I wonder how quickly we'll get through this thread?!?!?!?!

Neenz, reallu sounds like motherhood suits you perfectly and your twins are little angels! I hope we all have the same sort of experience as you.

It sounds as if everyone needs a hug right now, the hot weather really doesn't help really glad to hear it will be back to normal on thursday!

thegreenfairy · 12/05/2008 14:20

Afternoon all

Had my follow up consultant appt this morning thanks to my bicornuate uterus, although it seemed a bit pointless as I already knew baby wasn't breech (touch wood). Hiccups in my groin tend to give it away (which made consultant laugh when I said so!)

I said I was planning a home birth as long s baba wasn't breech and, although she did a tiny double take she seemed positive and noted I'd had a pretty much trouble free pregnancy.

She has written my dates wrong in my notes - as has my midwife at my last two appointments. Have decided to alter it, as otherwise it could be used as a reason to bring me into hospital for being pm when I'm not!

She also said I should come back in 'when I'm 40 weeks in case I don't go into labour'! Err, I think I can wait a little bit past my due date?! It's exactly this attitude which puts me off a hospital birth. Grrr. So I told the receptionist to make the appointment for a few days after. They are going to send me an appointment for 40+ 5 which is bearable I suppose.

Apart from that, doc said I did have carpal tunnel syndrome. Don't know if anyone else is suffering (pins and needles in fingers, numbe hands) but I've found resting my wrist on an icepack helps to stop it (presumably by reducing the inflamation of the carpal tunnel?)

Have been loving the hot weather and it hasn't really been bothering me, although am dreading eletricity bill due to constant fan use at night!

Watched The Business of Being Born this morning - totally excellent and made me even more determined to try for home birth.

Apart from that all is well here. Enjoying the time off and trying not to do too much (easier said than done)

HJay · 12/05/2008 14:40

thegreenfairy - I'm glad your appt went well and your pregnancy is going well too! I wanted a home birth, but I'm not going to have one, after thinking about it I'd rather be in the hospital for my first time, and the nurses are nice where I am so I feel comfortable. If I have another baby though I want a home birth unless there are problems.

Had my scan today and my placenta has moved up so I won't be needing a section for that! Yay! I also got to see my LO's little face again and he's still gorgeous. The tech made me cry because she went into the 3D scan to show me his face, it was unexpected and so wonderful to see him like that! She said it's not part of the scan and she shouldn't really be doing it but she printed off a picture for us anyway, which was so nice of her!

He's measuring a week big still, but they say they just class it as 'big baby' or 'small baby' at this point in pregnancy and don't change the dates. So even though I'm 34.6 weeks his measurements say he's 36.2 weeks in size, except his head which says 37.6! But all in all he's perfectly healthy and right between average size and big. They said he would weigh around 6lbs 2ounces if he was born now.

Going to be setting up his little bed and washing out his clothes a bit later today, despite being knackered!
Upsidedowncake · 12/05/2008 14:51

Lurking a but today as have loads of work to do, but am loving all the stories.

Makecakes, good luck

All those feeling emotional - sorry that you're having tough times

Neenz, you amazing woman!

ErnestTheBavarian · 12/05/2008 15:25

It was Mother's Day here yesterday, in Austria too? If so, Happy Mothers' day Deb.

Neenz, just seen your news

congratulations and well done Aw the picture is really cute - you must be delighted (understatement)

Good luck to all others starting their labours.

I thought things were moving yesterday, I really had pains, and was sure things were going on that shouldn't've been, but luckily, am still intact. Have doctor's appointment on Thiursday, so hopefully he'll be able to reassure me, and don't get (hopefully) booked into hospital till Friday. Made dh drive to it today, as seems a bit mad to be 4 weeks (hopefully) off giving birth, and not knowing where the hospital is, or how to get there.

whinegums · 12/05/2008 15:52

Afternoon all. Just in from antenatal class - hospital tour is next week, and that's the last one.

TGF - good luck with home birth - I really hope it all goes to plan for you. I desperately want to try for a water birth, but the hospital only has one birth pool - so fingers crossed it's available when it's time. No way I could have a home water birth unfortunately - we're three floors up, and I don't think our floor/downstairs' ceilings could cope! Can you imagine if I ended up in my neighbour's living room in the middle of Coronation St....

Ernest, I can't remember what happened with you at the hospital, have you got yourself booked into one now?

Neenz, I'm blown away by how you're coping! I hope this bodes well for the rest of us!

Rolf · 12/05/2008 15:58

I had a lovely reflexology treatment this morning, which was very relaxing. And when I saw the midwife this afternoon the baby had turned to head down . I'm so pleased. Her bum is to the side so she's curled up like a little mouse, but hopefully now she's head down she'll stay that way.

I am finally getting frustrated that DH has still not collected/found my maternity clothes from storage. I have loads of summer tops which would be SO much more comfortable than my thick tunic tops . I think it would be worth braving a trip into town to get a few cheap cotton tops for this lovely weather.

