Yeah am OK today thanks- NAS lady ahd a few ideas for holidays chemes etc so fingers crossed!.

We're getting this to have for the first few months, with the crib downstairs probably (coz of boys can't put baby upstairs whren I am not there anyway). Will be handy for camping too i think, and take up a lot less apces in the car too (will find out tomorrow evening if our offer has been accepted on the 'new'(PMSL- 1999!) one we want).

You can get crib size blankets in mothercare, but other tricks are either to run elastic underneath to make the flat sheets fitted, or to pop th amttress inside a pillow case instead (I do similar with ds3- he cant keep a sheet on so his toddler bed mattress goes inside a single cuvet cover, works a treat).

Does depend on size though I guess.

D is going to have a vasectomy after this baby, he would rather I was sterilised but Im high risk for heart disease (family genetics) and osteoporosis (dairy free diet) so not recommended, plus post op rest? Here? Yeah right LOL!

Peachy · 12/02/2008 12:40

Ruty- sounds scary with break in! Did they gaina ccess or was it all OK? Would scare life out of me though!

Mum2b2BabyRoo · 12/02/2008 13:03

Oooh - I just had an email from the MAM breast pump people saying I got one! (Someone posted a link the other day telling us about this and I entered!) I LOVE free stuff!!

EllieG · 12/02/2008 13:30

V exciting! I signed up for that but have bought one now anyway as forgot about it, but doesn't look like they've emailed anyway.
Good thinking about sheets stretching - I will have a look around. Those are my last big things to get, apart from a nappy bin. Cot have DSD's and crib made by my grandpa for me and my sis so that cuts out two purchases.

Peachy, no, really??? How can I put an end to this child-bearing phase I seem to be stuck in? It's going to have to be the "nuts between the bricks" plan - or no sex ever again

sagitta · 12/02/2008 13:33

sorry, P&L, not Peachy...

PortAndLemon · 12/02/2008 13:34

I've won one too! I didn't think I had but then checked my other email account (must have registered with that one instead).

EllieG · 12/02/2008 13:34

You could both have it done?

OP posts:
ruty · 12/02/2008 13:34

they didn't get in Peachy but we heard noises and the blind going up and down, then a flashlight across the bed, Dh jumped out and caught them running away and the window wide open. They caught three guys with gloves, a tool kit and a flashlight moments from our place within about 5 mins of my call but had to release them after weekend and only put one on bail because he had a camera on him that was identified from another local robbery - even with that they could only get him for handling stolen goods.

EllieG · 12/02/2008 13:36

Thats a bit rubbish isn't it? Well at least they got one for something I suppose, though seems a bit unfair.

PortAndLemon · 12/02/2008 13:37

If it's any consolation, sagitta, they are/were all very cute babies

Both having it done may be your best option if you're super-fertile...

SuzeM · 12/02/2008 13:39

That's awful, Ruty.

Should I buy a cot or a cot bed???

northeastmummy · 12/02/2008 13:43

Jeepers - you've exceeded yourselves! I wasn't able to get online yesterday and I come back today to FIVE PAGES of catch up!!!

Hi there Ruty - hope you're enjoying MN. That's horrible news about your attempted break in. I'm not surprised you're not sleeping very well.

SuzeM - could you not use your travel cot initially in your room? We had a moses basket for DD and she grew out of it in 6 weeks. We used the carry cot from our pram for sleeping in sometimes and her travel cot from time to time. We'll probably use the moses basket again this time but only because we have it. It was the biggest waste of money IMO.

Denny - what is the deal with night garden? DD comes running as soon as she hears the theme tune - then disappears off to get her upsy daisy to watch with. I just don't get it??

Knitter - we have a quinny carry cot and the moses basket sized fitted sheets fit perfectly.

Sheds - I have several changing bags but I actually think I'd prefer a big bag I could throw everything into without the faff of numerous pockets, thermal bits, changing mats etc getting in the way. Especially when baby gets older and there are toys and books to fit in too.

PortAndLemon · 12/02/2008 13:43

If you are only planning on having one (which I think you are, aren't you, Suze?) then I'd go for a cot that converts into a cot bed / toddler bed.

northeastmummy · 12/02/2008 13:48

I agree with PAL Sheds. Try and think about how it'll work in the long term. We had a huge debate about this but because we knew we wanted another pretty quickly we got a cot and have transferred DD1 into a bed so the cot is now available for DD2.

SuzeM · 12/02/2008 13:50

Yes, only the one is the plan for now.

NEM, good idea.

northeastmummy · 12/02/2008 13:53

On the subject of more babies, I'd like another but have yet to persuade DH (I can sympathise Scorpio!). I had DD1 at 33 and will be 35 when DD2 is born so figure I now have a few years to work on him. It's funny because it wasn't until the day after DD1 was born that I decided I wanted two more. Up until then I probably would have stopped at one!!

I'm a bit morbid about the whole sterilisation/vasectomy options. It all just feels so final to me. I can absolutely understand why some people choose that route but I just worry about me and both DDs meeting some awful fate and DH being left with no option of starting again. I know it can be reversed but it's not always successful. I think it's because I lost my Dad, brother and sister when I was young so Mum was left alone with me and I so badly wanted her to start a new life. She never did ... but I suppose at least she had the option.

northeastmummy · 12/02/2008 14:09

On a happier note - DD1 has managed to kick the chicken pox's butt ... so our holiday is definitely on!! We fly off on Thursday morning. Phew!

scorpio1 · 12/02/2008 14:23

i will never get sterilised unless it will save my life.DH won't have a vasectomy ever and TBH i dont think i would like it if he wanted one. I wonder if i will ever know i have had enough?? Maybe i think i want more becuase Millie isnt here yet

Ellie - dont waste money on a nappy bin for disposables, just chuck em in the bin. Refills are £££ and you dont really need it. if its the smell that worries you get scented nappy bags much cheaper and more useful, especially when out and about and no bin.

sagitta · 12/02/2008 14:24

NEM - what a sad tale - I am so sorry...I have thought about that, but as I didn't want dcs anyway, and I'm getting on a bit, I am pretty sure for me. Less sure for DH.

So glad about the pox and the holiday!

Sheds75 · 12/02/2008 14:26

NEM really pleased about the holiday, hope you enjoy!

SuzeM · 12/02/2008 14:27

Northeastmummy, that must have been horrendous for you and your mother.

Glad your dd is better. Have a great holiday!

velbels · 12/02/2008 14:27

Hi everyone! Its taken me ages to catch up you have been chatty. I got one of those pumps too

On the sublect of more kids i expect we will, as this is our first but i reserve the right to change my mind!

I'm making a cake for DH 30th but selfishly would rather be in bed

NEMum glad you can go away hope you have a fab time.

Hi Ruty, sorry to hear about your break in, hope you manage to get some sleep soon.

northeastmummy · 12/02/2008 14:43

I'm really impressed at how many free breast pumps we've managed to get on this board! What a boost - I missed out this time but will definitely keep my eyes peeled for any more of these handy links .
