Hi all, just wondering if anyone hasn't/ isn't planning on finding out about the sex? I wasn't planning to, but it seems most people do- I'm wondering if there's a reason for doing so I haven't thought of???

I am feeling great at the min! compared to first 15 weeks- people kept saying but I thought 'yeah, right' but do feel energised- long, long, long may it last..

ScottishSusan · 06/02/2008 19:17

Hi All

Haven't posted for a few days but keeping up with all the chat.
I am also considering a double buggy this time even though ds is 2 past - he really is still a baby and tbh he is a handful when out walking.

Still had no word on blood tests - 11 days now .

2 weeks till scan and I can't wait to find out what we're having....boy number 5 or girl number 2??? Excited!!!!!!!!!

pigleychez · 06/02/2008 19:46

Welcome MissMcGoo and Marymalone.

Great news about the scan Hatrick.- And a boy too
What hopsital are you under?

My next scan isnt till 7th March- Seems like ages away but i suppose it will soon come round.
We have decided not to find out the sex ( unless a winkle is desperately obvious on the scan! )
I can def see the benefits of finding out. ie blue/pink but we want the suprise at the end.

JODIEhavingababy · 06/02/2008 20:14

Hi all,

Carrie - I don't find out with my DS and it was a lovely surprise, and you don't get many of those in life! But this time I'm only finding out due to practical reasons, do I keep all my blue stuff, or buy lovely pink frilly dresses? Also, names, we have a fave girls name, but really can't decide on a boys, so if it is a boy then we have 20ish weeks to think about it!!!!

Shortsafe - My husband has now decided to hate MN now coz of you! (in the nicest possible way) Until last night I didn't want to spend a lot on a new buggy, but have now fallen in love with the Jane! I WANT ONE NOW Need to find out if it can fit in my boot.

purplejennyrose · 06/02/2008 21:18

Thanks for all the welcomes! Not got much time for MN at mo, but will keep trying to keep up with this thread!
Funny, just logged back on to find all this pushchair chat - I have been thinking about just this! Not sure what I'm going to do - I have a 'travel system' from dd, but would really love a lightweight and space-saving buggy / stroller that is also comfortable and suitable from birth - we bought a cheap stroller and it is rubbish and uncomfortable. DD will be 2 and 2 months when baby 2 comes, but she is already walking everywhere and tall / big, so no need for double. Am thinking of a good solid stroller from birth, plus maybe a sling, plus maybe a buggy board, and then they can both alternate??!
Any advice??
Jodie, I'm also very tempted to find out sex this time (didn't with dd) so that I know whether to clear out the pink dresses!
Congrats / good luck to all the scans and so on.

JODIEhavingababy · 06/02/2008 22:08

Hey Purplejennyrose - if you have a boy and me a girl, maybe we could swap baby clothes !!!

MissMcGoo · 06/02/2008 22:12

Evening all!

Am 16 weeks today and feel like I've sprouted overnight - I really look much bigger than yesterday - could it be all those pancakes I made for the kids and then wolfed down myself? DP came home and all the pancake batter had gone! (blush)

My next scan is booked for the 7th March too, and like the other two we won't ask the sex but will try and guess, DP has been right both times so far so the pressure is really on him now.

Am feeling great today - is it the sunshine or the fact I have't vomitted for 2 days now? (Or the guilty pleasure of going to bed and digesting all those yummy pancakes? They did give me some funny dreams though).

Great to hear all the good news about scans and wriggly babies - long may it continue.

sweetkitty · 06/02/2008 22:27

Evening all got my blood test results back low risk for DS, Edwards Syndrome and Spina Bifida so thats all good. Now comes the scan dilemma - have found a place in Edinburgh that does 20 week scans for £150, it's the other side of Edinburgh so a nightmare to get to especially with the 2 DDs, also they are only 9-5 Mon to Fri which would means another day off work for DP which he isn't too keen about, theres a few places in Glasgow but they are £200 which is a lot of money and don't know if they do weekends. Only place that does is the "bonding" only place in Glasgow which isn't a fully detailed anatomy scan. DP has left it up to me don't know what to do now

I have found out the sex with both DDs and have never regretted it, it confirmed my guesses that they were both girls and we could get on with choosing names etc. Don't think it took anything away from the birth but then again I have never had the surprise so can't really tell IYSWIM.

