Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lilyloo · 15/01/2008 12:35

good luck for montioring Lucky hopefully some positive labour news. If not when i induced with ds i had my gel and dp stayed with me through the nigth although ds didn't arrive until the following afternoon so am sure he will be able to stay if you ask although he may be very tired as not much room to sleep for you both and lump in single bed.

Well i ringing midwife in half an hour to ask for second sweep to give this lo one last push to make an appearance so fingers crossed.

Good luck for tom Martha hope it all goes well.

Have a nice day everyone else.

Hi guys - just did a quick scan and seen fluffy was UNBELIEVEBLY restrained on passing on the news and so when I wasn't rushing to the computer as I thought you'd all know you were in fact in broad ignorance. Deeply touched at Fluffy's restraint!

Cerys Frances was born at 2.27pm on 10th Jan by C-section after a deeply underwhelming induction experience which I will put on the other thread so as not to frighten the horses. She is PERFECT - having not been squished down the birth canal her face is all rosy and plump and dewy and she makes me cry/melt just looking at her.

I was kept in hospital until Sat eve - they wanted longer but we staged a prison break and are just delighted to be home. DH has 4 weeks off work and is as overwhelmed with love as I am and so we are just feeling as if in our own bubble. My mum and dad were here for a bit and we've had a fair few visitors - on the one hand I feel so proud of her I want to show her to everyone but on the other I feel like I just want a cocoon of the 3 of us and be totally absorbed in each other.

My milk is taking ages to come through (think it's finally on itsway) and Cerys feeds really well but because she is quite large I think she feels fed but not satiated and in the middle of the night this turns to blind panic - she forgets everything she knows about feeding, flails her little hands madly and has the screaming abdabs for hours. Bring on the discomfort of constant leakage I say!

Anyway that will do for now. Many many congrats to Gingeme on George - esp his method of arrival - am simply in awe at your calm can-do-ness, also on Tana's arrival and all the others who I have read with such pleasure of but in the heat of new motherhood brain cannot now recall and don't want to risk losing this post for the sake of looking up!
Will keep in touch.

lilyloo · 15/01/2008 12:57

Surprise surprise as helpful as ever refusal to do sweep now

Susiemj · 15/01/2008 13:12

lilyloo

congratulaions barristermum - beautiful name. know what you mean about wanting to be absorbed. I was frantic to be left alone with DH and Sabela. The love is unbelievable. Can now understand why names like Adoracion are popular in spain! sorry about induction. I had exactly the same experience waiting for milk to come in. Doing ok now.

Hi all havn't got the brain power to catch up with everyone. George fed constantly all night till 5am was saying to dh 'thats it were buying formula tommorrow, I cant do this again, not coping, hate it blah blah. Rang my friend this morning who is a bf counciler and she bought me back down to earth and the future looks bright again.
Ive been waiting patiently for your story Barristermum. Many many congratulations. Absolutelt beautiful name. Well done you and dh. Fantastic.
Hope everyone else is dpoing well.
Take care all xxxxxx

barristermum · 15/01/2008 13:49

Right - mammoth birth story post on January babies thread should anyone want to know.
Gingeme - I have exactly the same thoght processes as you except even more dangerously the tin of ofrmula is in the kitchen - but I deliberately have not sterilised anything or even worked out how to use the steriliser yet to discourage myself at 5am!

madmouse · 15/01/2008 13:59

Hi all

Barristermum, congrats and well done, lovely name. Glad to hear you are so happy

Lucky, hope the monitoring goes well.

Lilyloo, for you with midwife. After all if the head is properly engaged I don't think there is much risk of cord prolapse.

Martha200, that must be a strange feeling. I hope the section goes really really well.

All fine here, took the car for MOT this morning and decided I am no longer happy driving (had not done so for a few weeks), my bump has dropped low, it pushes on my legs, my pelvis hurts, I am far too close to the steering wheel and lo argues with my insides for the entire journey complaining about lack of space. Bump even gets in the way of the tight steering needed to park behind our house (managed, but car stands stupidly akimbo ). Oh well, there's always buses, and DH to be taxi drivers.

MrsMcJnr · 15/01/2008 14:03

Hello all well that magic day when it is all meant to happen is here but guess what?. Still pregnant! I?m ok though, not too impatient but so want to meet my baby now!!! Been trying all the eviction tactics apart from the curry which I just cannot face?.!!

Hey Nicky6 ? those signs are sounding positive, all mine seem to have died away over the last couple of weeks. It?s very odd waking up on my due date today and feeling nothing unusual at all, hey ho! Sorry to be so out of touch but I take it you are now on mat leave and the trial is finished?! I?ve now had 3 weeks of mat leave and whilst I was frantic in the begin with so much to do, I now almost feel like I have done everything which means I am letting myself relax more. I slept until 11.30 today, it was bliss.

