Hello

Bit of an update...

Saw the doctor last week -- they are fine with my having a VBAC but have bunged me on high risk so it'll be fortnightly appointments from 28 weeks for me. This is because (a) DS was 10lb 5.5oz so they are concerned about gestational diabetes (last pregnancy they sprang random blood tests on me at every opportunity but never found anything wrong) and want to check my urine every two weeks and give me a proper glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks (b) ten years ago my blood pressure went up when I went on the combined pill (went back to normal when I came off it) so they want to keep an eye on that too even though it's fine at the moment and was never a problem when pregnant with DS. They also want me to have a growth scan and further chat about the VBAC at 36 weeks because of DS's size. At least so far DD is looking like being smaller...

Thanks everyone it was nice to see just a bit posh spice looking (very thin) I have booked another 3d scan at 28 weeks when he should hopefully have a tad more fat on him bless him I have also been given a 34 week scan even though my little man is slightly below average size wise because I am a chunky girl the expect by boy to be chunky even though his brother was 7.6lb so normal although i dont mind just means I get to seem him in Feb and March

Hi all- and welcome to newcomers

Ben away fro the weekend, nowhere adult-y (butlins- occupied the kids!), had a scare of Saturday when I started getting contractions !!!! Fortunately taking to bed sorted it, and I apparently have an irritable uterus. Ah well, much like the rest of me then . LO is kicking like a madman- so much so if I cuddle up to DH it wakes him as well. And I am huge- we don't have a full length mirror, sos aw myself for the first time for a bit whilst awa- - bigger than at full term with the others!

Can't eat much though now so have to have small meals instead, and keep getting stuck on the floor or whatever- DH laughs but boys annoyed when they have to shift my fata rse constantly

Lemonaid where have you been, havnt seen you posting in a while hope youre keeping well. Congrats on hopefully getting your VBAC. My DS was 10.2 and this one looks smaller so far as well, maybe its the pink flavouring that does it?

if it doesnt happen on those certain dates we dont win that bet, but one of us will win weight bet. its £20

Well, I found out today that my boss has been told that her job is being de-scoped and she?s not getting a pay review. I have a call with her new boss tomorrow to ?sell myself? so she can figure out where to place me in her new organisation. She's already been making noises about where people end up depending a lot on when maternity leave starts/ends (she's US based so diff laws over there), and whether we?re coming back full or part time. Discrimination alarm bells are ringing all over the place and it sounds like she doesn?t have a clue that she?s even on dangerous ground. Yikes!

northfeastmummy - the good news is they cant sack you while your preg and on ML they can however put you on lesser job on return but they have to protect it for a period of time, not sure how long its prob on the DoH web site. I have a friend out in the states and things v diff over there she only has 8 weeks off work - unpaid - after that time she has to give up her job they dont have to hold it open for any period of time. She was saying the other day that a collegue has come back to work still BF (baby only 8 weeks) she requested to decrease from 10 hour to 8 hour day as diff to continue feeding and the request was denied!!

They can't put you on a "lesser" job as such.

If you return to work within six months, you have a right to the same job and the same terms and conditions as if you hadn?t been absent.

If you return to work between six months and a year, you still have a right to the same job and the same terms and conditions as if you hadn?t been absent unless your employer shows that it?s not reasonably practicable for them to take you back in your original job (this is a reasonably strict test). Sounds as though it could be worth a chat with HR, northfeastmummy -- it's in your company's best interests to stop your new boss trampliing roughshod over UK wmployment rights and landing them with a lot of expensive legal cases.

Deffo talk to HR about it. Or to the boss herself to make sure she knows that things are different in the UK.

Have ahd a bit of a time I suppose but Christmas should be good- going to family and won't be allowed to lift a finger! Also, will get to see my gorgeous nephew who was born last month again on christmas Eve.

Irritable uterus- seems to just mean its prone to getting contractions etc if I am tired / walking much / etc. As long as it's stopped with sleep I'm not too worried.
And frankly, I am that big that i would quite appreciate NOT going overdue (not yet obv), ds3 was overdue and could do without that again - seems to be following pattern with ds2 however who was a week early, would be perfect!

Have to re-do list as mine are getting older (well ds2 is older next month but may as well change now, ds1 had a birthday last week)

Off now to indulge in yummy grapes and lime almonds whilst wrapping gifts..... yum!

Thanks for all the advice everyone. Sadly, I'm an HR Manager (and my new boss is the International HR Director!!!). Although I'm aware of my rights, it still helps to get a sanity check from everyone. And to be honest, I'm just struggling to know how best to approach it with her. I'll see what she says on my call with her tomorrow, and if she gives me any signs of discrimination, I'll check with her that she knows what she's doing.

It's also really interesting Denny to hear exactly how it is in the US. I know from others that work for my company over there that it's pretty tough, but it's quite hard to find detail on the legislation anywhere. So real life examples really help me understand what I'm dealing with!

God, I am glad I am past the barfing stage. Poor DP was up ALL NIGHT puking in the loo next door to our room, so I had to listen to it all, I realise how gross it must be for him when I am having morning sickness. Has anyone gone down with this short sharp bug, I had it last week, yuk.

Anyway you have convinced me to have a 3d scan too. Phoned up for a price and they want £195 which includes a dvd and pics... Is this about right? Going to book for when im 27 weeks as they said this is a good time..

Sounds about right -- it was more than that when I had it done with DS, but the price has come down a bit.
