Not sure if anyone else has started a new thread as our other one ran out of room, but here we go...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
otter1980 · 12/05/2008 14:24

eira - i know what you mean about the sex - DP and I just couldnt - it was the about the most uncomfortable thing ever...

GCG - park is a brilliant idea! oooo I think you should do that!!!

sweetbean - dont stay away - come and have a moan - it may make you feel a bit better? hope the sunburn doesnr hurt too much xxx

MM II - you poor thing! I can't believe that she wants to come to midwife and wanted to stay switch off your phone!!! agree to meet her at a time/place that suits you and leave when you want to, dont have them round to yours because once they're in you'll never get rid of them!! does sound like you may be having some warm up signs though? not usre about the gurgling although I do remember someone on here having them a while back (GCG was it you?) if your worried ring the midwife though. If you dont want a sweep you can refuse to have it, ask why she wants to do it before due date (as thats not general practice i believe), I would just say that you want to wait another week until she tries, also generally they dont induce till 2 weeks after EDD so you dont have to worry about that yet!

pregnabrain - yes i too have been sucked into the dark corner of the room, Im feeling a bit about the signs because they've been happening so long - am ignoring them now! glad you're on top of the list!

come on - we must have had some more babies!! give us pictures and stories!!!

well i go see the dr again tomorrow - bit disappointing for us both as dr was sure she wouldnt be seeing me when we made the appointment last week... boo!!! come out baby!!!

monkeysmama · 12/05/2008 15:56

I feel much brighter knowing I am not the only one who thinks it is crazy for someone (and their mother) to want to accompany a pregnant woman on a visit to the midwife?!?? I think I am going to suggest she comes over for a coffee tomorrow morning. That way I'll have a time like people have suggested and she'll stop calling! I am now going to be very angry when she gets here though - I don't even want to see her now!

I've done the park thing for my little sisters' birthdays and it has been good if the weather's nice which it is supposed to be. You can organise things in advance (games, people bringing food etc.) and feel like you've done part of it but can take as active (or otherwise) a role in the actual day as you like. I would call in "if there is anything I can do.."s - that'll teach them!

I am going to search for any "gurgling" posts and see what I find.

I feel much more confident refusing the sweep thanks to all these posts. Grateful Pregnancy is weird isn't it - I am in control in most other areas of my life but not knowing what is right & wrong seems to have sapped my confidence.

When I first came across MN I thought I'd use it once or twice but in fact over the past few weeks it has become an increasingly important support to me. I feel a lot more empowered which sounds gushy and silly but really is true.

Hi all

monkeysmama - I would agree about not having a sweep if you don't want, I would guess it's pretty unlikely to work anyway if they are doing it before your due date. I was offered one today at 4 days overdue but didn't have it as when i had one last time I was 5 days over and it was painful and didn't work. I also have the option of having one at 8 days over this time so may have one then to try and avoid induction.

Asics and blobsmummy - congrats on your new arrivals!

mumblesmummy - Hope you're ok, sounds like a horrible experience at the hospital.

I've been given induction date of a week tomorrow when i'll be 12 days overdue, hoping I have it before then. Did actually manage sex last night for first time in weeks (actually probably months now!), was a bit uncomfortable, I then woke up in the night with backache and painful braxton hicks and thought it could be real thing for a moment. Then woke up this morning and no sign of labour!

mayx3 · 12/05/2008 16:42

Hi, I've been a silent watcher of this thread for some time. V bad I know but never felt I had much to add and enjoying watching the chat! I was due on Sat (10th), first baby, don't know what flavour. So I'm definitely feeling for all those who are overdue, very strange to finally be past that date that's been in my diary for months! Whilst the sun is gorgeous, I do feel a bit hot and bothered (soooo feel for my mum, I was born in Sept 76 after that hellish hot summer). Lots of period like pains (which I've had for weeks, but getting more frequent) and lower back pain so keep hoping things are starting, but no pattern to them yet and so far they, plus very active baby and nasty cold just mean very little sleep. Oh well.

Good luck to all - especially those having nightmare times with in laws, hospitals etc...

monkeysmama · 12/05/2008 16:53

Welcome mayx3. I had exactly that conversation with my mum today. I was born in August 76 - two weeks over due too - and she reckons this sunshine in my final week is serving me right!

mayx3 · 12/05/2008 17:01

Yes I'm very glad baby is due in May not August (though of course this may be the hottest we have this year!). Always amused me the number of people who asked when I was due (a few months back) and then said 'oh how lovely a spring baby' - what do they say to those due in January?!

monkeysmama · 12/05/2008 17:29

I thought the same thing but me & dp said yesterday we kind of understand. A close friend had her dd in December when it was really cold and wet and getting dark early etc so her options of what to do in her last few weeks of pregnancy and with a newborn were quite limited!

