Congrats MoM

CricketsMum · 07/03/2008 12:41

Hurrah - another baby! Congrats MoM!

c4it · 07/03/2008 13:40

Ok, here goes, sorry for the essay girls. As some of you know, I'm a serial March 08 lurker - to be honest I can't keep up with you all. I'm 38 wks today - due 21 March with baby no 2. DD1 had mild shoulder dystocia (where the shoulder gets stuck after the head is born) and I'm having to fight REALLY hard to have a home birth this time round, even though the chance of it happening again is only 1 in 200!

MW has now agreed I can have baby at home if I agree to go in if they are not happy with how things are going on the day, which I have agreed to (I guess I can always be difficult later ). Saw the consultant yesterday who has reluctantly agreed that it is my decision, and is writing to me, GP and MW to advise against it. Now he wants to see me on 20th (39+6) to book induction!!!

Obviously the last thing I want is to be induced (come on baby - stop messing about now!), and I know a few of you are in the same boat now, so I just wondered what your thoughts were on how bloody minded to be? When I'm sat in front of Consultant I find it really hard to stick to my guns, but feel like I'm being bullied.

(sorry again for the essay) and Congrats to MOM!

JFly · 07/03/2008 14:10

Yippee MoM! Finally. I was going through withdrawl. OK, now Jay, let's get moving!

MW today at 40+1. Between the two of them, they took my BP about 7 times and decided to send bloods away to check for pre-eclampsia. I'm sure I'm fine, but they just want to check as BP erratic, combined with my serious swelling. Will call for results tonight. Oh, and not as engaged as two weeks ago, so must get myself walking around a lot.

Next appt is for Wednesday at which point they may offer me a sweep. They said they "let you go" to 41+5 before induction, but she was pretty blase and made it sound like it was really up to me. So, plenty of time to consider my options.

All her other 40 weekers that were booked in today had already had their babies!

feedmenow · 07/03/2008 14:27

Congrats MoM!!!!!!!!! look forward to hearing all the not-so-gory details soon!

I had a lovely spa evening yesterday with a lovely pregnancy pampering session and a big piece of white choc and raspberry cake. Mmmmmmm!

Having had my me-time I am now happy for bambino to arrive whenever ready, but feel quite calm about going over. Most certainly will not be pushing anyone for sweeps or the such! More than happy here to let nature take its course!

Will check back in later to see if anyone else has news....

fitnfortyone · 07/03/2008 14:49

feedmenow, i'm quite content about being past my EDD, it's everyone else who gets on their high horse about it and starts throwing spanners in the works about induction etc. It's very hard to keep calm once the pressure starts to conform to medical expectations

MOM congrats, need more details asap!

c4it quite agree with you on the bullying... i'm shit-scared of going anywhere near the hospital which is why i've gone whole hog for the home birth...i just know if i end up in hosp then the chances of natural birth will go out the window and my bp will in all likelihood be even worse, leading to who knows what tension, therefore more pain etc etc. Vicious circle.

Mind you, yesterday they were about to close the labour ward due to being full to bursting and shortstaffed, so i can't see how they can say in those circumstances that it's safer to be there than at home! Apparently the nearest space they could find for someone was in Bath, miles away from Newport!

Jaysthird · 07/03/2008 14:52

nothing else to report, feeling deflated for myself but over the moon for MoM - big congrats to you!

Dont know if anyone on here knows TYACA, but just got this text from her...

"ouch that hurt.Sod birth au naturel.Show me the drugs! Esther Dear, 6lb 10oz, born 9.45 this morning. Tyaca"

So the babies are coming out today!!!!

MissingMyHeels · 07/03/2008 14:57

Aww Jay - it's GOT to be you next. Good news from tyaca - I did a bit of lurking on the Feb thread so good to know!

I had consultants appointment this morning and had a CTG which was all good. Cervix completely closed and they have booked me for induction next Friday so I need to get her out before then! I am finding it very depressing being at home, too fat to do much and I know I should probably resist induction etc but I just want her out now and think it's the best option for me and my mental health!

Here's to lots of sex, raspberry leaf tea, walking etc.

derah · 07/03/2008 15:00

Hooray MoM!!! Another lovely baby!! Congratulations!

Hey Turtle, you still want that nest?

Jaysthird · 07/03/2008 15:01

Missingmyheels....your induction date is day after mine, i bet i still have to go in for it!!

As for sex, curries tea etc, i am giving up on it all...sex, is just so dam uncomfortable and makes me feel like we are 'having' to do it, not because we 'want' to do it. I have had curry at least every other night for about three weeks, I WILL turn into a raspberry if i drink anymore, and i just cant face pinapples as i overdosed on them when DS was 10 days over!!!!

