Oh, I'm and very - a woman i know locally has had her baby and she wasnt due until Sunday ...but she had a CS (her 2nd) so i guess it was elective.

But still she has a baby, lol!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 10/04/2008 10:35

Morning all... I was actually wondering about the whole milk coming in thing myself as I am another who has seen no sign of it yet and I am beginning to wonder if I will ever fit into my big nursing bras as my boobs are still tiny! A friend of mine is a breastfeeding consultant and she gave me some reading on the subject - mainly of mastitis and engorgement - reading all that was almost enough to put me off! I have bought a breast pump for expressing so I can give DH a go at feeding baby, but looking at the pump the other day I just felt overwelmed - is it easy to express? I have read up about it, but it all seems so unreal - I guess it is because I just don't know what to expect and I'm sure I will get the hang of it when the time comes. In my birth plan I have stated that I want baby on the boob as soon as, and help would be appreciated - so fingers crossed it all goes well.

Sorry - didn't mean to go on about this - lol...

moominsmummy · 10/04/2008 10:36

am off to an NCT coffee morning thing to get to know some other people round here

see you all later!

Enjoy!

northeastmummy · 10/04/2008 10:42

Oooooo - must go and find VS on the other thread. That's very very exciting.

I've put a bump pic on my thread. Better late than never .

I've come to the conclusion that induction is very like labour - variable and different for everyone. There also doesn't seem to be a set format - it all depends how far on you are. I was induced with DD but all they did was break my waters and put me on the drip. It was all fine and I would do it again if I had to.

I did hear of someone recently whose baby didn't engage. From what I remember they tried induction but the little might still wouldn't cooperate so she ended up with a section. I think it's pretty rare though.

northeastmummy · 10/04/2008 10:43

I mean a pic on my profile - and I've just checked and it hasn't worked so I'll try again.

chipmonkey · 10/04/2008 10:45

M2bBR, I have been pregnant 4 times and this time is the only time I have ever leaked milk! Not sure why except that I bfed ds3 for 2.8 years and got pg within 2 months of stopping. But with all of them, the milk was there when required. Most people only produce a tiny bit of colostrum for the first few days and then the real deal comes in after about 3 days and you will know all about it then!

Re expressing, it's normally not recommended for the first 6 weeks as it can stimulate oversupply while you are getting established but tbh I don't think I ever followed that advice. If it's just to get a dh/dp "involved" I'd say it's not worth the hassle! Get them to bath the baby or change nappies instead, rather than faffing with a pump and steriliser when you have the milk on tap! But if you want some unbroken sleep one night, that's a different reason and might be worth it.

I never had much trouble expressing but I know friends who never managed to express a drop and still bfed successfully.

On a general note btw, one thing to remember is that the amount you get out with a pump is no indicator of how much the baby is getting when bfing. Babies are much more efficient than pumps and much better at getting the milk so even if you can only express an ounce, that doesn't mean the baby only gets the same amount when feeding.

northeastmummy · 10/04/2008 10:46

Ah - that's it there now.

TheMaskedPoster · 10/04/2008 10:51

morning all!

I see you Northeastmummy! looking FAB!

Am going to have a go at expressing this morning (DD2 had me up all night - not cos she was awake, but because she makes the most bizaare noises in her sleep. I haven't adjusted yet ... AND she had a windy belly by the looks so a lot of the noises sounded distressed - tho she was asleep, typical!)

I did express a little bit with DD1 - but in the end, just BF myself all the way through. This time however, I have things I need to go out and about for and don't want to have to take DD2 with me if need be.

Right, am off to hunt down VS's other thread to see what is what.

xTMP

northeastmummy · 10/04/2008 10:55

Did you find it TMP - it's VERY exciting!

Thanks for your lovely comment - I just wished somebody would have said that to me yesterday when I got in the lift at the shopping centre and it said "this lift is overloaded"!! Yikes!!! I quickly ran off and went down the stairs

I forgot how noisy babies are at night ... yawn ...

TheMaskedPoster · 10/04/2008 10:58

LOL - re the lift scenario, same thing happened to me near the end of my Pregnancy. But I wasn't the last one to get in the lift so refused to believe it was me. ARF . DH however piped up (once the last person had got off) that it was obviously down to me ...

