Our shiny new thread!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MerryMarigold · 03/06/2008 17:57

Just a quick question: How many of you will try and find out the sex at the 20wks scan...and will you be telling?

I will try and find out (didn't with my first, but definitely this time) and I don't mind revealing all!

Flaneuse · 03/06/2008 17:57

SoExcited - yes, I am in Cambridge! I hadn't noticed there was another Cambridge person here - excellent! Aren't you pleased that so many of the shops have started selling maternity ranges this year?!

I'm feeling big too, and have a definite bump. Two people at work 'talked to my tummy' last week, rather than looking at my face, which was disconcerting! DH said last night as I was getting changed for bed, "God, you really are pregnant, aren't you?!"!! Aren't men slow on the uptake??

SoExcited · 03/06/2008 18:23

My DH works at Addenbrookes Forvie site, so I'm assuming you aren't too far away? Only guessing?!

I have to admit I've found Cambridge pretty rubbish for clothes - Gap has been fab, as they do a lot at sale price. I've had two pairs of trousers for £5 reduced from £40, but haven't been successful anywhere else in town. Mamas & Papas do fab tops by the way (but not local!)

SoExcited · 03/06/2008 18:32

Forgot to mention, Serendippity is also Cambridge, so maybe we'll arrange a meet up. She is Cherry Hinton - what part of Cambridge are you?

cricri · 03/06/2008 18:50

Hi ladies,
Welcome to all the newbies, this is a great thread
Thanks for setting up the FB group Bubbaz, it's great as we can now see what we all look like! Hope a few more people will join too
MM I would like to find out the sex at my 20 week scan but our US unit has a policy of not telling I'm thinking of having a 4-D scan a bit later and finding out that way.

lackaDAISYcal · 03/06/2008 19:11

I think I've found chocorange, dozy and bubbaz on FB!

dozy, is your middle initial C? and are you on chocoranges friends list? likewise bubbaz, are you there too? I'm sending you a friend request so you can add me to the group. I'm hoping that I've got you right or some poor woman with your name is going to be very puzzled indeed by the cryptic message

chocolategal · 03/06/2008 19:21

bubbaz think ive found you and requested you on FB

MM i will def ask what sex and will prob tell people,i wont be able to keep it a secret anyway!!

ChocOrange05 · 03/06/2008 19:24

I am the only one of me and my name on facebook and my profile pic is of me looking v dizzy as I was spinning on teacups. Ohh, how cryptic

Merry DH and I have decided to opt for the surprise version of baby so we won't be finding out at 20wk scan. Is anyone else going for this option as I haven't heard it from anyone else yet??

coolkat · 03/06/2008 19:26

Oh wish I was on face book although I struggle to follow on here!!

1st day back at work today and shattered! keep thinking only 6/7 weeks until half term!

Well was feeling quite pleased as although before I had a bump but my weight had not increased I have just stepped on the scales an have put on 1/2 stone , I mean I know I have a bump none of my clothes fit and my boobs need a 2 man tent to support them but for some strange reason I felt really deflated

Got my M/W appointment on friday for blood test results as I am nervous about Spina Bifida, daft I know but in early pregnancy I was quite poorly with a virus for about 3 weeks and I keep thining about not eating and think I lapsed on the folic acid.

Anyway sorry for miserable post. X

lackaDAISYcal · 03/06/2008 19:54

coolkat, I'm sure all is well re spina bifida. I am rubbish at taking tablets, and my coeliac disease means I have vitamin malabsorption problems, so I asked the doctor about it as I was worried too. He said that you would have to be very malnourished for a prolonged period before any problems arose, so I'm more reassured about it now

chocorange, I figured that was you. How nice to be the only one of "you" on FB...there are thousands of "me"

tostaky · 03/06/2008 20:10

Hi everybody! Thanks for your warm welcome!! i can understand why it si so hard to keep up with that forum!!

Zonedout and Thomasina1 - hi there, weel ive spent most of my working day looking and comparing yoga classes for pregnancy...
I'm in turnpike lane and i think i might try the ones at :
the hidden space (turnpike), yoga junction (finsbury pk), the haelen centre (crouch end), jessica something at stoke newington and birthwise at crouch end - see which one i feel "better" with and go from there...!
Have you managed to book NCT classes? the haringey ones are fully booked for november babies...

zonedout · 03/06/2008 20:55

tostaky, i think that jessica somebody in stoke newington rings a bell and if it is who i think it is she is meant to be fab... hmm, may be talking rubbish though. i am near crouch end but am more familiar with the fab classes at the active birth centre (i think its n19)

as for nct, this will be my second dc and as i did nct with my first i won't be doing it again. if you can't get onto an nct class (and i do remember having to book ridiculously early)then i think most of the hospitals do quite good ante-natal classes. for me it was more a way to meet a few local mums due at the same time for some essential mutual support in the early days after the birth.

chocorange, your name is giving me serious cravings (more pleasant at least than the crazy rice and cheese thing going on with these girls in the early days...)

lackaDAISYcal · 03/06/2008 20:58

I'm confused....

dozy, I got your group invitation by e-mail, but when I click on the link, it takes me to my home page and there is no mention of said group invitaion there. Is it soooo secret that even the invitees can't find it

twinklingfairy · 03/06/2008 21:01

This thread is just moving too fast for me at the moment

I won't be finding out the sex either chocorange. Mainly cos they won't tell us here either but mostly cos I don't want to know.
My brother just found out that they are having a girl though. I would rather not have known that either but didn't want to spoil his happiness by saying not to tell me.

