I thought I'd better start another thread as the other one was full to bursting!

OP posts:

pmsl Becky this is turning into a pregnant food porn thread! Ooh I'd like your grandmother's stew too, that's just the sort of thing I was thinking of!

How about Toad in the Hole, homemade by someone very clever. Melt in the mouth batter, really tasty sausages, home made gravy.

Could you not do your food shop online? We're in the middle of nowhere and Tesco still covers us online...I couldn't cope doing the shopping with DD's.

I've also taken on too much freelance work. It just all comes up at once and it's really hard to say no. Hoping that my energy comes back at 12 weeks or I'm a bit stuffed.

Verso · 16/05/2008 18:18

I find I crave something, but then once I've had it I can't eat it again. So bit by bit I'm ruling out loads of foods . I have a cupboard full of sweets because I found boiled sweets helpful with the M/S for about five minutes so ended up stocking up - but now the thought makes me feel really green.

Interesting about the cornish pastie idea though - I've been craving steak and kidney pie (but none in, as our big shop day is tomorrow)! And a mad craving for French onion soup but no one seems to sell it. Any ideas? (I tried Covent Garden soups in Sainsbury's but no, alas .)

Verso · 16/05/2008 18:19

lol @ "food porn" btw >chuckle

hattyyellow · 16/05/2008 18:20

Verso I've done exactly the same! I made pizza with my DD's about 3 weeks ago, loved it at the time and now I have to put the remaining pizza bases box at the back of the cupboard because even the thought of it makes me feel sick!

Hmm, not sure about a supplier of french onion soup. I would have thought Covent Garden soups would do it too? I could just do with some! Our local deli place does a great one, which isn't much help to you!

kayzisexpecting · 16/05/2008 18:21

OOOH I might have a few cornish pasty when I go on holiday. I'm hoping they sell them in Devon. Oh and clotted cream.

LMAO at 'food porn'

hattyyellow · 16/05/2008 18:25

I'm soooooooo hungry! My mouth is watering at all these food ideas and we have naff all ingredients to make anything like any of them in the house .

Verso · 16/05/2008 18:37

Have just discovered that Ocado do onion soup... BUT I WANT IT NOW!!! waaaaa!

hattyyellow · 16/05/2008 18:40

Lol verso..what will you actually be having for dinner?

Is it more boring than pasta mixed with tinned tuna and possibly a handful of chopped spring onions?

Hope someone gets some stew and cornish pasties .

chinchi · 16/05/2008 18:41

Im craving Irn-Bru and fairy cakes. God help me Ive another 31 weeks left!

hotmama · 16/05/2008 18:49

Had no more bleeding so feel a lot more positive.

I've just had a fishfinger cob - sorted!

(licking lips emoticon)

hattyyellow · 16/05/2008 18:53

hotmama that must be such a relief re the bleeding. Glad you're feeling better.

fishfingers, fairy cakes - it's virtual food torment! Although I think we might actually have some fishfingers at home...mmmmmmm.

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/05/2008 19:03

Cheese. Phwooor!
Cheese on digestive biscuits. Total phwooor!
Cornish Pasties. I need a cold shower!

I've had the same problem Verso with really wanting to eat only one thing and then going off it. Since starting to feeling sick at around 5 weeks all I have been able to cope with for breakfast is cornflakes, mint humbugs and grapes and now the thought of all of those makes me feel sick. I am so sick of cornflakes now but I haven't yet come up with an alternative. I'm going to give chrunchie nut cheerios a go. I can't do anything like weetabix or shreddies as they make me feel really sick and toast is a no-no first thing in the morning.

I am hungry too. We're having home-made pizza (I can't eat shop pizza at all at the moment) and salad for tea.

Hattyyellow I'm the worst sort of freelancer. I really struggle to say no. I can't plan my work time at all.

DH is bathing the DSs and I am 'having a break' by being on mumsnet (I think he had in mind reading a book in a nice quiet corner).

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/05/2008 19:05

Ooooh now you're talking: Fishfinger cob. There's very little that can beat a fish finger sandwich in cheap white bread with salad cream, lettuce and cheese, warmed in the microwave. That might not be to everyone's taste though.

hattyyellow · 16/05/2008 19:10

pmsl Becky! What are you having for dinner? Is it food porn or a crappy whatevers in the cupboard like me? Torment me with your home made stew your DH is whipping up whilst simultaneously doing bathtime and stories!

BeckyBendyLegs · 16/05/2008 19:13

It's a compromise tea tonight: home-made pizza (teriyaki chicken, peppers, courchette and red onion with mature cheddar) - DH loves big meaty salty pizzas but I can't stand shop bought pizzas at the moment as they are too greasy and salty so to keep him happy we're still having pizza just without the pepperoni and spicy bits. In the pre-pregnant days we'd have beer with our pizza and watch rubbish TV late into the night but nowadays it's an orange juice and me tucked up in bed by 9.30pm. How sad!

hattyyellow · 16/05/2008 19:17

Ooh can't handle pizza at the moment (is in my early pregnancy loved it and now feel sick at thought of it phase!). Like your toppings though!

