poppysocks · 21/04/2008 22:38

X-post with you Dizzy on the Thomas the Tank Engine names!

dizzydixies · 21/04/2008 22:41

poppy

phoebe was what dh wanted for dd2 but I knew a girl at work who had just had one so i didn't want to use it for that reason

is means radiant and shining which is lovely

lexie means sparkling in scottish which is very similar

poppysocks · 21/04/2008 22:42

I'm off to bed now. Thank you Ladies for all your cheering chat! Feeling much better.

poppysocks · 21/04/2008 22:43

One last post...

Are you thinking of Phoebe this time Dizzy? (if you have a girl!)

dizzydixies · 21/04/2008 22:44

I still like it poppy but have I backed myself into a corner with the shortened long names ifswim?

am glad we helped, remember the offer of mindless violence towards your boss is only ever 11 miles away if you need it

sleep well

night sazzles, am off too now dh has made the bed

will let you know my decision from WHSMITHS tomorrow

take care

miamla · 21/04/2008 23:15

oh : (
i finally get on here and everyone's having an early night!

Poppy... my number one girl's name was/is Amelia (amelie works equally well) and i think it would be lovely with Elizabeth as a middle name

thanks for your suggests Dizz, I'm about to have a slower look through them all now

our criteria is:

  • can't start with H because of surname
  • prefer a long name that can be shortened to cute nickname
  • i personally like really traditional "old men" names. DP not so sure but i'm working on him
  • any welsh connections would win us a million brownie points with DPs family but this isn't essential

thanks for your lovely comments about the photos. we're so pleased with them. just spent half an hour watching the dvd of him kicking and stretching, its truly amazing! seems a very frivoulous thing to be spending money on at the moment (esp with our imminient house move) but wow!

when my brother looked at the photos he asked about his nose "i hope he grows into it?!
Bloody cheek! that's my beautiful boy he's talking about!!

well given that you all seem to have gone to bed, I guess I should take that as a hint to head that way myself. good night all and i hope the sun is shining for you all in the morning and that all the feelings of being down are hidden at the back of the cupboard

TwilightSurfer · 22/04/2008 01:10

Sorry, I disappeared. DH called and chatted with DD....together they decided we were going out for dinner. Everything they wanted I had in the kitchen but OH WELL.

Now we're all out on the front porch. DD is dancing to my iTunes collection while I read the thread...a fourth time.

Miamla I LOVE YOUR PICS and would love to be able to see the video. I should check to see I a video is offered at my 3D/4D thingie. That may justify the expense.

Sazzle you and Dizzy are name FREAKS. I'm still holding on to Maggie Ethelyn. Nothing else has grabbed me lately. DH hasn't come up with any either. I'm still keeping my eye out. That's why I typically just sit back and lurk while ya'll discuss names.

IT IS SOOOOO NICE HERE TODAY!! Being outside is such a mood lifter. Sleep tight and I'll check you chicas out in a few hours.

Lol Sazzles!! I love it - "night night".
Yesterday I went in to tell dd I was getting in the shower (Monday is Dh's lie in day so I didn't want her yelling him out of bed). I knew she was awake, but only just, and when I went in she sat bolt upright looking very confused at the intrusion!!

Dizzy you are name expert extrordinaire!!! Have you swallowed a baby name book at some stage ? .

I'm too scared to discuss my names on here. Why???? Dunno............. We have ideas. We have dcided that we're going to get down to a short list or 2-3 for a girl and the same for a boy, then let dd choose from that list. We like the idea of her having SOME input but no way would i let her choose randomly. It also saves us having to do battle over which to choose in the end. It was easy with DD - her name was one we both always liked. No question (though the boy issue was one that wasn't yet resolved by birth so thank goodness she was a girl).

My first DH less night was fine. DD woke once in the night demanding her covers to be straightened (apparently that counts as an emergency ) but apart from that I had a lovely sleep. Was in bed at 9 reading. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Loving miamla's pics. He's gorgeous. Your brother's comment on the nose reminds me of dd's (bog standard) 20 week scan. To me the nose loooked huuuuge and I was convinced she'd come out with a whopping great hooter. But she had a perfect baby nose, and even now it is cute and compact

Need to get my eyebrows waxed today. Starting to resemble small furry creature.....

Buckets · 22/04/2008 09:38

Re noses, I wouldn't worry about it. DD was born with her nose somewhere up between her eyes apparently (I wasn't really there you see) but in a few hours all you could notice was one of her nostrils was slightly bigger. Again, gone in 24hrs and she was still the prettiest baby in the room - will see if I can post a pic to prove it.
The boys' names I am currently getting nowhere convincing DH about are: Howard, Seth, Soren, Phineas and Nico.

Shazza2002 · 22/04/2008 10:48

Morning ladies

I missed all the talk on baby names. Well I have decided Lexie for a girl, and that's about it. Keep forgetting about Freya, really like that too. DP doesn't like either of those so that's where we're at with girls names at the mo.

Boys names are equally as difficult. I love Charlie and Owen. DP wants Billy (after himself). It's weird I wouldn't have a problem calling baby Billy if it wasn't DP's name. Does that seem silly?

Keeping very busy today with biscuit wars at work. Seriously it would make you ROFL.

