I don't iron my pillowcases but DH does?! WTF? I just let him get on with it...

I leave work on 16 May! 14 weeks before my due date... SLACKER! 3 weeks and counting. Can't wait.

Buckets · 24/04/2008 13:38

Libbyssister, thanks for that suggestion, there's a gorgeous one here I fancy could work with a bump for me. Will take a cushion to my local shop and try it on!
Have given in and decided I do NEED a Phil&Teds after all, instead of a travel system. Have to accept that DS is highly unlikely to be co-operative walking on the schoolrun come September and therefore would never be able to use the carseat on the pushchair anyway. Plus, am getting sole use of the car back now (my mum's giving hers to DH when she upgrades) so won't be cadging lifts of people anymore.
So, what are we talking, about £200 for a 2nd hand P&T plus £80 for a new infant carseat? That's about double the cost of the travel system I'd fancied but hey ho!

Poppysocks, don't think your DP has thought about the difference between being SAHP to 1 small child (doddle) vs 2 small children (aaaargh!). Might want to remind him of that.

libbyssister · 24/04/2008 13:41

Forgot to say. Had a dream the other night where my unborn DS's name came to me in a flash....

....MAURICE!

Good God!

My unconscious mind is obviously taking the piss...

libbyssister · 24/04/2008 14:38

Slowly getting through it all...

Oooh Petitf, Marcham! S'on my way home from work and you'll be living at Millets Farm with two/three LOs. Is DH based at Dalton then?

Hope the move went well and you're settling into sunny S.Oxfordshire [wave]

Shazza2002 · 24/04/2008 16:13

Afternoon ladies.

Been shopping this afternoon and it's absolutly knackered me out.

Went to Blooming Marvellous as they had some nice linen trousers on website. Got there and bought black and white pair, but they were £34.99 each which I think is expensive but as I'm going on holiday next Saturday I sort of got in a panic and knew I had to buy them. Anyway, went into good old New Look and what do you know, trousers just as good but only £16 each!! So I managed to get black pair, white pair, a lovely top for wedding and 2 vest tops for same money. Only problem is now I have to go half and hour on Saturday to take the trousers back to Blooming Marvellous. But it's sods law. Had I not bought the exspensive ones I wouldn't have found the cheap ones.

Anyway, enough of me rambling.

Hope everybody else is ok.

I plan to finish work on 11th July. But like somebody else said (can't remember who) it's not the work that's bothering me it's the commute, and I only have a 15 minute tube journey

dizzy Take care of yourself and your mum, hope everything isn't as bad as it can sometimes seem xx

Hello all,

The weather here is totally schizophrenic - rain/cold/sun/stuffy heat/gusting winds/more rain - makes dressing appropriately a nightmare. I hope the sun holds over the weekend, we're going to the Peaks as it's the anniversary of my brother's death on Saturday (a year already ) so would be nice to hike about in the warm. Although I do quite like a long muddy walk followed by a lovely hot shower and clean clothes.

I'm really starting to notice the extra weight and strain of carting the bump around - not massively, but before it didn't really register, whereas now I am tiring easier, overbalancing more, feeling the bump pull to one side in bed (which makes me sound like a Bactrian camel, but ykwim). It's quite exciting really. Squidboy has given me several thumps and kicks today. I think he enjoyed the grapes I ate at lunch

Got a place on some NCT classes as well, although not ones particularly specific to my due date as they're all full. Am v happy though, feel like I'm actually doing something instead of drifting about in a big disorganised cloud! Need to sort out my maternity leave as well - I haven't even read my work's policy properly yet . All being well, I'd like to leave as early as possible (early or mid-July); I've got some annual leave that I can use as well, which will bump things up.

dizzy hope things are okay with your mum and that you're all supporting each other - give her MN's collective best xxx

is anyone else finding it hard to get clothes to fit?? i bought a pair of jeans from blooming marvelous on line, size 10 and even when i pull it to its tightest they are still too big...

Normal size 12 fit for about an hour and then keep sliding down but size 10s are just too snug.. i seem to be living in one pair of combats and tracksuit bottoms!!!

CaptainCaveman · 24/04/2008 17:09

Hi SArah, welcome back! Yes to clothes issues - and it changes everyday! I think I will purchase a mui-mui (or however you spell it - tent like dress) and be done with it.

Am currently feeling like a FREAK because of admission to ironing pillow cases. However, we all have our crosses to bear. Perhaps TS could put a special asterix next to mine and dizzy's names to denote we are special .

