Our shiny new thread!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Heartmum2Jamie · 04/06/2008 10:14

I honestly haven't a clue how to find the facebook group and don't know chocorange old screenname.

I had another baby dream last night, this one was more weird, lol! Last time, baby girl was about 7 months, this time, baby girl was newborn and I had a lactation consultant living with me, even sleeping in the same bed and wouldn't allow me to do anything for the baby. I kept trying to tell her that I breastfeed my youngest child for 3 years and think I know what to do, but she insisted on grabbing my boob and shoving it in babys mouth, t'was very annoying!

Heartmum, email Bubbaz on the email address a little further down in the thread. She will then email you. that's how I have done it, although she may have taken one look at my picture and thought ER NO... hee hee.

Heartmum2Jamie · 04/06/2008 11:10

Thanks Pinkali, have sent an email to Bubbaz. My boys are my profile pic, lol! Will be better for sharing pics ect.

Bubbaz, I am sending you an email now!

Zonedout and Tostaky, I had a look at the Active Birth Centre and think I might go there for yoga. They are in Archway I think. They seem to do antenatal classes too which I have seen recommended on other threads so if you can't get onto NCT ones this may be an option. I'm signed up for an NCT intensive course in Islington in October but not sure if there will be spaces left on this.

thomasina1 · 04/06/2008 12:04

Oh yes, and we will be finding out the sex. 4 weeks tomorrow!

Oblomov · 04/06/2008 13:38

We are, sorry no, I am desperate to find out sex/flavour of baby, in 4 weeks time. I will tell you guys, but not anyone else, I don't think. Although with ds we did tell everyone that it was a boy.
ChocOrange, I keep forgetting who you are - I had to search to remind myself that you were Daniya.
I have lost my Facebook log in details, so can't join group. But to be honest, I am not that impressed with Facebook, I am afraid.
MerryMarigold, god I love Owen Meany. I have this mental image of this small, odd looking little lad, and that makes me really happy. I love the CAPITALS aswell, and his divine conception. I like it when in a book or a film, I can not guess what is going on. Then I get to the end and I think, " wow, that was REALLY clever", and then I think, that book/film was really good.
That is what happened to me with Owen Meany. I never 'got', the basketball jump thing. Then at the end it all came together and I was really impressed.
In the film the Usual Suspects, I couldn't work out who Keyser Soze was.
Or Fracture, where you know that Anthony Hopkins chararcter has killed his wife, but I couldn't work out how.
I like films and books that keep me guessing and I get a revelation at the end.
Lackadaisy, I like Cider house and Garp too.
Doctorswife , I can appreciate that it does not appeal to everyone. I have VERY diverse tastes in books and films and there doesn't seem to be much logic as to why I like something and not others.

thomasina1 · 04/06/2008 14:31

OK, I couldn't find the email address so I have sent chocorange a facebook message - at least I hope it's her!

Tinkerisdead · 04/06/2008 14:42

okay i may revisit owen meany now, agree its funny but the religious stuff kept clouding it for me i think. im not finding out what flavour mine is so i'll enjoy everyone elses revelations instead

bubbaz · 04/06/2008 15:37

Pinkali I have invited you to join the group - You did find me!!
I have sent you a friend request heartmum and will invite you once it is accepted.
Dozy LOL re me being a techno wizz - I'm sure the IT dept at work would have something to say about that!!

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 15:48

pinkali....will we spot you a mile off because you are um.....PINK?

not sure about finding out the sex...as we have one of each already, we aren't fussy either way, although it would be better for room sharing if it was another girl as I can see that the novelty of sharing with his 6.5 years younger brother will soon wear off.

I bought a new laptop today...talk about an impulse buy, but I was fed up with my ancient crappy old one. I got paid a lot more sick pay last month than I was expecting, so I thought (in true woman's logic stylee ) that it is free money, so why not. Of course a P&T sport would be more useful in the long run, but hey ho, my internetting will be much more productive.....if I can get the hang of the new keyboard. The cursor keeps jumping about all over the place (I'm obviously touching something I shouldn't) and I find I'm typing in the middle of a word ten lines up. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Pinkali37 · 04/06/2008 15:53

Hee hee, no the pink colour has calmed down somewhat, it's probably more to do with the stupid grin I have on my face!! It is so weird seeing peoples faces after having been speaking with them on here. I often change my picture so it will keep you on your toes.