Hello Madmouse ? loved your pep talk to Luckybump and Lilyloobump, I?ve repeated it to my bump how are you feeling?

Luckysalem ? I am with you on the sleep front, I can?t sleep at night, I have repetitive, anxious dreams about being in the right position, being in labour, being induced etc, sleeping during the day seems to be much easier though. I hope you baby turns up soon, sending lots of positive vibes x why are they saying that DP has to go home after the pessary? That seems odd. Also, I thought that one of the ?good things? about being induced was that you were never left alone and had a midwife with you all the time (and your partner).

Susiemj ? I?m not sure if I have said congratulations to you hon CONGRATULATIONS! Felicidades! Sabela is a lovely name too. How are you feeling? You had such a rotten pregnancy; I?m hoping the post-partum bit is a lot better for you

Hello Fluffy how are you keeping? Sorry to hear that you and DH are unwell. DH and I have been the same, just got over round two of the cold and like you, we have almost been glad that the baby hasn?t arrived, don?t want the poor little thing to get a cold immediately. Sounds like good advice about the timing of the pessary, I can?t think of anything worse than things kicking off in the night when you are on the ward, alone and trying not to wake up the other ladies ? adrenaline fest, just what you don?t want! I am so hoping you have a much shorter, easier birth this time round. Any ideas on your baby?s size? Will you be able to keep the feet on the babygros this time?

Katyt1 hello! My DH asks me every day if he can stay at home too

Martha200 ? we?ve not met before (I?ve been AWOL for weeks ) I just wanted to wish you well with your section tomorrow; you are going to meet your baby!!!!

Lilyloo I can see why you are cross. My MW will not do sweeps but the MWs on the labour wards will if you ask them to. If I were you, I?d phone your local hospital and explain the predicament and see if one of them would do it for you. Best of luck hon! My NCT teacher suggested doing a DIY sweep but I don?t know how you could possibly get in the right position for that! I have a consultant?s appointment on Thursday (only 40+2) am wondering whether or not to go for a sweep if she offers one. I know the down side is that if my waters end up breaking but I don?t go into labour within 48 hours they?ll induce me anyway which is what I want to avoid so maybe I?ll seek to hold out on the sweep for another week?! There does seem to be so much variation in practice doesn?t there?!

Barristermum you beat me to the finish! many congratulations on the birth of your baby!! What a lovely name too. I?m glad that it went well (though you do know that I will have to go and read all the ins and outs?..!) enjoy that Babymoon!!!

Gingeme ? many congratulations on the arrival of George! sounds like you are doing a grand job on the feeding front!

Off to read these birth stories and then see who else is still waiting with me for the arrival of their little one

MrsMcJnr · 15/01/2008 14:04

Crossed with you Madmouse, you mean you have finally given up cycling?! I'm with you on the driving - sooo uncomfy!

madmouse · 15/01/2008 14:10

Hurrah, MrsMc!!

I have given up cycling, I got scared and kept braking for every side street, after getting SPD I decided enough was enough...

AngeChica · 15/01/2008 15:03

Hello MrsMc!!! Just been to MW at 40+1 - she freely offered a sweep but without success. She says my cervix is tucked up behind the baby's head which sounds a bit weird. Will try again next week if nothing happens. Still not fully engaged.

Feel like my "old" due date of 20th Jan is more realistic now, but I'm getting lots of texts and calls with "any news?" which is mildly irritating already!

I hear on the grapevine, 90 hour labour Fragolina? good grief ...

MrsMcJnr · 15/01/2008 15:47

Angechica - I am getting the calls and texts too - you almost feel guilty for having nothing to report but it is annoying when people say they are worried about you - why?! Like you, I think my original due date of 17/1 (based on Ovulation) may have been more accurate. One of my NCT pals was induced on Friday at apparently 41+6 but the baby was only 7lb and covered in vernix still so clearly not as cooked as her EDD would have suggested. Your plan of action sounds sensible, hope things happen for you soon

Susiemj · 15/01/2008 18:38

Hi all

Gingeme - I'm with you on the rollercoaster they call breastfeeding. Sometimes I feel a total failure (last night). Sometimes I feel like it's not that difficult (today). There seems to be no in between. good luck with little george! If you don't mind me saying, it's something of a reassurance you still find problems even on your fifth. I would have at least five now if I can- we'll see!

barristermum - i'm off to read your story now!

madmouse - sorry about discomfort. taxis rule!

MrsMc - sending you due date vibes!
I'm fine, thanks for asking. I'm loving being a mummy. Sabela seems so pretty to me that it's easy to feed her little mouth, even if it is for the third hour in a row at 4 in the morning. I think it's going to take a while to come to terms with whole pregnancy and birth thing. I was always of the 'it's not an illness' school. But it wasn't straightforward for me at all. Would do it again tomorrow though! I want ten babes!

