Our shiny new thread!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 16:42

Lola we have our 20 week scan on the same day! My DH and I have decided not to find out though, DH wants to but I want a surprise so he's going along with me - I am curious though but I like guessing too. We've been buying lots of white, cream and yellow things!

I feel a bit in limbo with the appointments at the moment - my last midwife appointment was 2 weeks ago and my scan is in 2 weeks so getting anxious for the next one - we do have a doppler at home so we listen to the heartbeat every week or so to keep an eye on the bump!

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 16:46

Dozy of course you should!

dozymare · 29/05/2008 17:04

thomasina1 · 29/05/2008 17:32

I've got my 20 wk scan 5 weeks today, can't wait. We are going to find out the sex but I'm thinking it's a boy... just because the thought of a boy scares me!

Are people buying baby things already then? In that case that gives me an excuse to!! I've talked DH into a trip to John Lewis on Saturday to look at prams - he only agreed cos he wants a bugaboo! Am thinking of setting up a gift list there for any friends/relatives who want some guidance!

Heartmum2Jamie · 29/05/2008 17:35

Lola & ChocOrange, I also have my 20 week scan on the same day. We do plan on fiding out even though I wanted a suprise, the boys in my life, including hubby, want to know and to be honest, I will end up consoling one of the boys, lol! Baby will have the tiebreaker vote as DS2 & I think boy and DH & DS! think girl

Oh and for anyone who isn't taking pics I didn't take many in my first pregnancy and totally regret it now. With ds2 I took them 4 weeksly to start and then 2 weekly at the end, this time around I am doing them weekly for now and can always just delete them if there is no difference to look at.

Thomasina we've bought loads - basically because the pregnancy wasn't planned DH and I decided to try and get as many bargains as possible by buying on ebay and gumtree and in sales so we've started already.

We've bought a cot, a moses basket and I have just gone a little crazy bidding on clothes on ebay . We are also going to see someone who has a nursing chair to sell this weekend.

How are you doing the gift list thing - have people asked you for it, I was thinking its a good idea but I feel a bit cheeky saying here you go, please buy...?

thomasina1 · 29/05/2008 17:50

ChocOrange (love the new name by the way!), I'm thinking of using the list just for our parents and siblings and only then if they ask what we would like. I'm thinking it will also be a sort of shopping list for me too. I'm mainly going to use it for larger things that people have offered to buy already - e.g. moses basket, cot, etc. because for these items people want to know exactly what we want anyway. However that does assume that we are able to find the ones we want in John Lewis!

I agree it could look a bit cheeky, but i'm not planning to give out the cards or anything, I'll just mention it to anyone who asks us what we'd like. It is v easy for them to do a search online for our list if they want to. Check out www.johnlewisnurserylist.com.

ChocOrange05 · 29/05/2008 18:14

Thomasina your plan sounds good - we had our wedding gift list at John Lewis and it was great - especially when they all arrived

twinkle183 · 29/05/2008 20:29

PInkyminkyohnooo · 29/05/2008 20:36

Hello DM

Nice to meet you, Twinkle, and congratulations.

twinkle183 · 29/05/2008 20:39

Thanks PInkyminkyohnooo - any ideas as to how to get rid of my migranes and the doctors won't give me anything?

PInkyminkyohnooo · 29/05/2008 20:43

I have taken the migraleve pink when really bad. I think you are allowed paracetamol and cocodamol- some people don't recommend anything until the placenta is fully established (ie after 12 weeks). I suggest you ring NHS direct and ask if you can take the pink. They are better than nothing- you won't get any of the prescription remedies, I don't think.

Poor you- migraine sucks.

SHOCK NEWS!

Short version: I am expecting twins not triplets

Long version
I went for a consultant appointment and a scan yesterday. The operator said she was sure it was twins, but after phoning the original sonographer (who is quite senior and who told her where to look), she finally found the third baby. Phew! But just to be on the safe side, she asked me to come into the main ultrasound department today rather than the antentatal clinic. There, she asked 2 more senior colleagues to check me out on a better machine. They both said it is twins, there is no third baby...

