I know! wouldnt it just

she is having hers at same hospital as me so dont mind too much as long as she says nice positive things about it

PortAndLemon · 23/04/2008 14:00

Double your calorific intake?!? Are you feeding a baby or a strapping six-foot Marine? (Please don't answer that if the answer isn't "a baby" as I don't want the mental image). You can have a glitch in your supply after a bad shock (bereavement etc.), but it recovers quickly (according to tiktok) regardless of what you eat or don't eat (the shock thing happened to my mother after her mother died when my sister was a month old, but she didn't realise her supply would bounce back and gave up bf).

Scorpio says "err yeah right" to sex,,, should we get this thread transferred to "In the news"?

TLSM · 23/04/2008 14:30

bless her she has just had a baby she will be back on the saddle by the weekend no doubt

chipmonkey · 23/04/2008 15:13

congratulations, Ellie! Love the name!
So much for maternity leave! Had to go to solicitor this morning, then in to work!!! to get my boss to sign a salary cert, after popping in yesterday to finish up some paperwork.
Woke up this morning to repeated contractions at irregular intervals, deffo not like labour but seemed like a little more than Braxton Hicks. So not so sure at all I will last the week till my planned CS! And you know what? Rather than look forward to delivering early, all I keep thinking is that the private ward I am supposed to be going into could be closed for refurbishment till the end of this week so if I can hold off till next week I will get a nicer room! But I will have to have a CS anyway and will have to stay in for 5 days so would prefer if I could stay somewhere I might get some sleep! At least if I get my own room, it will only be my baby waking me up, not everyone elses as well!
Funny enough Peachy, I was supposed to get a tubal ligation this time but dh and my 2 SILs have talked me out of it! They managed to plant a seed of doubt in my mind so even though medically and logistically it makes sense to stop at 4, I'm not going ahead as I think you need to be 100% sure and now I'm not!

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 23/04/2008 15:39

Mternity leave?

They had me in Uni last week, wanted explanations as to why I wasn't there on the 7th (day he was born!) and i've done 3000 words of dissertation this week....

I tell ya, add in baby care and FT employment was simpler LOL

scorpio1 · 23/04/2008 16:06

Peachy - at your uni...mine have given me extenuating circumstances and i dont have to hand anything in until august.

NO i am not having sex this weekend. maybe next weekend

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 23/04/2008 16:14

They don't do extenuationg, full stop- if you're late you can put in an appeal for an extension but it tkaes all manner of letters from professionals etc, and they charge (HCPs not Uni!) £10 per letter (though my MW got me one for free for one essay)

Am now at HV, as the leafelt she gave me about sterilising wasn't about sterilising at all- bar one line reading 'sterilise to manafacturers instructions'- its about bottle feeding. Grrrr. Is she on commission or summat? I must bottlefeed to compensate for my shite milk?

northeastmummy · 23/04/2008 16:19

Scorpio - you are amazing !

Peachy - I can't believe your uni. Were they suitably embarrassed when you explained? I definitely think it's easier to have a baby when working than when studying. In fact, I think uni's should have to give some form of maternity leave - that makes much more sense.

TLSM - good news about your pain killers. I hope they help you get some rest!

Well, I went for lunch with a friend and could hardly focus on the chat because of all the twinges and pains in my belly. I now feel completely exhausted and have eaten the majority of a chocolate orange - oops!!

scorpio1 · 23/04/2008 16:22

why are they pushing bottles on you?

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 23/04/2008 16:33

Think its because others had weight gain issues, but ds4 is fine and healthy (dont know what his weight is but seems chunky and chubby), she's coming here to weigh him Wednesday and MW on Friday too, so a bit of the old overkill! Never mind, once upon a time I'd have found it intimidating, these days I just do it my own way and ignore them all.

Not even certain mind that it was personal- probably what she does to all mums.

Should pint out that this HV has a history of being useless. When DS3 failed his developmentals she refused to refer him to SALT as she 'knew he could do it if he wanted'- i think that cost him a delay of 18 months in waiting list time and for getting help.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 23/04/2008 16:36

hello hello - still here with no baby yet! I predict 1 May for myself personally!