GRRRRRR!

turtle23 · 07/03/2008 15:16

Derah- Oh bugger...knew I had forgotten something. Tonight ok? Will take me 45 mins to drive down, so is easier if I wait til traffic dies down a bit. Let me know. And thank you!!

Feel a bit bad, been lurking on this thread for what seems like ages, but have been determined to wait until my due date before posting. I'm now 40+1, saw mw this am and all seems ok, baby is in a good position and BP is low - incredible given that dd2 (4.5) has been having some truly enormous evil tantrums of late. Don't mean to gloat, I know some of you are having a rough time with BP.

I'm a bit intrigued by how many of you seem to know what state your cervix is in - have you asked your mw to look, do they offer to look, or do you think it is just your circumstances (age, bp), etc? I've never had this and my other two were both at least 10 days late. Just curious.

3madboys · 07/03/2008 16:06

hello all, oh dear all us overdue fed up ladies, i am now a week over, had accupuncture today and OMG i could really feel it working, straight away i was getting period type cramps and back pain, not very comfortable but it feels positive, it is still niggling away now, so heres hoping.

re the cervix whathavewedone, the midwife said i could have a membrane sweep and so i found out that way you can ask if they dont offer.

the hospital phoned today to try and book me in for induction for term plus ten, i politely said "no thanks" but i will go in and have a scan, be monitered etc, (we are at the hospital that morning anyway as ds1 has an ENT appointment) so they have agreed to monitering on day ten and day 14 and then we will see where to go from there, but hopefully bump WILL put in an appearance before then.....

my accupuncturist said SEX, or if your partner not happy to participate or you dont want to then DIY will help make the uterous contract got to be worth a go

3madboys · 07/03/2008 16:11

OH AND HUGE CONGRATS TO MOM

HolidaysQueen · 07/03/2008 16:39

Great news about MOM! Let's hope she is blissfully non-itchy

c4it - my hospital doesn't even talk to me about induction until 41 weeks, so I imagine the earliest they would do it would be at 10 days over. I can't believe your consultant wants to talk to you about it before you're even at 40 weeks! I suggest you say you are busy washing your hair that day

Turtle - good-oh on the show! I don't want to put a dampener on it, but my mw did say it could be anything from 3 hours to 3 weeks from show to labour, so our babies might still not arrive until they're due. But it's a good sign nonetheless and we can daydream about it happening sooner

c4it · 07/03/2008 16:54

LOL HQ, think I may just be overcome by my pregancy brain . Have been doing some research and by 42 weeks 82% of women have given birth - so I will just have to pull myself together and not let them push me into something I don't want.

Pineapple anyone?

turtle23 · 07/03/2008 17:21

HQ- yes, not convinced that I've even had a show really. Stil trying to decide. Means nothing, just interesting.

feedmenow · 07/03/2008 18:14

FnF, I can imagine it isn't easy going up against the HCP's!! I know that I have that joy to look forward to even if I don't go overdue (vba2c!!!). However, my dp and other birth partner have both been "trained" in what I do and don't want, plus I have 3 laminated copies of my very detailed birth plan so that my intentions can't be misunderstood/lost/damaged by spillages (eeeww!!)

I find it quite disheartening that they will push for intervention/induction so quickly when there are so many women in this world who naturally seem to have 42 (or sometimes even 43!) week pregnancies So long as mother and baby are thriving then why do they but in?

ibblewob · 07/03/2008 20:49

Come on babies! Thinking of you all as well as wallowing in self-pity/indulgence (wonderful mum looked after DS 2.4 all day today).

Went to hospital for a sweep this morning, was soooo uncomfortable and painful but hopefully with get things moving! Had same due date as merryberry but am booked in for an induction on Tuesday 11th. Will only be 41+2 - that sounds pretty early to me?

Really don't want to be induced but obviously really want this baby now too... Don't know what to do. (Am praying it won't go that far!)

Fingers crossed for you all.

ibblewob · 07/03/2008 21:03

PS tori32 thanks for the info - will def. mention that to the consultant if I have to go in for an induction.

merryberry · 07/03/2008 21:05

ibble, my hospital is a 40+10 day policy. if you don't want it, ask for expectant management instead.

that's a really handy article BTW for anyone going over due...

tori32 · 07/03/2008 21:12

feedmenow I completely agree with you on the interference front. I think this time I have prepared myself better though so feel more able to fight my corner so to speak. (VBAC1).

congratulations MOM!

Went to the clinic for u/s today which went well. Baby approx 9lb now [eeek!] but obviously can be give or take a lb. The good news was that it is vertex but not engaged at the moment.
Can anyone remember what to do for getting the head engaged? I have concentrated on keeping it out until I knew its position! Now I know its not OP we want to engage

turtle23 · 07/03/2008 21:27

lean forward and bounce!