Jodie - I have known a few friends with Jane's and they have given them mixed reviews more negative than positive, I think they are quite heavy to push especially with toddler in the front, also heavy to lug in and out the car, sorry to tell you this but at least 3 people I know with them ended up getting another double as well I do think they look really good though and comfy, I saw one in red with the carrycot and it looked lovely.

isaidno - I saw a Petite Star Zia in cranberry today whilst out shopping it had matching cranberry cosy toes and looked lovely [sad emoticon] I have severe pram envy sometimes

Nothing much happening here getting movements every day now which is reassuring, can't stop eating now as well, I think I will be gaining much more than the 2lbs so far very shortly.

isaidno · 07/02/2008 08:39

purplejennyrose - I can recommend the seat 2 go buggy board by litaf. It is like a step so the child can sit on it or stand up. I used it for about 18 mths for DS1 (from age 2 to 3 and a half)

sweetkitty - I am planning to go look at the zia in real life sometime next week (after Monday's scan!) but I think it looks perfect for my needs, especially in cranberry...

I've had a lie in this morning (Until 8.15am!!!) because I asked DH to take DS1 to school. He did manage to do everything (the various creams for the excema, wash, dress, make lunch, book bag, etc) but he was getting irate! I think it is good practice for when new baby comes and he has to do it for at least a week. DS2 is still in pjs, but otherwise he did a good job! He thinks I'm mad because we get up at 7am and leave at 8.25am, and now he realises it's still a rush!

isaidno · 07/02/2008 08:41

Jodie - my friend in real life had the Jane double, and never used it alot. Her eldest DD was quite tall and was really uncomfortable in the little front seat. Also she couldn't sleep in it because there was no head support for her.

lazyhippo · 07/02/2008 08:48

Hi all
Minkus-yes its wonderful to have a break from the vomiting, especially the evening bouts-i hated them. Making up for lost time eating everything in sight now, think fed up with solid carb loading before. mmhh- pancakes (with you there MissMcgoo!)
Hatrick- thats wonderful news about your scan , and to Sweetkitty with your blood results. Poor you scottishsusan still waiting
Hope the massage helped Rumpel
Carrie- we also don't want to know the sex- (maybe because its a first baby), but its just as well as our local hospital has a policy of not saying at the scans
xx

gillythekid · 07/02/2008 09:02

HicarrieHD9 I'm not planning on finding out the sex of our baby, we want the surprise and will be averting our eyes at crucial times during the next scan! I don't like the idea of blue and pink anyway and prefer to buy a bit of funky unisex stuff for the first few months. BabyGap has some great clothes even though it's a bit ethically bankrupt.

JODIEhavingababy · 07/02/2008 09:18

Morning

Thanks for your advice re the Jane, now my DH loves you all again! Although it's back to the drawing board! Oh well, we have plenty of time.

Isaidno - Does the seat 2 go have straps? Not sure if my little bundle of energy is good enough for one of those

BorgLady · 07/02/2008 09:25

Hello,

Was just recommended this thread over on the pregnancy forum, so thought I'd pop over to say hi.

I'm currently 17 weeks pg with my first, due July 15th and have the next scan on 27th Feb.

Like lazyhippo's, our hospital won't tell you the sex either, but we really want to know!

Because baby was such a surprise, I think it would help make it feel more real in the months to come. We're going to try and look for a winkle (or lack thereof) when they zoom in!

Not too bothered about the pink/blue factor, we've been buying mostly boy clothes anyway as we're not into the frillies even if it is a girl. I think DP would like to raise the next Sigourney Weaver.

Has anyone decided on names yet? We started really early (about 7 weeks) because we thought we'd have a tough time, but it turned out to be really easy. We decided in about half an hour and so far we still like them.

The only one DP vetoed was Dixie for a girl, which I still really like, but we both agreed we'd have to agree. In the end we settled for Edward (Ted) for a boy and Iris for a girl, after relatives.

Anyway, thanks for the invite, look forward to chatting with you all and getting to know you.

JODIEhavingababy · 07/02/2008 09:31

Welcome Borglady,

I'm due on the 15th too, but I will have to wait until 13th March for my scan boo.

There is a list of us all, names, EDD's home towns (if you want) etc a few pages in, cut and paste to add yourself!