Sorry to all those who are now overdue - sending 'go into labour now' vibes your way!

Congratulations to Ellie!! Can't wait to hear all about little Molly!

Peachy and Scorpio - can't get over the cheek of your dr's/HV's - hope you tell them to get stuffed!!

I've just had my mum over - she has just made some black out blinds for the nursery - well not really blinds, but covers - you velcro them on and off. So Roo will have a nice dark bedroom now - just in time for summer - if that ever happens! I'm now worried I don't have enough warm clothes for Roo!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 23/04/2008 16:37

BTW Scorpio - Milie is gorgeous!! The one of her BFing just minutes after birth made me weep a little - so sweet!

DonDons · 23/04/2008 16:40

Peachy am at your HV - sounds like a right head case

Scorpio - you are mental - stop showing off with your 23 year old pristine fanjo

Lovely sunny day here in Sheffield...no isng of baby though. Hospital tomorrow for induction plan etc. Do sweeps ever accidentally break your waters??

VictorianSqualor · 23/04/2008 16:42

I thought you couldnt have sex for 6 weeks after vaginal birth?

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 23/04/2008 16:44

They say that VS but really once bleedimng stops and if you feel OK...

never waited that long before

However, 4 dc's and a DH on permanent nights is the best form of contraception available I suspect LOL

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 23/04/2008 16:46

BTW

text from Ellie-

after a shaky start baby feeding well

so suck on that MW's LOL

Go Ellie!

VictorianSqualor · 23/04/2008 16:48

Ah, I'd love to but I reckon my scar might split and I'd be left in a pool of blood on the bed

GO ELLIE!!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 23/04/2008 16:54

Yay - v. pleased for Ellie!!

Bainmarie · 23/04/2008 16:55

Congratulation Ellie!
Am still waiting, only today and tomorrow to go before induction, I am not feeling hopefull.

northeastmummy · 23/04/2008 16:55

Eeeeewww VS - what a thought!

Thank goodness Ellie didn't listen - go girl!!

Ouch, there goes that knitting needle again.

Denny185 · 23/04/2008 17:20

i think i naturally double my calorific intake - but not intentionally just greed - dont think Ill be fitting in my clothes any time soon

Talking of sex, went shopping today and cant believe the price of 'rubber wellies', good job DH is having the snip.

PortAndLemon · 23/04/2008 17:37

Can't you get them free from Family Planning Centres? Or was that just in my youth? [out of date emoticon]

moominsmummy · 23/04/2008 17:57

well done ellie!

minor panic here - if a girl little one will be called Abigail and we are happy to shorten it most of the time - but do we spell it

Abi
Abbey
or
Abby?

arghhhhhhhh!!!!! thought we'd got over the naming issue! opinions please!

moominsmummy · 23/04/2008 17:58

or Abbi?

(forgot that one)

ThePFJ · 23/04/2008 18:08

Cant believe what happened today...

The health visitor came round for the first time this morning and all was well.. she said Jack looked fine etc.. etc. until she got to weighing him. The weight was great, but she found two little blemish marks on his leg/top left thigh which I had noticed that morning for the first time myself, but had decided to just keep an eye on because they looked harmless.

The health worker went barmy over them and started asking me and my partner if we had hurt Jack or held him too hard. She said they looked like finger marks and said babies dont feel pain the way we do so it was likely we had hurt Jaack without knowing it.

She asked the doctors surgery to make an appointment for us and then after she left she rang an hour later insisting we take Jack to A&E. At this point I was so worried and my DP was out of his mind with tears, thinking she was going to take Jack from us.

She said Jack would probably need xrays etc.etc.
So in floods of tears we went down to the hospital, feeling guilty and confused.

Long story short.. -too late- A&E doctors thought the health visitor was fretting over nothing as the marks didnt look like bruises, Jack was fantastically healthy and good looking and guess what? Yeap.. THEY WERE JUST BLEMISHES.

-swears alot-

Hospital said to keep an eye on Jack but we were not to worry.

.<

-goes BONKERS-

Can you imagine how I felt as a first time mum???? I am not sure if I want to see the Health visitor again now But she is coming again Monday. My DP is not best pleased either.
