. From those symptoms it does sound as though things might be beginning to happen for you. My fingers are crossed. Hope you either feel brighter soon, or this is the start of a Debs style fantasy labour!

Tassisss - big congratulations, what an amazing birth story.

emotionalwreck · 08/06/2008 11:48

Morning all

Nothing happening here either. Passed a bit more of a show last night but no new pains - just the usual.

I had a mad theory this morning that I have tested.... Thought that if I did something that you shouldn't really do when you are overdue, then chances are I would go into labour.

So I went to the supermarket alone and did a massive shop, without the safety of my mobile phone to accompany me.... how very daring. Needless to say it didn't work. Might try something a bit moire daring tomorrow like skiing at he local dry slope

Upsidedowncake · 08/06/2008 12:27

How exciting, Systems addict! Fingers crossed and legs uncrossed.

Emotionalwreck - more show! Good luck!

Tassisss - what a wonderful birth story and how fantastic that you were home for your DCs not to even know that you had gone. What were your other births like?

Debs, thanks for news re Ernest

Ktpie, good job on birth plan and bags. My doula's coming round tomorrow and we are going to get them done

Lovely DH has moved the changing table and DS's spare single bed into the baby's room so that I can BF lying down in the middle of the night if I need to. DS was surprisingly unfussed about the changing table going. It's all coming together! 38 weeks today!

Upsidedowncake · 08/06/2008 12:29

bitofadramaqueen · 08/06/2008 12:57

Congratulations for Tassissss, lovely birth story and more congrats for Aberdeen. He's a cutie Aberdeen hope you doing well and back on MN soon.

Deb thanks for Ernest update, sorry to hea bf not going too well - hopefully she'll be back for some MN wisdom sometime soon.

Thanks all for reassurance re: swollen hands. The internet is a dangerous thing, and I did have 'but what if it IS pre-eclampsia' moment late last night... but I just couldn't face another long evening wait in hospital to be told everything ok.

Hands still puffy today, and the one that I have carpal tunnel syndrome in is much worse which gives added reassurance that it really is just fluid retention. Its nice to know that others are going through the same thing (though I wish you all weren't obviously!).

Had a very lazy morning today, now planning to get dressed and crack on with the spring cleaning. Hope most of you doing something a bit nicer with your Sunday!

systemsaddict · 08/06/2008 13:06

Well spotted UDC and huge congrats to Aberdeen and family!

EW a show must mean your cervix is moving around surely - fingers crossed!

emotionalwreck · 08/06/2008 13:11

SA - you'd think so but having had that huge one on wednesday and then nothing.... Your guess is as good as mine!

Aberdeenhiker Well done! He's gorgeous.

spongebrainbigpants · 08/06/2008 13:13

AH, huge congratulations - what a cutie! Fraser is a lovely name - I suggested it to my dh last night but he couldn't understand why I'd gone all Scottish on him when we have no Scottish connections whatsoever - maybe I was just getting some spooky vibes about your brand new DS!

DQ, sorry to hear about your hands - my hands are swollen and very sore and my feet continue to resemble elephant feet! I've been told that I'm fine and don't need checking again unless I develop bad headaches too, which so far I haven't (fingers crossed). My MW also mentioned carpal tunnel to me, but no idea what this is so don't know whether I have it.

38 weeks today and the pelvic pain is now becoming excrutiating. No sign of any movement out from LO though so think I still have a couple of weeks to go yet . Feeling pretty cheesed off now - esp as another of my NCT friends has just gone into labour and I'm feeling v left behind. How sad is that!

josey · 08/06/2008 13:17

hi all
want to say thank you to everyone for your prayers and thoughts you guys are amasing to take time to think of me ann my family.

things have been rough today has been quite good as yest was a bad day. olivia is struggling to hold temp which suggests central brain damage so we are prepared for the severe end of disability when we get mri rsults. today shee has had lumper puncture to rule out menengitis. she was getting puffs to help lungs but no oxagen,so they have taken that away and her cathater whiich are all good signs. she is now being fed 8mls milk through a tube and she has lost weight which iis stupidly fantastic news. we hope to have her less sedated soon and see what she can do. im just glad she has past 72hours and is alive. there are worse thinggs in the world than havng a disabled child...we love her so much she is beautiful....hoping to get to hoold her more soon...we are aloud to wash feed and change her bum now which is good....my boobs are killing me though....feelinng proud as managed 110mls on last go.

i donnt want to bring thread down or expct you all to reead its a good diary for me though.

spongebrainbigpants · 08/06/2008 13:22

josey, I'm so sorry to hear of all you are going through with your gorgeous little girl - I cannot imagine how hard it must be for you and your dh.

Thank you for letting us know the progress, and that she is gradually being taken off some of her meds. Good news that you can feed and change her now, hope you can hold her more soon.

