Hello everyone

Mel glad to hear everything has settled down a bit, despite external factors. I'm currently taking refuge at my parents to get away from nicotine-deprived DIY-crazed husband especially with DD on half term. I am being much more assertive than last time about asking my mum for help too, so it should be nice and restful.

I woke up every ten minutes last night, hard bed and instead of just getting every pillow and duvet in the house, I kept trying minimal additional support and had to keep getting up for more. I know exactly what you all mean about discomfort now - especially the hips. Also crying at the drop of a hat.

AQ sorry to hear about the colic, I remember that with DD, thankfully brief. The pic is gorgeous. I just can't wait to meet mine now.

Pheonix, hope your last week at work isn't too emotional!

Here's the updated list:

Hello twin mums,

I had my 29 week scan today at the fetal medicine center and the girls are estimated at 2 lbs 13 oz each. I can't believe how fat they have become! I am so happy. Everything was normal. However the doctor recommends an elective c-sec between 35 and 36 weeks. He saus they dont prefer id twins with single placenta in there for too long since there can be risk of sudden death of one twin. I think I will book the date in any case and then see what happens. Any ways lets see what my consultant thinks tomorrow.

AQ such cute pics. Made my day!

swerve welcome to being a twin mum. just remember dont be too hard on your self and try not to benchmark your self to singleton mums. I thought I was going to work until 33 weeks. I m 29 weeks and a walk around the block is all I like to do. I am not even that heavy, gained about 23 lbs so far. Wish you all the best.

accessorizequeen · 29/10/2008 15:54

anjelix. I know I loved looking at pazza's photos when I was pg, it made me focus on them as babies instead of feeling so rotten all the time.

welcome swerve, god i remember how I felt when I first found out, took a month to stop crying!

gbb, hope you get some sleep tonight,I think youve just got to take an hour here and there when you can day or night at this stage.

At the end (so the whole last trimester then!) I was crying every day and so fed up of being in pain and not being able to do anything. I think it just goes with a twin pg unfortunately.I have so much sympathy for you all still going through it, I was quite miserable for weeks on end, hardest pregnancy by far. I never thought it would end but lo and behold I have 2 lovely babies to show for it. I was sobbing over ds3 last night realising that he would only be this small once and then that was it, just appreciating the moments despite lack of sleep.I know these are my last babies and want to treasure every moment.

Balamorybaby · 30/10/2008 11:39

Gorgeous pictures AQ I love the names and what fantastic weights your DT's were.

Can I ask you ladies about your scans during pregnancy please?
I had an intial scan at 7 weeks (due to a bleed) where they discovered I was expecting twins, a scan at 12 weeks and an anomaloy scan booked for next week (22 weeks).
Do the scans become more frequent from now on and how often were you scanned in your pregnancy? (My twins are DCDA if that makes a difference).
Thanks so much for any help you can give

poorbuthappy · 30/10/2008 12:46

Afternoon all....can't keep up with this thread now...been really busy in work and haven't been able to read / post on here for ages!!!!

MEL-how are you today? Just take it 1 day at a time and watch the weeks go past...I'm 30 weeks tomorrow which seems such a milestone...consultant says everything ok with me so I will probably make 37 weeks which is week ending 19th dec for the section...big hugs to you, keep your legs crossed!!!!!!

To the ladies who are around the same date as me, do you feel like your sides are going to split?? My stomach is doing ok stretchy wise as in not feeling uncomfortable, but I think I am burst open at the seams! Bring on the bio oil as it is the only thing which seems to help...

Pushchair bought - big thanks to mum and dad for that !
Nursery will be finished on the weekend (once the carpet argument has been won by me...)
Finish work 3 week tomorrow...

AQ - my memory is so bad that I can't remember if I have congratulated you yet - so here is it again...CONGRATULATIONS!

Also can anyone suggest a name to go with Gwen?

Balamorybaby - my twins are MCDA which means I get scanned every 2 weeks so I think your scans will be less frequent...can't really help more than that to be honest!

mel2005 · 30/10/2008 13:39

hi PBH i have been wondering how you are getting on. i am glad you are all ok and you are doing alot better than i am.
i had my GTT results back clear and the swabs are clear so its looking like a problem with one of the placentas. to be honest i dont really feel that well but the babies are moving well and i havent had anymore bleeding. i am 30 weeks on saturday so i am taking it really easy hoping they will stay put for a few more weeks yet. i dont know how you can still be at work, i work from home and i am finding it really difficult. i have this feeling that i will have them by 32 weeks, i hope i am wrong. my target is 34 weeks but i would love them to stay in until 36 weeks.
i am trying finlay and rosemary out today to see if they sound right. i really need to name them.

