oh and he said could i not make her gaps between feeds longer?? Errr, how? leave her cry? i have put canesten on them for now.

VictorianSqualor · 05/05/2008 19:46

Dimlow.
Even DP knows that's ridiculous!
I don't know about you but after the initial pain I feel better whilst actually feeding!

scorpio1 · 05/05/2008 19:51

the first 20 secs is agony but ok when actually feeding. hurts after too.

Mollyfloss · 05/05/2008 19:53

Helo ladies. i don't know where you super Mum's with new Lo's get the time to come on the thread, lead alone those of you who have more than one kid.

Congrats to all the new Mum's and good luck to all the one's wtill waiting, can't be long now!

I'm still working on the BF here. LO is doing quite well though, but tends to take her time when feeding. She starts out really well, guzzling for a while and then does stops and starts and often has to be woken up. How long does a feed take for the other Mum's who are BF? You're not really supposed to as it's on demand but just wondered if anyone had a rough idea... Does anyone time the feeds? How many feeds a days are your LO's having?

PortAndLemon · 05/05/2008 20:31

I have a laptop on the sofa next to my breastfeeding station...

It depends. Sometimes she'll have a nice organised 10-minutes-a-side feed, but often she'll have say 15 minutes on one side, take a 5-minute nap, 15 minutes on the other side, then want the first side again... repeat ad nauseam. Particularly in the evenings. We used to be able to have 2-hour sessions, although not so much any more. As she gets older we're getting fewer of the extended cluster sessions and more discrete feeds.

Denny185 · 05/05/2008 21:03

Woolly - not sure what happens with inductions, never had one myself, I believe there are different stages - pessaries/drips/waters being broken. I presume it depends how you present as to what they will do. Im sure someone more knowledgable will let u know.

DD2 feeds anything from 15 to 90 minutes (I generally just feed till she stops), usually depending on how sleepy she is rather than anything else, just after lunch time sleep she seems to be the worst, often have to strip her off. Thankfully the quickest ones seem to be the night feed - I think one of them is only a comfort feed as thats only 15 mins and not v enthusiastically on her part.

Denny185 · 05/05/2008 21:05

Talking of feeding I wonder how Ellie is getting on this weekend?

northeastmummy · 05/05/2008 22:07

Hi Molly. DD2 is only a week old so we're still settling into b/f. She started off really sleepy and I was waking her up for feeds, mainly because I didn't want my milk supply to suffer. She's settled into a more regular routine over the last couple of days - feeding every 3 to 4 hours. Saying that, she only went about 2.5 hours between her last two feeds.

Your DD sounds like she feeds much like my DD1. It was a slow process most of the time. DD2 is only feeding for about 15 to 20 mins and only from one side, but is much more satisfied after each feed than DD1 ever was. I can't believe how different they are.

ladylush · 05/05/2008 22:51

Scorpio - so sorry to hijack thread I wanted to pick your brains! Looking to book self catering cottage in North Devon. Have seen one in Holsworthy. Any idea what that region is like? Info much appreciated xx
Btw, sorry to hear bf painful. It was with ds. Didn't have thrush but still painful. Had to use lansinoh and cabbage leaf cream practically non-stop (though had to wash off the cabbage leaf cream before ds fed). Nightmare. Don't know how I managed for 7 months. He was such a fidgety feeder too. Hope you are ok. Millie is such a dote

Apologies all for intruding

Carey87 · 06/05/2008 08:17

moomins - good luck today with consultants

scorpio - sorry your in pain

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 06/05/2008 09:48

ladylush, dh knows the area well (carnival territory... ) so will ask when he gets up at lunchtime.

mw coming to weigh bas soon- am v nervous, but chatted to nct lady at school this morning and she thinks he's fine atm if not losing, thinks he's going to have a massive growth spurt shortly- bet thats when we;re camping at whitsun!

trying to stick to a 2 hourly routine for bf, he's really sucky and snacks but isn't hungry so only gets the more dilute milk.... etc etc. tried a dummy but not good enough, not mummy lol (clever lad )

actually have a free day today.... submitted dissertation friday wahey! its not the A i could have got but i am just thinking I achieved getting it in at all!

exams next.... damn!

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 06/05/2008 09:49

oh wooly, i had induction with ds1, just needed pessary- cant remember f i had arm or not (pethidine lol). was certainly a less painful birth than ds4 if more drawn out, wuldnt worry too much.

sagitta · 06/05/2008 09:54

HI all,

Congrats on new babies! And hope the thrush /bfing gets better, those in pain.

