bashboid · 25/04/2008 11:30

Hi all and congratulations to all those who have had their little ones since I was last on here. Haven't had chance to check for a while as spent most of last week in hospital and am still feeling pretty sore and achey. BUT at least I have a baby to show for it all!

Oliver Michael was born by emergency c-section at 4.14 am on Saturday, 19 April, weighing in at 7lb, 4oz. My birth story is a bit long so I won't bore you all with the details but basically I went into hospital for my 41 week appointment last Wednesday and the sweep was completely unsuccessful as the cervix was still too high, posterior and closed. However, my blood pressure was high so they took me in for monitoring and ended up keeping me in and inducing me that evening rather than wait a week. To cut a long story short, two days and lots of painful contractions and examinations later (including two attempts at breaking my waters which they had to get a consultant to do because they were too thick and the midwife couldn't manage it first go!) I was still only 3cm dilated and there was no sign of any progress so they had to go for the c-section. Just goes to show how comfy the little fella was in there I suppose! Not quite what I wanted but by that stage I was completely knackered and just wanted him out!! And it was all worth it in the end because he is just gorgeous - I could just look at him all day! We got home from the hospital on Monday and Oli seems to be thriving (as far as I can tell as a first timer!) In any case, he is feeding well and I guess that's the main thing.

So much for a short post. Sorry, got a bit carried away....

Sending labour vibes to all those still waiting......

TheMaskedPoster · 25/04/2008 11:47

Huge Congrats bashboid and Atilla!! Enjoy those little bundles of joy xx

Speaking of which Olivia is 1 month old today - unbelievable. I can't remember what life was like before her IYSWIM. She is doing really well and DD1 is still behaving really well too (although she does have a tummy bug at the moment - so I have to restrict the kisses she keeps wanting to give Livvi!)

Olivia was doing really well at night time feeding etc, but have discovered she doesn't appreciate large amounts of onions or garlic (and hence neither do I) - so will have to cut back on them for a while me thinks.

Hope all are well and sending labour vibes to those waiting in the wings AND healing nip vibes to those with painful nips (mine ok now - but the lefty was painful for a while).

tmp xx

OOPS caps.

egyptianprincess · 25/04/2008 12:22

Hi everyone
Congrats to everyone who had their babies! Sorry I havent been on much but after being at home with Maya for 2 days the midwife came and said she had lost a little too much weight for her liking (she couldnt latch on properly for the first 2 days until I got life saving nipple shields) and that although she was making good progress she wanted us to get her checked out by paediatric a&e. So we went down there at 6pm feeling relatively relaxed..the docs were unconcerned about weight loss and instead found her to look a little too blue for their liking..i think it was really subtle as she looked perfectly pink to us..they then started doing all these tests and found her oxygen levels tobe really low at which point they told us she probably had a congenital heart or lung defect at which point dh and i started weeping silently. they then did all the tests they could do at the royal free then decided to transfer Maya in an emergency ambulance to Great Ormond St at 2 in the morning..We followed by car. They did ultrasounds there and thank god concluded at 5 am that there is nothing structurally wrong with Maya's heart and that they hole btw the atriums is just taking slightly longer than usual to close which is causing more deoxygenated blood to flow through her body than normal. Thankfully, she wont need any surgery right now as there is a 95% chance the hole will close on its own..If it doesnt she can have a simple surgical procedure when she's much older...I have never known such terror or such relief. It was the worst 11 hrs of our lives but we are so thankful she's ok.
Apart from that she is wonderful although I am still very traumatized by the birth (especially the suturing bit) and keep having flashbacks..Does anyone else feel the same. At this point even though I love Maya more than I ever thought possible I cant see myself ever having another baby. My stitches are still very sore and last night I had to take my ring shaped cushion to the cinema.

chipmonkey · 25/04/2008 12:41

Congratulations bashboid!!! Will update you on the list in a minute!

Eygyptianprincess, what a nightmare for you and dh! Nothing worse than being worried about your baby's health, particularly when they are so tiny! One of my SIL's had a hole in her heart at birth which closed up by itself and she is right as rain now with 2 children of her own! I think flashbacks are normal, particulary if things don't go as you'd hoped, but should ease with time.

PortAndLemon · 25/04/2008 12:43

egyptianprincess -- might be worth checking out the Birth Trauma Association. Flashbacks are associated with developing PND so if you can talk the experience through with someone trained then it may help you. Great to hear that Maya is basically healthy; that must have been a traumatic day.

sagitta · 25/04/2008 13:02

Congrats Attila and bashboid - and so sorry to hear of your traumas, Egyptianprincess. Glad to hear Maya is OK, though.

I have already had to cancel part of my long drive today - I feel really heavy and tight-tummied and pretty crap. I just need to hold on till Sunday ...

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 25/04/2008 13:06

egyptianprincess- hope you're OK, we had something similar when bas was a day old, he was taken to SCBOU as they thought he had heart problems- scared the oife out of us, the baby in the next incubator was being prepped for cardiac surgery and my cousins son died of hypoblastic left heart- turned out he has a murmur but its probably nothing.

bas was weighed today- hasn't gained anything but not lost either. Not convinced tobh but last week he ahsn't poo'd for a week and more before he was weighed, then shortly after he had several explosions so hoping that's where the difference lies. Fingers crossed. Got HV weighing him Wednesday, MW Friday, HV following Wednesday...

Sheds75 · 25/04/2008 13:07

Afternoon all, WOW it has been a busy few weeks for little ones. Huge congrats to all with new ones that have arrived. Sorry I haven't had chance to look back at all the posts but Henry is suffering from colic so I get little chance for a full MN indulgent session. hope everyone is enjoying their lo's as much as we are.

will try and catch up properly over the next few days

Sheds75 · 25/04/2008 13:17

Carey87 · 25/04/2008 13:27

Carey87 · 25/04/2008 13:30

Also, is there anyone here that has done a home learning course? if so, what compnay/site did you use? or how do I check that the qualification I recieve is 'worthy' IYSWIM?

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 25/04/2008 13:33

have you looked at open uni and open college?

northeastmummy · 25/04/2008 13:48

Huge congrats bashboid. And big hugs egyptianprincess - so glad everything was resolved for you. It sounds really awful - what a worry. It never ends!

Carey - I did a course through the International Correspondance School a few years back. I found them great however I don't know what they're like now. Are you that fed up?? Did the garden not do it for you . Any more twinges? Nothing much to report here - still feeling a bit uncomfy and sore but nothing even vaguely contraction like is happening.

eva07 · 25/04/2008 13:50

congrats to all the new babies, love all these pictures of teeny-tiny newborns!!
I'm a bit at the moment, I just came home from the MW, had my 40 wks appointment today, and she said that the baby was only 4/5 engaged. She booked me in for a sweep for next friday but she said she could only do it if the baby was more engaged by then.
Is there anything I can do except going for walks and staying upright most of the time?
If I have to keep up with calls/texts/mails from anxious grandparents-to-be for another week I might go mad...

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 25/04/2008 13:53

eva, cleaning floor position great! search optimal foetal positioning (sorry, one handed typing lol)

eva07 · 25/04/2008 13:55

thanks peachy, and what a lucky coincidence, kitchen floor definitly needs scrubbing...

Carey87 · 25/04/2008 14:07

omg! the course fees for just a diploma in law are 4k on open uni! might have to have a rethink

ICS do look good, thank you northeast x

ive just got a headache, garden looks good though