Shazza2002 · 22/04/2008 10:50

Don't mention the noses!!! All I can say is DP must have been at the front of the queue when they handed them out as he has more than his fair share I prayed when I was PG with DD that she didn't have his nose, luckily she just got his lovely green eyes instead (did I just pay a compliment about DP, must be feeling under the weather). I have the same phobia with this one now

cyteen · 22/04/2008 11:40

Hello ladies and beans! I'm feeling a bit more dynamic and a lot less self-pitying, you'll be pleased to hear...even woke up with my libido back from its holiday and raring to get acquainted with DP again so things are looking up. Have done a bit of work on my Pepys essay this morning, before I have to go into work for 3 hours of PRINCE2 training I will have to vacuum myself before I go; the cats are in full spring moult and the whole house looks like the bottom of an old lady's handbag.

miamla glad to hear your 4D scan was so awesome. Have you taken the pictures off your profile? I went to have a nosy but couldn't find anything.

poppysocks MASSIVE HUGS, hope you're feeling cheerier again today. It's crap feeling sad and gloomy, we all seem to be riding a wave of it now and again. It's been interesting following the name debate though - I think Charlotte Elizabeth sounds lovely and goes well with Madeleine. How about Romilly? Turns into Milly if you want it to and fits with Elizabeth as well, although I agree that Milly and Maddy can sound a bit pink.

dizzy - applause! And not just for your forthcoming designer vagina That's some serious name work you've put in there. I think my problem with boys' names is that I just don't like most of them, or can't see them on my own child - I like certain specific things but not most others that go in the same bracket, iyswim. So from your list:

christopher - chris or kit - like Kit but it won't go with surnames, also not keen on Chris/topher/tian
Oliver - love it but my friend has nicked it already!
daniel, david, pete/r - too many around
john - evil toxic grandad's name, shudder
jack - don't like, also DP's half-brother's name
james - quite like this but sounds weird with surnames, also have a friend who will INSIST that we have named the baby after him no matter how much we demur
william - will - like both of these, will shortlist
tristan, connor, euan - don't like
callum - we both love it but it sounds stupid with our surnames (hmm, starting to regret this double barrelling idea)
joseph, jacob, caleb - quite like all of these
benjamin - DP has vetoed, is his best mate's name
reuben, albert, archie, barnaby, gregor/y, evan, brandon, ethan, noah joshua, curtis - not my bag

On the back of another thread I suggested Vincent yesterday; DP was a bit but I think there's room to work on him if need be..I quite like it at the moment.

Sorry, I know I'm a complete nightmare fusspot! Why aren't we having a girl, girls are SO much easier

PetitFilou1 · 22/04/2008 11:57

It has gone name-tastic on here!

Cyteen - what about Cameron? Glad to see you like both ds1's names!

Miamla - think it was you - isn't Sean the Irish version of John not James?? It is my best male friend's name. Incidentally he has two sons with unusual names - Oistin and Jonty which someone may like!

PetitFilou1 · 22/04/2008 11:58

Btw anyone considering Amelie - there are a lot of them about round here - to bear in mind... but might be more of a rarity where you are.

miamla · 22/04/2008 12:01

cyteen yeah, sorry, took pics down as i realised they had ALL my details on the top ie full name, date of birth etc etc Not a good idea on a public forum!! i've cropped them so you should be ok to have a nose now

please let me know if you can't, i'm not convinced i've uploaded them correctly!

and the problem with noses in my family and DPs is that they are all pretty huge! apart from my cute button nosed sister but then we reckon she was adopted! (long running in-family joke...she was the youngest of 4. loads of photos for the oldest 3 but hardly any of her. mum reckons she was too busy with 4 children under the age of 5 to take photos. but we still tease sis!)

miamla · 22/04/2008 12:06

petit nope, Sean isn't on my list

my friend had a good idea for naming our child. Put all our friends' names in a hat and just pull out one at random. friend would be chuffed we'd named baby after him and our name conudrum would be solved!

i'm not convinced! i suggested he save the "good idea" he had until he has his own child!

CaptainCaveman · 22/04/2008 12:20

Cor this thread moves quickly!!

Thomas is a wonderful name (ds is a Thomas or Tom for short) . Middle name Luke.
He has decided his brother will be called Jerry (as in Tom & Jerry). Clearly, we won't be calling our son Jerry but there's no telling ds that at the moment!

If I had been a boy I would have been called Alastair......quite glad I'm a girl actually, however dull Emma Jane might be!

Feeling better today after a reasonable nights sleep last night. Never did the ironing but sod it, that will keep til another time .

Mini CC has just woken up and is having a little dance in my belly - ahhh, what a nice sensation. I'm off out to get some lunch and fresh air. Undoubtedly will catch you all later this evening. All this talk of vaginas and porn mags is too much for poor innocent me

PetitFilou1 · 22/04/2008 12:28

Sorry Miamla I'm speedreading! Not sure who it was then.....

Yet another person has asked me 'how long have you got to go' and looked shocked when I said 4 months! Oh dear. I really don't think I look that big! My team assistant says I don't look pregnant from the back though so all is not lost...

Moving today - libbysister I will reveal -to Marcham

miamla · 22/04/2008 12:42

worry not petit, i find it really hard to keep track of who's who on here and what everyone's up to!

I'm not for one moment trying to steal any crowns from Dizzy but to those of you having a girl...what about Jasmine? such a pretty name (i've just been going through the phone list at work!)

miamla · 22/04/2008 12:43

just realised... petit you're moving today and you're on here?!! how are you managing that?! you must be insanely organised and have everything packed already!

Buckets · 22/04/2008 12:45

Poppysocks - Lots of Emily soundalikes as mentioned: Amelie, Romilly, Annelise, Emmeline (think Pankhurst girlpower!)

Seamus is Irish for James isn't it? Can't remember who asked.

Can't stop my DS shouting 'Extra!' today, he's rather taken with that Dolmio advert.

PetitFilou1 · 22/04/2008 12:50

miamla I've been banished to work while dh oversees the packers (one of the perks of being married to someone in the forces is that people pack for you) and dcs are in nursery. But dh IS insanely organised - I'm not!
