Wow your picture is so clear! Mine looks like a blob!

allfurcoatnoknickers · 18/11/2022 18:29

God the cannula was the absolute worst, most painful part of my c-section. Apparently they're not supposed to hurt the whole time they're in?! But mine did - stabing pain every time I moved my arm and the hole it made in my wrist took longer to heal than my c-section scar.

Does anyone know a less horrible place to put them than in the side of your wrist? Honestly the thought of having it put in again makes me feel a bit nauseous. It took 3 tries last time and by the time she was done I was in tears of pain. Back of the hand maybe?

SearchingTheSkies · 18/11/2022 18:52

Had my 20 week scan yesterday and we found out we're having a girl. So excited! Your nub guesses were spot on @Skylark1990 and @Cuppasoupmonster

The scan itself was all good, no issues found, but when I had the piece of paper given to me with all the percentiles, her head is right at the bottom, around 5th percentile, whereas her other measurements are more around the 30th percentile. The sonographer said it's nothing to worry about as still within normal parameters, but can't help feeling like this has put a dampener on an otherwise great scan. Wondering if anyone else has had something like this?

Longbin · 18/11/2022 19:03

@SearchingTheSkies my first had head centile of 19, weight 50 and height 75. She still has a little head compared to a lot of babies but it looks in proportion for her

SearchingTheSkies · 18/11/2022 19:14

Thank you @Longbin I hope it's just a small head with no underlying issues. Always something to worry about!

Cuppasoupmonster · 18/11/2022 19:14

@SearchingTheSkies DD always had tiny legs, an average head and huge belly on scans. I think legs were 17th, head 25th and belly 75th or something like that. It’s very normal for the centiles not to correspond with each other. As your baby has the other measurements on the 30th it sounds fine to me! They would say if there was any issue - think of all the babies they scan every day!

Oh goodness I would LOVE a glass of wine right now. Or a bailey’s hot choc. Or just a bailey’s 😭 it’ll be plain hot chocolate and my sickness meds though!

@allfurcoatnoknickers I was in the hospital to be rehydrate a few weeks ago - iwas so dehydrated it took them 5 attempts. None of them were that comfortable, but the ones they tried in the backs of my hands were super painful, and I'm usually pretty pain tolerant! For about 2 weeks, the whole of the backs of both hands were just bruised, and they were failed attempts!

Best place for me was mid-forearm, as I could still bend my arm but it wasn't anywhere near as painful as hand or wrist.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 18/11/2022 21:15

@simplythequest Thanks! Maybe I'll ask about the forearm. I feel like when people talk about c-section downsides, they never talk about the agonizing bloody cannula. The whole experience pretty much gave me a needlephobia, when I was un-phased by needles before.

Longbin · 18/11/2022 21:21

I had a cannula in and didn't have a c section

Cuppasoupmonster · 18/11/2022 21:28

I had one in each hand. Still have 2 little scars!

PuddingBear · 18/11/2022 21:30

That fucking cannula hurt like a bitch. I think it was one of the most painful things that happened tbh and I had an EMCS 😅

Skylark1990 · 18/11/2022 21:34

Yep my cannula for DDs birth gave me the most epic bruise, everyone at the hospital commented on it. Hurt loads too! I think they generally have to put one in if you're on syntocinon, or need any iv meds or fluids, so often used in labour c section or vaginal birth. But I agree, they're not nice and would like to avoid if poss!

@Chocolat thank you that's really interesting and good to know. Are you a doctor/ nurse/ midwife? You sound very medically knowledgeable!

Skylark1990 · 18/11/2022 21:36

Also a tip for anyone who's baby needs a cannula after birth (hopefully no one!) But DD had one and it really got in the way of establishing breastfeeding as if was on her hand and obviously quite bulky and potentially sore for her, and it was tricky to maneuver. In the end we got it changed to in her foot and this was much better, didn't get in the way.

Gilm0reGirl · 18/11/2022 22:49

Yep the bloody cannula! The first attempt by a midwife was awful, she tried to put in the strangest place on my hand like in the groove between my thumb and index finger, hurt like a MF! I got lucky (sort of) that lovely anaesthetist was emergency buzzed into the room, along with everyone else on the ward it felt like, when DD heart rate dropped and he took over and I swear I didn’t feel a thing, he did it at such a speed, taped it up then talked to me about why they were all in the room and not to worry. Sometimes you get the odd guardian angel in these situations and he was one of mine.

MamaMenna · 19/11/2022 06:11

How much getting the canula put in hurt completely surprised me and there was so much blood. Dreading getting that again. Mine went into the back of the hand. It took them a while to get it in but there was just one hole. I still have a tiny scar. Once it was in though it was no trouble, no bruising and didn't hurt or bother me at all.

@SearchingTheSkies at my 12 week scan several of the measurements are very low percentile which worried me too but my Dr said it wasn't any issue and the important NT measurement was great. I'm still a bit concerned though and hope those body parts have caught up by next scan.

ancienthouse · 19/11/2022 07:31

I don't remember the cannula going in but I hated it being in my hand. I felt like I couldn't move my hand properly and it was pulling. Then once DS was out I had to hold him with my hand at a funny angle so it didn't hurt. I was so relieved when they took it out.

