Hello

Eva part of the sstruggle of having a baby with DS is the hrdles one faces with schools, benefits, hospitals etc. Those things are the same for the ASD people, so if nothing else I can help get you through those should it be necessary (and it probably won't be).

VS you are right of course, compared to OJ, MB etc we are all so very lucky.

egyptianprincess · 20/12/2007 13:38

Hi Eva Hi VS
Good luck with everything. Fingers crossed it all Goes well for you both.

Eva- what part of Austria are you from? I lived in Vienna from 11-18 and my parents still live there so I consider it home.

Am flying to Vienna tomorrow night for Christmas- I cant . Do people think it's very cheeky to play the Im preggers card at Heathrow to avoid the queues? It's not just laziness- My back really kills when i stand for too long and Im worried about being stuck in some massive 2 hour queue.

eva07 · 20/12/2007 13:46

princess, I'm from upper austria, currently living in linz. how long will you be in vienna?

I don't think it cheeky, just stick out your belly

eva07 · 20/12/2007 13:49

peachy, thanks!

egyptianprincess · 20/12/2007 13:55

hi soph, have a good time with your family!

SantasNotSoLittleHelper · 20/12/2007 15:07

Thanks Eva, take care

dolly1 · 20/12/2007 15:42

Eva and VS - thinking of you. So crap to have these worries. VBACs sound like they are loaded with issues - I feel so sorry for you VS. And Eva lots of babies have little defects here and there that sort themselves out and they are totally fine. Really hope it works out for you both.

Lemonaid - tell me about the probs with oxytocin? Are you second and third timers getting sick of newbies like me asking all these questions?! Just that I don't have a lot of experienced mates to ask.

Also anyone else getting pains? Sharper than period pains that are worse when your up and about? Had them this morning but gone now. Replaced by a lovely soar back.

Are you all carrying as much as you used too? That must seem like a random question but I've been lugging aroud lots of shopping and worried that it might be doing me/the baby harm? More likely just to hurt me I reckon but still not enjoying the back pain!

But shopping is now done - phew! Just have all the food to buy over the weekend. So far dh has got out of all shopping related tasks as I get everything for everyone (typical control freak woman!) but he's getting roped in for the food. Can't face M&S Saturday before Christmas without some moral support!

MassiveMollyfloss · 20/12/2007 22:25

Ladies, I am off tomorrow to Switzerland and it is unlikely that I will log on until at least the 27th. Hope you all have a FAB christmas xoxo

PortAndLemonaid · 20/12/2007 23:02

dolly -- effectively, the weight of the recent evidence appears to be that the use of oxytocin (syntocinon/pitocin) or prostaglandins for induction or augmentation of labour significantly increases the odds of uterine rupture during an attempted VBAC (makes it around three times more likely, according to several studies). You can read a summary here. Many hospitals will still offer it during a VBAC, though.

Aside from VBACs, in the US in particular pitocin tends to be overprescribed in general (one former president of the International Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has commented, "Pitocin is the most abused drug in the world today"). The situation in the UK isn't so bad, but I do think that being given syntocinon when in labour with DS may well have been partly responsible for my winding up with a c-section.

chipmonkey · 21/12/2007 01:26

I was given pitocin on my VBAC with ds2 and got a scar rupture. I was v. annoyed with myself afterwards as I knew it wasn't a good idea as had been told that in my antenatal class but just assumed that everything was taken on a case-by-case basis and that the hospital staff knew what they were doing. Also was in a lot of pain at the time so not thinking straight.

VictorianSqualor · 21/12/2007 10:41

Dolly, tbh, VBAC's don't really have that many issues, you shouldn't be induced and that's about it really! A VBAC does have a risk of rupture, but only aroun 0.5% risk, so that's about 1 in every 200 people, and that isn't a hue problem if it is caught and dealt with quick enough, thoguh it can be very serious if not caught in time, but I suppose all births have alot of possible bad scenarios.

santagitta · 21/12/2007 10:56

Hi to all of you still MNing.

I've had a really hectic week, and not able to spend any time on internet . My scan went well last week - everything's OK. Don't know sex (didn't want to) but LO seems to have all the right bits. Just an oval shaped head, apparently. I'm hoping that will improve!

We've got 11 coming for Christmas, so now I'm off work and just cooking and shopping. Finished present buying yesterday, now just loads of food stuff and decorations to go.

I hope you all have a very happy Christmas! And lots of mince pies...

DennytwasNewYear · 21/12/2007 19:24

Evening all, the outlaws arrive tomorrow for nearly a week so prob limited time on the old PC. Wishing you all a fab xmas and if I dont post B4 a happy new year.

scorpio1 · 23/12/2007 13:36

Hi, im back from my shitty holiday. will update another time...

Denny - pmsl @ outlaws - thats what i call mine!

VS - im sorry to hear about the result of your doppler scan, but at least they found something out now. parts of Millie's placenta are dead and laked with blood, and MW said it just grows a bit more to compensate. not sure if this is appplicable to you though, wishing you luck, obv!

Santagitta - too hectic for MN? my my!

Hope everyone else well.

TheChristmaskedPoster · 23/12/2007 13:39

will pop in now to wish all you ladies a Very Merry Christmas (albeit a sober one) - just think how good it is to eat that second helping and not feel guilty (or is that just me?)

xxTMPxx

Piccalilli2 · 23/12/2007 19:47

VS, just wanted to say I had a very similar thing with dd, I had to have a load of extra scans but in the end dd was fine and a very healthy 7 lbs 8. Fingers crossed everything will be OK for you too.

Happy Christmas everyone.

SantasGotABigFatEllieG · 23/12/2007 19:59

Hey all - I lost this thread for a bit and felt so scared and alone!

Sorry to hear about your not so good news Eva and VS x

Elliebean is well and wriggly at moment, and starting to keep me awake!

Probably no time for posting before Christmas - so if not the happiest of happy Xmas to you all - eat lots since we can't drink, and speak to you all after xxxxxxx

northfeastmummy · 23/12/2007 20:12

Happy Christmas everyone - I hope you have a great time! I'll be popping in and out.

Elfsmummy · 23/12/2007 20:52

Happy Christmas to you all. Have a lovely time. I'm so very excited

I was thinking last night that when I was pregnant last time (DD born April 06) There were some pretty high profile celebs pregnant/giving birth around the same time - Brad and Angelina, Tom and Katie, Geri Halliwell and of course Kate Garraway

This time the only celeb that I can think of off the top of my head is blinkin Kerry Katona! And Britney's 16 year old sister! Can anyone throw a few more into the mix for me?

Not that it matters of course!

MassiveMollyfloss · 24/12/2007 12:37

Just popping in quickly. I'm in Switzerland at the mo. Lot's of nice chocolate here Hope you are all having a lovely Chrismas eve so far. In terms of celebrities, I think Nicole Richie and Christina Aguilera are due quite soon... Halle Berry and Jennifer Lopez are due in March and for april there's Cate Blanchett apparently.

northfeastmummy · 24/12/2007 13:48

Sarah Cox is having a baby but she might be March - I can't find anything that says if she's March or April.

Bainmarie · 24/12/2007 14:00

Just wanting to wish everyone a lovely Christmas!