I've had to take some time off MN as too miserable to be here. Apparently I've got a lazy cervix which means I am (probably) unable to go into labour by myself. I have about two contractions a day, and am 2+cm dilated and have been for 10 days. Had a show. But the health authority won't induce me till 40+14 (41+3 today).
Can feel PND (AND?) circling like a vulture. Feel inadequate, and resentful of LO for making me such a crap mummy to DD, and letting down entire family who have cancelled holidays etc.
Really hope the others who are left are feeling more cheery!

Carey87 · 06/05/2008 10:18

oh Sagitta, really sorry your feeling so pants

Your not a crap mummy at all! and I'm pretty sure that all your family care about is that you and LO are ok!

sagitta · 06/05/2008 10:32

There's no excuse, really, Carey - I think you are more overdue than me! And I went to 42+1 last time so I should have known...

PortAndLemon · 06/05/2008 10:35

Sagitta, you are not a crap mummy. Some women just cook their babies longer; my mother didn't have any of us before 42 weeks (and my brother not until 43 weeks, although that time she did get induced). I sometimes think they shouldn't give EDDs at all, just a month-long period in the space of which you'll probably have the baby.

Peachy, tiktok always says people get too hung up on foremilk vs. hindmilk. If Bas is feeding every two hours he'll probablybe getting fairly high-fat milk (the canonical tiktok post on this is here.

Woollymummy · 06/05/2008 10:36

Sagitta, you are a good mummy, don't worry. I had the same sort of thing, DP saying in an accusatory tone " well, you said this one would be earlier than last time!" as the gigs he turned down come to an end, mentioning the £900 he has missed out on as a result....My MW telling me off for misleading him, as OBVIOUSLY if I was late last time I will be late this time.....DP getting stressed as he is about to go off on some gigs he CANNOT get out of this week, so his guilt is obviously put back on me..........I think I said something like "I hope this one comes earlier than last time" and everyone jumped to conclusions......

I am sure when our litle ones eventually come out they will cheer us up. I hope your induction goes well, and that you can enjoy the last few days beforehand. Good luck!

PortAndLemon · 06/05/2008 10:37

( I know that's teaching my grandmother to suck eggs as you actually have bf training and I don't (although (OT) I am thinking of training when DD is older))

sagitta · 06/05/2008 10:40

Thanks everyone. I think its - as everyone else has said - also 'cos its so hard answering the phone/ seeing people and still being pregnant. Two different office sweepstakes have now failed 'cos I'm still pregnant. And I live in a really small community which is just starting to get embarrassing!

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 06/05/2008 10:47

PAL, I can mentor anyone but when it comes to my own baby I just panic LOL- daft mummy brain!

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 06/05/2008 10:50

sagitta youre just normal with your reaction. by the time bas arrived (41 +1) I was seriously regretting having thw phone contact role as I would shout when it alerted me to a new arrival - and nasty? That didnt even cover the way I was being to DH!

But in under a week it will be over, and you will have your lo. if i'm anything to go by you'll forget all about the waiting almost immediately and things will even out.

scorpio1 · 06/05/2008 10:51

Saw hv this morning, we have thrush too. off to gp in a bit for drops etc. However feel quite chuffed becuase Millie has put on 9oz in 8 days

VictorianSqualor · 06/05/2008 10:57

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH, I think I've got flipping mastitis as WELL as thrush now.
My breast feels constantly full and is bright red, great

Molly up until the thrush Alex's timetable was thus

6am- feed (10 minutes)
SLEEP
8:30am- feed (10 minutes)
SLEEP
11:00am - wake up for the day, feed- (30- 45minutes)
be awake, just not feeding til
1pm - feed (30-45 minutes)
2pm -school run, so sleep in buggy til
4pm -home, feed (30-45)
6:30pm-8:30pm cluster feed, on and off for 10/15 minutes a time, hardly any gaps.
8:30pm bath
9:00pm feed (30 minutes)
1am- feed (30-45) minutes.

he has what i call 'full-feeds' and 'top-ups' his 'full-fed last longer, but have bigger gaps, top-ups every hour or so for 10-15 minutes.

HTH

VictorianSqualor · 06/05/2008 10:58

Oh and SAGITTA, I SECOND WHAT PEACHY SAID (oops caps)
every person on here thathad a baby beforeme....I hated them, i'd get really fed up reading 'my waters have broke' or 'i'm having ctx'

Carey87 · 06/05/2008 11:14

I third! I hated my DP SIL for weeks (even though I knew she would have hers before me, 6 weeks in total) and I would pretty much cry everytime there was a birth announcement on here, even though I wasnt even due!

And I can guarantee that I will still be sitting in hospital on Friday without a LO! Little bugger does not want to come out, feel like such a failure for not being able to did it au naturale, but I now just keep concentrating on the fact that it will be here soon.

However, if one one person says to me 'it will come when its ready' I will fish slap them!
