Congratulations Pazza ... what wonderful news and lovely names ... and great weights! You seem to be doing well and I'm delighted to hear you're recovering so well from your section.

Great to hear you managed to get home after 3 nights - hope to do the same myself.

They sound like little darlings - I'm sure you look at them and can't believe it. Well done with the breastfeeding ... I put a post on the breastfeeding board yesterday re tips for b'feeding twins and the advice is definitely to start off feeding one at a time until feeding is established. You're doing great!

Enjoy every minute

Just wondering whether Neenz has had her babies yet ... I haven't seeen her around for a few days. Hope all is well

LauraT · 09/05/2008 14:46

popped in from the due in June thread to let you know Neenz had her babies on Tuesday and was home the next day, Theo weighing 6lb and Esther 4lb 5oz (think that's right) full story on the due June thread, but sure she'll be here soon to let you all know!

belgo · 09/05/2008 15:43

Congratulations to Neenz!!!! I've vaguely followed her story, and I'm glad all is well.

millie1 · 09/05/2008 16:02

millie1 · 09/05/2008 21:48

That sounds great Twinkle ... isn't it lovely to see them .

How're you feeling generally? I'm 36+2 now and feel like it's a real effort to walk, my feet are swollen like two great balloons and my legs hurt from the weight of my bump! Less than 2 weeks for me - and I really don't want them to choose to come early!

Neenztwinz · 10/05/2008 17:17

Hi all - yes I have had the twins!!!

Congrats Pazza too!!!

They are just perfect - sleeping soundly now. Feeding brilliantly.

I had them on Tuesday - Theo at 10pm and Esther at 10.09. I had pretty much exactly the birth I wanted, except Theo had to be delivered with forceps because I just couldn't push him out!! I was glad of it in the end though cos i just wanted it to be over, and the stitches are not too sore. Esther delivered normally - she is a lot smaller. Theo was 6lb, Esther 4lb 7oz, but both are healthy, no need for special care and we were discharged from the hospital less than 48 hours after they were born. Got home at 5pm Thurs.

The birth/labour experience was nothing like I expected - much more painful than I had anticipated (but apparently it is more painful if your waters break early cos there is nothing cushioning the head of the baby - and I had my waters broken to start labour - which it did within 30 mins). I only had gas and air but I was ready for an epidural by about two hours into it cos I was on antenatal ward, no gas and air, just a tens machine which was quite useful but not that effective! I was in so much pain I didn;t think I could possibly manage hours and hours of it.

But then I got in the bath with gas and air and as soon as I started breathing deeply on the gas I really relaxed. It was still painful but much easier to manage. I was pretty out of it and DH was amazing. Said all the right things (basically 'breathe' and 'you're doing so well'). I was 3cm dilated when I had my waters broke and when I got out of the bath after three hours I was 9cm!

The MW said I had to get out of the bath and said 'if you are still only 3cm dilated...' I said 'I'M HAVING AN EPIDURAL IF I AM STILL ONLY 3CM!!!'. But she said all her women get out of the bath at least 7cm... and I was so chuffed to be 9cm.

That was at 5.30pm and I thought I was nearly there but the last 1cm took three hours!! I was still on the gas and air and on the heart monitors because I really didn't want to move around at that stage, just wanted to sit up. So I didn't mind them putting the belts on. But there was never any problem with the heartbeats, they were both very content in there!

So at 8.30pm I was ready to push but I just didn't feel the sensation to push. I was off the gas and air then so the contractions can't have been strong cos I spent an hour pushing without any pain relief. I pushed but I could feel he just wasn't moving down (I was even on my knees at one point but still nothing) and after an hour the consultant (the one who had looked after us all the way through the pregnancy and the one who gave us the Clomid which made the twins) came in saved me! The forceps delivery was quite painful, I was back on the gas and air by then, but I was just glad it was nearly over. It was quite quick so a bit of pain was OK. After Theo was delivered Esther just slid out really!!!

Everyone at the hospital (Ormskirk) was amazing, they really worked hard to give me the birth I wanted even though lots of things were against protocol for a twin birth (eg letting me stay in the bath so long and not continually monitoring the heartbeats during the first stage). They kept telling me how amazing I was to be giving birth to twins with just gas and air - but it was just like giving birth to one baby really as Esther came out so quick.

And the babies are just WOW!!! They are so good, a bit restless and hungry in the night, but I got them to tandem feed yesterday which was so much easier. They were still up feeding a lot last night but I wasn't as tired as the night before because I'd rested well yesterday. Thurs was tiring cos we were discharged from hospital. I don't mind any of it though - they are worth it and I am really not feeling that tired. It's the hormones!!! My mum has been here as well helping and she has been great. She took them both at 7am yesterday and this morning and looked after them while me and DH had two hours sleep. Godsend!!!

Tandem feeding has gone a bit wrong today cos Theo is not feeding as much as Esther, but MW is happy with them and says she is feeding more cos she is catching up cos she is so much smaller. My milk has started to come in today so they are feeding a bit less. I think that is normal.