AQ i love the new photos.

balamory, i think they will scan you once every 4 weeks after 20 weeks, like me. if there are any problems they will scan you more.

PazzaPlusTwo · 30/10/2008 14:51

i got scanned every 4 weeks too - just to check growth and position

AQ/Anjlix - ha ha that's funny, you're looking at pics of newborns to remind you of the 'prize' ... when i come on here now i remember what i went thru to have them, and try to enjoy them more!

i am enjoying them, it's just a bit up and down. luckily mn is here for the downs as well as the ups!

xx good luck everyone

anjlix · 30/10/2008 15:54

Hello all, Hope every one is holding up the bump and all!!

poorbuthappy I am a week behind you and
today my consultant said I could get a c-sec between 36 and 37 week. They would not go much beyond 37 week for MCDA twins. The end is near with two prizes. I am so achy all over so it would be great to feel myself again.

Balamorybaby I have had 6 scans so far at 29 weeks. Scheduled for another 2, 3 weeks apart. Bascially with MCDA they scan you more. The scan guy was super confident that I dont have TTTS and hence the 4 week gap last time and 3 weeks gap for the next two. It really depends how you progress but it will be more than singletons so you get to watch them grow.

PazzaPlusTwo what week did you have your twins? They look so cute. I can't wait to see mine.

poorbuthappy · 30/10/2008 16:36

Awww MEL, I want to send you lots of whatever will make you feel better...
its daft really that technically you should be lower risk but are having more problems...

To be honest work is lot less stressful than being at home - I get to sit on my big fat arse and not look at piles of ironing, whilst being ankle deep in dog hair, bits of polly pocket, dirty socks and dust...and stress about it!

I'm looking forward to finishing work, but the great big gap between finishing and then having the section is stretching out before me and I honestly don't know how I'm going to cope without going mad...I had the grand sum of 1 day on maternity leave before going into labour with dd, so I really don't know what I'm going to do with myself...
hubby keeps joking that he wants his tea on the table when he gets in from work....yeah right! ...daytime tv here I come!

TALLULAHBELLE · 30/10/2008 18:40

Balamory - I had a booking scan @ 11 weeks where we found out was a BOGOF. Then another scan for NT screening 2 or 3 days later. Another detailed scan at 18 wks, again @ 24 then a growth scan @ 28. Next one in 4 weeks time I think (32 wks). Think every 4 weeks is usual. Don't know if scans get more frequent but my appointments become fortnightly after 32 weeks.

GettingBiggerBird · 01/11/2008 21:09

Balamory - I've been scanned every 4 weeks (DCDA twins), and now at 32 weeks the next one's been set for 3 weeks time, mostly to check positions and to discuss my birthplan with my consultant (I've been sparing him the 5 page essay - control freak, moi?).

Hello PBH, glad you're OK. My sides are OK though I do just generally feel huge and cumbersome.

Mel glad to hear the GTT was clear but sorry you're still low. Love your baby names, I think we're pretty close to decided on ours though of course my parents hate them which is always a bit offputting - not enough to change them though!

I had a reasonable night's sleep last night - hooray. Then a thoroughly spoilt day of massage and DD now off at a sleepover so I've been very lazy. Just waiting for the X Factor result before zzzzzzzzzz .

MerryMarigold · 02/11/2008 20:18

Hello all. Just a quick pop in. Babies born 22.10 by c-section when I was 37 wks +1, but only got out of hosp on wed. Baby boy, Jude, weghed 6lb 5. Baby girl, Mirissa, weighed 5lb 13. Jude had a bad viral infection, difficulty breathing and retaining food, had to go inti SCBU for several days, on oxygen, v scary time. He's fibne now, thang God for antibiotics. We're l home now. I feel SO NUCH BETTER than when pg. Enjoying them a lot.

MerryMarigold · 02/11/2008 20:20

sorry, feeding and typing with one hand!

TALLULAHBELLE · 02/11/2008 20:39

How nice to see you MM. Congratulatons. Glad you're home & all OK now. Feeding must be going well if you can MN @ same time - took me months to master that with DD .

mel2005 · 02/11/2008 20:50

hi MM, congratulations, they are lovely names and great weights. sounds like a scary time and i am glad you are all home safe.

accessorizequeen · 02/11/2008 21:28

Huge Congrats ,MM!!! Have been waiting to see names and weights since heard you had had them. Lovely names Glad all is well with Jude now. How is ds1 taking it all? Please email me if you need to chat etc or I can give you my mobile to text as that's easier sometimes I know, can't believe how the weeks have flown past since I had mine.