I have a pain in my tummy just to the left of my belly button. It hurts when I get up or DD presses it, even gently.
Feeling a bit worried about it and am going to the doc on Thursday. By which point it will have stopped hurting, it's always the way isn't it

Tinkerisdead · 03/06/2008 21:08

hi everyone, my lovely DH gave me a new laptop so been spending all my time changing email address etc to married name etc.

had muidwife yesterday and she came to take blood for my double test, couldnt get a heartbeat as my placenta is across the front so all we got was whoosh whoosh whoosh. did feel butterflies this evening though when i leant over my dh cant wait for fulkl on movements.

welcome back off hols yorky and welcome to all the newbies. merry and oblomov i hated haed hated a prayer for owen meany and wondered why you liked it? not knocking your choice as i read it as in bbc top 100 books but i felt like i was missing something?

i'm gonna treat myself to a day of mumsnetting tomorrow as had a hectic week already. so i'll be back tomorrow

lackaDAISYcal · 03/06/2008 21:43

Hi twinkling and DW

sorry you are feeling pooey twinkling and I hope all is OK. look after yourself till you see the doc.....{{{hugs}}}

I read Owen Meaney years ago, but was a bit indifferent to it. It didn't turn out to be the book it promised it would be at the beginning iyswim. I love "Garp" though and "Widow"

Was pointed in the direction of this thread. BNIP maternity clothes....free for postage, but too small for me!

juanitad · 03/06/2008 22:00

couldn't remember what everyone said about how to join facebook group, so thought I would try to figure it out! Chocorange, think I have found you by searchins using your old mumsnet name!! Have sent you (at least I hope it was you, definitely looked like you were on some teacups!) a message, so if you get it, will you be able to add me/invite me to the group? Am interested to see what everyone looks like!!

MerryMarigold · 03/06/2008 22:01

Drswife - first read 'Owen' when I was 19. I loved it, laughed all the way through, cried in places and as I was studying the time period in history, I understood all the Vietnam references. I loved the way Owen speaks in CAPITAL LETTERS! There's just so much to it, that every time I read it, I enjoy it and see other things as my personal life situation changes. But mostly I love it cos it's funny!

Yorky · 04/06/2008 00:25

HI all, cannot believe i am up so ;ate, I will be in bits tomorrow but been out for nice but overpriced meal then spoke to DH who is away this week (and the next 2, but back for weekeknds) and saw how much talking you'd all done today and didn't dare leave it any longer!
I don't think I want to find out the sex - we had no choice last time so were happy to have a surprise. My brother know what he and his wife are having though and I can understand why SIL wanted to know so that she could talk to him not it.
I did AN yoga and loved it, but haven't even been able to find a yoga class since we moved here
Good luck to those seeing Drs in the near future
Night all!

Dozymare · 04/06/2008 07:27

Good Morning All!!

So lovely to see some of you on facebook, it really is nice to put faces to names.....For those of you struggling to find us (yes we are so secret!) perhaps the best way is to look up Chocorange by her original name if she is the only one on there!!!! That way you can befriend her and she can invite you - otherwise I am stuck as to how it all works!!!!

BOOKCLUB Ladies, it is near enough the 15th so we should start to think about changing books - can anyone find tghe original thread - should I email rather than MN as obviously not everyone is in the club (so to speak!!)

I to am having problems remembering now who said what and to whom......

As for finding out the sex, we definately will be but not telling anyone else (although will let you lovely ladies know)

Newbies we have a predictions thread also for a little bit of fun, fill it in!!

tostaky · 04/06/2008 08:00

Is it possible to feel its heart with your hand? Last night i was on the sofa stroking my belly and on the right handside, below the belly-b, i could feel something very similar to a fast hb (different to mine). Bf felt the same way too and said that there was def something in there.
Then again how could i feel it, im sure the gheart is about 0.5 cm at this stage (if not smaller)... or could it be the placenta or something?
I've tried again this morning but can't feel anything...

bubbaz · 04/06/2008 08:00

Morning All, Lackadaisy I got your friend request and have sent you another invite to the FB group - You too Chocolategal. It is slowly growing.(Along with our waistlines!!)
Sory to everyone who is feeling poorly, hope it gets better soon x
We won't be finding out the sex either DH doesn't want to know at all and I'm not to fussed either way although I have now changed my mind and think its another boy as it moves at the same times DS did!!

Dozymare · 04/06/2008 08:34

Bubbaz you are our little groups very own IT expert! You always know how to solve the techie questions, find threads and start new ones!!! Good on you!!!

It's a lovely day today (although not ventured outside yet as probably freezing cold!)

I can't believe we are coming up to the half way stage....it is going very quickly now!!

Pinkali37 · 04/06/2008 09:20

I have sent you a friend request bubbaz (i think it is you) for FB. I too can't wait to see what everyone looks like. You will spot me a mile off... hee hee. x

Pinkali37 · 04/06/2008 10:11

P.s. we finding out the flavour of the baby, we are umming and arring about it. Because my sister has found out what hers is I think it might be quite nice to wait and keep and everyone guessing. We did think about finding out and not telling anyone but I know that if it was a boy (and because NO ONE in my family seems able to produce a boy, i wouldn't be able to hold it in).
