twinkle

modsaluk · 29/02/2008 09:26

Wow twinkle, i keep wondering how i am going to cope with three children under three but think it will just come naturally and i will just get on with things as and when they happen.

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 29/02/2008 17:42

Hi Twinkle! We found out at 20 weeks we were having a boy, but they couldn't tell the other one. We have another scan next Thursday so I hope to find out then. I think twins is surprise enough without waiting till they are born to find out what they are. Are yours non-ids then?

I am huge too - I went to Pilates last night and there was a woman there almost as fat as me (but not quite) and she was two weeks away from her due date . I am only 27 weeks PG. I am doing OK at the mo but dread to think what I will be like in 6/8/10 weeks!!

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 29/02/2008 17:44

Oops, didn't realise we had gone on to a second page so missed your post mods. Hi!

So did they arrive today or not ?

modsaluk · 29/02/2008 19:53

No never arrived today, think i will probably end up going to my due date, i am really tired now one of the babies is head down but not properly engaged so causing quite a bit of pain when i am walking etc.

Part of me hopes they come very soon but there is a part of me that wants them to stay in there as long as possible to make sure they have the best chance and dont have to stay in hospital too long.

Hope you are all well.

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 02/03/2008 14:30

Yeah I know what you mean. I am 27 weeks now and starting to feel aches and pains from the weight I am carrying. I have gone from 9st to 11st 5 which I am happy with but proportionally is quite a jump. I am counting down to 37 weeks but I know lots of non-ids come later than that, and in a way I hope mine do. I want them to be fully cooked! Are you feeling nervous Modsaluk? Are these your first?

twinkle1 · 03/03/2008 08:10

Morning girls,
Just wondered ??? i got weighed this morning and i have put on 7lbs!!! im 19 weeks now is this too much????
twinkle

PazzaPlusTwo · 03/03/2008 15:07

Hello

Twinkle ... 7lbs in how long?

I feel like I'm putting on 7lb a week! DH says I have stretch marks on my bum!!! I told him to keep helpful observations like that to himself in future.

Hee hee I'm at work but since I work for myself and no-one can see my screen I can do what I like.... (not that anyone will pay me for it!!! )

I could so do with stopping work. I am taking the rest of my holiday now a couple of days a week at a time. To make up for the working weekends and late nights recently.

I'm 28+5 by the way, non-id twin girls on the way, scan tomorrow, hoping for natural birth in hospital as long as one has her head down.

Ooh I'm getting kicked!

twinkle1 · 03/03/2008 15:12

Hi Pazza,
i have put 7lbs since getting pg but i was very sick in the beggining. Two girls how lovely!!! do you have any other children or are they your first???
Twinkle

modsaluk · 03/03/2008 20:42

Hi Neen, not feeling nervous about the birth, i suppose i just feel that they have to come out somehow and if the doctors tell me i have to have them one way or the other then thats what will happen, i have no real choice in how they come out.

I already have a 2 and a half year old boy so the only thing i am nervous about really is how i am going to cope when they arrive. i am having to take a career break as child care etc will be too expensive.

Everyday my dad, grandma and mother in law call to see if i have had any twinges, getting on my nerves a little now.

Is it true that Non Identicals come later ?

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 04/03/2008 12:46

Twinkle - everyone is different with weight gain and I suppose it depends what weight you were to begin with but 7lbs is definitely not too much!

By 19 weeks I'd put on nearly 2st!I have put on 2st 5lbs altogether now (in 23 weeks ? I am 27+5) but was only 9st to begin with. Just eat when you are hungry and try not to eat empty calories and your weight gain will be just fine.

Pazza you are exactly a week ahead of me! I have my 28 week scan on Thursday - hope to find out the sex of the other baby (one's a boy) and hopefully will have first twin head down too as I really want a natural birth.