MerryMarigold · 02/11/2008 21:54

Yeah, tallulah, kind of got used to bfing and multi-tasking when ds1 fed for 11 months and refused bottles!

Accessorize, your two are growing quickly. I have even noticed change in mine over 10days! Well, greedy guzzler Mirissa anyway who is getting quite chubby. She eats about double the amount of Jude! Their little characters are so different. She sounds a bit like your Bridget. She is feisty, gets REALLY angry when she is crying, is very alert, loves her food however it comes (she has 1 bottle of formula a day, Jude does not have any) and is happy to sleep on her own. Jude is more 'squidgy', loves his cuddles, can't sleep well unless with sister, loves his breastmilk, cries like his heart is breaking, sleeps more than her.

Ds1 has been very cute, he realy loves the babies and wants to hold them all the time. He's not too good at being 'gentle' and daddy can get a bit upset that he is manhandling them, but I try not to tell him off when he is touching them and just let him be a bit rough and correct him if it is too bad! I think me being in hospital for a week was the worst bit for him, he kept saying "I don't like you" when I came home. I've enjoyed being able to spend time with him again, get on the floor, dance around, tickle him etc. and we seem to have made friends again.

AQ, I am not managing to tandem. How do you pick up the second baby? I need to get a v pillow, the one I have does not work, it is an inflatable one and it's not big enough, would be fine for 1 baby but not two. Not sure how it will work out as she definitely eats more often, but maybe he will start catching up if I wake him every time she eats. At the moment it has been easier to let them eat at totally separate times.

anjlix · 02/11/2008 22:28

congrats MM. I m so happy for you. I hope you get a knack on the tandem BF. It sounds kinda cool but then again I would not want you to sweat.

accessorizequeen · 03/11/2008 09:58

MM your two sound a LOT like mine, amazing really.I use an ordinary v pillow btw, although thinking of investing in a doomoo or something. I put one down on the couch next to me, then bring the other over, then place both of them on the v pillow (with extra cushions). It's getting a little hard to lift Bridget at the moment, used to do it one handed but she's getting bigger. I do about 70% feeds like this, Felix has an extra feed or two during the day too. I found after a couple of weeks it was just easier to feed them together as they settle well (they come off at the same time!) and it's less time consuming. Well done so far, the first 10 days were a nightmare for me, you sound so positive! Glad ds1 is doing well, it's a real adjustment for him isn't it? I was playing chasey with ds2 on the weekend and it was so nice to be down on the floor playing with him again.
I have 2 newborn sleeping bags the dt's have grown out of already, would you like them btw?

poorbuthappy · 03/11/2008 12:12

MM - congratulations!!!!!!!!!!

BarbarellaNz · 03/11/2008 12:18

Hi Everyone,

Can I be added to the list? I am 16+4 pg with triplets - identical twins plus one singleton. I'm a first timer and due 9th April, but specialist says they'll take take them out around 34 weeks so that would be the beginning of March. They were the result of our sixth round of IVF and, even though we only had two embryos transferred, one kept dividing itself into a set of identical twins....so, instant family!

Am feeling more confident as the weeks go (slowly) by but we still have fingers crossed as we lost our first IVF pregnancy.

How are you all doing?

Barbarella XX

GettingBiggerBird · 03/11/2008 14:11

Hello MM - and glad to hear everything now seems to be going so well after the scary start. Love the names too. I am so jealous at the thought of being able to even manage to get down to the floor to play with DC and know you can get back up again.

Hello Barbarella and yes you can absolutely join the list, our only triplets!

Balamorybaby · 03/11/2008 17:58

Thanks for the info on your scans ladies

Barbarella Many congratulations on your triplets

Had my 22week scan today and found out that we are expecting a boy and a girl

Next scan booked for 28 weeks and then they'll be every 4 weeks after that.

Feeling happier about buying things now so am on the lookout for a suitable twin pushchair. Am considering the icandy pear - does anyone have one or have any opinions on it? I like the idea of being able to put the carseats on it if I'm popping into the shop so I can still hold DS2's hand too.

What pushchair have you bought or are you getting ?

GettingBiggerBird · 03/11/2008 18:16

Congratulations on the b/g twins, join the club!

Mel is our resident buggy expert - I'm sure she'll be full of useful advice. Do you have to worry about width and do you prefer a tandem or side-by-side one? I've been given a side-by-side twin mountain buggy, so didn't have any tough decisions to make. The best thing about it is the twin carrycot you can get for it which means the babies are in the same space together, but it is enormous and heavy. Ours is 4 years old and still looks great though, I think they're really good quality.