Have your other DCs been able to meet their new sister yet?

Our thoughts are with you.

Upsidedowncake · 08/06/2008 13:23

Thanks for posting Josey. We are thinking about you a lot. It's good to hear the updates so please keep on letting us know. Good news re weight loss. xx

systemsaddict · 08/06/2008 13:32

Thanks so much for keeping us informed about Olivia Josey, thinking of you all the time, glad you can start to do things with her and should be able to hold her more soon. Sounds like you're doing a fab job expressing, hope boobs settle down soon!

dylansmumplusone · 08/06/2008 13:52

josey i can't imagine what you're going through but you sound so strong, Olivia is a very lucky little girl with an amazing mummy!

big congrats and well done to aberdeenhiker and tasssisss!!!

thanks for update on ernest debs. i'm a bit nervous about bf this time but only time will tell how it goes!

i had sweep and scan today - sweep told me that everything's still closed up tight (drat) and scan told me head is definitely down (midwife couldn't tell because it was so low whether it was head or bum). so i'm engaged 1/5 and cervix is slightly soft but still high and fairly firm. on the bright side SPD has really eased so life is a lot more bearable.

Amberc · 08/06/2008 14:22

Congratulations tassisssss!

I had my second sweep this morning and was praised for my pain tolerence! Was brutal - she said she was massaging my cervix to soften it up and could feel it softening as she did it. 1cm dilated and central cervix. Had to put on a maternity pad at the hospital - they are like mattresses - and a pair of hospital disposable undercrackers as my little g string would never have held it and could have resulted in a situation with an escaped sanitary pad in the lift! Got home and had to run to the loo for a 'clearout' which I think is a good sign! They said they might induce me at 40+5 due to the size of the baby if he hasn't made an appearance by then. Fingers crossed sweep 2 might do something!

Amberc · 08/06/2008 14:29

Didn't read before posting - congrats too to Aberdeen and complete and utter admiration for you Josey and family for being so strong.

PiggyPenguin · 08/06/2008 14:41

Fantastic news tassisssss and Aberdeen Hiker, good to hear about our two new arrivals and lovely photo of Fraser.

Josey - you sound so strong. I am in awe of how wrll you are doing and hope that Olivia continues to do well. Hugs and love to all of you.

I have a pineapple, I have raspberry leaf tea. I am even considering going near dh although to be fair that may be a step too far...

sophiewd · 08/06/2008 14:55

Josey your positive outlook is an inspiration to us all and wishing you lots of love over the next few days.

AH congratulations, he is lovely.

Rolf · 08/06/2008 14:58

Thanks for updating us Josey. Hope your boobs settle down

aberdeenhiker - congratulations! What a lovely boy and all that beautiful hair

Tassisss - congratulations also! How lovely for your other children to meet Rebecca at home in bed.

Amber - hope this sweep gets things going for you. you too DM. Glad your SPD is so much better.

My next appointment isn't till Thursday but I'm thinking of calling tomorrow and asking if the MW will give me a very thorough internal (they can't officialy do a sweep until I'm a week overdue). Still no sign of anything happening and I'm really struggling now.

Thanks for the support about my weepy wobble. My in-laws will have to leave as planned due to accommodation availability and commitments back home. Hopefully DH will be able to try to work locally and help with the school run - but I need to be prepared for him to be working flat out too - one of the joys of being self-employed. You're all right that it will sort itself out. When MiL arrived this morning to take DD to church DD said "Mummy's been crying and was angry when I kicked her". Poor little mite. She's not doing anything a 2-year-old shouldn't do - she's just being a very full-on 2 year old.

Great that we've had a weekend delivery!

emotionalwreck · 08/06/2008 15:13

amberc Is it just totally wrong to be jealous of your central cervix?

Have had a bit more of a show this morning (3rd bit since wed) so surely mine is doing something???? Will know more Tuesday.

I am living up to my nickname since Josey's last post. Agree with Sophie - you are an inspiration

Rolf · 08/06/2008 15:53

I too covet Amber's cervix

emotionalwreck · 08/06/2008 15:55

Cervix envy - a new phenomenon?

bitofadramaqueen · 08/06/2008 15:59

Josey thanks for taking the time to update us. Really glad that there have been some good signs and hope your boobs aren't too painful.

Spongebrain - am so with you on the elephant feet, mine are bigger today than ever before! I got quite a shock when I caught sight of them earlier and they're quite sore today which is unusual for me (so far). I have been on my feet cleaning cupboards out in the kitchen though so maybe that's why. The carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by fluid in wrists/hands pressing on nerves. It can be quite painful (mine isn't thankfully) and can cause numbness/pins & needles/'dead' arm feeling/weakened grip. In most cases it clears up a week or two after birth however my mad as a brush mw started telling me how she was still bothered by it 4 years after being pregnant (helpful - NOT!).
