Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
moominsmummy · 10/04/2008 09:20

thought i was the only pg woman left in the world for a moment!
Mollyfloss - don't worry about not leaking - I never did but once feeding got established it would spray across the room if DS didn't suck fast enough!

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 10/04/2008 09:23

just seen on another thread VS has been up early with aches and pains and has now disappeared.....

PortAndLemon · 10/04/2008 09:30

I've never leaked pre-birth but managed to bf DS until he was three, so nothing for you to worry about there.

I think the thing to be prepared for with bf is that it is effectively a full-time job in itself for the first few weeks, even before you factor in the other baby stuff. But a couple of months down the line it becomes the Lazy Mother's Friend, so it balances out in the end .

moominsmummy · 10/04/2008 09:30

ooo - yes - just found that other thread - how exciting!

OP posts:
Carey87 · 10/04/2008 09:32

how exciting for VS!

well I had sex last night and this time - nothing, not a single cramp and ache, therefore have come to the conclusion that lo is going to arrive late, oh well

scorpio - how are you feeling?

mollyfloss - be glad your not, ive been spraying everywhere since about 35 weeks!

Mollyfloss · 10/04/2008 09:33

That's good about BF then. Moomsin: Did you fine it pretty easy to express? I'm not planning to for the first few weeks (so the baby won't get lazy with a bottle) but was wondering how easy it is after that. Do you just build up a stock and freeze it in case there is a full day when you have the leave the baby with someone else?

scorpio1 · 10/04/2008 09:33

feel normal today, was v crapmy last night but still, i dont feel much different until im about to labour, so who knows?

It will happen one day, lol.

Carey87 · 10/04/2008 09:36

can someone tell me what will happen if baby still not engaged at 40 weeks? Im pretty sure baby still not (well wasnt last week at mw appointment and dont feel any different)

Cx

sagitta · 10/04/2008 09:50

Hi Carey - I imagine it will sort itself out...

I hope VS is doing OK...

Moomins - sorry about your horrible day - but the hearing aid thing might work out well for DS. I get a lot of ear infections and its awful being deaf, you get really cut off from the world, so well done him for speaking so well - and it will really help him socially, I'm sure.

Saw MW yesterday - they don't induce till 40+14 here . And no sweep till 40 + 10. If I add on the three days it took DD to come after induction, that's nothing till May 13 I am going to be pregnant for ever...

scorpio1 · 10/04/2008 09:51

Sagitta - MAY?!?!? They induce at T+12 here, and they will sweep me next week at 40+5.

Mollyfloss · 10/04/2008 09:55

40+14 is really long to wait! I have an appointment on Tuesday (when i will be 2 days overdue) and I have no idea what will be suggested to me... I would imagine they will just say to keep waiting. What's induction like anyway?

scorpio1 · 10/04/2008 09:57

Molly, they might sweep if you asked.

I don't know about induction though.

Mollyfloss · 10/04/2008 10:02

I'm not too fussed really... will see what they say. I have psychologically prepared myself to go late but then ask me again this time next week! I'll probably be up the walls!

sagitta · 10/04/2008 10:03

Induction: shit. Although at 40+14 I would be tempted to pull LO out myself with tongs...

moominsmummy · 10/04/2008 10:06

Sagitta - don't worry - I expect to still be pregnant then too!

Molly - I was induced last time and can't say that I'm a fan of it really - one of the worst bits is that you have to do all your early labour in hospital - I was on a 12-bed ward and one girl had a load of visitors who would turn up with their macdonalds and eat it whilst staring at me whilst I paced up and down

i just wanted to be somewhere on my own.

apparently some hospitals will let you go home after they have put the "stuff" in - so it may be worth asking if you can?

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 10/04/2008 10:10

Molly, I normally expressed a little at a time once my supply was established and had a small freezer stock. You might not need a full day's worth if say, you just want to go out for a meal with dh but the more you have, obviously the more freedom you have to do things without baby. Don't be dismayed if you can only express very little at the start, especially if you are feeding the baby fulltime. If you express a little every day at the same time, gradually the amount you are able to express at that time will increase.

sagitta · 10/04/2008 10:10

Moomin - do they let you go? That would be much better. That was one of the worst things, being in hospital for so long. And everyone ignored me, (including DH) so I had no pain relief at all until I was properly dilated.
And it was Christmas Day and Boxing Day [get-sympathy emoticon]

Mollyfloss · 10/04/2008 10:11

I better read up on induction then just in case so I am at least a bit prepared.

Moomsin: When you say 'out the stuff in' was that the gel or did they inject you?

TLSM · 10/04/2008 10:11

Morning All Lol at Sagitta gosh I think I would be with you I am only 37+6 and have had enough I had DS at 38+1 so any longer than that and I think I will pull my hair out! and they could let me go 4 weeks over that

Oh I hope VS is ok will go and read her thread!

Molly silly question but are you going private I dont know why just assumed you are if so i think you have more of a say - watching Portland hospital it seems they an decided when they are inducted!!!

Scorpio I would tell your DH and Dad that you take longer to cook Girls as they are more complex than Boys!!

Sheds gosh what a nightmare glad your home and ok now enjoy your lo

I am doing my mammoth nappy wash today as will be able to get them on the washing line as its lovely and sunny here

sagitta · 10/04/2008 10:14

They put gel in first - I think I had that a couple of times, which sort of kicks off pre-labour. Then - for me anyway - DD started to get distressed after a couple of days and I went on the drip thing, which is bad because you have to lie down, and weird because they can totally control how hectic your contractions are and how fast it happens. And it can happen quite fast, so they basically gave me an epidural at the same time as the pain comes on really quickly.

Mollyfloss · 10/04/2008 10:15

Thanks for the advice Chipmonkey: I was thinking of one day when the baby will be 4/5 months old and my Mum will be looking after her for the day and wondering if it is feasable to build up a stock. I suppose it will be by then.

I think the fact that I'm thinking that far ahead is pretty telling that I am getting into the 'bored stage' now... Right, well I'll get myself off to the pool in a mo. It's a beautiful day outside!

sagitta · 10/04/2008 10:17

Molly - I got so into pumping that i had a freezer full of the stuff and had to throw it out in the end. It turns out that not many people want to look after quite small babies for you!

TLSM · 10/04/2008 10:19

Ohh it is looking very positive for VS she has not been seen for 2 hours I do hope this is it for her!

Mollyfloss · 10/04/2008 10:21

TLSM: Yep, I'm going private (DH's insurance actually covers it!) not at Portland though, am not a huge fan. I think I might have more of a say but my Doc knows that I am very pro-natural and she is quite like that herself (one of her 3 was a home birth) so we'll see what she advises. She told me she had one woman who CHOOSE to go to 43 weeks! I already read the induction bit in 'what to expect' some time ago but will have to refresh myself so I know what the Doc is talking about if it comes to it.

Pumping seems like a lot of hard work but must be really handy if someone else does look after your LO!

Right i'm off to the pool!

chipmonkey · 10/04/2008 10:28

I had a huge freezer stock for ds3 but the little fecker refused to take a bottle for ages!!!! Had no trouble with ds1 and ds2 so it was a shock to me!
But he's still the same, stubborn little mule, now having "ishoos" with potty training so looks like we're in for a lifetime of this!
