Thanks aussiediva - I think I might get her book as I like her on the tv. I have Gina Ford's book and it just makes me feel a bit sad and inadequate as I just am not that good at being organised and I really want to cuddle the baby more than she seems to leave time for!
Spreadsheet would be really handy ta email is

Morning All, any news from PFJ and Scorpio??? are there more little ones now??

exciting

nothing happening here, feeling frustrated and fat, so I'm going shopping with my mum . should keep me occupied for a while.

whats everyone else up to today???

moominsmummy · 01/04/2008 09:55

I found contented baby books were excellent - much closer to what you feel is instinctively right as a parent (as opposed to the methods of she-who-shall-not-be-named-on-mumsnet)

EllieG · 01/04/2008 09:55

Carey - that's Gina Ford. I have her book, am sure is very good if you have the discipline to do it but it is VERY regimented and there is no room for not using her methods. Lots of people swear by it, I haven't used so can't make a judgment on it's efficacy but reading the book, as I said, makes me feel a bit stressed and inadequate. You have to do everything at Gina's set times, which is probably good, but what if baby hasn't read it and don't know what it's supposed to do? Plus she doesn't like baby being in with you or in a sling or any of the other things I want to do. And you can't go out much cos nap time HAS to be in cot with blackout curtains. Not sure how that fits with getting out and doing the school run. I think I will cherry pick from different methods and see what works for me.

EllieG · 01/04/2008 09:56

Moomin - I thought the Contented Baby books were GF? Am I getting confused?

Carey87 · 01/04/2008 09:57

whos she shall not be named???

confused :S

EllieG · 01/04/2008 10:00

Carey - Gina Ford. Her and MN had a bit of a bust up didn't they, and now she is a tricksy subject and we all have to be very, very polite about her or she will sue.

Carey87 · 01/04/2008 10:00

I think I'm going to just see how it all goes, also Ive heard that depending on when your lo is born can effect feed patterns an sleep i.e born at 6 o clock in morning as opposed to 8 in evening can effect (not that we are all going to keep legs crossed until 8 in the evening )

moominsmummy · 01/04/2008 10:00

No it's me being confused -Sorry i meant the whisperer books are good (doh- pregnancy brain again!)

i didn't find the Contented books v good at all - particularly if you want your own life back

I know we weren't to mention GF a while back but don't know if we can now the legal stuff has been sorted out??

Carey87 · 01/04/2008 10:01

ohhhhhhhhhhhh! ok cool

will be nice

AussieDivaOnABreak · 01/04/2008 10:05

Gina Ford (who I believe has never had children herself? Or is this just a vicious rumour?) appears very regimented because she calls the shots and baby is just expected to fit it, regardless of its temperament. Baby Whisperer is also about routine, but you work together with the baby's temperament to create a routine that works for you both, becasue the truth is no baby is going to be the same. It's the middle ground I think between Ford and that happy clappy Ferberising approach which is basically let baby run your life for the next five years and be happy about it.

I will email everyone the spreadsheet in the next ten mins or so, DD is calling!

Peachy · 01/04/2008 10:05

If the SWCBN baby books make you feel inadequate before your ead them then i think they're not for you- I think they suit a very specific type of Mum only tbh,,certainly nobody with children already (how could you possibly manage it?) and those who are comfortable being told what to do all the way.

If you are considering following SWCBN and breastfeeding, I would suggest chatting to someone like the ABM or NCT first, I haven't read read the newest editions but there was debate about the older ones and BF certainly.

moominsmummy · 01/04/2008 10:05

well my DS had his sight checked yesterday (routine thing at 3.5yrs apparently) and they were amazed that he still does not know one single colour. Not one. They are pretty confident he's not colour blind as he could see everything he was supposed to in the spots pictures they use and as his nursery teacher said he is quite bright. he is just useless at colours

I wonder if it's just a boy-thing? If you know how to take it apart and what noise it makes when you bash it, does it really matter what colour it is???

I can't see him having a career as an interior designer at this rate.....

christmaspixie · 01/04/2008 10:08

Morning everyone, ooooh I hope there's a baby on the way right now for PFJ or Scorpio! I'm nearly 38 weeks and haven't had so much as a single cramp. Humph!!

I used the Baby whisperer book with dd1, well, I tried to! I did find it very good, but in the end, I jsut wanted to do my own thing, so I just used bits and bobs from different things I'd read. (I didn't like GF...I'm too go with the flow for that structure!)

Jen-Jen, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time. I've lost one of my best friends this pregnancy after she cancelled me going to stay with her by email the night before, when I was 30 weeks pregnant and had an important meeting to go to. I was more forthright than normal (being pregnant and cross!!) and asked her to apologise, she hasn't spoken to me since!! Peopl e who don't have kids/ have not been pregnant don't get it IMO. I was a bit of a crazed loon last pregnancy but once breastfeeding kicked in I was Miss Calm and Spacey! All those happy BF hormones!

Who's gonna be next? My bet is PFJ!

Peachy · 01/04/2008 10:08

Moominsmummy, colour identification was an issue with ds3, we were given some tips to help which didn't really suit him (he now knows them at 4.5 though)-

the first step is sorting into colour, if they can do that it's OK apparently. We were told to use sweets and not to worry about naming, that comes later- just learn to sort into same coloured piles.

What got ds3 goping though was cbeebies, using the paintbox activities on there (he responds far better to PC absed activities than human led ones), naming colours around that has worked a treat.

scorpio1 · 01/04/2008 10:28

Morning; I'm going to ring the MW in a minute, having pains since 7am, havent stopped since having a bath, almost feels like pain in my cervix as well. Almost a constant ache and then strong cx every about 15 mins, enough for a hip wiggle, lol!

Don;t know wether to bother them yet incase its not labour....which i doubt it is, just me getting hopeful lol.

TheMaskedPoster · 01/04/2008 10:35

Morning - just checking in.

oooooo - go PFJ and Scorpio!!!!

SuzeM · 01/04/2008 10:37

I haven't checked in here in a few days and there was so much to catch up on!

Congratulations, PAL and Vacaloca, I'm delighted for you.

Scampmum, belated happy birthday.

Jennie, hope you are ok.

PFJ, glad your mum made it and hope your baby is on the way!

I finished work on Friday, which was weird as I don't know when I'll be going back but I am sure I'll get used to not being in the office very quickly.

I was at the doctor yesterday, the baby is 2/5 now, she was 3/5 at 36 weeks so assume this is progress?

I tried perineal massage but I don't think I am doing it properly so I am probably wasting my time.

It is such a lovely day but I am stuck in waiting for Mothercare, grrr.

SuzeM · 01/04/2008 10:38

Good luck Scorpio!

scorpio1 · 01/04/2008 10:39

No-one there, don't want to leave a message becuase sods law they will ring me back at lunch and all will have gone! hurts more when i walk around.

scorpio1 · 01/04/2008 10:46

just got hold of my MW, she said sounds like pre-labour, she will antenatal check me today and do an internal if i start contracting more. have just had another. Have alerted DH. Ringing her back at 1pm to report on progress.

moominsmummy · 01/04/2008 10:48

scorpio - so exciting!!

PFJ - where are you?????
