How awful for you and your Mum NEM. How old were you if you don't mind me asking...? I totally get you on the whole sterilisation/vasectomy thing. I would think that way myself and I have not been through what you have.

Glad you can go on your holiday, you will have a brill time!

EllieG · 12/02/2008 14:51

NEM - good news about your hol!

Hey velbels - on the plus side at least you get then to eat some nice cake.

It's my 30th a week after we get married - DP asked me if I wanted a party but I said no, all I will want to do is collapse. We agreed a nice family meal out with my big boy and my little girls and I will be a very happy bunny
Oh, though hinted a spa treatment with corresponding babysitting for a pressie might not be a bad option

I'm having the most fabulous afternoon snack. A raspberry tart (raspberries on custard and pastry) yum!

Mollyfloss · 12/02/2008 15:48

nice shortbread pastry, double yum!

PortAndLemon · 12/02/2008 15:59

Have you any idea what the glycaemic load of one of those is?

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 12/02/2008 16:16

yum Molly - sounds divine!

PAL - you enjoy your chickpeas and beans now!

I just had a creme egg - delicious!

Mollyfloss · 12/02/2008 16:21

glycaemic load is probably huge! sorry you can't have one PAL but then you won't have a pile of weight to shift like me after the baby comes out

You'll probably find me on a mumsnet weight support group or something not too long after the baby is born

VictorianSqualor · 12/02/2008 16:29

I got one of the emails for my free breastpump too, something to cheer me up after the horrednous night I had.
Woke up at 2am absolutely freezing, shivering and shaking but burning up, had to put the heating on top whack and put my dressing gown on and a blanket over the quilt, it was horrible, I havent felt so ill in years, thenI couldnt sleep for longer than about ten minutes so ended up getting up at five and sitting in the bath, twas the only thing that made me feel half ok.

Hospital today, they are still 'ok'ish with my VBAC plans and have said we'll just see how it goes, apparently baby is big, following the same centile, but a large one!

Also ordered my cot today so can put that up, oh and got my raspberry leaf tablets ready for D-day!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 12/02/2008 16:45

Ooh - poor you VS - sounds horrible - hope you feel better soon

Can anyone help with cot mattresses - which one to get? There are so many to choose from it makes the mind boggle!

northeastmummy · 12/02/2008 17:02

Yum scrum Molly!!

I was 8 when my sister died (she had leukaemia) and 2 months later my Dad died of a stroke. My brother actually died before I was born so I never knew him - he had meningitis. I'm fine with it all now. I just can't imagine how Mum got through it!! Anyway, she's loving having grandchildren to occupy her time .

Well, that's me off work for a week and a half - thank goodness! I'll try and log in tomorrow and see how you're all doing but it's likely I won't be on much now before I get back from hols. I'll miss you all!

Mollyfloss · 12/02/2008 17:39

Your Mum sounds amazing. It seems you have coped so well. My life fell apart two years ago when my Dad died and yet somehow life just goes on and here I am married and preggers.

Anyway, have a fab holiday!!!!

ruty · 12/02/2008 17:51

your grandchildren must be very precious to your mum northeastmummy.
VS, I was contemplating a VBAC but don't think i'm up to it. Seems to be lots of MNers who have done it tho so you should feel encouraged!

ruty · 12/02/2008 17:52

i mean her grandchildren!

ruty · 12/02/2008 17:52

christmaspixie · 12/02/2008 18:09

Anyone else seem to suddenly have a humungous appetite? I'm 31 weeks, and thought I was doing okay, but have now gained 1 and half stone and sent DH out today to buy 3 cadbury's creme eggs!! (Haven't liked those since I was a kid!) I seem to have started eating constantly ALL day! Being at home all day (self-employed) really doesn't help. Looks like it will be 3 stone weight gain again for me!! Oh and anyone else getting peed off with people commenting on the size of your bump? I either get- ooh you've got a lovely neat bump and haven't put on weight anywhere else, or blimey you're HUGE!! What a rollercoaster!

VictorianSqualor · 12/02/2008 19:07

They dont want me to have one ruty, because I have abnormal blood flow from my placenta, normally that would mean indcution at 38weeks, but because I've had 2CS's I cant be induced so they want to book me in for a CS instead, thankfully my consultant isn't a 'you'll do as we tell you' type so she is 'supporting' (for want of a better word) me in the VBA2C.
With DS (DC2) I was told there was no way I could possibly have a VBAC so was forced into an el cs

Peachy · 12/02/2008 19:10

My appetite has completely gone- managed a proper dinner tonight (sausage casserole and salad) but that was first time in ages.

It ahs to be vasectomy or sterilisation for us as I can't take hormonal methods, and we'd be too likely to give in to temptation and oh, just have another baby..... otherwise! LOL. Which would be horrendously unfair on DS2 if he turned out to be the only NT one and needed to care for goodness knows how many!

Besides I feel way too old to do thsi again (am 34).

ruty · 12/02/2008 19:21

you're too old Peachy? Ha ha ha. [but then again i'm not on my 4th, that must be pretty, er, character defining!]
VS- much admiration for going for what you want. I'd love to try for a VBAC, but after last time when everything went a bit wrong [though ds thankfully is ok]I'm just not brave enough and i think my pelvis [smashed it up as a kid when hit by a car] isn't up to the job! Did you have the Doppler Uterine scan then? I had it and there was a question mark about placental blood flow so they are monitoring [and scanning] me ever 2 weeks till the birth now. Baby seems ok thankfully.

VictorianSqualor · 12/02/2008 19:31

Yeah, I have the doppler and bloods etc every two weeks, pain in the bum but at least I know baby is growing.

Denny185 · 12/02/2008 19:51

Evening all

NEM, glad your dd better and your off on your hols, have a fab break with lots of R and R. No wonder you have tose feelings re permanent sterilisation what a story. I dont get the whole night garden thing either, but then find in marginally better than teletubbies which dd was into at that age.

Half term this week and Im knackered, yesterday walk, McDs, cinema and bike ride, today morning at farm, picnic and bike ride. Glad to be back at work for rest of week could do with a break from the physical activity!!

Regarding cot mattresses someone asked I would go for an decent spring one like this http://www.mothercare.com/gp/product/B000LDALQY/sr=1-2/qid=1202847372/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2 KZUGQ&n=42826041&mcb=core here I know I wouldnt want to sleep on hard foam so why would your baby

Well I am now 30 gosh where have the last ten years gone! had a lovely birthday got loads of lovely prezzies! although had my hospital visit on Saturday which didnt go well the lady showing us around was really negative and spend an hour telling us what we cant do in the end I couldnt keep quite when she said we were not allowed to walk along the corridor with the baby in our arms it had to be in the cot thing I flipped saying something along the lines of "thats it I am going home I am not listerning to any more of this crap if I want to walk along holding MY baby I believe thats up to me" then stormed out leaving 5 couples staring in shock! oh also DH cant sit on the bed due to infection I understand they dont like people sitting on the bed but what infect does my DH have in his bum (dont answer that) but hayho My DH thought it was very funny and proceeded in telling everyone I had got us bard from the hospital!

Only a stone and a half christmaspixie - you're lucky - 2 stone and counting for me
I lost 2 pounds recently when had tummy pains which I thought got worse when I ate, but have now worked out they just hurt all the time so have gone back to eating like a piggy [sigh]. And gained several more pounds. Have NO willpower and am going to have to lose humungous amounts after.

Have a nice hol NEM! x