Angechica - i'm not sure what the MW went but have my fingers crossed for you!

OP posts:
ayrshirelolo · 15/01/2008 21:17

Evening ladies! Just wanted to check in and say hi, Barristermum beautiful name! Haven't yet read your story (just going to!) but glad you're home safe and sound!
Martha - goodluck for tomorrow !!! I'm sure it's a weird one to know exactly when you'll be cuddling your baby, hope it goes according to plan, look forward to hearing about the baby soon!
Lucky, oh dear! Was so sure that it was all happening for you! that you might have to go the hospital route, i know you really didn't want that! As fluffy says though, it's about having a healthy you and a healthy baby..... hope it's a lot better than you think it's going to be iykwim! Hugs anyway, look forward to hearing about the beautiful lo as soon as possible..
Fluffy hope you're feeling better! I've been sneezing all day, really really don't want the cold now!!!! lol at you and dh sitting sniffing side by side! Olbas oil is quite good if you stick it in boiling water and inhale the steam, have you tried that yet? Or even old fashioned Vicks vaporub?
Lillyloo... take care honey! And everyone on your other thread is right, you can say "no" to induction if you want.. something to think about! Hope you're lo listens to Madmouse and makes a move before then though!
MrsMcJ - hello!! delighted you're back, we missed you! Sorry no news on the baby front for you yet, does that make you the first in your family not to go early? Hope you're taking it easy anyway!
Angechica, don't you just hate all the phone calls and texts? I'm not even due for another 2 weeks and it's started already! Ggggrrrrrr!!!
Madmouse - on a selfish level i'm glad you're still here to keep me company but i imagine you're a bit disappointed! I've started getting the horrible night sweats that Awen talked about.... what do you all think? My mum says she thinks it's hormones, as it's like the menopause symptoms she got, anyone else got this just now? it's horrible! Have woken up soaking wet the last couple of nights, wondering if waters have gone or just sweat... yeugh!
Anyway, love to all the mums and babies... send us some vibes so we're with you soon! lolo x

nicky6 · 15/01/2008 22:34

ayshirelolo - yes me getting the sweat thing in the night but apparently nothing to do with hormones its to do with the body trying to get rid of excessive water retention.

Ihave swollen hands and feet and the midwife today says that lots of fluid surrounding baby as well. But that is what the sweats are about.

Anyway am 38 +2 and head is 2/5 so well on its way. Midwife says most people have their babies at 41 weeks and that most countries actually make pregnancy that long - its just impatient lot that make it 40!!

Baby is still kicking very vigourously and apparently the pulsating in the fanjo area is when the baby has hiccups!!!

Anyway blood pressure up a bit so apparently they will have to keep an eye on it a bit but apart from that all fine - hoping for a good nights sleep for all.

sideways · 15/01/2008 22:48

Hi everyone, just to let you know my lovely baby boy was born by cs on Friday. Details to follow.

efmc · 16/01/2008 01:31

mum2sons · 16/01/2008 10:13

Hi MrsMc and Angechica, you and me both! D day here and the phone is ringing, my mobile is texting, I am getting funny looks at pre school and DH is getting funny looks at work! I WISH I had done what we did with DS2 and say the the due date was 2 weeks later than it really was! Ho hum, will just have to hibernate

Congratulations Barristermum, Cerys is a beautiful name and she sounds scrumptious!

Hugs to Lucky and Lilyloo. I know that I would have to be dragged kicking and screaming from my homebirth plans... In France, 42 weeks is the norm for "overdueness". It is not that many miles away and I am sure we are not that different physically from the French.. The NICE guidelines talk about "expectant management"
re induction of labour/post dates, maybe worth a look. The system should fit around your needs and not the other way around

Sideways Congratulations on your little boy!

ayreshirelolo I am sweating revoltingly at night as well Also up wandering and cleaning at 3am...

Hallo everyone else!
xxx

lilyloo · 16/01/2008 10:32

Morning all congrats Sideways on the birth of your son!
Thanks for all the words of support ladies they really do help. I can feel this whole thing running away from me and what i want. I know a healthy baby is the optimum outcome but still feel slightly upset that it will arrive in as far removed environment as i wished
Any news from Lucky ? If not hope all goes well tonight with induction hon will be thinking of you x
Well i have been for a brisk walk with the dog and am definately having curry for tea! I have had real strong words now with this lo but i know it's out of my hands unless i refuse induction which is a scary decision in itself
Sending much love to you all and fingers crossed i will have some news before induction Fri looms! LL

Susiemj · 16/01/2008 11:05

lilyloo - i was upset that sabela' birth didn't go the way I'd planned but i'd do it again tomorrow!

