DUE AUGUST 2008 NEW THREAD!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks Dizzy. This is cheering me up.

I would like a name that goes with DD's, (Madeleine/Maddy), but don't need it to be perfect. Surname is quite harsh when said with an English/Scottish accent, but not too problematic. Just has a double ll in the middle which can be annoying.

Like the idea of a name that can be shortened (like DD's), and one that works in French (DH's family), but neither needs to be perfect.

Issue for me is that we're using Elizabeth as a middle name. Finding that it's cutting out quite a few names that are quite traditional, as it makes it all sound rather staid (e.g. Anna, Alice, Sarah, Martha, Charlotte).

Love all flowery names, but DH has vetoed.
Grr. Also celtic names as neither of us are particularly celtic.

Love your suggestions.

Alexandra is on the shortlist, but not sure which shortened form we'd use.
Isabelle/a - my fave, but DH vetoed for no good reason. Anyway, my sis wants it for hers so happy with that.
Olivia - neice's name.
Anything that can be shortened to Milly - lots that I like - would just sound rather twee with Maddy...
Love Tess, but problem with Theresa (see Elizabeth). Wondering whether this could be a goer as just Tess?
Considered Eve for DD, but now know several girls with similar names.

The classic names are fab but we have probs with most of them.
Emily - our fave by far, but the name of my sister that I don't think my Dad's happy for us to use.
Sophie - would work really well, but DD's middle name is Sophia.
Lucy - SIL's name, so confusion...
So many others just sound rather too conventional when tied to Elizabeth. Rather like Constance (Connie) too, but same goes there.

Starting to feel that Georgia could be ok. What do you think?

Thank you so much for your thoughts Dizzy. Has def. helped me to snap out of my silly gloom and concentrate on this lovely little girl I'm baking.

sazzles will be right down WHSMITHS tomorrow demanding their best smut and making dh choose one lol

poppy am so pleased this is cheering you up

I like Georgia, dh loves it as the girl on CSI has it but as Jorja!

I am of course biased towards Isabella and Alexandra!! Mine are Ella and Lexie

so if you like Eve have you considered Ava

I think elizabeth lends itself to a lot of names, you're maybe worrying about it a bit too much

charlotte elizabeth is nice - you could use charlie or lottie - both lovely with maddy

I think amelie is lovely and very giving to the french connection - will have to have a think about the Maddy and Millie thing though

its good to get some feedback as gives me more food for thought, maybe tomorrow during working hours though as beginning to flag slightly

poppysocks · 21/04/2008 22:02

Oh no! . So sorry Sazzles. I know another one too who is lovely. Familiar rather than traditional!

poppysocks · 21/04/2008 22:04

So sorry to anyone/everyone else that I've offended....

dizzydixies · 21/04/2008 22:06

sweetie its a no holds barred names convo - if we all liked the same we'd have mighty confusing class rooms!

sazzles pull youself together woman lol

I hated mine as well which is probably why am so obsessed with making right decision

I know a few people have asked me what am considering for mine and am NOT being secritive I promise, I just keep forgetting to answer

we still have all our boys options from dd1 and dd2 which were

corin
Caleb
Reuben
Roan and rudy

girls, not so easy

I think I have backed myself into a corner having 2 long names and using shortened versions alongside 2 family middle names. I don't know whether to throw caution to the wind and use something we just plain like or if it IS another girl will she be annoyed that she doesn't have option of long name if she wants it too

I have been accused of overthinking things - can you believe it?!?!

I've tried three times to read through today's posts but DD keeps interrupting me. Thought it might be helpful for CSec/VBAC info to be added to list since that's a big issue with a lot of you. I almost had an a CSec with DD but gradually became more confident about giving birth...and she didn't pose any problems at the end afterall.

evening TS

sazzles freya very pretty, also like phoebe which is in a similar vein, or Maia or Maya

if you're meaning isadora for me, its too close to Isabella which is my dd1 - I do agree it goes well with poppy's dd though

Ooooh, baby names! Whoever is toying with Sarah- go for it

I had Xavier down last time, I thought it was really unusual (without being celeb type weirdy) then when I came to MN I swear it's been on everyones boys lists!

I have a James (he was going to be Mongomery (sp?) for a while (only because I liked Monty) then when he was born I thought it was abit naff) and Grace was picked last time (when James was a girl in the womb!) so we will more than likely have Grace this time if it's a girl, and both of us really love Thomas for a boy so we haven't even discussed baby names. The only thing is, I have only just realised after DS has been watching it, there is a Thomas and a James in Thomas the tank engine and it might sound abit odd having a Thomas and a James. Waffling on again...!

Oooh, Maimla you have Theodore down, I love that name! Would definatly be in my top 3 if it wasn't DSs middle name - along with Patrick which is another of his middle names! Then I like Sean, but it's the Irish version of James so that seems abit silly...

LadyOfWaffle · 21/04/2008 22:33

I love Freya. I had a friend called Freya, and I hadn't heard it before or since... until I came to MN that is!

dizzydixies · 21/04/2008 22:33

two Sarahs!!

lol lofW we liked grace but very quickly relised that any daughter of mine was never going to be graceful, esp being born weightin 10lb4!!!

wouldn't worry one bit about thomas and James

lovely classic combo and if you ruled it out just because of TtheTE then you'd have to chuck out a load more too and i think the series uses up nearly every boys name ever lol

TS have you had any more thoughts?

poppysocks · 21/04/2008 22:36

Sazzles - we must be on the same wavelength here. Freya was on our short list last time too. Haven't considered it this time though as know another one.

Dizzy - I do love Phoebe and Maya and Mila and those sorts of names. Sadly DH doesn't and is being v. obstinate. Despite saying just after we'd registered DD's name 'why didn't we think of Phoebe, that would have been much better'.

Think Corin and Roan are great. Esp. that spelling of Roan. Unusual, but not so unknown that no-one will have heard of them.

LoW - if this is a boy, it will be Tom. Great name. Really wouldn't worry about the tank engine connection. There seems to be an engine of virtually every standard boys' name!
