PFJ, I don't think you have to see the HV if you don't want to! I would let her have it, all the same if you do decide to see her. Horrible thing to say to you!

christmaspixie · 23/04/2008 18:31

Oh PFJ, you POOR thing. In my experince Health visitors talk a LOAD OF CRAP. Mine used to tell me to be careful giving my baby organic carrots in case they gave her listeria. They also seem to delight in making you feel like a crap parent, and enjoy their superiority. Just ignore her. See the posts below about all the pushing of bottle feeding, telling Ellie she can't feed because of her nipples etc etc. But what she did to you today is totally bloody outrageous, you should lodge a complaint against her nad ask to be seen by a different one. BIG HUGS

By the way, having a few contractions today - some quite painful, but on and off all day and not regular. Looks like I might be in for a few long days and no sleep! Argh!

KnitterInTheNW · 23/04/2008 18:31

Oh PFJ, what a horrible situation to have been in. Is there any way you can see if there's a different HV that can come and see you on Monday? I don't think anyone would want to see her again after that.

(By the way, did you get my email? I don't want to keep stalking you, if you've seen it and don't want them could you let me know so I can eat them please? )

ThePFJ · 23/04/2008 18:36

Email?? Oooerr.. let me check!

ThePFJ · 23/04/2008 18:39

OH WOW! I love you Knitter!

PFJ DS has a "finger-mark" shaped blemish on his back just like those it came up within a few days of birth (but after his paediatric check, so didn't get recorded in his notes) and has remained there ever since (he's three now). I've been half-expecting a HV to make a fuss about it ever since. I'm not even sure what it is -- if we were a dark-skinned family I'd say a Mongolian blue spot, because those are easily mistaken for bruises too (many of the mums in the Multicultural families section of the boards have stories just like yours), but we're not so it probably isn't.

Just as a heads-up, if Jack's marks are the same as DS's -- any time he knocks or scrapes his it comes up as an angry welt for a couple of hours (a HV would have a field day with it at that point).

I think you could legitimately phone up and ask to be assigned a different HV as you've lost all confidence in that one.

I suppose it's good that they are alert to these possibilities, but -- well!

VictorianSqualor · 23/04/2008 18:40

PFJ, Complain, now.
I can't beleive what tosh they spout.
Good thng is HV's are reknowned for talking bollocks.
Another good thing, there are likely to be more than one HV assigned to your surgery so you can ask to change to a different one.
Lastly you do not have to see her. You can refuse, obviously you may still want to get Jack weighed but you can take him to the baby clinic instead.
But please, complain, you dont deserve that.
xxxxx

ThePFJ · 23/04/2008 18:42

Christmaspixie I hope all goes well and you do get some sleep. Fingers crossed for you. And even though I havent been catching up on the threads ANYTHING bad they say to Ellie is considered by me to be a complete insult and I will happily send 'grrr' vibes to anyone making her feel miserable.

-Grrr's-

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 23/04/2008 18:44

pfjhow awful for you, what a cow

you can certainly ask to have another- hv back home was a nassty cow and wehad her changed (basically, ds3 failed hearing test- i wasnt that bothered as so did ds1 and ds2 with no actual probs- and she asked me, loudly and in a clinic full of people including my sizter- if i actually loved him or not )

don't let her get away with this!

KnitterInTheNW · 23/04/2008 18:45

I'll get 'em posted tomorrow, PFJ. You're even more in need of being treated after your encounter with the loony HV!

ThePFJ · 23/04/2008 18:46

Thanks VS and PAL, was hoping you might help build up my resolve to complain. I have an almighty migraine atm from the whole day, but I know I'll make a call tomorrow and resolve this. A baby clinic feels like a good option for me, that way I would feel less like they were intruding I think ifyswim.

If I have nightmares tonight about my baby being taken away I'll be even bloody madder in the morning.

ThePFJ · 23/04/2008 18:48

thanks Knitter -hugs-

ThePFJ · 23/04/2008 18:59

BTW PAL I have copy pasted your comments on the marks in my 'mumsnet useful comments' folder on my desktop where I store away any posts that I may want to keep for the future. It was very helpful and nice of you to let me know. Cheers to you. xxx

Carey87 · 23/04/2008 19:55

OMG pfj!

slap her!

Cx

northeastmummy · 23/04/2008 20:03

Crikey PFJ - no way do you have to stand for that. I'm totally shocked. Of course I understand they're looking out for that kind of thing, and it's for the good of those babies that aren't as lucky as ours, but they should really be careful about how they approach that kind of thing. She could easily have had it checked out without putting you through so much stress.

Good luck christmaspixie ... fingers crossed things get going soon!!

Carey87 · 23/04/2008 20:04

sorry, not very constructive I know! really angers me when people are like that though!

me and DP went for a loooooooooong walk today, and my back is killing me. really fed up of being preggers, sorry to moan

going to chain DP to bed tonight and demand it

scorpio1 · 23/04/2008 20:26

pfj - hope you are ok now. Jamie has a mongolian blue spot and i got his gp to write what it was at birth on his medical file so never any questions from anyone iyswim.

I was joking about sex next weekend!! VS - its just until you feel ready with vaginal birth - last time it was within 2 weeks but i have grazes this time.

PortAndLemon · 23/04/2008 20:30

Hmm... maybe DS's is a mongolian blue spot too, then. I've just always felt dubious about drawing it to anyone's attention to ask what it was in case we got the same reaction as PFJ.

scorpio1 · 23/04/2008 20:32

are you a dark skinned family? then it prob is Mimi has a red birthmark on her neck.

Fllight · 23/04/2008 20:34

Just spoke to Pixie and gave her strict instructions to inform me when there is any news! She's doing really well and says she might start a thread tomorrow if it is still going on.

Please everyone send her good quick labour vibes!

goodcatholicgirl · 23/04/2008 20:36

denny185 You can get condoms free from your local family planning clinic , that's if you don't mind sitting with all the Vicky Pollards in the queue .

scorpio1 · 23/04/2008 20:36

or, cough, ahem, tesco are doing bogof on durex.

PortAndLemon · 23/04/2008 20:39
Bainmarie · 23/04/2008 20:51

That is shocking PFJ, I would definately complain about that HV.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 23/04/2008 21:10

Good luck bein sent Pixie's way

PFJ - what an awful experience for you to go through - as if you aren't stressed enough you get some stupid cow of a HV pretty much accusing you of something terrible! I would so complain about her and get yourself a new one or go to the clinic - you don't need to be treated like that! APPALLING! Very [shocked] and for you!
