Thedoctorswife I was tempted by a homebirth but my DH is like yours, he just wouldn't contemplate it. As it happens, last pg I was diagnosed with Strep B so homebirth now extremely unlikely as I'll need IV antibiotics during labour. I think I'm right in saying that I'm still likely to have the infection this time around? Anyway I am seriously thinking of having a doula to accompany me in labour in hospital. DH is great, but we're both novices at this and I think having someone impartial there would be reassuring. Has anybody else had a doula and what did you think?
Pinkali I would be thinking like you, if dr is happy then that's OK. Hope you won't be too anxious over the weekend - not really what you want to hear on a Friday afternoon...

pinkali - I would feel reassured at what the Dr has said. Can't believe you have all weekend to worry though.....we are here for you!!!!! The thing I really really HATE about being PG is the waiting game......everything is based on waiting and it drives me insane as I am so impatient...

Just had about a pint of peppermint tea to take away the taste of pickled onions I can breathe on the kids again now!!!

Pinkali37 · 04/04/2008 16:09

Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts. Well it better be ok or erm.... i will cry ! Understatement !!

Hsve decided not to have anothe horrible weekend worrying and to try and have a nice one because as my DH would say "what will be will be". Come on body........ Come on PEA.....

x

thanks for all the advice everyone about the hair - i think i'll go and chat to the hairdressers but i dont want to start freaking out over every little thing!
pink - hope all is ok for you, thinking of you.

Also jsut thought id let u know while i was in the health food shop they gave me this sample bottle of a new Ginger product. Its caller Rochester Ginger Drink, like a syrupy drink, in an old fashioned green bottle.
It has cured my nausea all day! www.originaldrinks.com/ginger.pdf

Tinkerisdead · 04/04/2008 16:32

hanaflower - hmmm food for thought, thank you for sharing your opinions. I am toying with paying an independant midwife to be with me during labour and delivery. i think the most important thing for me is one to one care even if i have to pay for it and \i think it may be the only way

thomasina1 · 04/04/2008 17:28

Hi, can I join your gang!? I am coming up to 7 wks so due late Nov. Had my first scan today - saw heartbeat, what a relief!

Anyone know anything about UCH BTW? I heard that the maternity unit is moving to the new building in Sep so I'm hoping it will be in time for me... I know it's early to be thinking about it but now that scan was OK I'm finally thinking about the reality of this actually leading to a BABY!

Pinkali, did I see that you are having another scan? I hope it goes OK.

Pinkali, midwives should sometimes think before they speak so as not to freak you out completely.
Hope its good news good luck for monday.

serendippity · 04/04/2008 18:12

How come everyone is having such early scans if i can ask? Has everyone had a bad experiance apart from myself? or is it a new thing everywhere but cambridge?
I think i mentioned i'm not due a scan until 15th may.
pink hope all is ok
Welcome thomasina
Emmanj i drink Bottlegreen Lemongrass and ginger cordial it is wonderful for curing sickness and nausa (how the hell do you spell that?!)

Emmanj · 04/04/2008 18:14

thanks serendipity, will look out for that drink.
i was also thinking the same as you and wondering why so many early scans?

mummyhill · 04/04/2008 18:31

I am also wondering about the frequency of early scans, I have a history of complications andf the gp said not to worry will be fine without an early scan, I am still fighting to get a bloody 12 week scan atm.

MrsMattie · 04/04/2008 18:44

I have had a m/c and there is a slight question mark over my dates, so my GP referred me for an early scan.

Some GPs will refer you happily 'just' to put your mind at rest. Others won't unless you have a history of complications or multiple miscarriages. I will still have the nuchal scan at 12 weeks and the anomaly scan at 20 weeks.

Tinkerisdead · 04/04/2008 19:08

no early scan for me in leics. i get 12 week dating scan and 20 week anomoly scan and i have to pay for my NT scan. I have called an independant midwife and she s coming to see me on monday eve to discuss private antenatal care and homebirth. feel so much more positive!

dozymare · 04/04/2008 19:45

I have also had a MC and was unsure of my dates(and really pushed that point) hence a "dating scan" last tuesday. My next scan will be early May (12-14 week) followed by the 20 week one.

I agree it all depends on your doctor, but I know ladies who have just turned up at the EPAC on a Sat morning saying they have had a bleed and cramping (they haven't but wanted reassurance for whatever reason) and have been seen. They go on a SAturday as then they self refer. I personally don't have a problem with this, as it is better to have a happy mum than a worried stressed one!!

So if any of you want reassurance, you know what to do

thomasina1 · 04/04/2008 19:46

I was seeing a gynacologist privately (insurance through work) about my polycystic ovary syndrome and she recommended an early scan - not sure why - maybe higher chance of miscarriage? I didn't think I'd get it on NHS but when I mentioned it to my GP she was more than happy to refer me. Then today at the EPU (UCH) the sonographer actually said that I should come back if I had any worries as they were happy to scan to reassure people!!

dozymare · 04/04/2008 19:49

Welcome Newbies BTW...how rude of me not to say!!

Thomasina, I to have PCOS and there is a slightly higher risk of MC but I have been told that once oyu see the HB it is very positive indeed....saying that, I won't rest until the wee one is in my arms!!

pinkyminky · 04/04/2008 20:50

I wouldn't stress too much about the hair thing- it's more to do with changes to your own body and to the condition of your hair- chances of a bit of hair dye doing anything to your baby must surely be infinitesimal. I was mentioning the highlights because some people's hair can go a bit brittle during pregnancy.
I was hoping of an early scan because I'm very unsure about my dates- only stopped breastfeeding a few months before I got PG and AF was not regular to say the least, but no offers of scan were forthcoming. Still, I have never had any serious complications for baby during my pregnancies, so I count myself very lucky and I think those of you who have are coping very well.

Hello to new people!

mad4mybaby · 04/04/2008 20:55

im only having an early scan as there is a question over dates. I did a roast tonight and at 8pm i then had 4 slices of marmite on toast! Dont feel full up either! Wierd! Theres not much of me either so dont know where im putting it! Is anyone getting headaches? How do you get rid of it? Paracetamol does nothing for me. Had one for 2 days now.

Pink, take care of yourself over the w/e

mummyhill · 04/04/2008 21:08

I suffer from migraine and they are worse during pregnancy. I am also allergic to paracetamol. I tend to try to drink plenty of water and go lie down in a dark room (easier said than done).

AliciaJohns · 04/04/2008 21:32

Hi guys, just writing to remove myself from list (I think this is the most up to date one), unfortunately I found out today that I have lost my baby at 10 weeks. Feeling beyond crap right now so won't linger on and bring you all down, but good luck to you all for your pregnancies.

Hello all, just taking my name off the list.
D&C was done yesterday, so nothing left here, well only ridiculously high hCG levels.
But time ought to bring those down
Good luck to you all in your pregnancies and hope you all have as lovely LO's as my DD!