Make sure you ask the hospital to provide you with their protocol for twin birth so then if there is anything on there you don't like eg how they are going to monitor you, you can tell them. I imagine twin births are really highly 'managed' and I don't want to be. With non-ids I don't see why it should be any different to any birth as they both have their own placentas.

Modsa - I'm sure you'll be fine. God only gives twins to women who can cope with them! Non-ids tend to come later only because ids are often induced/c-section early because of the risk of t2tt. I think if they were left to their own devices it would be similar although you'd think with non-ids they might come sooner because there must be less room in there with two placentas instead of one!

PazzaPlusTwo · 06/03/2008 16:13

Hi Neenz

Scan was great - DTs are nearly 3lb each! DD1 has got to turn round at some point tho. Am feeling pretty good about the hospital's attitude actually, they 'do a lot of twins and don't seem remotely fazed by it, try to keep it simple and natural and midwife-led as much as possible.

Hi Twinkle

Yes they are my first. It's been going pretty well so far. I am getting 'the hunger' again tho ... by 19 weeks I had put on a stone, by 24 weeks it was two! I haven't dared weigh myself since then!!! A lot is in my fat puffy legs from water retention - really not sexy. But I feel fine, really good, happy and excited.

twinkle1 · 06/03/2008 16:20

Pazza,
Glad the scan went so well I have a scan next friday,i can't wait. They said i may be there for over an hour!!(I might fall asleep if i lay still for that long
If you work when are you thinking of going on maternity leave????? im trying to decide how long i can continue???
twinkle

PazzaPlusTwo · 06/03/2008 16:44

I work for myself (with a friend) so on the one hand I'm flexible, but on the other it's really hard to just stop when I know that if I don't do something my business partner will have to, the business is only young and I really want there to be a business to go back to!

I have officially said 21st April (36 wks) but end of March is looking more likely. I am already doing 4-day weeks and a few late mornings here and there. That's the good thing about working for myself I can start late and catch up another evening or weekend. OK what really happens is I work most weekends when I should be relaxing or buggy shopping...

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 09/03/2008 13:47

Hi Pazza, glad the scan went well. 3lbs at 29 weeks is great! I had my scan at 28 weeks on Thursday and mine are both between 2 and 2 and a half pounds (1.1kg and 1.3kg I think he said). They said that was very healthy even for singletons. And we found out the other twin is a girl!! We already knew we were having a boy so we are thrilled. I would have been happy with anything though.

DT1 is head down for me but DT2 is breech. They didn't think that would be a problem, as long as DT1 stays head down. Are yours both breech? The obs did say he recommended an epidural in case DT2 doesn't turn after DT1 comes out. He says if I have had an ep then he can deliver her breech but if not then I might end up with c-section. So I asked if I can get hooked up for the ep but not actually have the drugs (unless I want them) until after DT1 is born and only if Dt2 is still breech. He said that was fine so I am really happy with that, cos I want a natural birth if poss. I am getting a hypnobirthing book/CD this week so hope that helps. But I fear once the ep line is in I might not be able to resist the drugs! I have told DH he has to try to talk me out of it if I say I want it!

What did the hospital say to you about the birth and drugs etc?

Twinkle, I am supposed to work for another four weeks (I'll be 32 weeks then) but I am finding its getting quite uncomfortable sitting at my desk and driving. I am already down to four day weeks a wee which is helping loads but dont know if I'll be able to go for more than another fortnight. What do you do? They can't force you to start maternity until 36 weeks (it used to be 28 weeks) so if you need to take time off sick then do it, it won't affect your mat leave.

Pazza, it must be tough working for yourself! Make sure you relax though!!

millie1 · 09/03/2008 21:39

Hi All

Can I join please? I'm 27+4 with non-ID twins. Have a 4 yr old & 6 yr old too. Finding this a really tough preg - everything aches, have had strange tingling/pins & needles episodes and what's bugging me most of all, have no stamina and haven't had for weeks - can't stand for more than a couple of mins before I have to sit down for a rest . These will be delivered by c-section - consultant is hoping I'll get to 37-38 wks. Next apt & scan is at 39wks on 20 Mar.

