AussieDivaOnABreak · 01/04/2008 20:51

Sounds like I'm off to Holland & Barratt tomorrow then...grass, hot water and honey just isn't ringing my bell. Thanks guys.

jenniejennie · 01/04/2008 21:09

I got some rl tablets and been taking them every day for a while now. Dont actually know what they are supposed to do but everyone at my antenatal class was going on about them and you lot so I just got some from H&B too!! Sheep.

Peachy · 01/04/2008 21:15

You can get the RL tablets online at Holland and barratt too

but I stopped taking them because I was realising my false starts were being triggered by them- and after two days without them I have a very different class of niggle today LOL- felt far mroe productive!. The other thing like that to avoid is CCalry Sage- fine once labour established, but Doula told me of a woman who tried to induce with the oil and found herself in hospital after a long time of apinful but useless pain- no thanks!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 01/04/2008 21:18

Hmm - so to take them or not take them - that is the question? Not sure what to do now - I was going to start taking them tomorrow.

Mollyfloss · 01/04/2008 21:21

Just catching up as was on a little Baby first of course today which was very informative. Learned a lot in a couple of hours.

On books, is what to expect the first year any good?

We were given a bugaboo frog on a permanent loan from a friend. We only have the pram bit (carrycot) though and not the buggy seat as hers is wrecked so later we'll buy the seat separately or get a different buggy. I like the look of Phil & Ted's even though I don't have another child. Plenty of space to pop shopping etc. in the back.

On RL tea I got one made by Heath & Heather form Holland & Barrett that actually tastes nice. It's RL tea but the have added some fruity flavours.

Hope it won't be too long for Scoprpio & PFJ!

AussieDivaOnABreak · 01/04/2008 21:29

That is v.interesting Peachy re false starts. You're absolutely right about Clary Sage, must wait until actually in labour before using it. Same goes for Blue/Black Cohosh apparently. There seems to be so much conflicting advice re RL though - I did some research on the net and some say don't take it before 37/36/38 weeks (all different) and others say it's safe to take from Day One as it doesn't induce labour but the "toning" effect means the uterus works more efficiently when the time comes. I don't know. Sounds like no one really knows and it all depends on the person taking it. I say go with what feels right and you're doing the right thing Peachy if you feel more "productive" without.

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 01/04/2008 21:44

Ha ha - in the waiting room at the dr's today I was reading a magazine while I was waiting, and in it someone had written "Is it too much to ask to have a separate area for children and toys so they do not bother those sitting around them?" What a sad person!

northeastmummy · 01/04/2008 21:51

AussieDiva - I'm only on page 6 at the moment but don't want to forget this! I have a lot of time for Baby Whisperer but didn't really make a very good go of it with DD1 so would be really interested in seeing your spreadsheet. My email is [email protected]. Just a wee warning though ... I'm likely to have lots of questions .

AussieDivaOnABreak · 01/04/2008 21:54

So it seems we haven't had an April Fool baby today - although we still have a couple of hours left...fingers crossed for Scorpio and PFJ tho overnight, and anyone else who gets those first twinges in the early hours! I'm off to have a quick dip in the bath and then crash.

Important note to first timers - I remember the ecstasy I felt when I was woken up one morning by my dd and realised I had dreamt my first dream in five weeks - yes, I actually managed to get enough sleep to go into REM. I was so, so very happy.

So now, sleeeeeep as much as you can! You will need it!!!! Nite nite all. x

AussieDivaOnABreak · 01/04/2008 21:56

Before I go Northeast I will email you the sheet now. And questions are fine x

SuzeM · 01/04/2008 21:58

AussieDiva, can you email me the spreadsheet too? [email protected]
Thanks.

AussieDivaOnABreak · 01/04/2008 22:02

SuzeM and Northeast, done. Huge Mwahs all round.

Sal22 · 01/04/2008 22:07

hmm - just got a text message from my 86-year old grandmother (who does get a little confused lately, so now we're not sure if she just meant best wishes for future or what...) saying wish she could be here and to give baby a kiss from her...! Hope she doesn't know something we don't about tonight, because I've come to terms with Thursday's cs, but wouldn't like an ecs tonight if I've got the choice!

I'm off to bed now, but will check this thread early tomorrow morning to see if anyone here made April 1st after all Good night to all.

jenniejennie · 01/04/2008 22:14

Wow, your 86 yr old gma can even text, amazing. She must be a genius if she can do that so I would trust what she says!! Eek!

northeastmummy · 01/04/2008 22:26

Phew - made it. Fingers crossed your warm ups come to something overnight PFJ and Scorpio. It all sounds very promising!

Aussie - thanks for the spreadsheet. Hope you're tucked up in bed by now. On your journey, I travelled to Stirling and back today (2 hours each way) and drove myself (I'm 37.5 weeks). I think you'll be fine but remember to take your notes. Also, the rumbling of the road under the tyres did get some interesting twinges going - it was a little worrying at times but I made it in one piece.