OP posts:
katyt1 · 16/01/2008 11:14

sideways - congratulations! look forward to hearing more about LO.

lilyloo - i'm so with you on this, we all want a healthy baby (& mum) at the end of the day but when you have put so much thought into how you would prefer baby came into the world it's v disappointing to have that taken away. i hope it isn't for your sake.
and lucky's tho we haven't seen her since the monitoring yesterday so maybe things kicked off finally????? fingers crossed it was at home lucky

i feel like i'll never have this baby at this rate! i mean i know it has to come out at some point, but was sooo sure it would be before now. (39+1 so i know i have time). dreading facing the induction discussions you guys have been having...

my sis had both her babies in france - not physically dissimilar to me at all (ok she's always had less padding than me if i'm brutally honest )!

susie - saw on other thread - hugs to your dh, hope things settle soon. don't let him lose that enthusisam!

mrsmc - great to see you back

lolo - yes hot at night, not so much sweating atm, was recently tho. and i remember afterwards as well, when body decides to get rid of all that fluid at once, yuk! i slept in a t-shirt and threw on a fresh one every now and then to feel better.

barristermum - can't remember if i said already, congratulations to you too

yes i get the phone calls here too, MIL is the worst culprit, no surprise there, the woman is obsessed by grandchildren - has 3 so you'd think she would have calmed down by now, but no....grr
but my mum is guilty too which surprises me as she's normally pretty cool about things.

anyway, ds at nursery, had a lovely long bath, now having some pasta then braving asda for some shopping before collapsing again later!

good labour vibes to all who want them

madmouse · 16/01/2008 13:55

Hi all

No Lucky hope that is a good sign, if not lucky I hope your induction is easy tonight.

Sideways, congratulations

KT try not to think about induction before you are even due chuck. The medical establishment has a lot to answer for

Lolo, I am not that disappointed to be here still, I am only 38 weeks. I am ready for this babe, but a long way off stressing about it you may beat me yet.

Been to the post office to get the car taxed. Was a bit concerned that insurance, MOT and tax were all due in the same week as the baby, but managed to get it all sorted nice and early. Was a bit obsessed about it , as it seems the sort of thing that you forget once lo comes along, so I am glad it is done, can go into labour now [grin.

Susiemj · 16/01/2008 14:25

LOL madmouse! hopefully that's thelast item on LO's 'to do before i come' list

oh and whoever asked whether anyone el;se puts things on lists when already done in order to cross them off - i do!

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 16/01/2008 14:44

Hello ladies 40+1 today and I think I have had that number of text messages and phone calls asking where Beanie is ? how the hell do I know?! I decided to try out my breast pump again, all in the name of the eviction process as I?d read that nipple stimulation can help ? it felt very odd I have to say and I was horrified/amazed to find that one side did actually express something, colostrum I guess, I then felt like I?d done something wrong as was wasting the precious stuff ? I?ll make more won?t I?!

Got some bad news last night my Dad had some surgery recently to remove some lumps and the biopsy has come back confirming that one of them is a malignant basal cell carcinoma and as it is on his scalp, just in front of his ear, they have not managed to remove it all and he has to have further surgery to see if it has effected the nerve (presumably the optic nerve?!) I guess it shouldn?t have come as such a shock but it did and I was so upset I was shaking and got all sorts of cramps across my bump, I did think it might trigger labour but I?m still here pregnant this morning.

Susiemj ? that is so positive that you?d have more babies having just been through birth ? makes me feel better thank you for the vibes ? keep them coming!

Hey Lolo thanks for missing me, that?s sweet! I missed you all too, really. I felt so much better after my catch up last night. Yup, I?m the first person for decades to still be pregnant at 40+1 in my family but the upside is that maybe the heparin has done its job I think we should all come up with a really good retort to the impatient calls and messages!! I?m with you on the night sweats, horrible

So let?s have a quick poll of who is left and the due dates, from what I can see there?s:

Luckysalem due 2/1
Lilyloo due 5/1
Mum2soms due 9/1
Angechica due 14/1
Me due 15/1
Katyt due 22/1
Fluffymummy due 24/1
Pussycatmomma due 24/1
Nicky6 due 28/1
Lolo due 31/1
Madmouse due forgotten
Iwillbe due 27/1
Efmc due 2/2

Nicky6 ? interesting about the source of the night sweats ? I?ve been really lucky, I?ve only had swollen hands and ankles after long walks. Good to hear that the head is down hon I get baby hiccups a lot and my baby?s head is so far down now I swear they echo look after that blood pressure.

Congratulations Sideways

Mum2sons hang in there ? very impressed at the 3am cleans; I?m clearly not in the right zone yet as I?m not the least bit tempted to do that!

Lilyloo ? fingers crossed hon xx

Katyt1 thanks, it?s nice to be back.

Sending positive vibes out to Lucky!!

Madmouse being very pregnant certainly focuses the mind on not putting off until tomorrow what can be done today doesn?t it?