Tinkerisdead · 04/06/2008 16:13

lackadaisy my DH gave me new laptop and im having the same problem! the thing also sent an email on its own as i was still typing it!???

juanitad · 04/06/2008 17:42

Hi all,

Had another MW appt today, was lovely to hear heartbeat again. I could just listen to it all day!! All seems fine re: bloods etc. so that's good. Re: finding out the sex, we won't be finding out - would like a surprise as it's our first. I have a feeling it's a boy, and a lot of people are telling me that I am getting a boy shape. I guess I'd better add that to the predictions thread!!

How is everyone else today?

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 17:59

I did the wedding ring thing when I was pregnant with DS, and it always said a boy! We would start swinging it back and forwards, it would slow down to a stop, than atart swingging from side to side....very eerie, and absolutely correct. I had a real inkling early on with both DS and DD which sex they would be, but I'm not sure at all with this one. I had thought girl early on, but now am not so sure.

I'm feeling awful this afternoon . I think it might be dehydration, but I feel very woozy and fuzzy and am very irritable. It feels a bit like my period is about to start as well

cricri · 04/06/2008 18:22

Evening all,
I also had a MW appt this pm and it was great to hear the hb again. 150 bpm apparently - does this mean it's a girl?! I remember some discussion a few days ago about heart rate and can't remember the figures now. Anyway, iron levels are very good so MW simply said tiredness was due to the pregnancy and I should just rest when necessary (ha!) As for the feeling faint when coaching, she said to sit down whenever possible. I was also tested for Group B strep a couple of weeks ago and the result has come back negative so that's a relief. Perhaps I can consider a home birth now - the doula was very encouraging and it got me thinking... Doctorswife am I right in thinking you're having a home birth too and it's your first? Any others planning or had a home birth with their first DC?
Daisy Hope you feel better soon. My MW did tell me to make sure I was drinking lots so perhaps it is just dehydration.
Twinkling Hope your pain has gone away. I had a pulling pain on the LH side of my tummy earlier today and was going to ask the MW about it but it went again. Perhaps I pulled something in the gym this morning.
Hope everybody else is OK.

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 19:31

I've now invited everyone in the FB group to be my friends, but think I might have guessed wrongly a few MN names!

strangely if you look at group members in the 08 group, it says I haven't replied as I'm not a member of facebook

lackaDAISYcal · 04/06/2008 19:35

hi cricri...glad you heard the HB again. you must be feeling so much more relaxed about things now, after all the worry of the early days

I've drunk buckets of water and had something to eat and feel much better...am milking it for all I can with DH though

take things easy at the gym...and listen to your body. It's probably round ligament pain.

Am off to add my bump to my profile; DS took a photo of it last night for me

Yorky · 04/06/2008 19:37

cricri I had a wonderful HB with DS, can't recommend it enough, no drugs - just tens and pool for delivery. I think thats why I was so upset about gbs, I just wanted it all to be the same again.
lacksdaisy - my friend told me that the wedding ring thing will tell how many kids you'll have if you give it long enough, it should swing one way, then stop and start swinging again on its own. Don't think I believe any of it but guessing is fun! I even found a website full of old wives tales which said that you could tell girl/boy by sweet/savoury cravings which I'd never heard before! Thanks for calling me slim the other day - jeans and not clingy clothes like sweatshirts can be very forgiving!
Feeling very smug atm as I have just got 2 kids to sleep by myself without drowning or dropping wither of them! DS is 16months and his friend is 11months. How do you bath twins if DH is working late?

MerryMarigold · 04/06/2008 20:19

cricri - my friend has had 2 homebirths, the first was her first baby too. she had a wonderful experience, much, much better than mine, and i was wholly jealous. the second baby was 10lbs and she pushed her out with gas and air, gave birth in water, no tears, nothing.

