I thought I'd better start another thread as the other one was full to bursting!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pixsix · 20/05/2008 16:26

Oh wow Flumpy that's brilliant news!

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/05/2008 16:31

That's lovely news Flumpy. I bet you feel so pleased

I don't have a bump of any sort either but I'm one of those annoying people (sorry) who just gets a bump and then loses it all within two weeks of giving birth (although that might not happen this time!)

I haven't thought much about tests. Again the head-in-the-sand approach. I know I need to think about these things.

I get bounced upon by the DSs all the time. I try to stop them but it's impossible.

kayzisexpecting · 20/05/2008 17:03

Thats great news Flumpy Becky I don't have a bump as such. But nearly every pair of normal trousers I have don't fit. But I didn't lose the weight from DS so I have a tubby belly so I don't know if there is a bump or not.

artichokes · 20/05/2008 17:39

Fanstastic news Flummpy .

Becky no bump here either. In fact I have lost weight so my normal clothes are loose and I am a size 10 for the first time in years! With DD I put on 6lbs in the first trimester (and 5 stone overall ) but I lost it all and another 10lbs by the time DD was 7 months old.

Verso · 20/05/2008 18:25

flumpy that's FAB news!!! Really pleased for you.

God - wish I was a size 10, artichokes . The very idea! . I was a 14/16 before having DD... lost loads of weight after having her, then put even MORE on with the antidepressants for PND (despite begging Dr to give me ones that don't make you gain weight...) Currently size 18, though I have lost weight since conceiving so things still sort-of fit... but now developing the beginnings of a bump. It's getting challenging trying to hide it at work...

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/05/2008 18:39

I'm size 10 as well! Big sorry! I've always been the same weight more or less since I was 18. I just don't fluctuate much. After having DS1 who was a good-sized baby at nearly 10lbs he drank me dry practically and I lost all my baby weight in two weeks to the extent that the health visitor was urging me to drink full fat milk and eat those creamy luxury yoghurts to try to keep up with his appetite. DS2 did the same to me but not quite so bad. I do have a flabby tummy though after two children, that will never disappear I am sure.

snowwombat · 20/05/2008 19:11

Hi girls, long time no post. Scoffing home made guacamole and rice crackers (mmm keep bringing on those carbs!!). Only caught up on the last few days but welcome to our newbies and very sorry emma, hope you are doing ok.
Things been a little stressful here- another large bleed last week, with clots (sorry), thought it was all over. Seen in EPAU Friday, scanned and bubs happily moving around despite a large bleed around the sac. They weren't great with any other info, but it wasn't my local service as I was away with work.

Flumpy and hotmama am so glad you have had good news after your scares.

I had my 12 week scan today. Been dated as 12+3 and due date 30/11. I would really like to stay on this thread, if that is ok? Sonographer was brilliant- lots of detailed anatomy explained, measured the bleed, took all the time to answer our questions and gave me heaps of photos. They don't do a nuchal scan but instead offer the triple test at 16 weeks- bloods only and then an anomoly scan st 20 weeks.

hatty and turnip so jealous of your bumps. One of my colleagues commented today on my belly. Unfortunately it is just my fat gut, full up of white bread!!

bisou hope your trip going well.I don't have to get up more than once for nocturnal wees either- maybe we should take this as great pelvic floor control

be good and take care of yourselves.sorry for the very 'me' post, we aren't telling many people in RL and i really appreciate this forum.

msdynamo · 20/05/2008 19:13

Hi flumpybumpy, am so happy for you, it's brought a tear to my eye. Truth is I felt quite depressed yesterday with the news that you had to wait a whole 24 hours to see the EPU and the general feedback you received from the GP and midwife. I'm so glad the experts were wrong, and we Mumsnetters were right HOORAY!!!!Non alcoholic drinks all round eh

Twiga · 20/05/2008 19:27

Emma - so sorry that you've lost your baby. Hope this coming week off gives you the time and space you need together.

hotmamma - glad to hear it's good news!

flumpy - you've made my day - congrats on such a fab outcome .

Indith · 20/05/2008 19:58

So sorry for you Emma, take good care of yourself, glad you are both taking time off work to be there for each other.

