I am curious for those having private scans, are you going down the private route or just having extra scans/tests for your own peace of mind?
It is mine and DH's first baby and we initially thought we might go down the private route but NHS GP advised it wasn't necessary.. (probably right but we did feel a bit spooked about all these news reports this past year re NHS maternity units and ethnic minorities).

BeingHappy · 23/11/2022 14:22

Ah good point @lj2022 ...I wonder as well if it might be because I was high risk too

lj2022 · 23/11/2022 14:25

@BeingHappy we went for one at 9 weeks to check everything was progressing which I was glad about because my 12 week scan wasn't until after 13 weeks and it gave us peace of mind and allowed us to feel confident in announcing at 10 weeks at our engagement party. We then only went for one at 16 weeks for gender but again gave peace of mind especially after loosing our niece at birth. We are going to go for a private 4d scan too just for fun. I personally love the experience of private scans as NHS are there for their purpose and I feel a lot more tense at them.

Skylark1990 · 23/11/2022 14:27

@BeingHappy I think most people go through NHS in the UK for pregnancy and birth, but often get the odd private scan or two as well! And some go through NHS but also get the NIPT privately, as cuppasoupmonster did.
It's good to look at your specific trust for maternity care, as they are all so different. Some are great, others not and you can always choose a different hospital or midwife if you're not happy with your care

alwaysseeingstars · 23/11/2022 14:28

@Cuppasoupmonster sending you a huge hug, that must be so stressful. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that you get some clarity ASAP as pregnancy is stressful at the best of times, let alone with this.
@Skylark1990 hugs for you too, I'm sorry you've had some concern raised but as they say it's borderline I have great hope for you that all will be ok!
@lj2022 glad you had a good scan - I think you should be able to hear the heartbeat as standard from your 25 week midwife appt although I may be wrong as things seem to differ between trusts!!

I've been having some cramping all today, ranging from once every few minutes to up to an hour or so, always low on my left side. It's not particularly painful, just feels like a bit of a squeeze type pain every so often. Is this something anyone else has had? I'm sure everything is fine I'm just worried that it's low down and I've got a low lying placenta so the mind naturally jumps to the worst like the placenta having something wrong! It was my scan last Thurs and I''m already back to being anxious 🙄

OttilieKnackered · 23/11/2022 14:34

Hello all. Finally had my 20 week scan today and found out we’re having a boy.

Very surprised despite understanding it’s a 50/50 toss up as always imagined myself as a girl mum!

BeingHappy · 23/11/2022 14:35

Thank you @lj2022 and @Skylark1990
That makes sense, I need to do a bit more research by the sounds of it. I have had a couple of private scans just to check things are ok before going on holiday etc. but as things are getting closer I still feel nervous about where I'm going to give birth.

Cuppasoupmonster · 23/11/2022 15:15

Congrats on the scan ladies and on your baby boy Ottilie.

Well my redraw and rescan at Ultrasound Direct is at 6.30 so will update afterwards - they said they’ve had a reply from the lab and ‘have some information for me’ but want to discuss it at the clinic rather than tell me now (ffs I’m so anxious!).

Really hoping it’s just ‘so sorry we swapped your results, youre having a healthy baby boy’. 🤞🏻

Hope you get all of this sorted @Cuppasoupmonster what a nightmare!

Congratulations @OttilieKnackered 💙

MamaMenna · 23/11/2022 15:45

@Cuppasoupmonster good luck for later, nerves of steel required. Sorry you're going through this experience and hope they just made a human error rather than anything more serious.
@OttilieKnackered congrats on your boy 💙
@alwaysseeingstars I have no idea if cramping is normal or not but others here have experienced the same.
I am so stingy with money these days, totally think a few extra private scans are a nice thing to do especially if they give you peace of mind, but not something I'm doing. Except the 4d scans, while cool to see all the detail, they creep me out tbh, although maybe it's adorable if it's your own baby 😄

Cuppasoupmonster · 23/11/2022 15:49

Just another day in my frankly bizarre life I said to DH earlier 😭

@Cuppasoupmonster just catching up and wow, what a rollercoaster!! Let us know how you get on later xx

DBS94 · 23/11/2022 16:13

Ladies, bit of a random one but I've noticed I've been getting random marks on my tummy recently. Photo attached, this started off as a small spot looking mark and now seems to be growing. Does it look like a stretch mark or just some irritated skin?I've not got much of a bump so not convinced it is a stretch mark tbh. Unsure if to give the GP a call just to have it looked over - anyone had anything similar? X

Gilm0reGirl · 23/11/2022 17:12

Good luck @Cuppasoupmonster hope you get some reassurance tonight

BeingHappy · 23/11/2022 18:03

Thinking of you @Cuppasoupmonster 💐

cheekysausage · 23/11/2022 18:32

Best of luck at your appointment @Cuppasoupmonster

ancienthouse · 23/11/2022 18:54

I had my GTT this morning and I was a bit worried but my results came back well below the threshold so hopefully I won't have to do it again at 24 weeks now!

Hope you get some answers this evening @Cuppasoupmonster good luck!

LauraA31 · 23/11/2022 19:13

Thinking of you @Cuppasoupmonster hope that you get good news! Xx

Tubbytele · 23/11/2022 19:18

@Cuppasoupmonster thinking of you, hope all the anxiety is relieved and it was a human error. Take it easy and sending you a hug.

Hope everyone else is doing well this evening. I've started getting some dry skin peeling from my right breast, never had this with my first but was so surprised to see it this morning. Also my bump is so weird this time. I had a smooth D belly curve with first but with this one I've got a B belly curve, has to be because I'm on the heavier side😂

Cuppasoupmonster · 23/11/2022 19:26

Hi all! Just had a rescan and the sonographer concurred definitely a boy 💙

We’ve had another blood test and will see what that says. All being well it will just say boy and we can chalk the first one up to a fluke. If it says girl… further investigations needed!

Im feeling a little bit better, it was nice seeing his little face in 4D (looks just like DH!), I just want some reassurance the first test was human error of some kind.

OP posts:
Peachesthecat · 23/11/2022 19:34

A really positive update @Cuppasoupmonster 😊 a beautiful boy on the way! I’m sure the results will just further confirm everything for you xx how long do you have to wait?