ChocOrange05 · 04/06/2008 21:21

Golly gosh - I go away for a day and I can barely keep up with you all.

So - here's what I can manage:

Juanitad what do you mean a "boy shape"?? For some bizarre reason right since day 1 I thought it was a boy - the chinese calendar said so and the wedding ring test but I am curious to know what shape you mean!

Juanitad and Thomasina I have invited you to the facebook group.

Lackadaisycal I have accepted you as a friend but you were already in the group! Oh and your bump is so neat!!!

Thats about all I can manage - I'm a bit today as I was hoping to feel some movement after the was it wasn't it movement yesterday but obviously it wasn't so I am still waiting and hoping!!

Night all - I am off to bed as I have a long day tomorrow, need to get to the office for 7.30am and then have a client dinner. I am yawning at the prospect already!!

cricri · 04/06/2008 21:26

Thanks for your positive replies concerning homebirths. It's definitely something I'm considering now and it seems that almost everybody who has a homebirth is really pleased with the experience. Chatting to the doula about it last week was v helpful and I started to think seriously about the possibility as a result.
Yorky I understand why you're so upset about the GBS diagnosis. Are they going to test you again? I think I read somewhere that a swab towards the end of the pregancy is the most accurate and when I discussed it with the doula she said you might test positive one day and then not the next. Fingers crossed for you.
Daisy Love the bump picture - I'm still not brave enough to put mine on my profile . You're right - I do feel much more positive now and the worry of the early days is almost gone. Just the 20-week scan to go and then I can relax properly

Yorky · 04/06/2008 22:25

Choc - I think if its all in front and neat its a boy, but if its more all round you then its a girl? Not sure but my friend at work was convinced I had a boy bump and she was right.

cricri - I also know a couple of people who have tried for homebirths and ended up transferring to the hospital so i would look at things like how far away you are in rush hour traffic etc. Neither of them regretted trying for a HB and say they'd have another go if they had another child.
I think the main positives are being in your own space, knowing where things are, having a choice of distractions, being more comfy wearing whatever or less! One of my concerns was not knowing what CDs to pack in my hospital bag - lively energising ones or quieter relaxing ones!

Night all

vbab78 · 04/06/2008 22:28

Hello Ladies. Sorry I've not been on since joining a couple of days ago. Already feel out of touch. Unfortunately my son (2 this month) was very ill, sick and lifeless, so ended up being taken to hospital.

He hasn't been that poorly since he was a baby and it all came on very quickly. On top of that my husband ended up being the 1 caring for DS and taking DS to hospital because I had to work. I cried all the way to work and a lot at my desk too. Can't wait to finish work even though money will beyond bad when I do.

Luckily the hospital said it may be a bad stomach bug but as long as we kept an eye on DS and tried to get water into him he should be ok. He seems to be nearly better a day on with the exception that he isn't eating a great deal which trust me is weird for him.

I will try my best to get on everyday just to keep up with you ladies and join in.

vbab78 · 04/06/2008 22:35

On the subject of finding out the sex of baby I have been tempted this time around but we have decided to leave it a surprise. But also because we know lots of people who have been told incorrectly! So imagine having a boy when the bedroom has been decorated pink and all clothes that have been bought by family and friends have been washed so cannot be returned. ARRRR.

Also mentioned was trouble with appointments. I had trouble with my first scan in that the woman on the phone was so unhelpful and nasty that it took a couple of weeks to sort my appointment which ended up a couple of weeks later than it should have been. At a time when my stress levels were sky high because I just wanted to cry because after my miscarriage at x-mas I just wanted to see baby to make the whole thing real in my head if that makes any sense and the woman could not have been worse. She should not really have a job dealing with people especially people that could have been through all sorts of heart break.

Yorky · 05/06/2008 08:16

vbab glad DS seems to be improving, my DS had that horrible sickness bug just before Christmas and it was so scary, he was 11months at the time and we had moved the day before! At least kids seem to bounce back fairly quickly.
Sorry you had such a trauma wiht your scan - you wonder about people in these jobs sometimes
