My twins are due in May and it would be nice to have other multiple-mums-to-be to chat to!

Neenz - I LOVE that orange jumper Theo is wearing. Can you pass it on to me? Orange is my favourite colour (or if you bought it, please tell where - it looks nice and home-made though).

turtle23 · 23/05/2008 19:38

Merry-Was just browsing through and noticed you like orange. I was just about to freecycle an orange boy's jacket (sort o a gilet with detachable sleeves) that someone gave me because I hate orange. I think it was worn once and is about 3-4 months. Want it? Sorry for the hijack!

MerryMarigold · 23/05/2008 19:47

oh YEAH, i would love it. but how can you possibly hate orange???!! how would i get it? can i pay you on paypal?

turtle23 · 23/05/2008 19:55

Email me your details on sarahturtlehopewell at gmail dot com and i will just post it to you. My good deed for the day.

PazzaPlusTwo · 23/05/2008 20:08

Neenz hope you're feeling better. I think your reaction is pretty normal and understandable, I've had my ups and downs too.

Take Mars' advice! Remember we're working hard in between feeds too making the milk.

I don't have any other kids so I go back to sleep after their 7/8am feed and don't emerge till at least 10am. The other day I had to get up early and go to the hospital, I was shattered when I got back and had to have 2 paracetamol and an afternoon kip.

I have about two good nights followed by one crap one on average. It also takes me an hour at least to get them both fed and changed. It can be pretty hard to keep awake while feeding at 3am, no? I read that when the babies feed your body releases hormones that make you sleepy! I tried feeding lying down on my side but I felt like I was about to nod off and roll onto her - so I prefer to be sat up in bed and a bit more awake.

Do you occasionally wake up and panic that one's died? I still do but not every night. DH does too.

If you want to compare notes by phone let me know and I'll post my number.

Neenztwinz · 25/05/2008 12:06

Hi pazza, yes everything you say is so true!! If I feel really tired when feeding them I get up now and come downstairs to watch TV cos it wakes me up, I am terrified of falling asleep and smothering them. I also wake up with a start thinking I am lied on one of them!

We had quite a good night last night - like you say sometimes they are good, sometimes bad, but I am a happy mum again today!

Neenztwinz · 25/05/2008 12:08

Merry - welcome! Good luck with the triplets. It is so expensive but if you can, save as much money as you can and get help in for the nights when your babies are born. Unless you can get a family member to help - or even a rota of helpers!!

twinkle1 · 25/05/2008 16:14

Hi girls,
Sorrry i have been missing in action I went into prem labour on wed aft!!!!!!! They managed to stop it but it was a struggle.Have to say it bloody hurt too

Twinkle

MarsLady · 26/05/2008 00:18

Will be thinking about you twinkle. You tell those babies to stay put. You never know you might get to 38 weeks. (Did you want me to have a word with the babies? On second thoughts you want them to be born at some time and not stay in forever!)

Tortington · 26/05/2008 01:29

i went full term.

although good for the babies i suppose - i would be lying if i said i wasn't disapointed !

Neenztwinz · 26/05/2008 13:22

Good luck Twinkle!! Thinking of you x

Neenztwinz · 26/05/2008 13:26

Hey Merry - the orange Theo has on in the pic is a cellular blanket. It was given to me so can't help you out on that one. Will have a look what brand it is and let you know. Don't have one nearby at the mo. The DTs are upstairs having a nap.

We had a good night last night. They fed at 9.30pm, 12.30, 4.30 and 8am. They settled well after the 12.30 feed so I got a couple of hours sleep. They took a while to settle after 9.30 and 4.30 but DH took over at 4.30 so I got more sleep. One of the best nights we've had actually.

We are doing all the wrong things of course - rocking them to sleep, letting them go to sleep with a dummy, sleeping downstairs in the lounge with them (they just seem to sleep better down here in their carrycot - we have tried taking the carrycot upstairs but it is not as effective). But whatever gets them (and me) to sleep is all I care about at the mo!

accessorizequeen · 26/05/2008 13:29

It's really interesting to see how you're both coping Neenz and Pazza (really well by the sound of it or are you just calm on mn?!). I'm expecting dt's in Sept. I hope you hang on until 33 weeks too twinkle, I didn't even realise they could stop labour at this point wow. A friend had hers at 33 weeks, they visited me last week (live in oz so I hadn't met them until now) and babies are 9 months. You'd never know they were prem, healthy as horses Absolutely gorgeous too.

MerryMarigold · 26/05/2008 18:07

thanks for the welcome! that's definitely one cool blanket neenz. they always seem to be so PASTEL.

twinkle, hope you/ the babies can hang in there. i have a book which tells me:

  • taking calcium with magnesium and zinc can help stop premature labour (333mg calcium, 133mg magnesium, 5mg zinc)
  • Vit C (1,00mg) and Vit E (400iu) can prevent preeclampsia
  • REST
  • lots of water, dehyrdration can lead to prem labour
  • eat A LOT, esp carbos, dairy and meat

i'm sure you know all this, but no-one has told me anything so far, so have found this book really helpful (When you're expecting Twins, Triplets or Quads by Dr Barbara Luke). It's written by someone at a good US University Clinic so it is not weirdy stuff!

Neenztwinz · 27/05/2008 14:00

Good tips Merry. Hope Twinkle can use them to keep those babies in there

The orange blanket is by Zorbit babycare. Hope you can find one!

PazzaPlusTwo · 27/05/2008 15:16

Fingers (and legs) crossed twinkle! Do you have someone who can look after you so you can just stay in bed?

My neighbour had twins recently at 29 weeks - in SCBU for a bit but now back home and doing fine. It must be stressful for you but it's amazing what hospitals can do these days.

Big hugs

MerryMarigold · 29/05/2008 21:36

Hi. Had a scan today. Triplets have gone down to twins. Not lost a baby or anything, but the third one was a phantom baby (a twin from another angle). Anyway, scan was good in that it confirmed the twins are non identical and have own placentas. Neenz, how did you have a water birth?!

accessorizequeen · 29/05/2008 22:03

Wow, MM that must be hard to take in. How're you feeling?

MerryMarigold · 29/05/2008 22:12

Accessorize, thanks for asking. Lots of feelings...

  • Disappointment/ grief over a 'lost' baby. Believed there were 3. There's a lot of 'glory' that goes along with triplets - oohs and aaaahs from everyone!
  • Relief. It is now a much lower risk pregnancy. Not to mention a lot easier/ cheaper etc. afterwards

I feel ok about it now, was definitely sad for a bit, but not like a baby died in utero. I still wonder if no. 3 may be 'out there' and pop up later! But I feel like, 'whatever will be, will be'. The triplets themselves were so surreal...this is really nothing in comparison!

Sorry babbled on, it's good to let it out...

When are you due accessorize? And what are having?

MerryMarigold · 29/05/2008 22:15

sorry, just read you are due in sept with twins and live in oz. do you know what the twins are? are they identical or fraternal? do you know the sexes or want to?

accessorizequeen · 29/05/2008 22:25

hulllo mm. I can totally understand you'd feel relieved and disappointed at the same time. Only circumstances where twins might feel quite manageable if you thought you were having triplets! I think I would feel quite overwhelmed with that news myself sounds like you've worked through that so scan obviously not today!

I am an aussie but not living there for over a decade, I'm in Yorkshire. My friends visited from oz with twins, thus the confusion! Having one of each I'm told and they're fraternal. I'm due 1st October but expecting to actually have the in sept as I'll be induced at 37/38 weeks due to previous section (I think!).

twinkle1 · 30/05/2008 09:31