Check out the pic on my profile!!!

millie1 · 10/05/2008 20:40

Congrats again Neenz ... they're absolutely beautiful. You must be so proud .

Sounds like the feeding is going really well ... I'm working my way through Mothering Multiples at the moment and they do say that one twin might feed more than the other but not to worry so your midwife is probably right.

How are night-times going? Any sleep to be had - bet you're getting more than when pregnant?!

Neenztwinz · 10/05/2008 21:30

Nights are pretty tough so far cos they seem to feed little and often from about 2am till 7am! But if I get a good kip before 2am I can cope with napping then as the night goes on. I probably got more sleep when I was pregnant, but I am not as uncomfortable now (apart from the stitches!). But each night is different, last night was better than the night before so hopefully tonight will be better again! Will keep you posted.

Neenztwinz · 11/05/2008 11:45

Hi April - good luck with your pregnancy. Twins are a blessing - God only gives them to women who can cope with them!

I am so made up with mine... we had quite a good night last night - I had three hours sleep broken down into three lots of one hour, but I feel great so that is obviously enough.

My milk has come in too and it has made me feel very clever - I know it is only nature but it is so satisfying to be able to feed them so well. They are both sleeping now!

Lulumama · 11/05/2008 12:08

neenz, am so glad for you ! and glad that the birth was so positive and what you wanted! welcome to your beautiful babies and and big congratulations. enjoy xxxxx

PazzaPlusTwo · 14/05/2008 15:19

Who's next?!

Carmen and Anais are doing really well, still bf-ing them both (cue lots of admiration from midwives)

Have been having a dream babymoon for 2 1/2 weeks, the girls are being dah-lings ... DH goes back to work next Monday so then we'll really see how I cope!

xx Pazza

millie1 · 16/05/2008 19:30

Hi All

I saw my consultant yesterday (37w) ... both babies look great and section is scheduled for next Thursday - yikes! Will be glad really to get it over cos feet are like balloons, bump weighs a tonne and I'm exhausted! Hope they don't decide to come before that as Cons is away until Thurs morning! Both are head down, one almost engaged and both lying at an angle IYSWIM.

Glad to hear Neenz and Pazza are going so well. And welcome to April. I'm like you Twinkle ... I'm convinced I'm having boys!

PazzaPlusTwo · 17/05/2008 15:14

PazzaPlusTwo · 20/05/2008 14:53

my CS was at 36+5 - that was definitely long enough!

am totally enjoying the peace and quiet at the mo - my Mum wanted to come and stay for a few days but I'm glad I asked her to come later - girls asleep most of the day anyway.

we registered their births yesterday - tomorrow I have my first trip to the hospital with them on my own! (Anais still has a touch of jaundice.) Taking one in the Baby Bjorn carrier and t'other in a lightweight single buggy we got from Argos for 40 quid cos we couldn't decide which of the £600-monster-doubles-that-don't-fit-thru-the-door-anyway to go for. cheapskate, moi?...

twinkle1 · 20/05/2008 15:38

Pazza,

Neenztwinz · 23/05/2008 18:58

Hi all, just checking in to say babies are two and a half weeks old now and bloody hard work during the night!!!

I have been suffering major baby blues the last couple of days - Theo cried and fed and fed from 10pm till 6am on Tues. I was knackered. I had been doing too much and not resting enough and he was going through a growth spurt so it all combined into a nightmare. But at least he put on 10oz in a week! That made it all feel worth it. Esther gained just 3oz, but MW said both gains were good, as long as they are gaining. Since Tuesday I have just been resting and trying to get my milk back up. Mum has been here looking after me.

I had my first "OMG what have I done I have totally ruined my life by having these babies" moment yesterday. My sisters warned me I might feel that way. I burst into tears yesterday at the thought of my mum going home so she stayed a second night, but we didn't need her, although it was still a tough night.

It is just so hard during the night. It takes an hour to change, feed and settle both babies (if I am lucky. Sometimes it takes longer if one or the other won't settle). Then they are awake one to two hours later wanting to feed again.

DH can't help during the week cos he has such a demanding job and gets very ill when he is tired and rundown, so I am on my own. But at least he will be able to help tonight and tomorrow. And my mum is going to come every Wed to look after me from now on.

I have been douing far too much, not resting enough - I have learned my lesson totally.

I know it will get easier as the weeks go on, and I am feeling much more positive now after a few days' good rest. I had an hour's nap this morn and an hour this aft and that is what I am going to do from now on.

MarsLady · 23/05/2008 19:00

Neenz... rest baby girl. Rest! I know you know that but can I simply say REST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done on the weight gains!

MerryMarigold · 23/05/2008 19:29

Hello y'all. I am expecting triplets, sometime in October - if I can hang on that long!. (I'm already pretty huge at 15 weeks) I'd love to join you new mums and preggie mums. I have a son already who is 2.5. Just checking out people's profile pics, so cute. Makes me long for mine, and yet quite terrified too. I know I'll manage, because you have to, but would like to stay sane enough to enjoy them too! I had such a great time with my first, mostly we wore pyjamas all day!