It's quite odd. I'd got my head around 3, and was so excited. In some ways I am relieved, much less high risk, much easier afterwards, and it is not like I have actually had a baby die on me in the womb. But there is still a sense of loss. Somewhere I am still half expecting to go in for 20 week scan and they find a third baby again!

So my prediction of twins was correct all along! Sorry for long post.

Hope all is well with everyone. Haven't had a chance to read up on the posts, just wanted to let you all know.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 29/05/2008 20:52

How strange for you. I can imagine it has come as a bit of a shock. What was the 'third baby', then? Or is one of twins playing that old school photo trick?

lackaDAISYcal · 29/05/2008 20:55

hi twinkle183...I remember you from the April thread. I was on June 07 (was daisybump back then) and you ladies set the standard for shocking thread titles that got you into grief.....we June lot then took over the mantle . Was Creena an April 07 too...or was it May?

MerryM...what a roller coaster . Are they absolutely sure there are only two of them? and if so, where were the first two sonographers getting No3 from . I think I'd be asking for another opinion, and then another and another. I hope you hadn't started buying things in 3s already

MerryMarigold · 29/05/2008 20:56

'Third baby' was apparently one of the twins from a different angle!

They are non identical twins with their own placentas, so that's good. Much less high risk.

Have you heard of this happening to anyone else? Phantom babies!

lackaDAISYcal · 29/05/2008 20:56

lol at the school photo trick pinky

twinkle1983....I was taking co-codamol recently for whiplash. The GP didn't want to prescribe it, but the EPU said it was fine, so I used up some I had left over from my section last year and then bought the strongest I could over the counter.

twinkle183 · 29/05/2008 21:01

Thanks PInkyminkyohnooo I appreciate the advice!! Will try that, I hate migraines I don't usually suffer but at the moment I really am... its weird!! I have had the same migraine for the last four days and I think work are starting to get annoyed!!

MerryMarigold bless sounds like you've been on a bit of a roller coaster ride today really, can't blame you that you would be concerned that they will find a third on your 20 wk scan!!! Just don't run out and buy any tandemn pushchairs just incase one is hiding behind the other... sonographers can be wrong - happened to friend of mine! She was told to begin with that there was three and then a senior member was admanent that there was only twins - so she spend a fortune on everything on to give birth to triplets!!! she was to say the least!!! But also delighted, I understand the feeling of loss though... hope your alright.

twinkle183 · 29/05/2008 21:02

Thanks lackaDAISYcal will try it - anything to get rid of this thumping head - it doesn't help have two children under 5 aswell to look after, as dh is away at the mo but thanks for the advice, appreciated!!!

lackaDAISYcal · 29/05/2008 21:11

phew MerryM....just concerned about you giving birth and them discovering then that there was another one still in there after you'd delivered the twins. Still in awe of twins though! My SIL had non identical twin boys last August, both just over 6lbs at 39 weeks and delivered naturally!

Were you able to find out the sex, or is it still a bit early to tell?

PInkyminkyohnooo · 29/05/2008 21:11

I agree, I'd be tempted to reserve judgment until some later scans,MM, but maybe it would be better emotionally if you 'let go' of number 3?

Daisy - I thought you'd taken cocodamol too. Migraleve pink is basically paracetamol and cocodamol, so I'd guess ok.

Twinkle I think after 4 days it's not going away by itself and you need to knock it on the head (groan) with something.

MerryMarigold · 29/05/2008 21:15

No sex finding. Could probably tell, but they were too concerned with counting babies than zooming in on genitals!

Yeah, you just never know But they seemed really certain, and surely they would not play around with me like that and reverse the original report if they weren't 100% sure. And this was 3 opinions, not 1, like the first time.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 29/05/2008 21:23

Have to say, two growing babies with their own placentas is really good news!
It's clearly not a totally exact science at this stage, as both you and Twinking's experiences testify.