Flumpy that is great news

I'm even more annoying as I'm an 8 and pretty much always have been. But I don't put on weight I lose it. If I'm not very careful about eating loads I just shrink, you start being able to play guitar on my ribs and it takes me months and months to even begin to put any of it back on. Trust me it is a pain in the arse. Am sort of thicker rather than bumpy, can't do jeans up but a size 10 is way too big. I love my new elastic waist band skirt. (not maternity, from Monsoon, tis wonderful, we could all have matching ones!)

Wombat of course you can stay I am still an active December '06 poster but ds was born 11th Jan!

I am not having any tests. We are lucky here, they offer them all as well as dating scan around 12 weeks and anomaly at 20 so it seems we have pretty good antenatal care. I'll have the scans of course but my personal thinking for the other tests is that it simply wouldn't make any difference to my decision to carry the baby.

chutneymary · 20/05/2008 20:05

FLumpy, how lovely, I am so pleased! Well done to you! It's horrible having to wait to find out isn't it?

Mibbes, what tests you get depends on where you live. Here we get a nuchal and an anomaly scan at 20 odd weeks. I am having the nuchal and will have CVS if I get a bad result. However, I have age against me (think I am the second oldest on the thread at 38) so my odds are already quite poor as I am such an old codger.

As for paying for a nuchal, I think a lot depends on what you would do if you got a bad result. The nuchal can help to predict other things as well as Downs (such as Turners, Edwards, Pataus etc), some of which are very serious and others less so. Some scans also look for heart problems which can be rectified in the womb, or soon after delivery. We have the blood test combined with the nuchal here, but I have heard that the blood tests alone can give a lot of false positives, which might mean you opt for an invasive procedure unnecessarily. At the very least, you might worry yourself a lot when you don't need to. Here a nuchal scan done privately is £150 (inc the blood test). I'm booked in for a week on Friday for mine. HTH

I am less of a chubster than I was. I was a solid 14 pre this pg but now reckon am a 12 round the bum and a smaller 14 on the top. I have HUGE bosoms though, so never get much below a 14. Still, they do their job. I BF like a trooper with DD1 and lost loads, but with DD2 I didn't lose as much. May have to stop being friends with you Becky if you can get back in a size 10 in 2 weeks .

DH out tonight so am about to raid the kitchen alone. Feel much less sick today so hope I am turning a corner.

Is anyone still on for a London meet up at some point?

mibbes · 20/05/2008 20:12

Flumpy hurray, what fab news !

majormoo · 20/05/2008 20:16

Emma sorry to hear your news

Flumpy, Hotmama, snowwombat glad all is OK with you. Really shows we should not panic when we see blood but impossible not to.

I already seem to have quite a bump which is awkward as I do not want people to know. Saw the midwife today and a mum from school was waiting in the surgery

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/05/2008 20:19

Well I might just stop being your friend, Chutneymary for having huge bosoms! I've always wanted a bit more up front. I'm 34B and I think the biggest I have ever been, when in full breastfeeding mode, was 36D and that was fantastic!

We're having out-of-the-freezer food tonight: chicken pie from Sainsbury's baked potatoes and baked beans.

I don't live in London so I can't join a meeting. DH works there sometimes so I could send him on my behalf!

mibbes · 20/05/2008 20:20

Oh Chutneymary cross-posted. Thank you so much for the advice, that is really helpful - I'll speak to DP and see what he says . It is very kind of you to take the time to post such a detailed response.

kayzisexpecting · 20/05/2008 20:41

Wombat Of course you can stay. You might still give birth in December!!

For people like me not in London(would love to meet everyone) that may be near Yorkshire there is a Leeds meet up in August. I'll get the link in a minute.

Becky I have rather large bosoms too. I'm now a 38DD which I love. I don't really want to get much bigger though.

kayzisexpecting · 20/05/2008 20:47

Here is the thread for a Leeds meet up if anyone is near.

MaeWest · 20/05/2008 21:17

Sorry you're leaving us emmaPP, take care

Glad scan turned out well flumpbumpy, what a relief for you.

I have stupidly large bosoms (30GG) on a size 12/14 frame, so I look a little top-heavy. Bf-ing DS has shrunk them a little tho, they used to be even bigger

BeckyBendyLegs · 20/05/2008 21:23

Oh no I'm no where near Leeds either. DH was there yesterday for work so I could send him up for that one as well!