I've been off work for last 6 wks. GP has told me not to go back and will give me another 4. Has the law changed re mat leave starting at 28w? If so, brilliant!

PazzaPlusTwo · 10/03/2008 16:26

Hi Millie! Great to have you with us

I am hoping to avoid epidural if at all possible (remind me of that in labour!) ... in fact if no-one comes within 5 miles of me with a needle that would be fantastic. Watched a fab DVD 'Multiples in the Womb' at the weekend and even watched the birth section, it was all fine even watching natural twin birth and quads by c-section in glorious technicolour ... but nearly swooned at one very short shot of a needle going into someone's hand. Argh, I am totally allergic to needles.

I would love to be have a very mobile labour with water and low lights and the least fuss possible, but most important is that we all go home in one piece (three pieces?) even if it means terrifying big needles in the spine and drips and things YUK YUK YUK I'm sure I will forget about it afterwards when I'm marvelling at how brilliant our daughters' poos are.

twinkle1 · 10/03/2008 17:21

Hi Millie,
Yep im finding it hard with 3 older ones, and builders and lots of decorating to do feel like its never ending......there just isnt enough time.
twinkle

PazzaPlusTwo · 10/03/2008 21:27

outinthesticksmummy · 11/03/2008 11:19

Hello

Goodness lots of new faces!!

So sorry but i've got to be really quick, so won't be able to catch up properly til later on.

Had our scan on Friday and found out we are having twin girls!!!! already have a 2 1/2yr old dd, poor DH went a bit white!! noticed someone else having girls too, will have to swap notes! Twin 2 has low lying placenta but they reckon that often moves up, will see in my next few scans. Am currently 21 + 6 and am feeling very achey and heavy already.

Must dash, DH hogging the study at the mo, but will be back to catch up soon - promise!

Neenzandhertwinbeans · 11/03/2008 13:21

Hi Millie - glad to see you found us! There are a few of us on 27/28/29 weeks - are you guys on the due in May thread? I am on due in June and the only one having twins there. Was due June 1, now May 29.

Millie, yeah, they can't make you start your mat leave until 36 weeks now, which I think is fab.

Pazza, have they said you don't have to have an epidural? I am not bothered about water birth but my hospital says it "contraidicative" for twins (although I haven't asked so they might allow it) so would be interested to know what they have told you at your hosp. I want to be mobile and have as little intervention as poss too. Which hosp are you having yours at?

At least with the ep needle you can't see it going in and you are totally numb in the area. But I feel for you having a needle phobia. I just want us all to get home in one piece too!

Congrats on your girls outinthesticks! That is lovely news. Any names?

I have been struggling a bit these last few days and feeling very grateful I don't have any other children! Respect to all you ladies looking after older kids too. Everyone keeps joking that I'll have twins again next time - please no!!! I hope the next pregnancy will be a breeze compared to this one, not that this has been too bad. I am just so heavy now, it is an effort to get off the sofa and I struggle to bend down to pick anything off the floor. Only eight weeks or so to go now though!

millie1 · 11/03/2008 19:49

Hi everyone

Thanks for the welcome!

Pazza ... hope you get the labour you want without the epidural. It would be lovely for you.

Twinkle ... these are number 4 and 5 for you? Wow! Know what you mean about the builders but not the decorating and keeping up with older children ... we've just started building a house. Timing could be better in one way but in another way it's perfect. Good luck for your scan on Friday.

Outinthesticks - Congrats on your girls. Hopefully your placenta will move up - one of mine was lowish at 20w but well out of the way by 26w.

Neenz - my official due date is 5 June but 37/38w is my target. Has your due date been changed based on scans? When do you hope to deliver - are you hoping to go all the way? Glad to hear I'm not the only one who struggles to bend down ... turning in bed is also a marathon task. I've a physio apt tomorrow morning and hope she will give me some sort of support for my enormous bump.
