I wonder how quickly we'll get through this thread?!?!?!?!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

So jealous of everyone hoping for early discharge - I'm really gutted that I'm not able to have one now. We have applied for a private room (which we will pay for) but I'm not sure if I'll get it as I might not be needy enough. There was nothing wrong with the ward room last time, I'm just a light sleeper and didn't sleep for more than 20 minutes all night for three nights - it wasn't a good start for parenting.

that being said, at least it will be over soon. I had false labour at work today which means my body is getting ready! I'm not necessarily thinking I'll be early, but my due date's only 3.5 weeks away so it'll be over soon enough... and I'm never doing this again!

xxgemmalou22xx · 12/05/2008 20:16

lorettahi had a hospital tour too it helped me to be more relaxed about giving birth and now i aint worried about it. Its very useful to see where you will be and i felt better seeing the delivery rooms looked more like bedrooms then wards i hope you enjoy your tour!

Lorettah · 12/05/2008 20:26

Cheers Gem - I really hope it reassures me, I've got a scan on Friday then back at the hospital on Saturday!

Getting very excited now although I'm a little dubious about the perenial massage... I bought the raspberry leaf tea & it tastes OK so I'm going to start drinking my 2-3 cups a day. I also bought some lavender & tea tree oil for after the birth - cost over £25 in Neals Yard!

Ive still to pack my hospital bag seems like everyone else has!

Rolf · 12/05/2008 20:59

Lorettah - I haven't packed my hospital bag either!

I've spent some of today washing baby clothes so feel as though I'm beginning to get organised. I'm just getting so excited but not translating much of it into action!

Can't remember if I've already posted this but when I was going through baby clothes yesterday, and setting aside all the boys' clothes to take to a charity shop, DH said wistfully that it would be nice after this baby to have a boy . Bit premature perhaps... Bloody nutter.

poppy34 · 12/05/2008 21:13

hi all -can't keep up . sorry to hear you've been emotional today gemma - I have just been full of righteous anger (or I think it is) ..just need to see if can still feel cross tomorrow and deal with the people I need to (long story).

rolf I'm not packed either as keep thinking got ages - have bought some pyjamas, maternity pants and a few other bits so in theory I could pack.. I just haven't chosen to. Admiring your restraint re dh.. I'd have cut his clothes up by now.

PearTart · 12/05/2008 21:29

Had to use soap and water to get rings off my finger tonight and feet are puffy. And sooooo tired

Gemma- I'm making a little wish that we both sleep better tonight. But if that fails (again) I'll log on. off to bed in a sec for a head start.

I've mostly got my hosp bag packed, and hidden it from DD1's interventions. Will just need to rem last minute stuff- mat notes, camera, phone, cash etc
Although I still don't know who'll look after DD while we're out. Hoping that desperate puffing-down-the-phone calls to mummy friends will suffice...

Rolf- I'd be fuming it my one life-saver summer skirt was in storage. I second hiding DH's stuff- you can always claim hormones made you do it. By the time he finds your stuff it'll be cold again! PS what are you doing about pram for 2 babes?

As far as hosp wards are concerned I'm not planning on staying in long- was in for 12 hours after birth last time and v glad to get home to big comfy bed. They were noisy, hot hours but with lots of tea and toast- that seemed to be the universal cure-all in my ward!!

I did have a great low-risk room to give birth in and would recommend that to low-risk mums to be. No hosp bed but a big squashy mattress and lots of big squashy things to lean on/ against/ moo against I did actually moo at one point!
So "Room 1" is permanently emblazoned in my memory as the room to go for (if MLBU is full).

PearTart · 12/05/2008 21:30

Ernest/ Deb- your hosp system sounds confusing!

Neenztwinz · 12/05/2008 21:31

And they say new mums are hormonal... I think my DH has got my baby blues! Bless him, he had to go to work this morning and is going in all day tomorrow (but is off for the rest of the week). But he really didn't want to leave us and has been a bit snappy tonight.

The day after I gave birth, he turned up at the hospital with £75-worth of gifts (champagne for the consultant, wine for the paediatricians, choclolates for the midwives - but not so much as a £3.99 bouquet of flowers from Tesco for me .
I didn't say anything at the time cos I really wasn't bothered and he waqs buzzing so much about the birth, but I have just made a joke about it and he has had a strop. He said 'you don't even like flowers - you say they are a waste of money'

Well that is true - the poor man can't do right for doing wrong

xxgemmalou22xx · 12/05/2008 21:32

Rolf · 12/05/2008 21:52

PearTart - still haven't done anything about a double buggy although I think I will need one. I'm sending out smoke signals locally in the hope that one turns up. It's not madly urgent as my in-laws will be here until the end of June so I have a bit of time to keep my head in the sand think about it

DH has just pointed out that generally I find about 2 pairs of trousers and 3 tops that I like and wear them to death - he does have a point .

xxgemmalou22xx · 12/05/2008 21:55

rolf i am doing the same thing but i pick whats more comfortable than anything and thats all that matters!

xxgemmalou22xx · 13/05/2008 05:03

peartart its 5am here and im awake again haha! i did sleep better though i fell asleep about 11pm and slept through until now with only one stop for the toilet haha! I feel good too for having some sleep! Im wide awake ready to start the day hope you slept!