We've just watched Brothers and Sisters. That programme makes me cry it is soooo slushy! They were glugging wine again but luckily today I don't feel so sick as I did the last time I watched it.

I'm very envious of everyone who has more substantial bosoms than me!

IceCube · 20/05/2008 22:43

Gosh, you're all so small, or maybe the bigger girls like me are just keeping quiet .

I am size 16 normally, but wearing 18s at the mo until I get some maternity stuff. I am also normally a 34DD but the woman in Bravissimo put me in an F cup when I had a fitting a few days ago!!

So come on own up, are there any bigger ladies out there to keep me company trying not to gain toooo much weight in pregnancy? I have my booking in appointment tomorrow and will ask about weight gain then but from reading up a bit I think I could get away with only gaining just over a stone as I my body will re-assign a certain amount of my existing weight.

kayzisexpecting · 20/05/2008 22:46

I am a size 16. I was a size 10 before having DS but I put on loads of weight and haven't lost it yet.

I will be being very strict and joining the gym when I have this baby.

chutneymary · 20/05/2008 22:53

IceCube - step away from the scales! You are not big and I think trying to limit your intake so you only put on a stone might be a/ really hard and b/ not good for the baby.

I put on loads with each of mine (about 4 stone) - and I am not an 8 stone girl unpregnant - but a lot of that is baby and in my case fluid as I had excess water both times. What I am going to try to do this time is eat what I want but in moderation. One slice of cake instead of the whole thing. Lots of exercise and fruit, veg etc.

You still need to eat a good diet to get the right nutrients etc for the baby and by limiting yourself too much you might go short. Remember that the baby will take what s/he needs and you will go without (eg iron, calcium etc) and so you need to watch your diet in a good way. I also found near the end when I was huge and fed up a glass of wine and packet of crisps once in a while did a fantastic lot of good. Plus cake. Lots of cake.

I would love to keep an eye on my intake with you but don't intend to get on the scales. They often don't weigh you regularly when you are pg as the amount of weight you put on does not correlate with the size / healthiness of your baby.

Hope that's not too bossy

southernbelle77 · 21/05/2008 07:04

Yep, I'm a big girl! Had a laugh with the midwives (normal one and student) about phobia of scales as we were all on the larger side, which actually made me feel better about stepping on them!! I put on a pair of size 16 jeans yesterday (they were always a smaller size 16 - I keep telling myself!) and had to take them off about 5 minutes later as felt like I was cutting off the circulation!!
I am not trying not to put too much weight on as such, as trying more to be healthy (someone remind me of that later when I am craving a bar of chocolate!!).

Anyway, this is the first time I have been on in days so trying to catch up.

Really sorry to hear your news Emma. I hope you are ok.

Glad your news was so good flumpy, that's great

I had midwife on Monday which was ok. Didn't really do anything other than take loads of details that they took last time! Scan booked for 13th June so 3 weeks Friday and counting! Still paranoid something will go wrong but not dwelling on it too much. Keep contemplating buying another pregnancy test but no reason to think anything is wrong so keeping stepping away from the isle!

pixsix · 21/05/2008 07:25

Oh I'm so glad that the thread has taken this turn, there's something I've been worried about but afraid to ask....

I'm big too, 14 in trousers and 16 in tops (also have over-sized norks) and BMI on the over-weight/obese border. I've always struggled with my weight. Before Christmas I managed to get down to a 12/14 but gained weight again over Winter and Christmas and hadn't got round to losing it again when I found out I was pregnant. I think I've gained more weight since but have been afraid to get on the scales.

My question is: when I have my scan on Tuesday, will the sonogropher have trouble seeing my baby because of the fat? I'd be mortified if the scan didn't work and he had to tell me it was because I was too big.

Do any larger ladies know anything about this? I've been so worried about it, along with all my other worries about getting bad news at the scan. I hope it doesn't sound too stupid!

chutneymary · 21/05/2008 07:28

Pixsix - if they can't see the baby (which is unlikely) they will do a transvaginal scan. Not fun but gets to do the job. HTH