On another subject - how often do you clean your kitchen floor? Only, I think I might have stuck briefly to mine this morning which reminded me - I cannot remember WHEN I last cleaned it.....

CaptainCaveman · 24/04/2008 17:11

Maurice libbys now there's a nice name. It complements Jerry perfectly (ds reckons ds2 will be called Jerry)

CaptainCaveman · 24/04/2008 17:12

I'm going home. I guess I 'll be back around 9pm. Please don't discuss my pillow case ironing affliction whilst I'm gone.......

alittlebitshy · 24/04/2008 18:21

I've got a similar prob with blooming marvellous jeans. they're over the bump onces, but lately have been working their way down to under the bump, so I either have to hitch them up, keep one hand on them to stop them sliding or wait til they've slid and do a massive haul up!!

Cc I was going to ask some cleaning qsts today actually. I was wondering how often you guys all do various bits of cleaning.... Re your kitchen floor question, I aim for once a week, sometimes it gets done twice, but when I had bad bad m/s I think it got done whenever my mum came up and i could ask her to do it - so not that often .

LadyOfWaffle · 24/04/2008 18:27

Evening all! Just checking in before I put (a hopefully asleep) DS to bed. Just skimmed v.v. quickly - I hope you have noted my name is also Sarah We need a Sarah tally!

Quicky Q - anyone in maternity trousers that fit fine, but keep falling down? I actually went down a size when I bought mine (wooop!) but they do not stay up for love nor money, not even belt loops to force them up Apart from that they fit so well - is that common to wide banded mat. trousers? They are from mothercare - neither over or under, just a big black band at the top.

I'll be back in a abit to read through at least today - I feel very rude just flitting in & out all the time, but have tons of woodchip wallpaper to strip before Saturday.

xxxxx

LadyOfWaffle · 24/04/2008 18:28

Oooh, all these trousers problems - maybe we should all buy some dungarees

Think braces could be the way forward for us lot? Kinda Annie Hall I suppose.

My nrly 5yr old Mclaren Vogue pushchair finally got something wrong with it today - one of the wheels sheared off! My dad has already fixed it in record time with an engineer-style modification (ie indestructible but in no way aesthetically-pleasing.) Would recommend the model but they don't make it anymore!

Kitchen floor - mine is generally crunchy/squishy underfoot, gets swept by DH about once a month or by me if I am hosting a meeting. Scrubbed it once (in 6' stages - took me a week as it's huge) and half-arsedly washed it once in the two years we've lived here.

miamla · 24/04/2008 18:47

LoW my pregnant friend lives in her dungarees. problem is that she did before she was pregnant and has worn them since she was 15 (a clear 17 years ago!)
so yes, i do tease her endlessly and have found a pair for me to wear on saturday when i see her!

miamla · 24/04/2008 18:48

buckets was that a cunning plan to get a new pushchair foiled by your dad?

Buckets · 24/04/2008 19:29

Heheh, nah, will put the current one away for future reference as I do love it. It folds down one-handed and fits in a tiny boot, turns on a dime and weighs about half as much as a P&T whilst still being tall enough for my 5'11" (in heels). Fingers crossed DS will be out of a pushchair by the time he starts Reception next year so I'll be able to sell the P&T on.

Confession: I did have a set of shortie dungarees in multi tiedye patchwork back in the early 90s . Worn with fishnet stockings and Doc Martens, natch. Never again (the dungies I mean, am looking for some old skool Docs on Ebay as we speak!)

TwilightSurfer · 24/04/2008 19:46

Hi!

Floor mopping is a random act in my house. Although I am happy to admit I mopped and hand-dried every hard-floor surface in my house last week.

No maternity trouser problems here because haven't bought any yet. Stuck in yoga pants and tennis skirts these days which is a normal look for me anyway. Since I've waited this long, I probably won't purchase any maternity wear at all. I've got a few moo-moo type dresses, plenty of exercise wear (elastic waist), bathing suits, and stretchy waist skirts to last the remaining....fifteen weeks.

Today DH, DD & I all sound like death. Appears our allergies (which haven't been much of a problem) have caused us all to develope a chest cold with a cough from HELL. Oh, and it's struck me the worst. So even though it is another BEAUTIFUL day I have kept all the doors and windows closed with DD and I locked safetly inside eating and drinking loads of liquidy good cold fighting stuff. DH had to go to work...poor him. DD & I, i think, sound better this afternoon.