What beautiful names you've chosen, I love Edward , but our surname is Ward, so would sound wierd, and Iris is so pretty!

MissChika · 07/02/2008 11:42

Morning!

Hi and welcome to the July thread BorgLady.

I love the name Iris for a girl but DP isn't too keen. We are really struggling to agree on girls names . I guess we'll just decide once we know what we're having and that will be after the birth!

EEC · 07/02/2008 11:54

seat 2 go here; it doesn't have a strap, but I found it perfectly safe. You probably could put some sort of harness attached to the pushchair.

sweetkitty · 07/02/2008 13:41

Afternoon all having a busy one so just having 10 minutes MNing before tackling some more of the house, have promised DDs that we will make chocolate rice crispie cakes as well (wonder how many I will eat).

EEC - well done on doing the list wow there's so many of us now. Do you know you are having a boy then re the blue fleece? If this one is a girl I won't be buying very much as have loads from the DDs up the loft and DD1 was a July baby as well so have plenty of little summer clothes hardly worn (DD2 was January so different season) I will probably still get some new things though as woulodn't want her to be all second and third hand rose! Would be interesting to have a boy though and buy blue for a change.

Hello and welcome Borglady - you are so superorganised with names, we still don't have a clue or theres nothing that we both like. Will wait to find out what we are having then we can argue about one set of names only Our surname is difficult as it's only 4 letters so ideally need a name thats quite long as short names don't tend to "go" with it.

Right better go can hear crashing and banging from upstairs.

NikNakF · 07/02/2008 14:51

Hi all,

Sorry to repeat myself but just found this thread - new to MN!!

I am currently 18+2 and very excited about our surprise first pregnancy. Next scan is on 19th Feb and we're going to find out

I think I have been feeling something the last few weeks, a kind of wiggly fluttering feeling. I think it must be baby but being a bit restrained.

Anyone else felt something? Anyone else worried silly by the thought of some unknown thing going wrong?

Thanks and look forward to getting to know you all!

N

twinkle1 · 07/02/2008 15:05

Afternoon all,
All was well at my MW app this morning Heard both the heart beats Too cute!!!! But im measuring 22weeks and am only 15!!!PLEASE i know im having twins but really!! I feel like a huge hefer............Im scared witless about how big im going to get.
Well they start my attic conversion on Mon looking forward to conversion but not mess they say it will take 2-3 weeks. But it will be nice, DS1 is moving up there so we have a room for the twinsIt should be nice for DS1 as it has plenty of windows and a real wood staircase.
Now looking at conservatory quotes.....Oh and winning the lottery next week.
Twinkle & bumps

pigleychez · 07/02/2008 15:10

Hi and welcome to NikNakF and BorgLady.

Just got back from the midwife and everythings fine. Heard babys heartbeat for the first time - 140 bpm. Midwife found it quite easily but then baby moved and she had to chase baby around my tummy!

Glad im not the only one disheartened with work at the mo!
How soon is everyone planning to take thier maternity leave?

NikNakF · 07/02/2008 15:17

I've got some annual leave saved that was going to be for some jet setting but will be too big to fly so I'll be off from mid-May, yay! About 32/33 weeks?

sweetkitty · 07/02/2008 15:43

Ha ha ha I said to DP last night "so when do I get to start maternity leave?" His reply "you are still on it from the first one!" Ah I remember being pregnant the first time and thinking I needed to rest before the birth and stopped working at 36 1/2 weeks, so much for my rest DD1 was born at 37+5. This time around no such luck with two other DC to look after there will be very little rest. Treasure those last few weeks ladies

Niknak - hello and welcome to mumsnet be warned it is very addictive, it snared me in when I was bout 10 weeks pregnant with DD1 and I have never been able to leave since. Cue many hours spent on here when I should have been working!

twinkle - good news about your scan, my friend who had twins was huge (sorry) hers were something like 6lbs 5ozs and 6lbs 11ozs, no wonder though they each weighed more than my first you will be fine though bigger you are means the bigger they are and even though it's tough for you it means they are doing well. Have you thought about the birth yet? Are they pushing you for a csection? I pretty much thought consulants advise csections for all twins nowadays.

pigley - good news about your appt as well, I think from memory heartbeat >135 bpm is a girl,

FoghornLeghorn · 07/02/2008 15:52