Hope everyone's feeling ok today.

bitofadramaqueen · 12/05/2008 16:06

Rolf LOL that your maternity clothes are STILL in storage. Can you frog march him to your loft later?

Pain permitting I'm heading off to town Wednesday for a few summer tops. I was hoping not to buy much more in the way of maternity clothes but I dont have too much lightweight stuff that actually fits now and I've still got 6 weeks to go after all .

Been watching a (not very good) movie on Sky box office - it kept cutting sound/picture and now box is frozen altogether. Grrrrr. They'll be gettting a call demanding a refund.

OP posts:
whinegums · 12/05/2008 16:14

Rolf - hide his clothes til he gets yours out!

DQ - I got lightweight smocky tops in H&M - they were reduced to a fiver! Also, Primark had sundresses with elasticated top half bit for pennies, good by themselves, over trousers, or pulled down as a skirt. I know what you mean about not wanting to spend cash on more stuff when there's just a few weeks left, but I don't mind when it's at the cheaper end.

Take out all of your frustrations on Sky!!!

ErnestTheBavarian · 12/05/2008 16:18

not booked into hospital yet. have chosen 1 and have an appointment on Friday, when I hope all arrangements will be made, as I'll only be 3 weeks prior to birth then

Really want to book private room if possible, but a bit put off by huge cost, but this will be may last time, and would like to enjoy a few days of peace and quiet, and also enjoy my boys' visits without worrying about other people.

What are other people doing?

LauraT · 12/05/2008 16:24

Am at the mercy of the NHS Ernest, so you get a single room if there's one available! Saying that, they do normally try to put you separately if you're a doctor, in case a patient of yours appears next to you!

whinegums · 12/05/2008 16:29

Laura, do you reckon if I change my notes to say Dr Whinegums I'll get a private room???

Rolf · 12/05/2008 16:29

Ernest - I'd pay pretty much anything for a private room! If everything is straightforward and I'm in the MLU, the rooms there are all private and en-suite. If I'm in the beastly high dependancy ward it's an opne ward with a few side rooms that are allocated according to clinical need (ie lots and lots of crying).

DQ - the stuff is in 1 of 3 huge shipping containers on an industrial estate a few miles away. I don't even know which containers are ours - it's very un-frilly with mud tracks and fierce dogs, and DH set it all up when we moved here a few years ago. Apparently the containers are now all in utter chaos (which doesn't surprise me) and he avoids going there. He's done quite well to find the baby car seat and cot - we just need the pushchair now. I must say I have been tempted to hide all his clothes apart from 2 pairs of trousers and 3 tops and make him wear them for 6 months. But he doesn't have a lovely big bump to make up for it!

bitofadramaqueen · 12/05/2008 16:38

Crikey, what a nightmare Rolf. That would drive me nuts!!! Well, he should just fork out for some new stuff for you.

Whinegums - H&M is my first port of call on Wednesday. Not had a chance to go in for ages so hopefully they'll have some bargains. No primark in central Edinburgh unfortunately. I tried to have a look when I was in Glasgow the other week but it was Saturday lunchtime and I just couldn't cope!

Ernest - I too will be at the mercy of the NHS. They do have what they call LDRP rooms (no idea what that stands for) where they try and do the labour/delivery/post-natal stuff and discharge without you having to go on the ward so fingers crossed I'm in there. I'm absolutely desperate for a six hour discharge. When I was in hospital on Saturday night there were new mums and babies leaving when I did at 2am so no danger that they keep you in any longer than necessary!

OP posts:
goingfor3 · 12/05/2008 16:42

Ernest I had side rooms with both of the girls - having staff written in my notes was a great help! No such luck this time as I'm in a different hospital and I haven't worked for the NHS for 7 years. I'll just have to slum it on the main ward.

sophiewd · 12/05/2008 16:43

We are really lucky, if you are having a section in our hospital then you automatically get a private room, they also try and keep you in private rooms when having a normal birth for as long as physically possible, especially if new mum. No cost.

alipalli · 12/05/2008 16:44

Just had a lovely pregnant princess moment in Waitrose.

The old boy on checkout absolutely insisted that I couldn't possibly manage the box of beer, and came round to scan it and put it in my trolley. I said I was okay packing, but he stepped in after he clearly thought that I had put too much heavy stuff in one bag. So I ended up standing there like a lemon whilst he scanned and packed to his satisfaction. It was all I could do to stop him coming out to the car with me.

Being pregnant may have its irritations, but it can also show you how kind people are.

bitofadramaqueen · 12/05/2008 16:50

Aw, that's lovely alipalli.

Hope evryone's OK - no more babies then?

alipalli · 12/05/2008 17:12

Hey Debs - have a really nice well earned break. Can't remember if you ended up in Badgastein or Badhofgastein. Skied in Badhofgastein when I was a teenager - makes me wistful for lovely alpine scenery and hotels....next year