Peachesthecat · 19/11/2022 07:36

Morning ladies ❤️
huge thanks to you all who shared regarding grief and anxiety during pregnancy. I really appreciate it. It’s so hard but I’m just gonna think positively for my baby. Sorry I can’t work out how to reply individually like some of you do!
that was a beautiful scan photo too! Mines not till the 8th December 😬😬
xxx

Chocolat · 19/11/2022 08:53

@Skylark1990 yes im a doctor, not obs and gynae but did have a placement in it in the hospital I’ve chosen to give birth and it was the most horrendous and traumatic experience but somehow I feel at home there 🤣

but yes cannulas are horrendous things especially because they use the huge ones for pregnant women. Back of the hand is also painful. The least painful place is the elbow but issue with that is you can’t bend your elbow much.

AliceinSlumberland · 19/11/2022 08:57

Morning ladies, just been catching up as it’s been so busy at work this week, very glad of a quiet day today.

Totally relate to the troll like filing, given in and done a shein order of a few maternity bits so hopefully that helps. Also managed to get a dress from Matalan for my Christmas work do which looks okay and I look pregnant rather than like I’ve gained a load of weight so that’s good haha

Had my consultant appointment on Monday and all was fine, my only high risk factor is Pcos so it’s mad to me I even saw her. Bottled it asking for the ELCS but it’s on my notes as I asked at my booking in so I’ll bring it up again neater the time, my midwife assured me it would be fine.

Had my whooping cough vaccine this week - hurt more than I expected and my arm still hurts!! Been struggling a bit with my hips so rested this week as I’d had a very active weekend. Going to attempt a walk today and use my bump support thing, feels like a bit of a con as it’s not really rounded out yet so doesn’t always feel bump like!

Going pram shopping tomorrow, soooo excited!!

DBS94 · 19/11/2022 09:58

Morning ladies - happy Saturday xx

Random one from me this morning. Does this frozen Aldi pizza look ok to eat? I know we've to avoid goats cheese but I was thinking as it's cooked from frozen and then hot it should be ok? Just about to go for my food shop and we are having a pizza night. This used to be my fave but will obviously choose something else if you guys wouldn't recommend -

cata09x · 19/11/2022 10:02

@DBS94 when I googled it, it says that goats cheese on a pizza cooked is safe to eat x

Skylark1990 · 19/11/2022 10:08

@DBS94 goats cheese is fine (even uncooked) as long as it's pasteurised and not mould ripened. So feta, hard goats cheese, and soft goats cheese all fine as long as made with pasteurised milk, the ones to avoid are unpasteurised cheeses of all kind, mouldy cheeses and cheeses with a rind e.g. camembert, or the goats logs that have a rind, etc.

However, all cheeses are fine as long as cooked right through! This is what I understand to be the advice. So as long as the pizza is piping hot, it's fine. I plan to get some goats camembert for Christmas and bake it and eat it all up!

AliceinSlumberland · 19/11/2022 13:54

ughhh support band made my hips infinitely worse on my dog walk, back to square one.

LauraA31 · 19/11/2022 14:01

Late to catch up! Thank you all for telling me when you felt baby move with an anterior; i felt the smallest little rumble feeling last night before i fell asleep but it was so faint it could have been anything and it only lasted a second! 😂😂

Had a bit of a shopping day; we decided on the little green sheep moses basket. Moses basket and stand £124 in mamas and papas, i know it seems expensive but we have saved on other little bits so decided just to splash and get it! I absolutely fell in love with it in person, the one we were going to get was from an online store with not many good reviews so im glad some of you mentioned the little green sheep one!
think the boyfriend is going to be a very nice problem ha, he kept picking stuff up and saying let’s get this… i had to remind him a few times that she is not going to need a high chair or sitting play chair with loads of toys for a little while, he then found a ball pit which made me laugh 😂

I have gone straight back to rubbish sleep so going to have a chilled afternoon, some tea and try get to sleep earlier tonight to see if i can manage any sleep! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Im almost at the end of PLL and whoever said the ending was not the best was so right, i have been disappointed the whole of the seventh season! Might finish it off tonight and then find something else to watch. Hope everybody is having a good day x

AliceinSlumberland · 19/11/2022 14:40

@LauraA31 sorry i missed your question about movement, I’ve got an anterior placenta and I am 19 weeks tomorrow, just this week I’ve started having a few more what I think are movements but it’s still hard to tell, someone said it feels a bit like bubbles of wind but then there’s no fart at the end Blush but that’s been accurate for me! Also like a little fish sometimes. But it’s honestly been so fleeting, like less than 1-2 seconds and then nothing for a few hours so it’s hard to know if it’s just other body feelings! It’s been increasing though to pretty much daily so I’m thinking it is him.
