KnitterInTheNW · 22/02/2008 14:24

A maternity nurse I met through one of my old nanny jobs, said that she'd known of so many new mums getting PND trying to follow GF, as Ellie said earlier there's no time 'scheduled' for going for a walk, going and meeting your friends for a coffee, or any of the other things that keep you sane in the early months! It suits some people, but I think really only if the baby happens to naturally do what GF says they should be doing. And I agree what people have said about the whole not being allowed to sleep anywhere except in their cot with the windows blacked out, I looked after a little girl who'd been Gina'd and it was a nightmare trying to get to any groups or classes or anything at all, cos she just wouldn't sleep in the pushchair on the way to things and so was crabby if we went somewhere.

scorpio1 · 22/02/2008 14:24

her potty training one is good though - it doesnt happen in a week but has very good tips in it for someone like me who hates it.

scorpio1 · 22/02/2008 14:25

sounds like a nightmare Knitter - mine just sllep anywhere wwhen the are ready to!

i used to do baby massage with Jamie and he would zonk for hours literally as soon as i had finished. cue sleeping baby being pulled in and out of pushchair, bus etc

VictorianSqualor · 22/02/2008 14:25

LOL Scorpio, definteily.

Chapter 1.
It's asleep, leave it.

Chapter 2.
It's hungry, fedd it.

Chapter 3.
It's three days old get a babysitter and go and get lashed.

Chapter 4.
It's six months old, feed it crap.

Chapter 5.
It's 3, time for nursery.

scorpio1 · 22/02/2008 14:28

i think more like its 1 time for nursery!

Chapter 6: Wearing of hand me downs

Chapter 7: SHUT UP i am not picking you up/carrying you etc WALK (as opposed to pfb being carried everywhere)

Chapter 8 : Thank god its 5 and in school my life is mine!!

Foreword:
MUMSNET saves lives, please remember, not listening to the story your darling chld wants to tell you about the leaf outside that was blown by the wind is not ignorant nor neglect as long as you are justifiably busy on a prenting website trying to find out how to be a better parent and helping others with your knowledge as you do so.

scorpio1 · 22/02/2008 14:32

ooh sounds like a good story

i am sitting on my bed MN-ing and ds2 is engrossed in some cartoon on cbeebies

northeastmummy · 22/02/2008 14:45

Hello there - I'm back . We had a brilliant week of sun and I'm so glad we squeezed it in before baby two comes along. I've only had a quick look through the last few posts but am going back to the start of this thread for a good catch up.

I hope you're all good and I've not missed too much!

beeper · 22/02/2008 14:56

Wake baby for a feed at 6.45 IS SHE MAD!!!!

sagitta · 22/02/2008 15:03

I vaguely followed GF at about 5 or 6 weeks, but moved everything later by an hour or two, and really played most of it by ear - so we did go out in the day and evenings with DD who slept in the car seat/ buggy/sling.
I have to say though, I found the first few weeks of no routine absolute torture. When you've spent your entire adult life at work, in a routine, its such a shock with the PFB to find that the days are no longer as you expect - you are thrown into a completely new world and its quite alarming...

EllieG · 22/02/2008 15:09

Hee hee I like the sound of the Neglected Baby Book very much Particularly forward about MN. DSD was going 'Eleanor will you do x with me?' the other night and was on MN so said 'No darling I am very busy at the moment (sitting on sofa on MN and drinking tea) I will play later.' And now I know that I don't have to feel so guilty about that!

GF also says you must wake baby at first to feed in the night if she is showing signs of sleeping through as will be bad for milk supply and baby will not have good routine later or something. I thought you should just be very, very grateful if your baby slept through. But I may well be wrong.

EllieG · 22/02/2008 15:10

Hello NEM glad your hol was good

EllieG · 22/02/2008 15:15

Oh and what do people think of Eloise as a name? I might shamelessly steal it from tjuice who mentioned it for her's on knicker-checkers thread this morning. I think it might be up there with Molly I really like it.

Soph73 · 22/02/2008 15:17

Hi all, just a quick catch up. I´m fine, just horrifically busy at work and getting MN withdrawal symptoms. Will deffo try & catch up next week. Ellie - you are not wrong (about baby sleeping).

Soph73 · 22/02/2008 15:18

Glad you had a good hol NEM - the weather here is shitty at the mo and looking as though it´s going to stay that way for the forseeable future - yuk Ellie: Eloise is a lovely name

Soph73 · 22/02/2008 15:21

We have another 3D scan 2 weeks today & I can´t wait to see him again. I´m the next one at work to have their baby & when I realised the other day I literally broke out in a cold sweat However, we´re moving forward in the Canary Islands as you can now have a CS without being knocked out completely - I was very relieved to hear that.

Mollyfloss · 22/02/2008 15:23

The whole day and night distinction definitely makes sense and I'll be bringing the baby with me to friends etc. Hopefully she'll sleep anywhere Scorpio, you're making a lot of sense ;-)

VS: Do tell all on GF, you'll save me reading it!

I couldn't even watch the dreadful program with Claire Verity etc. What was it called? I watched half of one episode and said never again. It was made just to get mothers blood boiling. What's the point in doing a 50's, 60's, & 70's method today? I wouldn't fully agree with just any one of those methods anyway. A mixture of them all would be the most appropriate for most people I would say.

Soph73 · 22/02/2008 15:29

OK, got to go. Have good weekends everyone

sagitta · 22/02/2008 15:37

Would it be wrong to fail to book 31 week MW check because I am too busy? Will not be able to go following week either. What might happen if I don't go?

EllieG · 22/02/2008 15:37

It was an awful programme - I spent the time shouting at the tv in frustration at Claire Verity