VS - poor you! Sending lots of cervix opening vibes too!!

And Moominsmummy ... how GORGEOUS is your wee boy!? I love your photos - they made me giggle out loud .

Well, I'm off to bed now. Sleep well everyone.

chipmonkey · 02/04/2008 00:17

PFJ and Scorpio, have fingers crosssed for you that all will kick off tonight! Smart babies just didn't want to be born on April Fools Day that's all.
Whoever was chatting about Baby Whisperer, I couldn't really get the hang of it at all! Only that I figured that ds3 was a "Spirited Baby" which I had really figured out for myself already and 3 years on, nothing's changed.
Her bf advice is very dodgy, I can see that it would probably be kind of okay for someone who had a good supply from the start but really would be terrible for anyone who was struggling.
And IIRC the main reason I bought the book was because ds3 was utterly refusing to take a bottle, I was going back to work and her advice on getting them to take a bottle was supposed to be good but as it turned out, it didn't help at all.
Not trying to be negative but just to say it didn't work for us!

ThePFJ · 02/04/2008 00:41

It's a complete all stop here again now.
chipmonkey I hope you are right. I really really do.
I have managed to relax alot this evening and I feel much better. Regardless of how many contractions and pains I get, and how many hours/days it takes I now know this is nature and I can not be in control. However much I want to be.
So its time to go with the flow and just breathe.

My only gripe is the amount of phone calls I am getting asking if LO is here yet. So I have karmically left the phone on the answer machine

PFJ over and out.
xxx

chipmonkey · 02/04/2008 00:43

Night-night, PFJ!

ThePFJ · 02/04/2008 00:44

night chipmonkey!! -hugs-

rainbowdays · 02/04/2008 06:29

I have started...... after so many weeks of false starts, I am sure this is the real thing. Heavy show with blood and very painful contractions 4 mins apart currently.
Will post as soon as I can, but may be trapped in hospital with no computer access.

Obviously will come back on sooner if yet another false alarm, but sure it is not this time.

aprilfoolsbaby · 02/04/2008 07:16

Hello ladies - any room for a little one?

My official due date was 30th March but as you'll know that day has been and gone so I am officially overcooked. It was getting a bit lonely on the March thread so I was wondering if I could join in here?

This is my first baby, it's been a wonderful pregnancy until the last few weeks when I've had a few BP blips. I'm booked in for a sweep on Sunday and the midwife has said we could look at an induction anytime from Wednesday next week. (depending on how busy the hospital is!!) I haven't agreed to this and will try anything to avoid an induction. On the other hand I am dying to meet the baby and will do anything for it to be healthy.

I haven't had time to read the whole thread - have you guys had many babies yet?

Carey87 · 02/04/2008 07:44

Morning all!

I had a huge cx last night! but only the one

I just want baby to arrive now!!!

Aprilfoolsday - welcome!

Scorpio - where are you??? (In labour I hope! )

OP posts:
AussieDivaOnABreak · 02/04/2008 08:36

Morning all!

Welcome AprilFools - poor you, languishing on the March thread and feeling loney. I was 13 days late with my first baby - it's so common to be overdue so don't fret.

Carey - you are obviously starting to get all the right pangs, somethings got to start soon for you too!

Raindowdays I think we were all wondering where you were! HUUUGE good luck vibes and I can't wait to hear how it goes.

PFJ, you were just playing April Fool with us all day right (cheeky nudge). It must be so frustrating but at least with every day you are one day closer. That is what is getting me through right now.

I completely understand Chipmonkey that Baby Whisperer isn't going to be for everyone. Re Breast feeding I was so incredibly fortunate to have no problems at all (apart from seriously cracked nipples at the end of week one which I sorted with a few days of nipple shielding - god that sounds so medieval!)and so following her advice didn't cause me any probs. I also only BF for the first 6 weeks because I had a long haul flight to Sydney 7 weeks after she was born to start rehearsing an opera and I knew I wasn't going to be able to continue. So we introduced a bottle in around week 3 (expressed at the time) because we knew she would be more receptive to new experiences early on (this is really against BF law) but it made sense to us and really worked. By week 5 she was taking breast and bottle no probs...

It just shows you though that even after you've had your baby there are really no rules - everyone is different and every baby will do its own thing. Bless 'em!

ToastAddict · 02/04/2008 08:41

Oh, go on aussie, can I join in and have a copy of your spreadsheet?
annahillathome @ googlemaildotcom

Thanks

I had a bit of a read of the Baby Whisperer a while ago, it was the woman's writing style that stopped me reading it in the end, did my head in! But if lots of you found it useful, maybe I should persevere. I agree, she did seem to make some sense (to a woman who has never cared for a child!!!) and didn't try to impose particularly strict routines.......

TLSM · 02/04/2008 08:54