Really must finish my report and go home. Am rarely in office but had to come in this 'avo. Lots of exciting young people talking about going out - I had forgotten it was Friday night too! Looking forward to my bed .

Verso · 16/05/2008 19:23

mmm, pizza...(Homer Simpson voice). That could be a go-er. becky the fishfinger cob sounded lush until you mentioned salad cream >shudder<

No idea what I'm going to have. I had a baked potato at lunchtime and was doing splendidly until I went off it halfway through and the smell of it started making me gag. Fun fun!

okaythen · 16/05/2008 19:34

Huge congratulations to everyone who had their scans today, glad to see all the positive chat!

Thanks for your support today too. My scan at the EPU went really well, we saw a good strong looking bean complete with heartbeat. The lady who scanned could see some bruising around the implantation area and reckons that the spotting is a result of this dispersing and disappearing so there may be some more spotting for a couple more days but then should stop. All in all a relief all round. From the scan they worked out that I'm 8 weeks which puts me squarely as due in dec 08 not start Jan 09 as I thought - edd would be 27th but prob going to be an elective section so would be around the 12th. Nice to finally get dates sorted out and to know things are ok thus far. Looks like your def stuck with me on this thread for now, look fwd to chatting more.

Indith · 16/05/2008 20:48

Hello Long time no see!

Huge for all the recent scans, must be so lovely

Booked in with the MW today so I'm all official. Different one to last time but I had met her a few times and she remembered me, she is ace so I'm all bloodless, urine tested, weighed and measured and ethnic origined and signed up for a home birth. Not a single useful coupon in the Bounty Pack. They are known for being rubbish but I'd have thought there would have at least been one for moisturiser or something! At least the newborn one is good for a a pack of wipes and that single nappy they put in to keep in case my washing fails to dry!

Have been very tired recently, was doing so well, nausea going, came through first lot of exams fine then bang. Had blood taken the other day to test iron and thyroid but not heard back so assume was normal and it is just extreme pg tiredness. Still, without going into too much self indulgent details it is pg tiredness with cherries on top.

Food. Hmmmm. Don't fancy anything much at the moment to add to your lists. Am attempting to make sure I eat by having ready cooked chicken and stuff hanging around to nibble. I am so boring so far this pg! Don't want to eat and don't want to have sex Last time I ate like a horse and was a raging nymphomaniac. Mind you I'm probably forgetting a bit and that came later.....I may actually have only just been getting over 2/3 weeks solid of the runs by this stage.....and dp was probably still in Russia.........hmmmm. Hope it changes soon, finish exams in just under 2 weeks and we were planning on going to a nice restaurant, paying a babysitter and everything. Then we are getting married in August, dp says I had better want sex by then! Lol. Bless him he is being so good about it

MaeWest · 16/05/2008 20:54

Good to hear all the good news about scans. I'm quite excited as I think they offer a 12 week as well as 20 week round here now - with DS only had 20 week one.

I have busy work week next week, including trips to London and Devon on different days. Means early mornings and missing bedtimes, but can't be helped. Still, I have a week booked off in June and we will be going down to Devon (cream teas any one? )

Someone mentioned homebirth with first baby - it is possible, DS was born at home 2 yrs ago. I took the view that I would see how I managed (as my MW kept telling me that I would probably end up in hosp anyway) and it was great experience. Painful and knackering too, but that's birth for you Want to have a go of the G&A this time, felt too sick last time...

msdynamo · 16/05/2008 21:58

Indith interesting what you say about yourself during your last pg being a nympho and eating like a horse. I see you had a boy. Several pages back we were all ruminating on old wives tales and whether you can tell the sex of your bean from the way you feel. Maybe yours is a girl this time? I have been feeling quite up for sex and eating shedloads so maybe its a boy.

We'll all have to compare notes in December and see what pops out!

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/05/2008 08:38

I'm right off sex myself, shudder at the thought at the moment! I'm jealous of those of you in the mood . Poor DH claims he doesn't mind but they have to say that, don't they or we'd drive them mad with paranoia and jealousy. The last two times I think once I started to feel better I was a bit of a nympho even doing it every day when I was 40+ days with number 1 to get things going!

I fell asleep last night shortly after eating my teriyaki pizza. I think it was 9.15 when DH woke me up and suggested I go to bed.

kayzisexpecting · 17/05/2008 16:24

I completely went off sex last pg and I had a boy.
I am like a nympho this time. Apart from still havin no morning sickness this pregnancy is completely different from my first. A lot of people think I am having a girl.

BeckyBendyLegs · 17/05/2008 18:24

We've just bought a house! Ahhhhhh! DH is having champagne tonight. I am having a token sip from his champagne and a glass of milk.

I hope everyone has had a good day today. I'm starving again but we don't have any fish fingers or cornish pasties in the house sadly so it's good old crust of bread and butter for me.

kayzisexpecting · 17/05/2008 18:27

My Dad is here for the weekend and him and DH are now about to go to the chippy!!!

YAY about your house becky