I can't wait until I can actually walk properly again and can take bubble to the park in the sunshine. I am lamenting the day I decided not to learn to drive before baby & am feeling a bit like a caged animal at the moment. When dp gets home I leap on him to take me out in the car so I can see what other people are doing & get out of the house!

mayx3 · 12/05/2008 17:51

It's true, Spring's a lovely time and apparently night feeds are less bad when it's almost light. So I'm told but we'll see...

Fingers crossed we'll still have some nice weather after these babies have arrived!

Congratulations baiyu. Will catch up with your story tomorrow.

Hope mitchell is feeling OK.

hello mayx3 - sitting up at night feeding is MUCH nicer when it's warm than during the winter months. Both my girls are Autumn and it was freezing but DS1 was early June and it was lovely. (And, for a bonus, most of our May babies will be walking this time next year and will be able to go outside barefoot or in booties/crawling shoes - babies that learn to walk when it's wet and cold either have to wear real shoes or stay indoors).

Still quiet here except for the hundreds of people asking how long I've got. (Answer: 3 days less than when I saw you on Friday). [rolls eyes and drips sarcasm]

KangaAndRoo · 12/05/2008 20:54

LOL Duchess !!! Ive JUST been saying to my friend...."if I get asked one more time...any news" I'll scream!! LOLOLOL

Someones just asked me on FB...no sign of baby? I said..."oh yeah, sorry forgot to say ive had it"!!!! thats why theres NO mention on there!! its a sarcastic day for me today too.

Pina....just out of sorts?? im ok ty hun xxx
((hugs)) xxx

KangaAndRoo · 12/05/2008 20:56

Congrats Baiyu !!!!!

Oh anybody know...or experienced...if shows HAVE to be bloody??? ta

pregnabrain · 12/05/2008 21:08

I KNEW IT!!!

Awww..so pleased for you, baiyu. Many congratulations. And I'm so happy that your partner made it back to be there for the birth. Remember all those months ago you were thinking he might not make it back? What a happy ending.

Right...I'm switching on my babydar again....predicting Azaduhi is probably a bit too easy so I'm going to go for Otter as the next to drop.

Youcannotbeserious · 12/05/2008 21:15

Congratulations BAIYU!!

That's one COOL name!

Issa was born on Sunday the 11th of May at 01:37am, weight: 2670 gram which is 5.8 lb i think,
established Labour took only 2hrs 37mins
only tens and gas&air as pain relief, so there is hope for second timers here. i am soo suprised how i did that without anyting stronger.
he is soo tiny but has a very good appetite and he is doing so great.
he sleeps most of the time and i am able to get a good rest in between feeds and at night.

hopital was really chaotic/busy, but we are doing great, we came home yesterday.
have to say i could do it again
will post more later on

Youcannotbeserious · 13/05/2008 08:02

Wow! Another baby!

COngratulations Azaduhi!!! I think I will use your birth story as inspiration

Mummbles Hope you are OK!

Currently feeling like I still have a lifetime to go before I meet my baby - but actually only 10 days.... I'm

monkeysmama · 13/05/2008 08:11

Azaduhi

Congratulations! Your birth story has calmed this first timer!

Have a happy first few days together!

goodcatholicgirl · 13/05/2008 09:33

congratulations to Azaduhi and Baiyu!!! Glad you are both doing OK and see you on the post natal thread soon.

Thanks for the sympathy re birthday tea-gate!!! The park would have been a good idea but they are coming after school so won't get here til 4:30pm, and the park is half hour walk away (my neices and nephews are the type who get driven everywhere!!). The weather is not meant to be as good at the end of the week, cloudy and 14 degrees. I will definitely plan a park picnic for next year I think...great idea. We have 9 kids aged roughly 8/9 years old. We could play games etc!!! Ooo, getting quite excited about next years party now!!!
otter1980 great idea about Denny taking me in for a couple of hours, but, ummm, she lives 3 hours drive away !!!! What a great idea though....."um, I'm just popping to see a friend, I'll be back in 8 hours ." LOL!!!

sweetbean I'm a bit at you going to the Gower, I had many a wonderful family holiday there as a child/youngster. Rhossili beach...ahhhhhhhhh!!

monkeysmama It was me who had gurgling too. I think it's just bowel/stomach gurgling.

mayx3 yes, I can vouch that spring is a fab time of year to have a baby. DD1 May and DD2 end April. Night feeds MUCH more bearable, not too cold to do your 'skin to skin' contact cuddles, and lots of walking, and generally everyone is happier in the summer!!