PearTart · 13/05/2008 06:44

for better night's sleep! Ready to try to be nice mum today!

Although I did leap out of bed like a salmon swearing (shitshitshitshit) with calf cramps this am. Anyone else getting this?

Rolf- I'd interpret your DH's comments re clothes as an invitation to a shopping spree.
As for buggy- will prob get a Phil and Teds but no idea what delivery time to expect, although happy to do some carrying (of NB)

ErnestTheBavarian · 13/05/2008 07:22

Morning all. I was having panic attacks last night and had to get up till 2 am. So feel as rough as a badger's bottom this am.

Ds3 has woken up with a temerature, which reminds me I must find a children's doctor as a matter of urgency - as well as a vet. Our cat had a tick this weekend. I've never seen one before but it was quite high on the completely revolting stakes - blood and gubbins al over my new baby's bedroom floor. yukety yuk yuk. So anyway, in case I have to take her in, she's locked in and going mental, till I can ring vet for advice.

Re maternity wear, I am the most glamourous I've ever been (not too difficult a standard to beat, mind) as I have sil maternity clothes, as well as my old rags.

Did anyone see that programme last night about the teenage mums? I was agog at the (13 year old?) who had a home birth in a pool at home ... along with about 20 family members, including a 7 ish year old sibling/cousin playing gameboy! Anyone else inviting the entire street along? (Just about everyone was present at this girl's birth - except of course, the father by the loks of it)

sophiewd · 13/05/2008 07:43

Morning all - 2 more days of breakfasts to go and then a couple of mornings of and then people in everyday from Friday until end of May.

DD also of today with temp and cough, doesn't sound too good.

Ernest ticks aren't too bad if you can get them of before they burst.

PearTart · 13/05/2008 08:15

Oh Ernest- not a good morning for you, I hate the idea of ticks as one fell on me in Australia, lucky I saw it so quickly. Although I think they're different here. At least you can deal with things in the knowledge that you are looking great!

Hope the DC's feel better soon.

goingfor3 · 13/05/2008 08:17

Ernest, sorry so many things are going wrong. Hope your son gets better and you can sort your cat out.
I saw the programme too and was amazed at how well the girl coped with all of those people in and out, I really admired the midwfe too it must have been hard for her having so many watching. I like peace and quiet!

Feel really tired this morning, yesterday I was full of energy so I really made the most of it and paid for it by having loads of cramps/backache last night and not being able to sleep properly despite being exhausted. Today will be a quiet day, dd1's tv commercial should be starting today, I have no idea which channel but will watch ITV all day in hope of catching it (I just hope it will be used!)

ErnestTheBavarian · 13/05/2008 08:25

Ticks are def a different kettle of fish here than in UK - even the boys are immunised against as they can be very nasty - I think Deb got anti tick injection last week. I have to take the cat in at 4. It was borrowed right in her throat - I saw it, and went to get dh and tweezers, and in this couple of minutes she'd knocked the big bulbous grey, shiny blood-filled sack bit off, but the creature itself was still firmly borrowed in her throat, really hope she doesn't get anything nasty from it. Anyway, have now let her out, and just hope she comes back in time.

Ds3 is dosed up on calpol, as HAVE to go shopping - got no food in. Have organised a kids' doctor, animal doctor and eye doctor, so not bad for a morning's work

goingfor3 - what's the ad for? As ds ill, I suspect I might be seeing some tv today

goingfor3 · 13/05/2008 08:44

Ernest you are very organised!!!! The ad is for the debenhams three day sale so I only have until friday to catch it!

sophiewd · 13/05/2008 08:46

Sheep ticks then - big and juicy, yum,.

DD is sat huggung her calpol bottle, loves taking her medicine.

aberdeenhiker · 13/05/2008 08:50

PearTart - we bought a Phil&Teds off practical pushchairs (google them) and they were the cheapest and delivered within a week. And my calf cramps were at 3am, but they weren't too bad as I managed to wake up and get up before they were fully knotted.

Ernest - I'd say you've done more than a morning's work! I'm working from home today and I'll I've managed is to walk DS into nursery and come home for a cup of (uggh) raspberry leaf tea. I know you're an hour ahead of me, but still, that's amazingly efficient!

(Am slightly happier about the thought that my crap birth last time saved us £75 in presents to the hospital staff! It's so nice to hear that you got so well taken care of neenz!)

ErnestTheBavarian · 13/05/2008 08:52

lol at hugging calpol bottle. ds2 loves taking his med, but ds3 only takes it if he's feeling really crappy, so when he readily agrees, it's not a good sign.

alipalli · 13/05/2008 08:58

Morning All,

PearTart yes I have been getting leg cramps over the last week or so. Normally just once a night between 5 and 6 am. They hadn't been too bad until yesterday when I was howling in pain, and poor DH who had been very asleep absolutely bricked it that I was in labour.

Ernest poor you - sounds like lots is going wrong on many different fronts. Hope the DS feels a bit better soon and the cat is ok.

I am going to try and watch the programme about teenage Mums via Virgin On Demand later on. Saw a couple of minutes of it last night and couldn't believe that the the 13 year old was only 13, she seemed much more mature.