Soph73 · 10/04/2008 10:58

Morning all.
Congrats, Sheds, BR & Honeybee
Well, I have now finished work so am very happy & relaxed this morning. Went to the MW yesterday & I´ve actually lost 1kg (not sure how though) so she was a happy bunny Which means in 8 months I´ve only gained 8kgs, which for me is amazing (it was double that with DS1 )

I now have all these good intentions to spend my time doing housework & making everything look lovely before Sam arrives but in reality I know I´m going to sit at home watching crappy telly & eating chocolate I´ve never really got the hand of this nesting instince malarkey Anyway the weather here has warmed up so my ankles now look like they belong to an elephant so that´s a good excuse to sit with my feet up

egyptianprincess · 10/04/2008 11:00

hi everyone
sheds, so glad youre at home and doing well now. VS- i really hope this is it for you..
i had a midwife's appointment yesterday at 40+1 and she offered to do a sweep without me having to beg for one..wasnt nearly as bad as i thought. then had a curry for dinner and forced dh to have sex with me..result was had severe back and leg pains all night and couldnt sleep. also had very minor cramps, more like pressure around the pelvis and a little bit of light pink show..just woke up now and still very very light cramps but leg pain better as i took paracetemol..could this be the beginning? also had a consultant's appointment yesterday and he suggested that i book in for an induction next thursday (EDD+10). I really want to avoid this as i really want to have my water birth!

northeastmummy · 10/04/2008 11:00

Wow Soph - that's brilliant only gaining 8kg! I have the same problem with nesting. I have so much I should be doing, but instead I just spend my time on here and watching TV.

Scampmum · 10/04/2008 11:04

Morning all! Feeling a bit crampy here this morning, only 37+6 but do feel it's getting closer.

NEM you look fab and much younger than 35 if I may say so. Plus your DS is gorgeous.

Don't worry about expressing, I think everything about bfing seems a bit weird in principle (even when you've done it before) but you'll be amazed how natural it all feels after a while. And hassle-free compared to formula! I went to a wedding when DD was 5 1/2 weeks old and she took expressed milk so I must have been expressing for a bit before that to build up three feeds' worth - I could only get 1oz or so per express for the first few times. Think my all-time record was 9 (from one boob!), though!

Oh, and I bf for 9 months and haven't leaked at all this time, though I have had colostrum-coated nips (TMI? is there such a thing any more?) for a few months.

SuzeM - wanted to say yesterday (and forgot) you keep going with those lie-ins! In a few weeks' time you'll really wonder why you forced yourself to get up when you didn't actually have to if you don't... DH took DD to nursery this am and I stayed in bed until nearly 10 - bliss!

ToastAddict · 10/04/2008 11:07

Morning all
Just been to see m/w, all fine, next appointment is 2 days after my due date Still don't think it will really happen [denial emoticon]
My boobs leaked for the first time last night - onto DH!! It was a bit of a weird thing - it grossed me out a little but at the same time I was pleased as I thought it was happening to everyone else (I know differently this morning from this thread!!!) but not me. I have really small boobs, and the small boob paranoia was convincing me that I would not be able to BF. I know that boob size has nothing to do with it, but I wasn't being logical!
Went to get measured for nursing bras yesterday, was that I was a 36D - was 34A pre-pg. Couldn't stop grinning. DH asked if I was going to frame the packet with the size on it!

Getting a bit of a cold, so didn't sleep well last night - and every time I woke up I worried about the PFJ. How does MN get into my brain so much?? I do hope she's OK........

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 10/04/2008 11:13

Thanks chipmonkey - that's quite reassuring!

NEM - looking good! Your DD is such a cutie!

Soph73 · 10/04/2008 11:13

NEM - I know, I´m absolutely amazed. I have another appointment for a growth scan on the 15th and then my MW has booked me appointments for 25 April & 2 May (due date) & hopefully I won´t need the 2 May one

Anyway, I must waddle off to the supermarket, then home to put the washing out. We don´t have a computer at home, which is probably a good thing otherwise I´d never be off MN

Will check in again tomorrow to see how everyone´s doing.

Have good days everyone xxxxxxx

Scampmum · 10/04/2008 11:20

DD! I meant DD!! Sorry xxx

Carey87 · 10/04/2008 11:21

omg!!! its just taken me over an hour to put on two pics cos DP has so much security on this bloody computer!!!

sagitta · 10/04/2008 11:44

But lovely pics carey! Do you know if you're having boy or girl? Your bump's a different shape from mine...

TLSM · 10/04/2008 11:46

Am I the only one who is a little at Kerry Katano going into labout 5 weeks early i know its far too early but still at her not having to do the last slogg!!

Right I am walking to tescos oh also I took that black Cahosh every hour on the hour yesterday and nothing so cant be bothered with that again today!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 10/04/2008 11:54

Ahh what a cute little bump Carey! How far gone are you in both pics? If they ar both recent then you are TINY!!! I'm also carrying low like you!

Carey87 · 10/04/2008 11:59

no idea sagitta, everyone reckons a girl

Carey87 · 10/04/2008 12:00
